What is interesting in Pomorie, Bulgaria. The most interesting places in Pomorie. Entertainment in Pomorie

When we were choosing a city for a holiday in Bulgaria, we simply pointed our finger at Pomorie, without reading reviews, without studying the sights and guided only by the fact that Pomorie is located only 20 kilometers from Burgas airport. What came of it? And it turned out to be a completely successful choice, which we have never regretted. About how to have fun in Pomorie and the attractions of it resort town and will be discussed in this review.

Pomorie is an ancient city, founded by the Greeks back in the 5th century. True, nothing Greek has survived here. Now Pomorie is a calm and quiet city, with no big amount attractions, the Old Town, and hotels specializing in mud therapy.

Mud therapy didn’t interest us much, although we went to the salt museum and looked at the Pomorie mud next to it. But we’ll talk about what to see in the city later. First, about why we liked our holiday in Pomorie.

What we liked here is that there are no crowds of tourists demanding bread and circuses. Until noon there are practically no people on the streets of Pomorie (and we were vacationing during the high season). Everyone who has arrived in large numbers is either on the beaches or in spa salons. There are no abundance of tourist shops, noisy restaurants with deafening music, open cars driving at indecent speeds. Hotels here coexist with residential buildings.

Would you say that we were bored? No, it was not. We spent the first half of our holiday in Pomorie on the beach or under air conditioning in a hotel, and the second half we drove around Bulgaria in a rented car.

At the stroke of midnight, the city turns off the lights in the literal sense of the word - the beer, juice and water outlets close, restaurants do not accept new visitors, the music stops and the amusement park closes. So it’s quite possible to sleep with the windows open - there is no noise on the street. We are sure of this because we lived in the hotel Hotel & Spa St. George, located on the pedestrian (and therefore the most tourist) street of Pomorie.

This is the city where you don’t have to worry about a child turning a corner - nothing will happen to him around that corner. We also liked the fact that prices in Pomorie are lower than in other cities in Bulgaria. And the sea is always close (maximum 15-20 minutes on foot) regardless of where you live. This is explained by the fact that the town is located on a peninsula.

Advice for holidays in Pomorie. The old part of the city (where we vacationed) was built up a long time ago, so there are no large five-star hotels here. They have filled the outskirts of the city - the one where the water park is located. And this part is the most uninteresting. If you book a 5-star hotel, you may get comfort, but you won’t be able to take a pleasant walk in the evening near the hotel - there is nowhere, the road leading to Burgas and dry grass, and from the windows there are objects under construction. You will have to walk two kilometers to the center. So choose a hotel in the old part of the city - it will be cheaper and more attractive. But the hotels differ little in the quality of services provided.

Reviews of entertainment in Pomorie

As I already said, there are no noisy entertainments here. There is a small amusement park and several dozen souvenir tents in the center of the old part of the city near the pedestrian street. You can rent multi-seat bicycles (I don’t know what they are called correctly, but they are located in the same old city near the sidewalks and there will be no problems finding them). A puppeteer performs in the evenings on the pedestrian street. They say that the father performed for many years, and now his son has replaced him:

He handles dolls masterfully - for several evenings in a row we hung out for a long time on this section of the pedestrian street.

Perhaps the most active pastime for those who are tired of beaches and hotel pools is a water park almost at the exit from Pomorie. The water park in Pomorie is large and I know those who went to it several times during their vacation. But our Tanya doesn’t know how to swim yet and is afraid to slide down the slides into the water, so we immediately abandoned the water park.

Cafes and restaurants begin to work at full capacity quite late, in the first half of the day, not only can you have a full meal, you can’t always drink coffee in a seemingly open cafe. That is why I advise everyone who decides to choose a holiday in Pomorie, rather than in another Bulgarian city, to choose a hotel with breakfast included. Or live in an apartment and cook breakfast yourself. But you don’t have to order lunch and dinner – after noon there are plenty of offers:

There are many beaches in Pomorie, they are similar to each other, like twins - sand, sun loungers and umbrellas. And rescue animals who strictly make sure that no one swims beyond the buoys (nowhere else have we come across such vigilant guards of your life - they will even swim towards you if you do not respond to their whistles and swim away behind the buoys). There are catamarans and scooters on the beaches, but, of course, not in such numbers as in Turkey, beloved by many.

Pomorie is located on a spit, and in the old central part there is an embankment, on which, if desired, you can also swim - stairs lead into the water. You won’t be able to sunbathe here, but no one will whistle at you and you can swim away, if you’re in good physical shape, even to Sozopl.

Along the embankment there are open restaurants and a pier for pleasure boats and private boats - in the evenings you can swim along the shore, and during the day sail somewhere further away.

So the conclusion about entertainment in Pomorie is that you definitely won’t get adrenaline here unless you compete in swimming speed with lifeguards on the beaches. But there will be no crowds, as, for example, in Golden Sands.

We didn’t get bored in Pomorie on vacation solely due to the fact that we rode around the country for a week, which I already wrote about above. Although if you go to Bulgaria in order to get treatment with mud - better place you can't imagine.

Advice. If you are bored with your holiday in Pomorie, there is no car nearby, and the conditions of organized excursions are not suitable for you, then on your own or by public transport (bus) from Pomorie you can go to Nessebar, Sozopl, Burgas and Sunny Beach - these trips are easy to make within the framework of one day. The rest of the cities are too far away to have time to see everything and return to Pomorie on the same day.

Sights of Pomorie

Thracian tomb. Honestly? Nothing. This was the first attraction of Pomorie (and all of Bulgaria) that we saw. Therefore the following interesting places made up for the disappointment. The tomb is a stone structure inside a hill with coins left as souvenirs by tourists and an explanatory plaque. The only interesting thing is the very fact of the presence of the tomb - this is the only such structure in the entire Balkans. But there are no excursions here. And there are no ancient mummies either. So I don’t even know whether to recommend this place or not. Probably not. Although... You won’t see it yourself, you won’t know whether you like the place or not, right?

The Thracian tomb is located outside the city, but you can reach it on foot in a maximum of forty minutes. Or you can get there by bus from the bus station. Coordinates of the Thracian tomb: N 42° 34.048′ E 27° 35.804′

Monastery of St. George. This is a functioning Orthodox monastery. True, it is not at all ancient - it was built approximately in the 19th century (although the exact dates are unknown).

According to legend, a servant of a certain Turkish bey had a dream that somewhere here there was a source with healing water, capable of healing a sick owner. I dreamed and dreamed, you never know. Which of us has what kind of dreams, right? But then the servant began to dream about St. George the Victorious and tortured the poor servant so much that he went in search of the source. And, of course, I found it. The Turkish Bey was cured and he (out of happiness, apparently) converted to Christianity. And on the site of the source he founded a chapel, which later turned into a monastery. And, apparently, completely out of happiness, he became the first abbot of the monastery.

The monastery is interesting, with many fruit-bearing trees and beds, there is a primitive poultry yard and, of course, a chapel with holy water, into which there is a queue.

It must be said that the Bulgarians revere St. George and his images and monuments will haunt you everywhere.

You can get to the Monastery of St. George in Pomorie on foot in about 20 minutes from anywhere in the city; there is only one road leading here. Coordinates N 42° 34.044′ E 27° 37.070′

Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The church is located on the pedestrian street of Pomorie, in its old part. A hundred meters away there is an amusement park, and there are ice cream stands everywhere in the second half of the cafe. So you don’t have to look for this landmark of Pomorie - you’ll just stumble into it. Again, this is not ancient building, it was laid in 1890. The architect's idea was grandiose, but was not realized due to the unexpected death of the sculptor. An interesting fact is that the icons for the church were painted by Russian icon painters. Festivals of Orthodox chants are held in the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Salt Museum. An interesting small museum, on the way to which you will meet a Pomorie lake and black people.

This is where those who save on medical procedures smear themselves with mud. The museum hosts individual excursions(due to the small flow of tourists), there is a fairly good exhibition telling about the stages of making salt by evaporation in the sun. Inside the museum there are photographs and necessary utensils. Near the museum you can clearly see the pools for drying salt, as it is still produced here (albeit in tiny, “souvenir” quantities). Even our six-year-old Tanya was interested. Once upon a time in Pomorie, salt was produced on an industrial scale and even Pomorin toothpaste was made, but now the city authorities limited themselves to exhibition samples.

  • Ticket prices for the Salt Museum:
  • Adult – 3 leva;
  • Children – 2 leva;
  • Let six-year-old Tanya in for free.
  • Opening hours: The Salt Museum opens at 8:00 a.m. on weekdays and 10:00 a.m. on weekends and closes at 6:00 p.m.
  • Museum coordinates: N 42° 33.930′ E 27° 37.907′

Historical part of the city(not to be confused with the Old Town!) In 1906, there was a terrible fire in Pomorie, in which almost the entire city perished. There are only a few houses left in which people still live. For this reason, you will not be allowed inside the courtyards, but it will be interesting to walk among the dark brown houses, covered with tiles, and not similar to all the other houses in Pomorie.

Pomorie (Bulgaria) - reviews from tourists

Travelers praise the mild climate of this resort and the clean sea. Very many local residents understand Russian and even know how to express themselves. In addition, this is one of the most budget resorts in Bulgaria. You will spend two times less money here than, say, on Golden Sands.

A holiday at this resort is more suitable for active tourists or those who come to improve their health. The crowd around is very respectable. Young people can be a bit bored; there are almost no conditions for children.

TOP 10 attractions of Pomorie

Not far from Pomorie, if you go towards Burgas, there is an important attraction of the resort - an antique domed tomb. This architectural monument is unique; no other similar structures have been found in the Balkans. The tomb was built in the 2nd-3rd century as a mausoleum for a noble Roman family who lived in Anhialo (that’s what Pomorie was called until 1934).

The tomb is hidden in a mound and consists of a long corridor (dromos) and a round crypt with a diameter of 11 meters. In the center of the tomb is a hollow column with a diameter of about 3 meters. At the top it expands and goes into the walls. The column is an important load-bearing structure that supports the entire vault. Inside it there used to be a staircase along which the priests climbed up to perform pagan rituals. The bodies of the dead were also raised up and then burned. The ashes were collected in an urn, which was placed in a special niche in the wall and walled up.

The stonework of the Thracian tomb, its perfect forms and lines are still the object of study by specialists from all over the world.

This Orthodox monastery is the only one operating on the Bulgarian coast. The monastery is small and cozy, there are few monks here, and the abbot speaks excellent Russian and is happy to conduct excursions himself when he has time. Pilgrims say that this place is old and blessed, prayed for.

The date of foundation of the monastery is not known exactly. It is believed to have been built at the beginning of the 19th century. The emergence of the monastery is associated with a beautiful legend about how the then local ruler, a Turkish bey named Selim, was cured of a serious illness by drinking water from the spring. Where there was a source, Selim, who joyfully converted to Christianity, ordered a chapel to be built and a monastery to be founded. Over time, Selim himself became the first abbot of the monastery.

The territory of the monastery pleasantly surprises with its comfort and amenities. There are flower beds here, tomatoes grow in the vegetable garden, and in the garden you can see peaches, persimmons and olives. It's definitely worth visiting the tiny, but very interesting museum, located to the left of the entrance to the territory.

In the list of seaside towns in Bulgaria, the resort of Pomorie stands apart. Firstly, because it is a salt production center. Secondly, because medicinal mud is taken from the bottom of Lake Pomorie.

Thirdly - and this is perhaps the main argument - a huge water park has opened in Pomorie, which has no equal in all of Bulgaria.

Despite all this, Pomorie remained quiet town, which means a good place for family vacation. Sunny summer, warm sea, sandy beaches, inexpensive hotels (and expensive ones too) - he has everything.

Is a holiday with children in Pomorie suitable for you? We invite you to find out more about this resort.

Pomorie on the map of Bulgaria

City of Pomorie - summer resort in Bulgaria, on the Black Sea coast. Located in the southern part of the coast, on the territory of the Burgas region (administrative center - Burgas).

The distance from Pomorie to Burgas is 18 km, to Sozopol - 51 km, to Primorsko - 68 km, to Nessebar - 26 km, to Sunny Beach - 27 km.

In the 5th century BC, the Greeks from Apollonia (present-day Sozopol) founded the colony of Anchialos on the peninsula where Pomorie is located. It was very important to gain a foothold in this place: the extraction of sea salt was organized here, and salt was very valuable.

The salt extracted from the Ankhial ponds was transported throughout the Balkan Peninsula, and even today the situation has hardly changed, except that Pomorie salt is now bought by tourists and transported to all countries of the world.

Vacation with children

A trip to Bulgaria usually begins with a trip to sites with tourist reviews. The choice of where to relax with a child does not lie on the plane of “good or bad”: some are looking for a busy resort with amusement parks, others are looking for an extensive excursion program, someone - a respectable beach complex far from cities.

Pomorie is chosen by those who most value a quiet and inexpensive holiday.

The calm atmosphere in Pomorie is due to the fact that it small town with a population of 14 thousand people and that this is not the center of resort life. IN high season the number of residents in Pomorie is, of course, increasing, but there are incomparably fewer vacationers here than in Burgas, Nessebar or Sunny Beach.

This a good place for families with infant: no noise will prevent the little one from sleeping.

But the situation with the cost of vacation has changed a little. Previously, people came to Pomorie with children in search of inexpensive housing, and the resort was mainly three star hotels and simple apartments.

Now the city has acquired several respectable complexes, where there is everything for families with children and even offers an all-inclusive system. The number of spacious, well-equipped apartments has also increased.

Holidays in Pomorie could be called boring: there are only two museums and one archaeological site. What saves the situation is that There are plenty of attractions around the resort, and to go on an excursion you don’t even have to rent a car - you can use public transport.

The main drawback of the resort is that there is almost no entertainment or playgrounds for children in Pomorie. Therefore, in the luggage of preschoolers it is worth putting toys for the beach, drawing supplies and everything that will help keep the child occupied.

When is the best time to go?

The holiday season in Pomorie is dependent on the weather forecast and charters flying to Burgas. Most people come to the resort in the summer and early autumn: this is the time when you can relax on the beach for your own pleasure.

The opening time of the season in Pomorie can be judged by the operating schedule of water parks. The new Sunset water park invites guests from the end of May and runs until mid-September.

Water parks in nearby Nessebar and Sunny Beach follow the same schedule. It only needs to be said that the water in the pools is not heated and at the beginning of the season it can be as cold as in the sea.

When is the best time to go to Pomorie? In the second half of summer the sea warms up well, but the weather can be too hot. But the beginning of September is the Velvet season In his best. If you are looking for an opportunity to relax on the beach without having to fight for a place in the sun, choose a warm and sunny early autumn for your trip.

Weather and climate

The air temperature graph in Pomorie is as flat as those located near the resort sand dunes. Winter at the resort is warm, summer is hot, the weather in spring and autumn is similar to summer, you can swim in the sea until October - in general, the climate of Pomorie is exactly what the climate of a seaside resort should be.

By mid-May, the air in Pomorie warms up to +20-24° C, but the cold sea and frequent rains can interfere with a good rest with your child. In June, rain is also not uncommon, but the air temperature rises to +25-28° C, and the water in the sea gradually warms up.

July and August are the hottest months in the resort. During the day, the thermometers rise to +30° C, and by night they drop to +20° C. At the same time, the heat and stuffiness are not felt, since the wind blows on the peninsula from all sides. There is almost no rain in the second half of summer.

The main reason to plan a vacation to Pomorie for July-August is the truly warm sea, where even kids can splash around for a long time.

On best vacation You can count on visiting Pomorie with children in September when the summer heat goes away. The air temperature drops to +25° C, almost equalizing the sea temperature. This good time for a trip with a baby to Pomorie: acclimatization will most likely go unnoticed.

The weather in the second half of September is unpredictable. But usually by the end of the month the air cools down to +20° C, and it rains more and more often. At the beginning of October, the resort is empty - until next spring there is nothing to do in the small town.

Sea water temperature

No matter how hot the spring may be in Pomorie, the swimming season opens no earlier than mid-June. This is due to the cold water that currents bring from the bays Odessa region. So in May, when the sea temperature barely reaches +18-19° C, almost no one swims in Pomorie.

With the arrival of summer, the water gradually warms up. Even if June is not very nice, the water in the sea warms up to +23° C. In July-August, the water temperature in Pomorie rises to +24-26° C.

The sea remains just as warm in the first two to three weeks of autumn. Then the water gradually cools down, and already at the beginning of October the water temperature drops to +20° C.

Nutrition

The all-inclusive system is not widespread in Bulgaria, but it is still found in small isolated resorts. To Pomorie all inclusive Several hotels in the new city offer, but more often hotel restaurants operate on an à la carte basis.

The choice of restaurants, pizzerias, and cafes in Pomorie is good. As elsewhere, you should focus on establishments where locals dine. WITH haute cuisine It’s a little weak here, but you can taste real Bulgarian cuisine.

Intercity transport does not always reach Pomorie. Most buses traveling from Burgas to Sunny Beach stop on the very outskirts of the city, near the Sunset water park.

From hotels in the new city you can walk to the stop in 5-10 minutes, but from the center you will have to walk for at least an hour. Therefore, to move around Pomorie and travel to the lake, they usually use a taxi or rent a car upon arrival in Burgas.

Some buses do call into the city center, and this affects the fare. So, a ticket from Pomorie to Burgas costs 3.50 leva if you sit in the center, and 3 leva if you come from the new city.

Unfortunately, there is no discount on tickets for children.. The schedule is available at stops and on carriers’ websites, but buses do not always strictly adhere to it.
