Old Town area

I advise you to visit this part of the city: cobbled streets, ancient buildings built back in the 14th century, go to the chapel de Sant Quirze i Santa Julita and pay attention to the beautiful altar in the Gothic style.

Most of the hotels are located in the business center and tourist quarter; here I recommend taking walks and enjoying delicious food in establishments located on the oldest streets of the old city. More about them below.

I prefer the business center of the city. Firstly, the proximity to the railway is a plus for me. Living close to the station, you don’t have to bother with taxis and public transport and take the train at five in the morning and go, for example, to Barcelona. How to get there: You can get to the city yourself by bus and train. From Calella the only bus that goes there is number 603, leaving at 10:00 from the bus station. Not everyone will be happy with this option. Therefore, I will offer another combined option: take the train to Blanes, and then at the bus station change to bus No. 601 or No. 605. The bus ride takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes. The ticket costs around 9 EUR.

And the third way - my favorite - is by train. I should immediately note that there are no direct trains to Girona, so you should go with a transfer. From Calella, from the train station, I went to the Macanet / Massanes station, then by any train going to Girona. Travel time with transfers is about one and a half hours. How to get there: You can get there by train to Blanes; trains run every half hour. The entire journey will take no more than an hour. Next, directly from the train station, take a bus marked Tossa de Mar. All buses are connected to electric trains, so it is very convenient to get out of the car and not rush anywhere, but calmly board the bus waiting for you.

In Spain, the coastline has ideally developed railway connections, so I will still give preference to trains. At the bus station in Tossa there is an information point where I took the card. From there it's a 10-minute walk to the city center.

If Calella is already covered far and wide, I recommend going to neighboring Blanes. The easiest way to get to the city is by train from Calella train station. Please note that railroad station Blanes is located on a mountain, the bus station is 2 kilometers away, so to get to the city center or to the coast, you need to take bus number 4. A train ticket will cost about 6 euros, but a bus ticket is about 1.9 euros. Having reached the square, you need to take a bus that runs between the square and the botanical garden. Figueres (92 km)

I advise lovers of antiquity and history to visit the city.

The main attraction of Figueres is the Dali Theater-Museum, famous museum Catalonia.

How to get there: You can take the train from Calella to the Macanet-Massanes station, then transfer to another train towards Figueres. The journey with a transfer will take about 2 hours. The train arrives at the Figueres station. The cost of the trip Calella - Figueres consists of:

But at the same time, its compact territory easily accommodates hotels, supermarkets, souvenir shops, restaurants, nightclubs and even several medical centers - in a word, a full range of modern establishments that make tourists’ holidays comfortable and varied.

Cost of a holiday in Calella. July 2019.

The tour was purchased for 4 people: three adults and a child 11 years old. The cost is 1,721 euros with breakfast and dinner for 7 nights, but accommodation is based on the “fortune” system, that is, depending on your luck: it should be a 3-star hotel, but they didn’t tell us the name. I was lucky to get to the "Olympic" - the rooms are modest, the food is excellent, the beach is 10 minutes away. We took off from Vilnius.

The hotel guide offered many excursions: to Tossa de Mar on a yacht (2 hours one way) + 4 hours - free time for sightseeing - 34 euros per person, but we refused. We went on our own by train to Barcelona - 40 euros each way. There we bought tickets for the T10 metro - 10 trips for 10 euros. We went to the Citadel Park, looked at the Sagrada Familia from the outside, and walked around gothic quarter and the free part of Park Güell (a gorgeous park), saw Casa Batlló - all for free.

We also took the train to Blanes (for 20 euros in both directions), from there we went on foot to the castle of Sant Joan (free), as it turned out it was already Lloret de Mar, from there we went down to the Botanical Park - Marimurtra - 7 euros for person + 1 euro card (29 euros for everyone). It is very far to walk from Blanes station to these attractions. There are no discounts for children. But riding the train is a special pleasure, because it goes along the sea - very beautiful views open up.

In Calella itself we went to the lighthouse - for free, but, as it turned out, we were lucky to get there, it was decorated for a wedding, but in general it is always closed.

Food and products

In cafes, a portion of paella costs 6-10 euros, depending on the cafe itself. We bought pizza for 2 euros per serving (1/8 of a pizza). We didn’t go to the cafe anymore, because next to the hotel there was a Mercadona supermarket, where super prices: buns for 0.1 euros, water 8 liters - 1.15 euros, wine - 2-4 euros, canned mussels, oysters - 3 euros, squid - 2 euros, Pringles chips - 1.82 euros, Fanta with juice content - 1 for 1.5 liters. In other stores, prices for alcohol and drinks were 2 times higher.

The weather at that time was wonderful, the sun was hot throughout the day, but in the morning and evening it was comfortable and cool. We lived a five-minute walk from the beach in a charming apartment hotel, where we decided to have breakfast and dinner. This was convenient, since during the day we were going to visit the surrounding area, go to Barcelona, ​​and wander around local restaurants.

The beach in Calella is huge and sandy. You can swim and sunbathe along the entire strip. Another advantage of the town was the railway station right in the city center. From here you could get anywhere quickly and without problems.

Calella is full of restaurants, bars, shops, benches. You can spend the whole day completely calmly if you suddenly need to do some shopping. In the evening there was some kind of show and celebration in the town. We were given the entertainment schedule right outside the station in a small booth “ Tourist office" We managed to watch the habanera dance festival and listen to live music on the beach and visit an exhibition of national lace.

So, dear little town, we quite liked it, as it corresponded to the goals that we were pursuing at that time.

Family holiday

Although we weren’t on vacation as a family, we had a group of six women with different needs. Some wanted to go swimming, some wanted to go to a dance show, and some wanted to go shopping. There was everything to do here. As for children, all hotels have animation in the evening, including ours. There is a water park nearby, but we didn't go there. The beach is suitable for everyone, it is thoroughly cleaned in the morning, so it is clean and pleasant.

What to take with you on vacation?

At this time of year, rain and wind sometimes occur. So, I definitely advise you to take a blouse or windbreaker. And also, for convenience, it’s not bad to have a second swimsuit. Everything does not dry so quickly in a humid climate, and sometimes you want to swim in the pool in the evening.

Where is the best place to stay?

In Calella everything is quite close. We chose Aparthotel Miami Park. The most important thing was that these were not hotel rooms, but apartments, which was always convenient for us. We stayed in an apartment with two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen and a terrace. However, they didn’t use the kitchen - only the kettles. We had breakfast and dinner at the hotel. We had lunch somewhere on an excursion or in the city. The hotel has Russian-speaking staff, which will be convenient for those who do not speak foreign languages. There is a swimming pool, a comfortable lounge, good internet.

What to do at the resort?

We traveled from Calella twice to Barcelona, ​​once to Girona. In the town itself, you can simply wander the streets, stroll along the embankment, and admire the lighthouse. An excursion train runs along the sea, costs 4 euros, the whole journey is about an hour.

It's definitely worth a trip to Barcelona if you haven't been there yet. We had already been there, but still, we decided to walk through Park Guell again and get to the Sagrada. Our obligatory program is a trip to the Boqueria - the oldest market in Barcelona. A walk along the Rambla is an integral part of a trip to Barcelona.

The beaches in Calella are clean, spacious and sandy. Equipped with showers and wooden flooring. Sun loungers and umbrellas are available for a fee.

What can you buy?

The town is full of shops. We enjoyed visiting them. Since it was already the end of the trip, we bought souvenirs, shoes, swimsuits, bags, dresses, T-shirts.
