Bus excursions around Vienna. Vienna: Sightseeing hop-on hop-off bus and free Wi-Fi. Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tours in Vienna

We confidently decided to drive along all the routes, listen to everything that would be poured into our ears, and then just choose the places we liked, and return to them and examine them in more detail. How naive we were! 🙂

Here short description all Sightseeing yellow bus routes:

1) Red:
It goes along the Vienna ring – Ringstrasse. It is often called the most beautiful boulevard in the world. And there is no point in arguing with this: so many magnificent buildings, palaces and parks are concentrated on the Vienna Ring that there would be enough for a couple of more cities. Since 1865, when the “ring” street was officially opened, luxurious buildings have sprung up on it, which to this day create the special appearance of the Vienna Ring.

The route is a must-see! It takes about an hour, and the frequency of buses is 7-15 minutes, which allows you to easily get off the bus at any place you like and return to the route very quickly and, guaranteed, without loss of tourist inspiration!

2) Yellow:
It forms the castle-architectural ensemble of the city.
Goes through most beautiful castles Vienna and the monumental buildings of the city, as well as through the central old market of Vienna, which will be interesting at least for lovers of shawarma, which they say is prepared excellently there.) Unfortunately, we traveled this route on Sunday, and on Sunday Vienna turns into a city of idlers (in our opinion) or people enjoying life (as the residents of Vienna think)).
The first castle on the route is Schönbrunn Palace (German: Schloß Schönbrunn) - the Viennese residence of the Austrian emperors, one of the most important architectural structures Austrian Baroque.

In addition to the palace itself with its luxurious architecture and a unique exhibition, the Palm House, the Glorietta Pavilion, a wonderful park with a labyrinth, and the oldest zoo are interesting in Schönbrunn.

A local cafe hosts strudel shows several times a day, during which they reveal the secrets of making this dessert and definitely give it a try!

This attraction deserves close attention. Entrance to the castle gardens is free, you can walk through these gardens for hours - it’s a quick step, and if you throw away all your thoughts and just enjoy the beauty of the park, you won’t mind spending the whole day on it! The zoo on the castle grounds is interesting at least because there are paaaaands there :)

But calculate the time so that you get there and don’t rush, it (the zoo) is open until 17-30, and it’s advisable for you to go a couple of hours before closing! Spend some money on an excursion to the castle, you will learn many interesting moments from the life of the Austrian nobility, the castle and the empire itself, I love such historical routes, and you think...

The next stop on the route is Central station (Hauptbahnhof). Modern transport node and the adjacent BahnhofCity complex with shops, information kiosks, ticket machines and passenger ticket offices.

Then the route introduces us to the Vienna Military History Museum. This museum claims to be the oldest and greatest military history museum in the world. The museum, located in the center of the Arsenal, was supposed to store information about the victories of Austria and its leaders.

After a few turns, a view of the most beautiful palace complex Gazebo. Currently, the Austrian Gallery is located inside.

I’m telling you how we traveled for 4 days in Vienna along all the routes of a double-decker sightseeing bus, and also arranged river walk along the Danube. We saw all of Vienna, a little bit of the Vienna Woods. I’m sharing a way to stretch a 3-day ticket into 4 days!

Yellow Vienna Sightseeing sightseeing bus. We started the trip from stop 8 Augarden of the red line, we. We didn't have tickets in hand. We waited for the bus. We bought 2 tickets for 72 hours from the conductor, which included unlimited travel on all routes, a walking tour in English and 1 boat trip. We paid €43 for this pleasure. Without the boat, tickets would cost €29 for 48 hours.

How did we stretch the tickets over 4 days?

As you can see, tickets are not cheap at all. Back at home I was racking my brains about what to buy: , or just tickets for double-decker. I chose the latter + boat trip.

We extended the 72-hour ticket over 4 days. The first trip was at 18:00, which means the last one should be no later than 18:00 on the fourth day!

1 day – red route Red Line

This is the main route that connects all the others. As usual, we completed the first lap.

We climbed to the 2nd floor. In the evening it was already empty. Let's go with the breeze to the center of Vienna. These days we did not use ordinary city transport at all.

Headphones are provided upon entry. You connect them to the back of the front seat, select the desired language using the numbers, and that’s it – you just enjoy your trip around Vienna from the second floor.

These buses are called “Hop on” Hop Off" - this means that you can get on and off at any stop. We saw something interesting, walked around, then caught the next bus. Central routes They go very often, about once every 15 minutes.

And this is a famous one, where they hold classical concerts with dinner.

Standard for Vienna, but unusual for us - girls in dresses on bicycles (and sometimes even in heels!). Cyclists are the main participants traffic in the city. They make disdainful noises or ringing noises when pedestrians walk along their paths.

We pass a stall with popular Viennese fast food - sausages, mustard and buns. When you have no money and want to eat, this is just the thing!

The Vienna State Opera is the keeper of the traditions of classical art, the symbol of musical Vienna, the largest Opera theatre Austria. The stop here is a little longer than usual. From here it is easy to walk to or to.

OU! Take it easy! We were overtaken by another symbol of Vienna - the famous old red tram.

Stands on Maria Theresa Square. Together with another building identical to it - I confuse them all the time.

We are crossing the Danube Canal for the second time, which means that the circle is coming to an end. Enough for today. We met with Vienna.

Day 2 – boat trip

Our ticket included only 1 trip on the boat, and there were several routes. We decided to ride to the maximum – on route A+B. I don’t quite understand whether it’s possible to get off and then get on the next flight.

First flight at 10:30. We decided to take a walk. The journey from the pier took about 30 minutes. The first step is to exchange the receipt for a full ticket at the ticket office on the 2nd floor, otherwise you will not be allowed on the flight.

There were quite a lot of people. We took a seat on deck 2 on a bench in the shade.

Our cheerful boat cuts through the waves of the Danube Canal.

Soon we will have to cross the floodgates. I remembered my childhood trips with my grandfather along the Kama and Volga. We have many gateways.

On the shore I saw a fast black boat. If you like extreme sports, then ride it along the Danube.

Meanwhile, we are passing the Danube City. The weather is great today!

The Viennese call it the Jubilee Church or - it was founded in the year of the 50th anniversary of the ascension of Franz Joseph to the throne, the temple is located on Mexikoplatz Square. My favorite church in Vienna.

Nice panorama of the Danube city. Visible on the left. We'll go there a little later.

The building with golden spherical domes, a tall chimney tower and colorful walls houses. As you can see, the style of the architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser can be seen here. He did not immediately agree to work on this project. As an avid advocate of the environment, Hundertwasser believed that garbage should not be burned, but rather recycled as much as possible and benefited from it. Vienna mayor Helmut Zilck had to assure that the heat from burning garbage would be used to heat enterprises and housing. The architect was also promised the strictest compliance with environmental safety measures at the new enterprise.

A very strange European habit is not to swim in rivers. The Viennese bring barges, fill them with chlorinated water and swim. But the green water in the Danube will be more pleasant and definitely less harmful. I don't understand them.

After a 4-hour cruise we headed to the center on a red line bus.

We walked around Schönbrunn Park for so long that we completely forgot about the bus schedule. The last bus leaves at 18:55.

Remember I told you how it’s possible? I ordered a taxi through the Uber app. I had it there free trip for €10 promo code q46rh81kue.

Mercedes Vita minibus arrived :-)

Day 3. Mount Kahlenberg and Klosterneuburg Monastery

Today we ride on the Green Line. Pay attention to the schedule. Buses run once an hour. And between the 1st and 2nd flight there is a 2 hour break. 10 minutes to stop. This is enough to run and take a photo. We decided to take a walk and got stuck for 2 hours. This time is too much! There's not much to do here.

On the outskirts of the Vienna district of Döbling there are two mountains - two neighboring peaks of almost the same height: Leopoldsberg and Kahlenberg. We're on the second one now.

The Josefskirche Church in the memory of the Viennese is associated with the significant event of 1683. The Polish governor Jan Sobieski liberated Vienna, which was languishing under the siege of a 200,000-strong Turkish army. Sobieski launched his attack from Mount Kahlenberg, having previously celebrated mass in the mountain temple. At the entrance portal of the church there is a board confirming historical fact. We met many Poles in the church.

484 meters – height of Kahlenberg; The TV tower rises 165 m above the mountain.

The place is touristic, so the number of people here is appropriate.

Wait another hour and a half for the next bus. We had a romantic snack in a cafe with a gorgeous panorama of Vienna.

Having nothing else to do, we went to the very top of Mount Kahlenberg - there is a TV tower and the Stefaniewarte tower. From this place nothing can be seen, no panorama. Let's move on...

Klosterneuburg is a suburb of Vienna, located at the very Vienna Woods and at the foot of the Leopoldsberg mountain. We only had an hour to explore the monastery. The place is very beautiful and well maintained. And what peace and tranquility there is here. A tour of the monastery is paid, but you can walk around and through some buildings for free. 1 hour is very little!

Satisfied that we somehow managed to catch the bus, we headed to the center of Vienna. On the way, you can stop by the heuriger in Grinzing and drink some wine.

Public transport in Vienna (Wiener Linien) is represented by electric trains (S-Bahn), subway lines (U-Bahn), trams (Strassenbahn) and buses (Autobus). All types of transport run strictly according to schedule. The names of each station in any mode of transport are announced loudly and clearly, and all other modes of transport to which the passenger can transfer at stops are also listed.

The doors of buses and trams in Vienna do not open automatically. To enter or exit the vehicle, you need to press the large button next to the door. In trains and the subway, the doors also open in a certain way: when the cars stop at the station and the sound of steam being released is heard, you need to sharply pull the door handle to the side. Such doors close automatically. Next, we will try to understand the public transport system in Vienna.

Tickets and travel cards

Vienna's transport network is a very simple and accessible system. Single tickets are valid for all types of public transport. Absolutely any ticket, with the exception of annual and discounted tickets, can be purchased from special machines in the metro, at the Wiener Linien ticket office or at official website, via the Wiener Linien mobile app, available for Andriod And iOS, in Tabak Trafik tobacco shops, directly from the driver (but it’s more expensive).

Don’t be afraid to purchase tickets through machines; they will give you change if necessary. Experienced travelers do not recommend buying tickets directly on the transport, as in some cases this may result in problems with the ticket inspector. You should definitely take care of purchasing a ticket before boarding the transport, especially since it is not at all difficult.

It is worth considering that the territory of the city is divided into. Provided that you are traveling within the same zone, you need to purchase 1 ticket for 1 trip. So, we take a bicycle, prepare a map in advance with rental points and return the bike 5 minutes before the end of each hour. We rest for 10-15 minutes in a nearby cafe. We rent a bike again.

The fine system in Vienna is quite serious and can take a significant toll on your wallet. For example, according to official data government portal, management vehicle being drunk is punishable by a fine of 800 to 5900 euros depending on the severity of the condition.

Applications for planning routes and purchasing tickets

Public transport in Vienna is thought out very carefully, and, as we wrote above, its schedule is fully integrated into the Google maps service. Therefore, if you want to find out how to get from one part of the city to another, then with only Google maps, you can get directions. But there are also more convenient services that we will introduce you to.

This application is available for Android and iOS. The application allows you to plot a route from one point in Vienna to another using any available means of public transport. Through the application you can also buy tickets and passes, or store passes purchased through the website. When building a route, the application takes into account the schedule of individual routes, so that it accurately indicates the time of departure of transport and the time of its arrival at the specified point. This allows you to very accurately plan the time you need to spend on the road. If you do not need to leave right now, you can indicate the expected departure time, then the route will be laid out taking this time into account.

But in order to show how convenient it is to use this application, we will do this with one specific example. Let's take a route from the hotel to the main attraction of the city - St. Stephen's Cathedral. For example, let's take one hotel from our list of hotels in Vienna with the best combination of price and quality. Let it be the Best Western Plus Amedia Wien hotel. When opening the application, we will be asked to enter the address of the point of departure and point of arrival. Usually the starting point is determined by GPS itself, taking into account your current location. But even if your address could not be determined automatically, you can enter it manually. Sometimes you can enter not an address, but simply the name of a hotel or popular attraction. In our case, the Best Western Plus Amedia Wien hotel is located at Landstraßer Hauptstraße 155, we enter this address as the address of the departure point. And we want to go to the very center to St. Stephen's Cathedral. In the address of the arrival point, you can enter both the name of the attraction “Stephansdom” and its address Stephansplatz 3. After this, the application will give you several route options. In some options, you will have to walk a little more, but make fewer transfers, while in others, using a transfer from one transport to another, you can reduce the length walking route. In our case, one option was proposed for the route by metro, line U3, the second option by bus No. 74A, and the third option - first we take one stop on tram No. 18, and then transfer to the U3 metro. The option with a transfer involves walking the least amount of time, so we choose it. When choosing the appropriate option, we will see its full decoding: at which stop to get on, at which to get off, where to change trains, and when to get off the metro.

To make it clear how it all looks in the application, we have attached three screenshots. The first shows the search process and suggested routes, the second shows what the selected route looks like on the map, and the third shows a decoding of the selected route.

So, we have become familiar with the main functionality of the WienMobil application. But in addition to the search and route functions, the application also allows you to select and purchase tickets and passes online. Here you should immediately pay attention to the fact that the section for selecting and purchasing travel cards in the WienMobil application completely repeats the functionality of another application - Wiener Linien. Those. If you only need to buy a ticket and do not need to build routes, then the Wiener Linien application will be enough for you. But if you want to be able to both buy tickets and build routes, then you need to download the WienMobil app.

By the way, if you buy tickets in one application using your account, and then log into your account in another application, your tickets will become available there too.

Wiener Linien app

This application is also available for popular mobile platforms. And its function is the selection, purchase, and storage of travel tickets. After installing the application, you will need to register in order to be able to save the purchased travel tickets. If you have already registered, then by clicking on the “Buy tickets” button you will be taken to the section for selecting a ticket or travel pass. In the application, single tickets, passes for a day, a day, two and three days, a week and a month are available for purchase, tourist cards “The Vienna Card” (you can read about this card in this article) and “Easy CityPass Vienna” (about it ), as well as transfer to/from the airport, or round-trip transfer.

When purchasing a one-time ticket, you will need to indicate the departure station, and this ticket will be automatically registered in the system (after all, it cannot be validated, as is done with paper tickets). And when purchasing a travel card or tourist card, you will need to indicate the date and time when the card or travel card will be valid, and the travel card will automatically start working from the specified time, and you will also not need to compost it. For any ticket or travel pass, you can additionally buy a transfer from/to the airport.
After selecting the ticket or travel card that suits you, you will be taken to the payment page using bank card. If the payment is successful, the purchased tickets will immediately appear in your Wiener Linien app, and if you use the WienMobil program with the same account, the tickets will appear there too.

The screenshots below show the process of selecting the type of travel pass, and what the already paid tickets look like. The first image shows a list of available passes, the second shows paid and active passes, the third shows inactive passes whose validity has not yet begun or has already expired.

If a controller comes up to you on public transport and asks you to show a ticket, all you have to do is point at the desired pass in the app and show the QR code that opens. Remember that travel and tourist cards in Vienna are personalized; each travel card, even if it is electronic, has your first and last name encrypted, so the controller can check your documents to make sure that you are using a travel card that belongs to you.

But here it is important to remember that using one application on your phone, you can buy travel cards both for yourself and for the people who are traveling with you, only when buying a travel card for each person, you must indicate the first and last name of its future owner.

Wiener Linien website

You can also build routes and buy tickets on the Vienna Lines website at www.wienerlinien.at. Just as soon as you enter the site, do not forget to immediately switch to English language, because you are unlikely to understand anything in German. In principle, the formation of a route on the website occurs in the same way as in the WienMobil application. In the search form on the main page you indicate the departure and arrival addresses, select the date and time of the trip, and after clicking on the “Plan my journey” button

After this, you will see a map with route options, and the ability to view a detailed transcript for each route option. You can see how it looks on the website in the screenshot below.

Tourist transport Vienna

The main difference between tourist transport and public transport is that tourist transport runs only to the sights of the city.

In Vienna, tourist transport is represented by two large bus lines: Hop-on Hop-off BigBus Vienna and Hop-on Hop-off Vienna Sightseeing. The next key difference between tourist transport and public transport is the presence of an audio guide in tourist transport. There is also free Wi-Fi on the buses.

It is worth noting that BigBus Vienna buses operate on three routes: Red, Blue and Green. But standard tickets only include the first two: Red and Blue. Bike rentals Citybike Wien

Bicycles are very popular not only among local residents, but also among tourists. That's why Vienna has a large bike rental network. The stations are scattered throughout the city, and while walking around Vienna, you are sure to come across them. It's very easy to use; you can pick up your bike at one station and leave it at another. The stations provide parking for bicycles, to which the bicycle is attached with a magnetic lock. There is a payment machine next to each station. You can also pay through a special application, which can be downloaded from the website of the bicycle rental network.

An important note: if you take a bicycle and leave it not at the station, but somewhere in the city, and it is discovered by inspectors of the rental company, then you will be charged a fine of 20 euros for not returning the bicycle to where it should be .

We won’t go into much detail about how to use bike rental, because it’s actually quite simple. All you need to do is install the app, pay, pick up the bike at any nearest station (a map with stations is in the app), and then return it to any station.
