Beaches south of Corfu. Corfu beaches reviews. Which three-star hotel can you check into based on reviews?

Probably, every city, and even more so if we are talking about a resort, has its own “branded” places. It is from these sights that you can guess the place and form your own impression of it. There are several such places on Corfu (or the island of Kerkyra, as the Greeks themselves call it). But the main thing business card This place has gorgeous beaches. In this article you will discover the best beaches in Corfu.

Pebble beaches

For your convenience, we have divided the main beaches of Corfu into two categories: pebble and sand. Some beaches are pebble and sand, this will be discussed separately in the description.

Magnificent Paleokastritsa

If you decide to search the Internet for photos of Corfu beaches, pictures of Cape Paleokastritsa will probably appear in the first place. Many consider this cape to be the most picturesque attraction of the island and tend to go there.

From the capital of the island, Kerkyra, you can get to Paleokastritsa by Green Bus (that’s the name of the bus), the ticket costs a few euros. The journey will take about thirty minutes. Another way to admire the cape is to book a tour of Kerkyra, not a single one tourist group doesn't pass by. However, in this case it is unlikely that you will be able to plunge into the warm sea.

If you go to the beach, be sure to take a mask and fins with you, because the water is clean and the underwater world is rich. Everything around is fragrant with the aromas of the Mediterranean.

Buses come straight to the central beach, and there is also a pier. On it, locals offer a ride on a yacht or boat through grottoes and caves. It seems that there are too many foreign tourists, but most do not make noise and maintain the harmony of this place. Here you will find incredibly picturesque bays. Paleokastritsa has the best beaches in Corfu; on the map you can find the city in the western part of the island.

There is sand mixed with pebbles. The entrance to the water is purely sandy, so special shoes are not needed. Be prepared that the water in June will be cold; it is better to swim later. But at any time of the year, the turquoise transparent sea will not leave you indifferent!

Barbati – fashionable beach

Barbati is a very clean pebble beach with clear water. From the shore you can see Albania, and if you sail further away, you will have a magnificent view of Mount Pantokrator. Anyone can rent sunbeds and umbrellas (there are always enough of them, trestle beds are placed in several rows). There are places to eat on Barbati. You will find both a shower and a toilet here. Despite all the amenities, the place is not crowded. The only exceptions are weekends, when the Greeks want to relax too. If you get tired of the heat, you can walk through the olive grove that separates the coastline from the residential complexes.

In general, Barbati is a “glamorous village”, the best place for parties, where the cream of Greek society come to relieve the burden of fatigue. And if you are looking for beaches on the island of Corfu where you can also hang out, then this is the place for you! There are clubs within walking distance, you can cover yourself there beautiful tan, and cool off with a delicious cocktail. If you love music, fun, and the smell of coffee in the air, then you are in the right place.

Modern Agios Gordios

Agios Gordios is comfortably located in the most beautiful bay of Corfu, which can be immediately recognized from the photo. Typical features of the beach are the characteristic rocky terrain and a small rock that seems to be peeking out from the sea. This is the western coast of the island, and is traditionally considered European. There are very few Slavs in the village and by the sea.

Agios Gordios is civilized and there are plenty of places to eat. There are taverns with delicious national cuisine. Moreover, many coastal restaurants and bars offer customers free sun loungers. Even if you don't buy anything, the sun loungers are inexpensive. Two sunbeds with an umbrella cost from 5 euros per day.

If you are wondering where in Corfu sandy beaches, then you will find part of the answer here. Agios Gordios is quite big, about three kilometers long. There is sand on the shore, but the entrance to the sea is strewn with small pebbles. There are no sharp changes, the approach is smooth, and deep places begin 15 meters from the shore. If you search, you may come across wild beach with stunning fine sand not only on the shore, but also in the sea. In general, the place is ideal for relaxation, especially with small children.

Porto Timoni – when the mountains embrace the sea

Porto Timoni is a truly virgin place with lush vegetation and clear sea. In terms of beauty, this is the best beach in Corfu. By public transport You won’t be able to get there: only by rented car, taxi, or on your own. Even if you go by car, on the way to the beach you still have to overcome the descent from the mountain (about a quarter of an hour), and, accordingly, you will have to climb back. We advise you to take a change with you. But the views of Porto Timoni are worth all the effort. Therefore, when you are asked about the most beautiful beaches in Corfu, you will probably talk about Porto Timoni.

Before the descent, you can refresh yourself in a cafe, and head on to the gorgeous pebble coast. To avoid getting lost, look at the signs and look for the words “Double beach”. In general, the name is not entirely true. In fact, there are three beaches, it’s just that getting to the third one is even more difficult than getting to the first two, so there are usually no people there.

When going to any of them, it is advisable to take a sun umbrella with you, because you will not find shade. The northern beach is windy and the water seems colder. But in southern Porto Timoni there is no wind at all, so there are a lot of wasps. For those who don't want to climb the mountains, there is an option to get to the beach by catamaran or boat.

Bataria – beach with white stones

Bataria is cozy and clean, but the pebbles on it are large. The trestle beds and umbrellas are paid, almost all are laid out on the stones. When entering the water, pebbles can cause trouble: pebbles can injure feet, especially for children. It is better to immediately purchase rubber shoes for swimming.

But the views are simply fantastic: azure water contrasts with white rocks. Wonderful views of nature! The photos come out great. However, there are also disadvantages.

The beach is small, there are a lot of people during the day. The sunbeds provided are uncomfortable, the umbrellas are old and sometimes broken. There is no toilet or shower. There is only a cafe where you can visit the toilet. But there are changing cabins on Bataria. But in terms of transport accessibility no questions, there is parking above the beach.

Rovinia – the beauty of wild nature

Rovinia Beach is a small pebble and rocky beach. Buses do not go here, but you can easily get there by car, boat (sea taxi) or on foot. Parking is available nearby. White pebbles, blue sea, tempting grottoes. The water is crystal clear, there are no algae, it would be a shame not to snorkel and try to catch fish with your hands! The sea is deep.

A secluded place, but still you can’t call it paradise. There is dirt and in terms of landscaping there is something to complain about. There are no sunbeds or umbrellas. In addition, due to the fact that the beach is wild, there are no buoys or restrictions for boats. Everyone who wants to motor boat scurries along the shore. Sometimes this creates a danger: people are in the water, and a boat is passing nearby. You never know how it might end.

It’s difficult to find Rovinia Beach without instructions from the locals, because there are no signs. The road to the beach itself is picturesque and runs through olive groves. You can buy food on a small boat that brings snacks and drinks. They sell decent sandwiches, inexpensive beer and iced coffee.

Sandy beaches of Corfu

Those who do not like pebbles, but have chosen Corfu for their holiday, will find good sandy beaches on the island: noisy and secluded, popular and uncrowded.

Agios Georgios – a secluded place to relax

This sandy beach is clean and large. There are inclusions of pebbles at the entrance to the water. There are usually few people here.

Employees of hotels, shops and tourist shops do not know Russian words at all. Our compatriots usually vacation on the east coast, and we offer tours there.

You can get to Agios Georgios at any time of the day or night by taxi, in about twenty minutes. Corfu is all serpentines and rocks, so if you have a phobia of heights, you may feel uncomfortable.

The entry into the sea is beautiful, but there can be waves in this part of the island. Although for many this is a plus. Of course, you won’t be able to surf, but you can ride the waves with small children. Dolphins swim past. They sometimes put on their amazing show for vacationers.

The sea is shallow for the next ten meters, then the depth begins. You can always find a shower with fresh water to rinse off.

Less crowded Gardenos

This beach is ideal for a break from the noise of popular places on the Corfu coast. Locals and tourists who live nearby relax here. It is not one of those beaches that people travel to from the other end of Corfu. Gardenas is huge, completely sandy - sand both on the shore and in the sea. The water is warmer than in Paleokastritsa.

If you go there by car, it is better to take umbrellas and blankets with you. Umbrellas conveniently stick into the sand, you can save on rent. Open space, the wind blows almost always.

There are shops and restaurants in front of the beach entrance. There is a shower and changing room. Fish and other marine life can be seen in the water.

On the shore there is a small and simple restaurant with very reasonable prices. You can order takeaway and enjoy your food while looking at the sea from your sun lounger.

Mirtiotissa – no need to be shy

Stunning beach, one of the best and most picturesque in all of Greece. The main part of Myrtiotissa is given over to nudists. Be prepared for this. The beach is modest, cozy, with a sandy, gentle approach to the sea.

A special feature of the beach is its secluded location: you can only get here by rented car or moped. By the way, in order to go down to the sea, you will have to overcome a sharp descent, and a scooter with a weak engine may not be able to climb up. Umbrellas here are surprisingly free, they are handed out to everyone at the entrance, but you have to pay for the opportunity to lie on a sun lounger.

This is one of the nicest resorts in Corfu with sandy beaches. There is a bar with drinks and snacks, and a restaurant along the road. Due to its specificity, Myrtiotissa is often visited by tourists from Western Europe and representatives of sexual minorities. However, there are many families with children.

Another wonderful beach is Paradise. Translated – “paradise beach”. Tourists love it for its soft sand, convenient access to the sea and clean water. In addition, the beach is very exotic and secluded.

It is important that you cannot get there by land; you will only have to get there by sea.

If you are arriving by boat, remember that it is forbidden to land on the shore. However, if there are no people on Paradise, an exception can be made.

According to the rules, you need to anchor at a distance of fifty meters and swim there, like Robinson Crusoe. This means that you won’t be able to take anything with you. The most best time for mooring - early morning. A taxi boat will cost fifteen euros for each passenger, and renting the entire boat for a day will cost about 80 euros. It’s convenient to moor, you can plan your time as you want.

The left side of Paradise beach is more “civilized” and gently sloping: there are sun loungers and umbrellas. The right half is deserted, there are large stones in the sea. In general, the beach is long and generally pleasing to the eye, but if you want to explore the shore better, take shoes with you for walking on the rocks. Sheer snow-white cliffs, dense greenery, a long narrow strip coastline– your heart will remain here forever!

Marathias

Wide clean sandy beach with a pleasant entry into the sea. It is easy to get here by car or scooter. There are few tourists here, it is quiet and cozy. From visitors most of Greeks, and almost no Slavs. Clear water with occasional small waves and wind. The depth near the shore is shallow, so Marathias is suitable for both small children and old people.

A huge space where you can play beach games or just sunbathe. Almost everyone praises the stunning “golden” sand of Marathias. There are plenty of bars and restaurants here. Relaxing music is often played. All in all, fantastic beach for all ages, safe for children. A sunbed with an umbrella can be rented here for 3.

Every greek island good in its own way and has its own unique features and highlights. Corfu, the main island of the Ionian Islands, also has its own unique face. What attracts and amazes tourists in Corfu? Let's look at 5 main features of a holiday on this island.

1. Features of nature and resort villages

Of all the Ionian islands, Corfu is the northernmost. Its length is 64 km, width – 32 km. The length of the coastline is almost 218 kilometers. In the north the island is very mountainous, and the southern part is lowland. Thus, the north of the island can be considered more picturesque. The entire island is surrounded by olive and citrus groves. There are also enough coniferous trees in Corfu, but, frankly, there are not as many of them as, for example, in Thassos.

For those who want to feel the flavor of this island without leaving home, we recommend reading Gerald Durrell’s excellent book “My Family and Other Animals,” dedicated to the life of the writer and his family in Corfu. Well, for those who decide to personally see the beauty and uniqueness of Corfu nature, we remind you that this year the charter from Minsk flies throughout the entire season, from June 4 to September 27, the duration of the vacation is 10, 11 days, tour operators consolidate the programs “ Aerotravel and Canulas Travel.

Attention! One of the main features of Corfu is that, due to the cold currents on the west coast, the water is slightly colder than on the east. This does not mean that you or your children will be uncomfortable swimming in Paleokastritsa, but the magnificently colored local water will, so to speak, invigorate. You need to be prepared for this. However, you also need to prepare for warm, almost “steamy” water on the east coast of the island.

Resorts in Corfu are scattered along the entire coast. The villages on the eastern part of the island have developed infrastructure and vibrant nightlife (eg Gouvia). Here are the most prestigious resorts of the island, among which we would like to highlight Kommeno.

Northeast and south are suitable for family vacation surrounded by nature. Benitses and Kanoni are famous for their shallow waters and calm seas, Kavos for its long beach.

The pearl of the west coast – Paleokastritsa – suitable for lovers active rest. By all accounts, this resort has one of the best beaches in Corfu.

By wealth historical heritage Corfu can be compared with the island of Crete, also proposed for flights from Minsk.

This is largely due to the fact that the picturesque and rich island in different times was influenced by various cultures and, as a result, absorbed all the best civilizational achievements of mankind.

Just a little bit of history.

In 395 the island joined the Roman Empire, and then it belonged to the Byzantines. In the 13th century, the Venetians came to power. They ruled the island until the 18th century, so the influence of the Venetians on music, language and cuisine is noticeable in Corfu to this day. The long-ruling Venetians were replaced by the French, who, however, through a short time ousted the Russian fleet under the command of Ushakov. And not for long either. In 1807, as a result of the war between Russia and Turkey, the Ionian Islands were given to France, but after the fall of Napoleon, the archipelago fell under the protectorate of England. Only by 1864 did the reunification of Corfu with Greece become possible.

It is well known that on small islands the best way to get acquainted with nature and attractions is to travel around everything yourself in a rented car with a good map and quality guidebooks in hand. But if you have to choose among group excursion tours, we recommend choosing the following options:

Classic sightseeing tour of Corfu

This route starts at the Achilleion Palace. The palace was built specifically for the Empress of Austria, Elizabeth of Habsburg. Having visited Corfu for the first time, the Empress was amazed by the beauty of these places; on her orders, an elegant and magnificent palace, decorated with sculptures of Achilles. This elegant building with its magnificent gardens and interiors is today the main attraction of Corfu.

Next, the route leads tourists to a distillery, where all products are made exclusively from kumquat - a dwarf bitter orange - another local attraction. By the way, kumquat grows only in Corfu and in some places in China.

After this, travelers go to Paleokastritsa, famous for its magnificent landscapes and extraordinary beauty water in the bay. You can go for a walk through the grottoes or simply enjoy lunch in a Greek tavern with magnificent views of the surrounding landscapes.

Agios Gordis. The village has a wonderful three-kilometer beach and beautiful views.

Sidari. Located 35 km from Kerkyra. One of the most beautiful places in the region is considered to be a sandy canal across the sea, which is called Canal d Amour (canals of love). There are two classic cuisines in Corfu: Italian and Greek. Seafood dishes are also excellent here.

5. Iconic hotels

Everything is more than fine with hotels on the island. There are apartments, mid-price hotels, and, of course, magnificent five-star hotels.

Of the most popular “fives,” Grecotel Corfu Imperial 5* should perhaps be noted. The hotel is located on a small peninsula - thanks to this convenient location, almost all rooms and bungalows of the hotel have sea views. It is surrounded by greenery.

In this regard, Grecotel Eva Palace 5* is in no way inferior to it. This hotel positions itself as a place for a romantic getaway: families with small children are accepted only in high season, all other months vacation here only in couples.

From the category of slightly more democratic “fives”, we recommend paying attention to Kontokali Bay Resort& Spa and Grand Mediterraneo

Among the four-star hotels, the hotels of the Aquis chain enjoy an excellent reputation. Aquis Sandy Hotel Beach Resort 4* located in a magnificent location - Agios Georgis. Externally it is absolutely simple, but located on one of the most beautiful beaches Mediterranean Sea. The white water here is completely unusual, since at the bottom there is a white slab with waves of washed-up sand. The entrance to the sea is gentle and quite shallow, so the water warms up amazingly. For a holiday with children this is very appropriate place, since the hotel has a mini club; in addition, it offers all food systems - from breakfast to all inclusive.

One of the most popular three-star hotels on the island is Messonghi Beach 3* - the largest in Corfu. This hotel is good for families with children; it occupies a huge area with a cute little train running through it. There is a beautiful sandy beach and good rooms. The hotel will not leave anyone indifferent, everyone will like it, and it’s also inexpensive. Practices the all-inclusive system.

Expert opinion

Dmitry Platkov, head of the VLP company:

“The north of Corfu is the Adriatic Sea, and since I am, in principle, partial to the Adriatic, I would probably rank this part as one of the most beautiful. This is a truly stunning place in terms of landscapes and relief - so beautiful that it will take your breath away. There is a lot of greenery here, there are grottoes and small islands off the coast - it all looks very impressive. Sidari, famous for its landscapes, is also located here - a place of unique beauty, with the picturesque Canals of Love. The Adriatic has most of the wide sandy beaches, although they can be found throughout the island. But it is the north of Corfu that is famous for its sandy beaches, which in the north-west begin to alternate with powerful rocky outcrops into the sea. The most a nice place in this part of the island there is a place called Paleokastritsa.

The rest of the island, its western and eastern coasts, is the Ionian Sea. It is warmer than the Adriatic, this is a generally accepted fact. On the east coast, north of Corfu Town, there are many beaches on the rocks, and between them there are numerous coves where you can safely enter the sea from the shore. And on the west coast, in the area of Glyfada and Agios Georgis, there are wide, luxurious sandy beaches and dunes. The picturesque Lake Korission is also located here. As in the northwest, in the southeast of the island the beaches can alternate: in one bay there is sand, in the next there are pebbles or a rocky outcrop with beach platforms.

Among the large villages, we can highlight Acharavi in the north, the Paleokastritsa region in the west and, perhaps, Kavos in the south. Everything else is very small, but extremely nice and cozy villages scattered along the coast; there are a lot of them on the island. It is possible that in some village there will be a club that brings together tourists and residents of surrounding villages, or a tavern with live music. But in general, in terms of atmosphere, a holiday in Corfu will be calm, although the hotels here are large and try to offer guests maximum services and good service.

If a client wants entertainment and parties, he needs to settle close to Corfu town in order to be able to go to Liston, the main street of the city, at any time and join the nightlife there. This is the main one Entertainment Center islands, the resorts are much quieter. The exceptions are Sidari and Kavos - two small villages that are very popular among English youth.

Hotels in Kofu are characteristic, each has its own special atmosphere - this is not Spain, where hotels can provide good service and food, but do not have their own identity. In Corfu you will not find faceless hotels, and in this regard I really like them: they cannot be confused with each other. Hotels offer different food systems - breakfast, half board, all inclusive. The latter system is most common in three-star and four-star family hotels. Hotels that are not suitable for families with children offer breakfast and half board.

If a person plans to travel to the northwest coast without children, I would recommend taking only breakfast at hotels. There are many taverns where you can have excellent and inexpensive lunch and dinner. You shouldn’t “lock” yourself within four walls; fortunately, many taverns are located in picturesque places, hanging over the sea or overlooking the monastery.

What’s also very cool about Corfu is that getting to the “floating” monasteries in Meteora from the island is much easier than from Chalkidiki. If you have never been there, I recommend it. On the mainland the road takes a very long time, there are many serpentine sections, but from Corfu you first take a ferry, and then there are only 2 hours left along the new road.

There is also a very interesting excursion program to Italian Bari, also with a ferry transfer. The excursion from Corfu includes a tour of Bari and the fabulous Apulian town of Alberobello. It is not cheap - it costs about 300 euros. But the impressions will be truly unforgettable.”

IN resort town Sidari has a small beach “Canal of Love”, which is famous not only in Greece, but also far beyond its borders. He gained such popularity thanks to the legend and the sign associated with it. Legend has it that once upon a time the two rocks that now form a small heart-shaped bay were two lovers. But with their happiness they aroused the anger and envy of the gods, so they decided to separate the lovers by turning them into stone masses that go around the canal.

Since then, there has been a belief that if people who love each other swim across the bay together, their love will be eternal, and if a person has not yet found his soulmate, but really wants it, then he needs to swim through an arch washed out in the rock.

The length of the beach is no more than 20 meters. Due to the fact that it is surrounded on all sides by stone, there are never waves here, and the water is always warm, and all this is in the midst of the most picturesque landscapes.

    • How to get to Corfu?

There are several ways to get to the island of Corfu:

By plane: There are no regular direct flights to Corfu. Only in summer there are charters from Moscow. In winter, it is only possible to get there by changing trains in Athens. From the center of Corfu, a few minutes walk is located international Airport Kerkyra.

By ferry: There are regular ferries from Patras and Igoumenitsa. Corfu can be reached by water from Brindisi, Ancona and Venice.

The most practical way to get around the island is by car. Therefore, it may be better to take care of renting a car in advance. If it is not possible to rent in advance, then doing it directly on site will not be difficult.

What to take with you to the beach?

When going on vacation to the island of Corfu, there is no need to take special things with you.

    The annual temperature averages 22°C.

This temperature is quite comfortable for tourists. In summer, the thermometer shows no higher than 32°C and no lower than 20°C.

The most necessary things will be:

    • Sunglasses, hat, jacket for night walks.

    • But when packing your suitcase, pay attention to medications tailored to your needs. Medications for heart and blood pressure problems may be helpful. Although it is quite possible to purchase all medications locally, even without a prescription.

    • Greece in general is a country where wind can be quite strong and frequent. This is why you may need a moisturizer for long excursions in Corfu. It will prevent chapping and its consequences - peeling and redness. You can also put chapstick in your suitcase.

    • Cosmetics for women will be more likely to be unnecessary, as they can “float”. A mattifying cream would be more practical.

    • Sunscreen with a protection level of 30-35 is also useful before going to the beach.

    • You don’t have to take family care cosmetics (creams, gels, scrubs, deodorants) - you can buy them on the island. All by reasonable prices and excellent quality from natural ingredients, in particular olive oil. The only thing that may be useful is shampoo or conditioner to soften your hair, since the water on the island is hard.

    • There are a lot of mosquitoes on the island, so it would be a good idea to stock up on insect repellent. Although, as I said local: “Corfu has a humid subtropical climate, which is why there are a lot of mosquitoes. You can buy remedies for them on the spot or take them with you. There are no midges on the island. But in September, wasps already appear during the grape harvest.”

What should a child take to Corfu? The set of things for children is the same as for any other holiday at sea. Warm clothes, sunscreen and, of course, swimming gear may come in handy.

Remember that you should not take a lot of luggage to Corfu. This way you can limit your movement. Indeed, in addition to beautiful beaches, the island has a lot of architectural and natural attractions.

Even if you are not going to make excursions, believe that when you arrive at the place, you will certainly have such a desire.

Today I will tell you about the features of a holiday on my favorite Greek island - Corfu. I have been to several islands of this wonderful country, but the island of Corfu has firmly taken first place in my heart.

From skepticism to love

We vacationed on the island of Corfu at the beginning of September. I went with a skeptical attitude - this place was praised too much, suspicions even creeped in, but Corfu is a truly magical place, it is an island unlike any other in Greece. It has a strong Italian influence - especially in the cuisine and architecture. And this is the only Greek island where you can see the Adriatic Sea. The second sea in Corfu is the Ionian. In principle, the features of the island are such that in the morning you can swim in the Ionian Sea, and in the afternoon - in the Adriatic.

Vegetation and weather.

The island of Corfu is very green. Compared to the islands of the Aegean region, it is simply a jungle. But this lush vegetation has one caveat - it often rains and thunderstorms occur in Corfu. They are not prolonged, but nevertheless they can lower the temperature of the air and water. It is better to go here in July, August and the very beginning of September. Later there is a risk of frequent rains. Yes, there are a lot of mosquitoes on the island in the evening, be sure to stock up on mosquito repellents.

Beaches of Corfu

The beaches in Corfu are very diverse - sandy, pebble, mixed. Everyone will find something to suit their taste. There are long and extended ones, and there are small coves. I’ll tell you about the main beaches below in the review.

North coast of Corfu island

In the north of Corfu there is the Ionian Sea and sandy beaches. There are also beautiful sunsets here. The longest sandy beach in the north of Corfu - Acharavi beach. We just stopped there. The sea in this place is warm. The beach is comfortable, although sometimes it is filled with waves of pebbles and it will be uncomfortable for small children to go into the sea (a dip forms near the shore, and then again there is a flat sandy bottom). Adults - no problem.

There are many hotels, both large and small, along the entire beach. It's a matter of taste - what to choose. The peculiarity of hotels in Corfu is that even three-room apartments are often on the first line. This is due to the structural features of the island - it is elongated and there is mountainous terrain in the middle, so the hotels are pressed to the shore. Not all, of course, but the majority.

Another sandy beach in the north of the island - Agios Spyridonous. Saint Spyridon is the patron saint of the island of Corfu. On this beach there is a chapel dedicated to him. The beach itself is in a cove, very picturesque and comfortable.

Also in the north of the island of Corfu is the famous Love channel. This is the place Sidari. The place as a whole is quite calm, the beaches are sandy, but very compact. There are a lot of people on the beaches (since there are few beaches themselves). Hotels have both small apartments and large ones, but the large ones are located away from the coast. For example, there is a Cyprotel Panorama VIllage, which I considered as an option for myself, but abandoned this idea because of a child who would find it difficult to go to the beach.

In general the coast in the area Sidari very picturesque because of the folded rocks. It seems to me that living here on the shore in an apartment would be a good option.

West Coast Corfu islands

The west of Corfu is the Adriatic Sea. It is colder than the Ionian and there are mainly pebble beaches. The water is crystal clear up close, but when viewed from above it is inky blue. There is lush and picturesque vegetation here. In the west of the island of Corfu there is the famous Paleokastritsa.

Not far from Paleokastritsa there is a castle Angelokastro. A stone staircase leads to it, and from above there are magnificent views of Paleokastritsa and the Adriatic.

Below on the western coast there are two wonderful beaches - Glyfada beach and beach Agios Georgios. Both are wonderful. Sand, wide coastline. Agios Georgios beach has picturesque cliffs at the very end.

This is Glyfada beach:

This is Agios Georgios beach:

East Coast Corfu islands

On east side The capital of the island of Corfu is the city of Kerkyra. Be sure to visit the old town and sea fortress, they are very atmospheric. Old city reminds me of old Italian films. Narrow streets, shutters, clotheslines, cages with canaries...

In Kerkyra there is Liston Street, modeled after the Parisian Rue de Rivoli.

The Church of St. Spyridon is popular among tourists. The relics of the patron saint of Corfu are kept there. If you travel by car, there is a large free parking. There are a lot of cars on it, but if you want you can find a place.

The sea on the eastern side of Corfu is Ionian and very warm. This is the strait between mainland Greece and the island. There are hotels for every taste, I will write below about the hotels that I considered and where our friends were.

Not far from Kerkyra there is an architectural monument - Achilleion Palace. Empress Sisi lived here. The palace is small but pretty, and there is a well-kept garden around it. What I remember most is the patio with Greek statues and giant statue Achilles.

Northeast coast of Corfu

The northeast of Corfu is a mountainous area, as Mount Pantakrator is located here. There is a small monastery on it. Climbing the mountain by car is absolutely possible, the main thing is that there is no fog, it interferes with a comfortable ride along the serpentines. The mountains are very beautiful, quiet and easy to breathe.

And along the north-eastern coast of Corfu there are hotels and celebrity villas. This is the most respectable area of the island. Lost somewhere here is Brad Pitt's villa.

One of the coves in the northeast:

In the same part of the island is former capital islands - the fishing town of Kassiopi. It has the freshest and most delicious fish.

On south We didn’t reach the island, but according to the stories of the locals, there are wide sandy beaches and strong waves. Surfers go there.

Roads and car rental

You can rent a car in Corfu. It is better to do this not in a hotel (prices will be inflated), but in rental offices. Please keep in mind that problems with flat tires and broken windows are not covered by any insurance. Insurance also does not apply on dirt roads. The roads in Corfu are difficult, in some places there are quite steep serpentines (not for beginners behind the wheel), and in some villages the streets are so narrow that two cars simply cannot pass each other.

Kitchen in Corfu it is Greek, but with a strong Italian influence. Delicious pizzas are prepared in wood-burning ovens. The signature drink in Corfu is kumquat liqueur. It's so orange and looks like cough syrup.

HOTEL Acharavi Beach. We stayed here. The hotel is 3 stars, located on the 1st line from the beach, the rooms are both standard and studio (with kitchen). The food is very decent, although there is not a lot of choice. For dinner 2-3 hot dishes, appetizers, salads, desserts. Everything is delicious. There is a beach bar with panoramic windows and good choice kittens. 2 swimming pools - adults and children. The rooms are small, but quite comfortable. The only thing is did not like– lazy maids (they didn’t clean well) and a cot (not a bed) for a child for extra. place.

HOTEL Cyprotel Panorama VIllage(3 stars) in Sidari. Not a bad option if you are willing to walk to the beach for 10-15 minutes (downhill there, uphill back). The beach is sandy, good for children - long shallow. In general, I liked Sidari, it’s quite calm and picturesque.

HOTEL Corfu Maris in the town of Benitses. Pay attention to this option. This is a small hotel, it has practically no territory. But it is located right by the sea, it has its own beach, all the rooms have a sea view and the owner is Russian (married to a Greek). Seats here sell out instantly. The hotel is quite budget friendly. The cooks are very praised and, which is rare for Greece, they have porridge for breakfast (you can feel the Russian hostess). The downside is that on one side of the hotel there is the sea, and on the other there is a road and it is quite busy. But if you are not afraid of the noise of cars, you can safely come here. Another advantage of this place is that it’s close to the airport, making it quick and convenient to get there. I wanted to get here, but I didn’t have time - all the rooms were sold out.

HOTEL Messonghi Beach Resort(3 stars). Our friends vacationed here. This a good place for holidays with children. Shallow beach, warm sea, children's mini-club, slides, swimming pool, animation.
With numbers - depending on your luck. There are new buildings, and there are old ones. They are very much scolded, and at the beginning of your vacation you can go around swearing about moving to normal conditions. Otherwise the hotel is good. There are always a lot of people there, but if that doesn’t scare you, then choose it.

HOTELS Louis

And one piece of good advice for you. Beware of hotels in the Louis system, for some reason they don’t like Russians. I lived at the Luis Hotel on the island of Zakynthos and it was not the best good experience. The problem is that for some reason Russians are massively accommodated in the worst rooms. My friends got into history in Corfu. There are two or even three Louis hotels in Corfu. One of them is located on the gorgeous Glyfada beach, the other is near Kerkyra. Our friends who bought rooms in the one in Luis, which is on the beach, were sent to the one in the city, citing the lack of available rooms. And this is when booking through a tour operator and much in advance. As a result, instead of the sea there was a swimming pool, as well as scandals and a ruined vacation.

What else is good about the island of Corfu - from here they take you to the mainland to the eighth wonder of the world - Meteora. The tour takes a whole day, but the spectacle is worth it.

If you have any questions, I will be happy to answer them.

Happy travels and holidays to everyone!
