Dominican Republic hotel Be live Collection Canoa in Bayahibe (La Romana) full review with photos. Aquatics Center

A good budget hotel in the Caribbean, if you don't mind.
Good day! This was our second time staying at this hotel, so we already knew all the advantages and disadvantages, so to speak, we knew what awaited us and where we had come. But first things first. At the end of the working year, I really wanted to go to the sea and sun for reasonable money without overpaying for the New Year, but before the New Year in December, on the departure date approximately on the 20th, for two adults with a 13-year-old child, the price tag was simply exorbitant, from 580 thousand. R. and higher. As a result, the poorest and most extreme options were considered, such as living in a tent on a garbage dump on the island of Zanzibar, or hostels in Thailand 5 km from the sea, or a room in a slum in Goa in a hippie village between an elephant and a cow farm at the mouth of a stinking river with a cloud of malarial mosquitoes . But fortunately, we didn’t go there, and waited good prices to a normal hotel.

Thanks to a subscription to the news of the travel company “Rostur”, on December 17th, very late in the evening, I received information that there is a ticket to the Be Live Canoe hotel for three adults (and a child over 12 years old is already on a tour as an adult), for 212 rubles. for 10 days, 9 nights. On the morning of December 18th, we paid for the trip remotely by bank transfer, received documents by email, packed our bags, and on the 19th evening we flew to Moscow, spent the night in a hostel for 3,400 rubles, which we were very pleased with, because in the morning we got up cheerful and full of energy, he did online registration on the website of Rossiya Airlines, so that everyone could sit together on the plane, and in the morning at 7:00 we arrived by taxi at Vnukovo airport for registration, departure at 10:40. Fortunately, in Vnukovo all formalities were completed in about forty minutes, which is much faster than in Sheremetyevo, so if there are options, it is better to fly abroad from Vnukovo. To be fair, I note that tickets from Krasnodar to Domodedovo and Sheremetyevo are cheaper than to Vnukovo.

For a child to leave with his grandmother, it is sufficient that there is no objection from the parents and consent from one parent, but border control requested notarized consent from both parents, and only after providing the original birth certificate of the child, and the original notarized originals of consent for the child to leave from both parents, after an oral questioning of the child about his consent to leave, whether the child knows with whom he is going and where , the child was released from the country and a stamp was placed in his passport. As is customary, during the aviation security inspection, they took away all the water and had to buy water on the plane in the waiting room before departure, 4 bottles of 0.5 liters for 100 rubles. We boarded the plane through a sleeve, so many were already at the airport in shorts and T-shirts, they were flying on a Boeing 747-800, the screens in the backs of the seats did not work, the plane was fully loaded, there were only 5 empty seats for the entire cabin, the flight was operated Rossiya airline, the flight was supposedly not charter, regular, but 90% of the passengers were clearly tourists. We were fed twice, there was fish and rice and terrible powdered mashed potatoes with meat. Water was carried 4 times, and if anyone came and asked for a drink, they gave it without restrictions. There was only orange juice, the cola ran out halfway through the flight. During the flight, we bought 2 more bottles of cola and 2 sprites from the flight attendants, 0.33 liters for 150 rubles, the child really wanted cola and sprite.

We arrived in the Dominican Republic exactly on schedule, without delays, the flight itself was calm, as always, on the approach to the Dominican Republic in the Bermuda Triangle area there was a little shock, the landing was smooth, the luggage was unloaded quickly. The weather was clear and had just rained, so it wasn't too hot, but very humid. At the airport I went to the exit, took a luggage trolley so as not to carry heavy bags, after the flight and the second day of travel, each bag seemed twice as heavy :) . The tour operator "Biblioglobus" issued printed black and white declarations filled out on a computer for entry into the Dominican Republic, they were accepted at customs control, paid $10 per person, checked with the tour operator at the exit from the airport that we had arrived, found out the number of the bus to the hotel, quickly found it, loaded our luggage onto the bus, and 10 minutes later we were on our way to the hotel. During the trip, the transfer guide told us a little about the country, about our hotels, answered questions about the weather, handed out envelopes with information and ended the story by saying that we would learn further details from the hotel guides.

Since we arrived at the hotel already at 17:00, we were quickly given room key cards. We asked for a room with three separate beds, but we were told that the hotel did not have such a thing, a room could only have one or two beds. Bill bravely took our suitcases from us, loaded them onto his cart, and we went to our room. We were greatly disappointed in the room; there was one large bed measuring three by two meters. We told him that we would not live here, and there was an unpleasant pause. I explained to him how he himself sees this situation, that an adult man, an elderly woman and a 13-year-old teenager will sleep in the same bed? Bill agreed that it was bullshit, and started calling the reception, he called back several times, and then took us to another building, to a room on the third floor, where there were already two separate beds, almost square, two by two meters. On one there was a grandmother and her grandson, on the other I sat. For his efforts, he was given $20, he was very pleased, and so were we. We read in reviews that changing a number costs ten times more. Since we were tired from the road, we went to dinner and returned to our room to sleep.

We set off to the sea the very next day in the morning, after breakfast and a meeting with the hotel guide. The meeting with the hotel guide was scheduled for 9:00, which is not a very good decision, since people arrived in a different time zone, no one really got enough sleep, everyone was sitting sleepy and tired from the trip, and no one came to the hotel guide, even though Ivan tried very hard. I listened, everyone was in a state close to prostration. Ivan understood our condition and significantly shortened his speech. Prices for excursions started at $120 per person, and were mostly in the region of $180-280. Seeing our surprised faces at such prices, Ivan said that these are the prices for Punta Cana, and for our hotel the prices are about a third less. Prices for excursions are shown in the photo for the review. Among the useful things for us, Ivan suggested a router with a local SIM card designed for unlimited Internet. To get a router, it was necessary to leave a deposit for the router of $80 and for using a SIM card $50, however, when asked how we would return the router and get money back for the deposit of the router, Ivan answered something incomprehensible, that in a personal meeting, when Ivan will be for work at the hotel, and there can be no other options. That is, if Ivan cannot come, or we cannot meet for any reason, then the router will remain with us, and Ivan will have the deposit for the router. Price for Wi-Fi internet remained the same, $25 for 25 hours until the time for the entire vacation runs out, or $60 for 7 days, you can access the Internet only from one device, which connects first, that is, you cannot connect another device to the Internet. There was another hour of free Internet per day for one device near the pool, as soon as I connected, the hour immediately began to count down. On the Internet there is good advice. If you go to Bayahibe to the dive center Casa Daniel, if you stand with your back to the sea, on the right side there will be a pharmacy that sells local SIM cards. A SIM card costs 500 pesos and an unlimited week costs 250 pesos. Just take five days, it’s more profitable. If you need Internet on several devices, then take with you a router for a SIM card with Wi-Fi distribution. If you really want to use the Internet, you can walk along the shore to the neighboring Hotel Catalonia, they have free Wi-Fi on the beach, you have to walk about 300 meters to the lighthouse past the market. Other hotels also have Wi-Fi on the beach, if go further along the coast, just “Catalonia” is the closest. If you walk to the village, it’s about two kilometers, there are souvenir shops with normal prices.

The hotel area remained as well-groomed and green as a year ago, a lot beautiful places for photo sessions. A pier was built on the beach, the Tortuga travel agency operates on the hotel premises, there is also a representative from the hotel travel agency at the reception, they offer excursions to Saona departing directly from the hotel beach, the price is $80 per adult and $60 per child, you can bargain with them , they ended up knocking off $20 each, although by the end of the auction there was nothing left of their wide smiles. If there were more than 12 Russian people in the group, a Russian-speaking guide was provided free of charge, or $120, and Russian speaking guide will be for at least one person. The hotel staff began to know a little Russian, the simplest phrases, like yes or no, hello, bye, let's go, let's go. This is the hotel's policy, the staff is regularly taken to learn Russian in Punta Cana and Santo Domingo, the pronunciation is very good, but they know very few words. Raids local residents On the weekends, which some people write about in the reviews, we didn’t notice it, maybe we were just lucky.

Also at the hotel you can rent kayaks and catamarans for free for 1 hour a day, they take a deposit of $40-60, which is then returned, if you want to ride more or need an instructor, then this is for an additional fee. National composition vacationers on our visit were distributed as follows: approximately 30% Italians and French with knowledge of Spanish, 50% Spanish-speaking, 10% English-speaking and 10% Russian-speaking, and half of the Russian-speaking ones are pensioners from the USA and Canada, emigrants from the USSR. It rained mainly at night, and the more rain there was at night, the less rain there was during the day. Tropical rain is when clouds come up in 15 minutes, move across the sky very quickly, a torrential, warm tropical downpour pours down, which passes in 5 minutes, then the sun shines again. For us, this weather was very useful, since the sun was not hot, it was warm, and we still got a tan through the clouds. The water is 25-28 degrees, and the air is 20-24 at night and 28-35 during the day.

The air conditioning in the room was not turned on, we slept with the door to the balcony open, the mosquitoes did not bother us, a couple flew in, they were found and killed. The room had an ironing board, a safe for $3.5 per day, a refrigerator, in the refrigerator there were two cans of beer for 0.33, two plastic bottles of cola and Sprite for 0.5, updated daily. On the bedside table there is a coffee maker with a set of tea and coffee bags, another 1.5 liter bottle of still water for brewing coffee, in 9 days we collected 9 bags of coffee, that’s almost a pack of coffee for $10. The bathroom has a standard English toilet, which is filled, and only then everything comes out of it. We saw a couple of small cockroaches in the bathroom, probably crawling through the ventilation; there were no living creatures in the room itself. The bathroom had a bathtub with a shower, a washbasin, a mirror, and an outlet for a hairdryer. There was an iron and hair dryer in the closet. Due to the high humidity, the clothes in the suitcases acquired an unpleasant odor, but those hanging on hangers in the closet did not suffocate.

The 43-inch Sony TV showed 60 channels, but not a single one was Russian-language among them. Like last time, we connected Wi-Fi to the laptop for $60, and connected the laptop to the TV via an HDMI cable, and watched any Russian-language channels and YouTube videos on the TV via the Internet. The free internet near the pool began to work well, the access point is called FREE. One hour of free internet per day was given, and this really helped us out on the last day of departure. Identification is based on the MAC address, so if you know how to change the MAC address of the device, and you are not too lazy to do this, then you will have endless free Internet near the pool. Of the big positives, I would like to note that there are twice as many sun loungers, and they no longer need to be occupied early at 4 am. Nothing has changed regarding food in restaurants, and what kind of miracles can you expect if a ticket costs 70 thousand rubles per person? in 10 days with flights? We are realists and did not expect mountains of lobster with shrimp and mussels. Every day there was 2-3 types of rice, mashed potatoes, 2-3 types of chicken, 2-3 types of meat, sausages, cheeses, salads, pineapples, watermelons, melons, papaya, passion fruit, mangoes, oranges and tangerines, bananas. Very sweet pineapples and mangoes, melon and passion fruit are not very to my taste, watermelons are sometimes sweet, sometimes not.

New Year's Eve was seafood, there were unlimited quantities of shrimp, mussels, lobsters, several types of fish, Japanese sushi, all of this was beautifully arranged and deliciously prepared. New Year's dinner cost an additional $24, which the tour operator already charged us when purchasing the tour. When ordering a table by the pool, you had to pay an additional $25 per person. The entertainment in the hotel remains the same as it was a year ago: two volleyball courts, two table tennis tables, a place to play bochu, dance lessons on the beach, aerobics in the water, various competitions organized by animators for children and adults. All animation in the hotel is in Spanish, so it was very difficult for non-Spanish speakers in animation and competitions to understand the essence of the task and the hosts’ jokes.

On Catholic Christmas On a boat, a Dominican Santa Claus sailed to the beach, accompanied by two dark-skinned assistants and five Snow Maidens, and only one Snow Maiden was white, the other four Snow Maidens were black and curvy. To receive a gift, children had to take part in a competition and win. In general, everything is budget-friendly, without any frills or show-offs. The main attributes of a holiday are present, there is a sea, there are palm trees, there is a place to eat, there are basic entertainments, there is something to do in the evening, there are excursions. The balcony of our room overlooked the playground where she played in the evening live music. Some people don’t like this kind of proximity, but we really liked it when a live saxophone, or a guitar, or a piano played from 21:00 to 22:00. Beach towels were changed every day, and you could also get a free soccer or volleyball ball and tennis rackets. You can see more about the animation in the photos and videos on YouTube, links will be at the end of the review. One animator brought her two children, aged 8-10 years, who brought in the rest of the children, and her animation went off with a bang.

Last time I wrote and I will repeat again that this is a budget hotel in the tradition of the best Soviet boarding houses, clean sea, no frills or frills, good food, clean rooms. Ten days flew by quickly, and if you make an accurate calculation, then the day of arrival we were on the road, and arrived at the hotel at 17:00, that is, formally we found the day, but in fact our day of rest was lost, and the day of departure was also actually lost, because at 11:50, with German punctuality, minute by minute, a fighter came to the room for our suitcases, which we were very pleasantly surprised, since we hotel guide warned about the lack of punctuality of the Dominicans. On the day of departure, I went to the reception early in the morning, handed over the cylinder from the safe, paid our expenses at the hotel, and ordered a fight for 11:50. If you get up at 8:00, have breakfast and go to the sea at 9:00, and return to the room to collect things at 11:00, it turns out that only a couple of hours at sea on the day of departure, but formally this day is also counted by the tour operator, like a day in the Dominican Republic.

In fact we have 8 full days rest and 9 nights. Taking into account the time adjustment of +7 hours compared to Moscow, normal well-being begins on the third day of rest. According to magnets, the hotel has several souvenir shops and stalls; after going through the shops, I found out that the most cheap price for magnets in a store near the Vera Club, at first they asked for $4 per magnet, managed to negotiate down to $2.5, last year I bought magnets in the same store for $2.0. At the hotel we met our old friend Antonio, from whom we bought coconuts, the price of coconuts remained the same, at a dollar per coconut, but the purchase and sale began to resemble scenes from Hollywood films about the drug mafia, when garden service employees, as if accidentally passing by our sun lounger , they leave a bag of coconuts, and the buyer must put the money in an appointed place, where the coconut seller will then pick it up. As Antonio explained, the entire hotel area is lined with hidden cameras, monitored, and gardeners are punished for selling coconuts, which is why such methods of conspiracy are used. There is a real tension in the hotel with small dollar bills for coconuts and other services; in stores, mostly small dollar bills are required, and all tourists come with hundreds. After long and unsuccessful attempts to exchange hundreds of bills, Sasha from Ukraine told us that at the hotel reception there is an exchanger where you can exchange large bills for small ones. If you stand opposite the reception, the exchanger will be on the right, with the inscription “Exchange” in English on it.

At the hotel we met a Ukrainian woman, Sasha, who married a Dominican man and works in the hotel at the Tortuga agency. She told us that there is a very large Jumbo store in La Romana, which has a large selection of coffee and cocoa and prices are supposedly lower than in hotel souvenir shops for tourists. You can go to Jumbo by taxi, which is located outside the hotel gates. Taxi drivers immediately ask for $60, you refuse, they immediately offer you $40 round trip, and then the taxi waits for two hours while tourists walk around the store. This is the price per car, that is, one you are driving, or four people, the price does not change.

The Dominicans themselves travel by minibus; a minibus to Jumbo costs $2, and the travel procedure has its own characteristics. To go to Jumbo for $2, we leave the hotel, refuse a taxi, find shade from a tree, and stand on the road, waiting for an old, dead minibus like a Rafik or a gazelle. We let through expensive and new, beautiful minibuses, they are for tourists, we are interested in an old and rusty, broken minibus without air conditioning with windows open for ventilation. As soon as such a shabby bus appears, we raise our hands and shout “La Romana, Jumbo.” The dead car stops, we repeat to the driver our purpose of the trip a couple more times, he says “Okay”, we sit down and drive off. The peculiarity is that this driver does not have to pay anything, and as a rule, he goes to the bus station of the village of Bayahibe, where the driver showed us with his hand to another bus that went from Bayahibe to La Romana, we transferred to this bus, and there we already paid $2 per person. person.

The trip to La Romana from the Bayahibe bus station took about 30 minutes, and when we entered La Romana, at the second traffic light the driver turned to us and loudly said that we had arrived and gestured that we should get out. The bus stopped 100 meters before the store in the direction of the bus. We saw ahead on the left side of the road a large vertical red sign “Jumbo” in English, got off the bus, where we were correctly and politely attacked by local excursion sellers, who, after several decisive “No mani”, left us alone. In Jumbo, if you stand facing the store and your back to the road, in the very left corner there is a Burger King cafe, which has a free and clean toilet, as well as free Wi-Fi, the speed is really low, but you can send and receive messages , Can. Prices in “Jumba” for many goods are almost the same as in Moscow “Auchans”, some goods are a little more expensive, some are cheaper, you need to check. Our task was to purchase coffee and cocoa.

As it turned out, Santo Domingo coffee 460 grams is sold at the hotel for $10, see the photo for the review, and in the Jumbo store this coffee cost 274 pesos or $5.7, also look at the photo for the review, the rate is 48 Dominican pesos for 1 $. In terms of prices, we can say this: at Jumbo there is more choice, and the prices are almost 2 times cheaper than at the hotel. When we shopped, it turned out that we had spent 5,500 rubles on cocoa and coffee; the master’s card was accepted at the checkout without any problems; we were not asked to show a passport or identification document. At the exit from the Jumbo store, we were again attacked by excursion sellers and taxi drivers. Back the taxi driver agreed to take us to our hotel for $20, but we firmly decided to return to the hotel by bus, because we wanted to plunge into the Dominican hinterland and ride with local Dominicans. When the taxi drivers left us behind, I asked the store security guard where “Bus Stop tou Bayahibe” was located, the guard pointed in the direction of Bayahibe, in the direction from which we came, from where we came from the bus stop. I had to walk about 400 meters towards Bayahibe until a parking lot appeared where there were three dead and broken down buses, according to appearance these miracle tarantaks, we realized that we had come to a local bus stop.

When there were about thirty meters left before the bus, a skinny black man, apparently the driver’s assistant, ran up to us; by our bracelets, he determined which hotel we were from, and led us to the bus, which was already almost filled with people. We called the hotel again, and the driver said he would take us to the hotel. We got on the bus, a couple more blacks came up, the bus filled up, there were no empty seats left, and off we went. In Bayahib, at the bus station, the driver asked me to go to the bank and change $20 there, since the driver did not have change from $20, and while I was at the bank, the whole bus was waiting for me, as I understood, the driver and passengers were in no particular hurry and The 10 minute delay didn't bother them much. The driver took us straight to the hotel gate, and we safely got to our room. During the trip, no one treated us badly, everyone knew perfectly well that we were tourists, they offered their services, we refused, and they left us alone.

In general, as a result of such an outing, we all had a little stress, a little adrenaline, extreme sports, we saw how ordinary Dominicans actually live and how they drive, walked around the hotel grounds, and came to the conclusion that the Dominican paradise has a very an ugly, unsightly downside that cannot be seen or felt while living in hotels and traveling on new comfortable air-conditioned buses. If you live in a hotel, then everything is fine and wonderful, but if you live in the Dominican Republic permanently, which many dreamed of while lying on sun loungers in a hotel, then it should be noted that the Dominican Republic is a poor country, and you need to very carefully choose your place of residence, place work, which is very, very difficult in the Dominican Republic, that is, there is a lot of work, but the salaries for these available jobs very, very low. According to local reviews, they pay very little, so the salary of most hotel employees is about $300, and prices in stores for food and household goods are the same as in Moscow, try to live in Moscow on $300 a month. And I have never seen locals swimming in the sea or going to the sea. In the villages of Bayahibe and La Romana there are a lot of young people who do nothing, a lot of idle people wandering idly through the streets. They are clean, they don’t stink, they are definitely not homeless, but they are dressed very modestly, in old, worn things, it is obvious that they do not live richly, and they have nothing to do.

Three days before departure, the hotel guide Ivan put a schedule for leaving the hotel in a folder for tourists. Via the Internet, a day before departure, we went through electronic registration on a Rossiya airline flight from Punta Cana to Moscow. We checked in just an hour after check-in began, but already 80% of the seats on the plane were occupied, and there were only three seating options for all three of us to sit next to each other. Unfortunately, Ivan, our hotel guide, never got in touch at all during our entire vacation, although he took our phone numbers from us and asked us to call him by voice and via the Internet using the WhatsApp and Viber services for any question, promised to send us a newsletter on WhatsApp and Viber about the departure and time of arrival of the bus to the hotel, but he did not send the newsletter, and when our bus to the airport was 55 minutes late to our hotel, we tried to call Ivan several times on WhatsApp and Viber, Ivan told us did not answer, for which he was given the lowest score in the questionnaire for communication skills. We had a feeling of abandonment and uncertainty, either they forgot about us, this sometimes happens, and we need to call a taxi and get to the airport on our own, or the bus is late, and we just need to wait a little more time. As it turned out, our bus was late because two new Russians got drunk on rum and delayed the departure of the bus from their hotel. Upon arrival at our hotel, these two new Russians went to get drunk in the bar of our hotel and the transfer guide ran around our hotel for about thirty minutes, trying to find these new Russians in order to persuade them to come on the bus and go to the airport to fly to Russia. As a result, the new Russians decided to stay in the hotel bar and refused to go to the airport and fly to Russia. This is how it turned out in the end.

On the way to the airport, according to the long-standing tradition of all tour operators, we were taken for a scam on loot to a store for tourists, where the prices for everything are 2-3 times higher than in the hotel stores, in Duty Free, or in the same “ Jumbo." The tourists were experienced, and therefore no one bought anything in this store, but many took advantage of the free toilet room in this store. On the bus we were given questionnaires, and many tourists noted in the questionnaire that the tour operator took tourists to expensive shops, and the prices for excursions from the official tour operator were 2-3 times higher than those of local travel agencies. Some directly wrote in their questionnaires that the tour operator was deceiving, promising the most low prices, but brought it to a store where prices are more expensive. In this situation, the most unpleasant thing is not even that you overpaid an extra 20-50 $ for a bottle of rum or a pack of coffee, or overpaid 200-350 $ for an excursion, but that such a scam is the official policy of tour operators who do this deliberately and organized. Dear tour operators, there is actually a crisis in Russia, the country is under sanctions, and offering a dolphin excursion, watching dolphins jump out of the water for 30 minutes, for 18,000 rubles, is, you know, too much. Maybe for Americans or Germans this kind of money for dolphins is a small thing, but for tourists from Russia it is a significant amount. As a result, almost none of the experienced tourists go on excursions from the officials, and they don’t buy anything in the stores where the official tour operator takes them. The times of scams, as it was 5-10 years ago, have already passed, but local hotel guides have not changed their minds, and continue to expect suckers with big money, as in the joke, Vasya, how much did you buy a bottle of rum for? For $200. What a fool, I bought exactly the same one over there around the corner for $500! :))))

A modern tourist, as a rule, knows English and a little local language, knows how to use the Internet, confidently rents cars, finds friends in the host country from locals or emigrants from Russia, and has a fairly good understanding of the prices of goods. One married couple was completely unlucky, they ordered VIP excursions from Ivan for more than a thousand dollars, some of the excursions did not take place at all, and some were in the general group, but they still have not received the money back (and we were already on the bus to the airport), and Ivan did not contact them. The transfer guide promised to help and figure everything out, but since it was on the bus that was taking us to the airport, and in two hours we were flying to Russia, it was obvious that her words were just routine politeness, in order to somehow smooth out the unpleasant situation.

The return flight went without problems, as always, I was a little shaken Bermuda Triangle. We landed in Vnukovo exactly on schedule and quickly completed entry formalities. Since we needed to fly further, we tried to go through the transit counter, but they explained to us that if you arrive international flight and then you fly on a domestic Russian flight, you need to get your luggage, leave the arrival area in the “city”, then go up to the second floor and check your luggage at the airline counters; you can’t do this at the transit counter, it’s so inconveniently located the transit check-in counters in Vnukovo. We flew to Krasnodar with Pobeda Airlines, which changed its hand luggage rules on November 15, 2017. Now the volume of hand luggage is important for the airline, and it doesn’t matter at all how much your hand luggage weighs, the main thing is that the hand luggage fits in the calibrator, when checking in for the flight, only the luggage was weighed, which we distributed in advance, to avoid conflicts and extortion during check-in 17-18 kilograms per suitcase, hand luggage They didn’t weigh her at check-in, they just put hand luggage tags on her.

The overall impression of the holiday was good, everyone was happy, but there weren’t enough days, 8 full days to restore health is, of course, very, very little. So the budget hotel has once again confirmed its reputation, and if you need service, lackeys with knowledge of five languages, if you eat whole bowls of lobster and shrimp with truffles every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner, then you definitely need another hotel, and most likely in Punta Cana. And since for me the main thing is the sea and inexpensive price, we only came to the room to change clothes and spend the night, I really liked the hotel, minor household and service inconveniences do not matter to me, so whether to go or not to go to this hotel, draw your own conclusions, look at photos and videos, choose according to your own wallet and expectations from the service. p.s. Do not buy excursions from hotel guides. There are travel agencies in the hotel itself; you can ask taxi drivers at the exit from the hotel, or at the market on the seashore, or in Bayahib. It will be much cheaper. Local hotel guides official tour operators got greedy. And last year there were frauds with the status of rooms, people bought deluxe, and they were placed in standard, so be careful, study the difference between the rooms and check what class of room you were placed in.
p.s.s. For those who don’t have enough information in the reviews on the site, there are a lot of videos on YouTube and photos on the Yandex Pictures and Yandex Photos service, videos and photos can easily be found by the name of the hotel “Be Live Collection Canoa”, because one is better Seeing once is worth reading ten times.

How it was and how it became... (Impressions of the holiday).
We vacationed from December 24, 2016 to January 6, 2017. The composition of the vacationers is a married couple. We rested in this hotel second time. The first time was a year and a half ago, so comparisons will be made as necessary. The tour was purchased from Coral, the tour operator was Anex.
Why did you go to this hotel a second time?
The first time there were no particular complaints. And the price tags of Iberostar and Dreams were significantly inferior to Bee Liv Canoa.
In my review I will touch upon the work of not only the hotel staff, but also the work of the tour operator, because... I believe that he should directly participate in the recreation of tourists, and not just take a commission for the sale of tours and sell excursions. I will also evaluate the work of Azur Air, because... This airline belongs to the Anex group of companies and is “tailored” to work with this particular operator.
So let's go...

Flight. Part 1.
The vacation began with a “pleasant” moment - the flight was moved from 4 a.m. to 9 a.m. I’ll immediately warn that a number of tourists will be indignant about the charter, etc., but this is not the case here. On December 24, 2016, the entire Catholic world celebrates Christmas. We, as Orthodox people, obligatorily (at the request of the tour operator, supposedly in the Dominican Republic this is a mandatory requirement) paid for this celebration at the hotel. Accordingly, when we arrived at the hotel, the celebration was in full swing, and when we checked in, it was coming to an end. (Although we could have waited - we chipped in). This is such a service; if possible, I advise everyone to demand its inclusion in the package. Azur Air will help you take advantage of it to the fullest.
Dear Anex-Tour! I will take the liberty to make a statement from everything Orthodox world with a request to include the celebrations of Eid al-Adha, Hanukkah, Chinese New Year, etc. in the price of tour packages. It “costs us practically nothing - only 7,000 rubles per room,” and it’s a pleasure for you and the hotel. In addition, your flight map is extensive, there are countless nationalities and holidays (free marketing tip).
But seriously, in the Russian Federation this is called imposition of services. We need to work with Dominican partners, and not listen to their demands (unless, of course, this is their “trick” and not yours). It is you who are breaking the law in the Russian Federation.

Flight. Part 2.
To the Dominican Republic.
Almost verbatim message from the captain of the ship: “Dear passengers! Our flight takes place at an altitude of 10,000 meters, the temperature outside is -50 C. Due to this, the water in our systems has frozen, and we will not be able to offer you tea and coffee, and there may be interruptions in the water supply in the toilet.”
What kind of heresy is this? What kind of airline is this that flies at such a fucking altitude and in such cold? Why weren't passengers warned before departure? Yes, you have to pay the “northern” bonus. The same Emirates floats gently over the sea at a comfortable above-zero temperature in the rays of the setting sun, and they have tea and coffee, although the beer is warm.
Captain, in such situations you need to say the following: “Dear passengers. Our flight takes place at an altitude of 10,000 meters, the temperature outside is -50 C. With these two misfortunes, some kind of crap has fallen off, without which for some reason the water does not flow. Therefore, on behalf of our airline, I advise everyone to stop drinking and not get their hands dirty. Pleasant flight". What do they teach you there?
Before landing.
Announcement over loudspeaker: “Dear passengers! We are missing 3 more blankets. We strongly request that the property be returned to the company in order to avoid delays in the disembarkation of passengers.”
Who is threatening like that? Learn:
Announcement over loudspeaker: “Dear passengers! We are missing 3 more blankets. A huge request to return the company's property in order to avoid the shooting of the innocent sixth row of passengers. Thanks for understanding".

Flight. Conclusion.
Take-off, landing, flight attendant work - everything is fine. Food – you can eat. The chairs are uncomfortable, there is little room for both legs and shoulders. Regarding the purchase of seats increased comfort I'll describe it below.

Accommodation. Part 1.
Last time we noted that the rooms were not just tired, but very tired. It needs repairs and not just cosmetic ones. But we only spend the night in the room, so it’s not critical. This time everything did not go so smoothly...
We arrived late and were not kept long at the reception. The room was given in the seventh building on the third floor. The room is standard. There were no questions during check-in. But the room had a connecting door to the next room, which did not let us get bored.
As it turned out, an additional option for our stay included a LONELY, EVER DRUNK CANADIAN NEIGHBOUR. There is no soundproofing in this room as such. Usually he showed up in the room around 3 am and it began... This Canadian was shuffling along the floor like an old skier. Moreover, it felt like his ski track ran in close proximity to our bed. He turned on the light in his room, it was dawning in ours. He watched TV, we listened to him. He brought women into the room, we tried not to interfere. He fell, we sympathized.
After the first night, the decision was unanimously made to change the room, fortunately the next day we met with the hotel guide. There are no questions for the Canadian, he came to rest and does it as best he can. I didn't want to make a scandal.

Hotel guide. Elena. Part 1.
The only goal of a hotel guide, and this is not news, is to sell you something. We were in the Dominican Republic for the fifth time, we attended all the excursions and more than once, so for the Anex employee we were of the same interest as for Putin the opinion of Honduras on Crimea. The hotel guide, as it turned out, has been working in the Dominican Republic for only 4 months, and does not speak Spanish, so newly arrived tourists asked our opinion about the need to purchase this or that excursion, what and where is located in the hotel.

Cost of excursions.
All excursions in the Dominican Republic are made up of nothing. And should be perceived simply as adding variety to beach holiday. I can’t recommend anything else besides Airborne Safari, and that’s only thanks to the charisma of the Dominican Republic’s chief paratrooper, Cuban Harold. I assure you that half of the time of excursions purchased from a hotel guide you will spend at “super farms” and “super stores” where you can buy “thanks to” the guide real, genuine and at “unique” prices cigars, coffee, cocoa, larimar and so on, so on… Do you need it? Almost all excursions in the Dominican Republic require a high school level of knowledge of English (Spanish) to order drinks and ask where the toilet is. You will understand that there are palm trees and the sea around you even if they tell you this in Japanese.
For example. The cost of an excursion to Catalina Island for 1 person with guide Anex is $99. The price includes lunch. OK. The cost of the same excursion at the hotel itself is $50. I don't know if there is lunch there. But... There are local small travel agencies in the village of Bayahibe. The cost of the same excursion…35 dollars!!! We went out of curiosity and compared. There is no lunch. There is rum, soft drinks, fruit. We arrived and were picked up from the hotel ( private transfer), returned, everything was done at a good level. The group is only 12 people. Conclusion - the cost of a lunch of rice, chicken, etc. when purchasing a hotel guide excursion for two people it costs 130 dollars (10,000 rubles). Modestly)))) All for you, dear tourists. For reference. Had lunch at Italian cafe in Bayahibe. The cost of the lobster dinner with alcohol was $44.

Hotel guide. Elena. Part 2.
After the excursions are sold, the guide receives a unique offer to purchase a luxury seat for the return flight. Attention!!! The guide's cost for this service is $100 per seat. On the official website of Azur Air, the cost is indicated at 1,500 rubles. What is this??? When asked about the cost, the answer was: “I don’t know, these are the prices in the Dominican Republic.” Dear CEO Azur Air, in my opinion, good money is passing you by. There is no need to thank you for the information. Your Pavlik Morozov.
We go with our guide Elena to decide on changing the number. The receptionist promises that he will solve this problem only for her sake, but at the same time says scary word for any foreigner in the Dominican Republic, “mañana” (which translates from Spanish as tomorrow, from “Dominican” - never). I tell Elena that the issue will not be resolved. I laughed. She said that if the issue is not resolved, then you need to call her and in general she comes to the hotel every day. This is called high self-esteem and ignorance of the country in which you work. Guess what happened the next day?

Accommodation. Part 2.
“Yesterday I told you to come tomorrow, but you came today.”
Tomorrow has arrived. Thanks to my Canadian neighbor, the night was interesting. I'm going to the reception. What are they telling me? Right. Today the issue of changing the number cannot be resolved, come back when? Correct again. Mañana. I swear with the reception staff and guest service. Useless. What does hotel guide Elena do? She's great, she takes care of her nerves. She is not at the hotel and does not answer the phone. We didn't give up. We call on hotline Anexa. Let's explain the problem. They promise to help, perhaps even today, but most likely “manyana”. They said they would call back. Nu-nu. Did you call back? Let it be a secret)))
Another night has passed. The neighbor became suspiciously quiet, apparently saving his strength for the gala concert. But now the passion for sports has begun to play within us. Announcement of the fight “Russian tourists against everyone.” I'm going to the reception. They ask you to come at 14:00. The issue is resolved. They show some kind of printout, where opposite our room number there is another number. Apparently, where they want to move us. Just in case, we call the Anex hotline. They confirm that thanks to the dedicated work of all office employees and their family members, we will indeed be relocated today. We wait.
Fanfare. We go with a hotel employee to the third building to look at the room. I’m happy, my wife is happy, Anex’s employees and their family members are happy, the Dominican is smiling too.
“Americans are stupid” (M. Zadornov).
To this day, neither I nor the hotel employee can understand why American tourists did not want Russians to share their rooms with them. Why didn't they join in our joy? For some reason they waved their hands and said that they lived here. And in general, this is not Crimea and it will not be possible to move in based on the voting results. We don't know anything. By the way, we have an official printout from the reception. Friendship won. The Dominican goes to call somewhere. Anex employees begin to hiccup.
The Dominican returns. Let's go to the fourth building to watch another number. We approach the door on which hangs a “Do not disturb” sign))). We open, no one lives, the room is naturally not cleaned, but we don’t give a damn. We decide to move.
I don’t know what kind of people lived in this room before us, but together with the residents, the home port was changed: hair dryer, umbrella, TV remote control, plugs for the sink and bathtub, and even light bulbs. With all my heart I would like to applaud them and say a big thank you to them. My wife no longer swears when I take tea bags home from the hotel. The refrigerator is naturally broken. A fairy tale, not a number.
The absence of things and the presence of breakdowns are revealed gradually. Every time I go to respechen. My feet are starting to hurt and my flip-flops are starting to wear out. The reception staff begin to gradually forget when I appear English language, then Spanish, they begin to suffer from excessive modesty, trying not to get noticed. Ha. That's not all. I forgot 2 flash drives in the safe in the previous room. When I voiced this again, the receptionist turned greenish, uncharacteristic for a Dominican.
I returned the flash drives.
The move is complete. Thanks to him, 3 days of rest passed unnoticed.

Numbers.
The rooms require renovation. The declared 5 stars don't suit it at all. Everything worked. The new TV remote control I brought turned out to be universal. What he turned on and off remained a mystery to us, but the light came on when pressed. Beauty! We decided to leave it. That's why we watched one channel. There are no Russian channels. Hotel administration, AU!!! Russian tourists there are a lot in the hotel. In my opinion, the problem of connecting the Russian channel is not worth a damn.
A new refrigerator was delivered on the same day.
The minibar is replenished normally (beer, water). Tipping still plays a role in this. Beer used to be in 0.33 liter cans, now it's 0.2 liters. (You are on the right road, comrades. The economy should be economical and so on.) There is room for improvement. Gel, shampoo, soap without question.
The number of towels cannot be logically explained. Apparently depends on lunar calendar. We didn't have it with us. Couldn't check.
Cleaning. The floors are washed and the bathroom is cleaned. Don't expect cleanliness like at home, it's not possible. Bed linen is changed.
No theft was observed.
Safe is paid. Naturally. This is 5 stars. You need to get the lock for the safe at the reception. For 13 nights we paid 46 dollars - not cheap. But there is no need to be greedy; solving the problem that has arisen will be much more expensive. Yes, I almost forgot!!!
First day, first room, just checked in. There's a knock on the door. I open it. A hotel employee is standing there. Security. He explains with gestures that he must pick up the cylinder from the safe, supposedly this is the cylinder from the safe of another room. He doesn't speak English. It's just some kind of p...c. I pay for the safe, and after half an hour they take away my identity. It doesn't matter what kind of metal box this mask is from, they fit everywhere. Well, take it, give another one in return. Fuck it. And anyway, what does the security guard have to do with it? Maybe this is his personal identity? He probably rents it out to the hotel, and when he goes home after his shift, he takes it home to lock up the apartment for the night. I'm going to the reception. They don't know. They shrug. It takes 20-30 minutes to resolve the issue. They give out a new identity. This is a service, this is what I understand.
Internet is paid ($60 per week). The price is as if the hotel is located in Cuba. There is a free one, but it’s like in the DMB movie: “Do you see the groundhog (Internet)? - No. “And he is.” Local legend states that the Internet should be used at night and early in the morning by the pool, and only if there is no wind and there is a full moon. We'll make do. Thanks for taking care of me.
Yes. Try not to take rooms on the third floor. During rush hour you will have problems with water pressure.

Beach. Sea. Pool.
The entry into the sea has changed. And in a negative way. A year and a half ago, entry into the sea was almost perfect. Now there are stones. This is a minus.
A good place on the beach must be reserved in advance. Around 7-8 o'clock. Tourists from all countries do this, not just Russians. I feel like there are fewer sunbeds, but there are enough. The condition is normal. There are no tables for sun loungers.
Women who smoke thin cigarettes, do not show them off. The locals will torture you to “shoot”. For some reason they are not indifferent to them. One day, the wife stopped an attempt to steal a pack of such cigarettes by an employee cleaning the beach. He was pardoned and awarded 1 cigarette.
The beach seems to be clean, there wasn't a lot of trash noticed. Leaves periodically fly from palm trees, but there are not many of them.
From observations. Some Beach Chief comes to the beach. A distinctive feature of bosses is gray T-shirts. He starts screaming and sputtering. The employees responsible for cleaning the area appear, sweeping something, making diligent faces. After 3 minutes, music starts playing, the Beach Chief begins to dance, and his subordinates gradually join him. That's it, the cleaning is finished. And so it is in everything. The Dominican workers are like gov….. Well, they don’t work very well.
There are 2 bars on the beach. In fact, one. One of the bars is located on the right at the edge of the hotel territory (if you look at the sea). Who placed it there and why is apparently a mystery even to the bartender working there. There is no one there at all, since there is no entry into the sea. I suspect that when one of the hotel employees messes up, he is assigned to work at this bar, because... Lack of communication for a Dominican is one of the most serious punishments. The bar located in the center periodically fails to cope with the influx of sufferers. The line is sometimes 20 people long.
Bartenders. The guys are cheerful, responsive, don’t skimp on alcohol, and don’t know how to make cocktails.
We didn't use the pool. But it's really dirty. For 2 weeks we never saw the bottom being cleaned.

Nutrition.
Citizens, don’t complain that the hotel doesn’t have enough seafood. You don't need them. Dominicans don't know how to cook them. And never learn. Because they don't understand how they can eat it. The level of the hotel does not play any role here.
In general, we have no questions for the hotel regarding food. We are not capricious people in this regard, everything seemed to be enough.
However, there are a few but...
The juices are unnatural. Remember "Yupi"? Fresh juice for breakfast - depending on your luck.
No tomato juice. (The secret is in the lobby bar).
Bad coffee in the Dominican Republic is nonsense. But in this hotel it is possible. Where did they buy it? At breakfast in a five-star hotel, are you waiting for the coffee to arrive? In vain. Go yourself. Don't spend 30-40 minutes on this.
It’s probably hard not to agree that almost every person loves freshly cooked scrambled eggs or an omelet for breakfast. And so you sit down at the table. Op. Trouble. Not salted.
The quest “Salt the Fried Eggs” begins.
Take a salt shaker and start shaking it. No, you can’t complete the task that way. Humidity.
Walkthrough. Turn the salt shaker over and take out the rubber stopper. Then we lean it against the hole, leaving a small gap so that the rice does not pass through, and gently shake it. That's it, the quest was completed under the puzzled looks of foreign tourists who were waiting for the replacement of the fourth salt shaker.
But seriously, I can’t understand why the cook doesn’t salt the scrambled eggs, as is done in all other hotels, incl. in the Dominican Republic. What is this, some kind of signature feature? If so, then I didn't appreciate it.
We went to a snack bar for lunch. The choice is not rich, but there is something to eat. There is soup. Therefore, if you don’t really want to go to the main restaurant, you won’t lose much.
Gala dinners.
There is nothing to say about Christmas dinner (see above).
New Year's dinner. The day before the New Year, a letter was placed in the room asking us to come to the lobby and make an appointment for dinner. We came and signed up. They also offered to buy an upgrade for New Year's dinner. There are two types of them: 20 and 30 dollars. It seems that by the pool you can taste overseas squash caviar for this money. I apologize for paying money to the tour operator. Yeah. For New Year's dinner. But it turned out that it was sort of New Year’s, but not quite. But New Year's. But not 100%. Some kind of bullshit. They didn't pay.
Retreat. New Year We celebrated with two other companies Moscow time on the beach. Who said that the import of food into the Dominican Republic is prohibited? It may be prohibited, but if necessary, then it is possible. If you don’t carry a box with 20 kg of tomatoes under your arm, then no one cares. We brought with us:
- caviar (butter and bread in a restaurant),
- Olivier in Bonduelle jars (mayonnaise, sausage and eggs in the restaurant, dishes in the same place),
- tangerines,
- Sakhalin smelt.
The guys brought 5 bottles of champagne and a whole watermelon. Believe me, our New Year's table and atmosphere compared favorably with the hotel's main restaurant. Since Vladimir Vladimirovich P. did not want to adapt to the operating schedule of the hotel Internet, his congratulations were heard over the phone and to the shouts of “HURRAY!!!” celebrated the New Year 2017.
What was 7,000 rubles in the main restaurant? As always, just decorated. If it’s a salad, then it’s in a pineapple, if it’s a waiter, then it’s in a cap, etc. There was a lot of seafood, but little use. Shrimps, which for some reason were pinned with toothpicks to a structure that apparently was supposed to mean a Christmas tree. Gentlemen, this tree stinks, and not at all like pine needles. The wife took the lobster, it turned out to have seaweed inside, the meat was brown, and after smelling it, for some reason she refused to eat it. Capricious. After that, they didn’t pay attention to oysters and mussels.
Even for a festive dinner, the concept of the main restaurant in serving drinks has not changed. The waiter will offer you red and white wine, as well as a New Year's drink - beer. For the rest, if you wish, go to the lobby yourself, or financially interest the waiter. Comfortable. The management wrinkles its forehead and thinks, the waiters don’t strain themselves for free, you relax.
We didn’t go to ala carte, we went last time. There's nothing to do there. Uninteresting and tasteless.
In terms of nutrition, everything seems to be okay.

Village of Bayahibe.
I'll explain in detail how to get there. Let's go to the beach. Turn right towards the lighthouse (Iberostar Hotel). We pass a mini market, a row of hotels, a lighthouse, and walk along the beach past Iberostar. Behind Iberostar there is another mini market. We don't need him. Behind the market municipal beach, where the local population rests. Here we turn right into the interior of the island and go out onto the asphalt road. You can't go wrong - locals who come to the beach park here. To your left is the hotel fence, to your right are thickets and some kind of swamp. After 150 meters the road turns left. We walk another 300-400 meters and we are there. There are a lot of restaurants, shops, local travel agencies. If you want to save money, go, don't be lazy. Price range: lobster (delicious) 20 dollars, cigar (good) about 10 dollars (at the hotel the same 25 dollars), magnet 1 dollar, etc. Bargain. Here you can buy rum, coffee, cocoa in the store. Prices compare favorably with hotels and duty free.

Territory.
Nothing remarkable. Medium size, everything clean and tidy. There are many different birds that take great pleasure in relieving themselves on the sidewalks.

Animation.
Present. For me, that's enough good quality. But it is far from the level of the same Iberostar. We didn't go to the evening performances. Since everything is the same - Michael Jackson, hocus-pocus, etc. Artists migrate from one hotel to another. We don’t go to comedy performances and various competitions, because... you don’t understand anything, everyone around you is laughing and clapping, you, like an idiot, are also clapping, but only with your eyes.

Greed.
This is the first hotel where we encountered local vacationers. The hotel management apparently decided that selling weekend tours local population, he will not only earn money, but also strengthen friendship between peoples. Gentlemen, I am not a racist, but I will still express my opinion. If a dark-skinned Dominican can afford himself and his family to pay for a 1-day visit to an all-inclusive hotel, he automatically ranks himself among the host of celestials. You have to see how they behave. But he's cool and he doesn't care what they think of him. They are the loudest, they are the most demanding, they need the most space, the queue at the bar is not for them... In general, this particular hotel has this problem.

Well, the weather.
Everything is as usual. Rain at night or early morning. Then it’s dry, warm and everything is fine. The only cloudy day before lunch was January 1st. But January 1st is the same in all countries, things get better by lunchtime))))

P.S.
I am a fairly positive person, I try not to notice all the unpleasant little things. But this vacation somehow got out of the general order.
All of the above pleasures cost us 320,000 rubles.
With your permission, I will present the conclusion in a fictitious dialogue.

Will you come to our hotel again?
- Certainly.
- When?
- Magnana.

All. Thank you all for your attention, good luck and have a good rest.

This hotel is simply ugly. Recommending it to anyone is a crime against humanity. Please, if you have the opportunity to go to some other hotel, do not book Be live collection canoa under any circumstances. There are already so many reviews about trashed rooms, disgusting food and rude attitude. They are all 100% true. Be live collection canoa employs unscrupulous people whose goal is to deceive guests and scam them out of money. Be carefull! The staff is deliberately misleading you. But let's start in order. We did not see any advantages in the hotel. The standard rooms are bad, very old and tired, smell damp, the plumbing works poorly, be prepared that it will be very difficult to flush. The coolest thing is the air conditioning. I have never heard such sounds, don’t forget your earplugs, otherwise you won’t be able to sleep. The food is worse than in the canteen; it was delicious once in a Japanese a la carte restaurant. The main restaurant is open air, so there are a lot of flies inside that crawl on the food. Due to the fact that there are a lot of birds in the area, they often fly into the restaurant and walk right over the baked goods, which is just near the entrance. The quality of the dishes also leaves much to be desired; our dishes were divided into 2 categories - “tinny” and “so-so”. Due to the fact that the restaurant is essentially open air, it becomes very scary that in such heat the food can quickly spoil and no one controls it in any way, because no one cares about you. The cocktails are very sweet, not tasty. That's okay. In our case, the epic happened when leaving. The hotel has free Wi-Fi, which practically does not work. My husband urgently needed normal internet to resolve a work issue. 1 day of paid Internet costs $10, but for some reason it is no different from free Internet. When registering to use this Wi-Fi, your last name and room number are indicated; payment, as expected, is made during check out. We used this internet for 1 day with 4 gadgets. When we checked out we were presented with a bill of $40. While throughout the civilized world, people living in the same room can use paid Internet from any gadget, at the be live collection canoa hotel you will have to pay every time you access the Internet from a new device. This is not written anywhere and no one talks about it unless you ask. In response to our bewilderment and arguments that this was not said anywhere, the reception staff (photo attached) replied that these are our problems, they are not obliged to explain anything and if we do not pay the bill right away, they will call the police. 40 dollars is not that much money. We were incredibly upset that they treated us like that. It would seem that apologize, promise something and that’s it, the issue is closed. Instead, threats, rudeness, unwillingness to delve into the situation. How do you like this attitude towards guests? We are very glad that we took a ticket for only 7 days, because there is absolutely nothing else to do in this hotel. It was our first time in the Dominican Republic and to be honest, the impression was spoiled.
