It is difficult to immediately understand the variety of excursions offered, new names, locations and prices, even though the same attractions are often called by different names, to determine where it is better to visit with an excursion and where on your own. Well, you don’t want to overpay for a trip on an air-conditioned bus.

Having lived in Nha Trang for more than two months and examined most interesting places, we came to the conclusion that almost all the attractions at the resort can be explored on your own.

Behind starting point we will host the Lotus Tower on the waterfront.

For convenience, we have compiled the list of attractions in Nha Trang into a table. The pedestrian zone in the table is 3 km and is indicated in green.

Attractions in the yellow zone can be reached by city or free bus.

The attractions of the red zone can be reached by bike, taxi or by purchasing a tour.

Buses to the south go along the third line of the European Quarter, to the north - along the second.

We regretted that we did not go to Dalat on our own. About the trip to the city of eternal spring - Dalat, in a separate article. Be sure to visit there, preferably for 2-3 days.

The owner of the bike we rented warned us that it is not advisable to go on long trips (Dalat 150 km, Mui Ne 250 km), since when meeting with the police, a moped with someone else’s license plates will definitely be stopped and they may be given a fine, and he will have to go pick him up. Therefore, we made long trips on an exotic slip bass, and we already rented new “wheels” on the spot.

We met with representatives of the traffic police only in the suburb of Mui Ne on the way to the white dunes; they sat luxuriously in the shade behind sharp turn. They brought two desks with them and put them on the side of the road and sat at them filling out documents. There just weren't enough table lamps. Handsome guys! Nearby is the obligatory tow truck.

Our group of 3 bikes heading into the desert was checked for documents. For not having a license, two drivers faced a large fine of 800,000 - 1,500,000 dong ($35-66). We were saved 200,000 ($9) from each violator. We were so happy that we forgot to photograph the law enforcement officers on the roads of Vietnam for history.

To create an excursion route, copy the coordinates of the object of interest into Google maps and build a route. Along the way, you visit nearby attractions. Spend 20 minutes collecting information and your day will be rich and unforgettable.

Le Van Tam Park is located near the museum military history, a quarter of an hour's drive from the center of Ho Chi Minh City. This well-groomed and clean park has an interesting history of creation and name.

There was an old French cemetery here, where, however, high-ranking figures of South Vietnam were buried, including President Ngo Dinh Diem, overthrown in 1963. Converting a cemetery into a park was not an easy task. Members of Vietnamese families received notices to rebury the deceased within two months. Unclaimed remains were cremated. The graves of the French military were returned to France.

So in 1983, a park appeared here, which was named after the young patriot Le Van Tam. His feat during the First Indochina War shocked the entire city and remained in the history of the Resistance. A little boy selling peanuts in the port of Saigon doused himself with gasoline, set himself on fire, and ran into the port's fuel and ammunition warehouse. The security at the entrance was confused at the sight of the child engulfed in fire, and he managed to get inside. The explosion was so powerful that many thought it was an earthquake.

After the unification of the country, schools, streets and cinemas were named after the torch boy. It is absolutely correct that the park on the site of the French cemetery was also named after the legendary fighter against the French invaders. There is a monument to him in the park.

Today Le Van Tam Park serves as a place for mass sports activities. In the mornings the place is full of townspeople. They go jogging, do badminton, aerobics, kung fu, tai chi, and just walking. During the day, elderly people and mothers with children come here to take a walk in the fresh air in a green oasis in the middle of the city. And in the evening, rock and roll from the sixties and seventies plays here. People of all ages come to listen and dance.

Approximate cost of excursions for the winter season 2017/18

Individual excursions Price

Let's talk about the areas of Nha Trang, in which area of Nha Trang it is better to choose a hotel for a holiday, and in which one to stay long term. The right area is one of the keys have a good holiday and a comfortable life! 🙂

Districts of Nha Trang

Officially, Nha Trang is divided into 28 districts, I will not describe each of them, I will schematically mark on the map and describe only those areas that will be of interest to tourists, winterers and long-term residents in terms of renting housing: a hotel, apartment or house.

There are four main areas in Nha Trang:

  • Southern region - number 1 on the schematic map
  • North of Nha Trang – number 2 on the map
  • Central region - number 3
  • Vinh Diem Trung or simply the area near the Big C supermarket - number 4

Below in the article I will talk about each of them :)

Districts of Nha Trang on the schematic map

The districts of Nha Trang are marked on the schematic map

Southern region

Southern region of Nha Trang considered an area in the south of the city near the cable car to Vimperl and the guarded cottage community of An Vien. The advantage of this area is peace and tranquility :) And the disadvantage is the almost complete lack of infrastructure. There is a small store and a couple of cafes, but for everything else you will have to go to the city center. Therefore, there is nothing to do in the south of Nha Trang without a bike. During the day you can get to the center or north by bus No. 4, and in the evening you will have to take a taxi.

IN cottage village An Vien is home to villas and houses of wealthy Vietnamese. The territory is closed, well-groomed, and is constantly guarded. In An Vien you can rent a house from $500 per month or live on the mountain next to the villages in apartments - from $250 per month.

Villas in the cottage village of An Vien

On the territory of An Vien is located, which belongs to the hotel of the same name. This is a small beach, closed by a breakwater; a small puddle of salty water forms in the sea (for me this is a depressing sight 🙁). But when it is impossible to swim in the center of Nha Trang due to strong waves, Paragon Beach remains quite swimmable. Due to the constantly calm sea, this area of Nha Trang is often chosen by families with small children.

Paragon Beach - a shallow beach without waves, closed by a breakwater

Hotels and apartments in the south of Nha Trang (An Vien)

  • An Vien Villamar Apartments – excellent inexpensive apartments near Paragon Beach
  • Verano Hotel – a new quiet hotel in An Vien area
  • Praywish Hotel – inexpensive hotel with a swimming pool
  • Paragon Villa Hotel – hotel with a swimming pool and private beach
  • ViVa Villa An Vien Nha Trang – four bedroom villas

North of Nha Trang

Northern district of Nha Trang – the area behind Cape Hon Chong. This area is still not doing very well developed infrastructure, although there are small shops and cafes here and there are much more of them than in the south of Nha Trang. Most hotels are quite close to the beach, literally across the road. The beach in the north of Nha Trang is shallow and less prone to storms than the Nha Trang beach in the city center.

The best stretch of beach in the north of Nha Trang

The north of Nha Trang is often chosen by long-livers, especially families with children. Prices for long-term rentals are low here; you can rent not only apartments or apartments, but you also often come across offers to rent houses for a long period (from 6 months). Popular complexes among centenarians are the U Plaza Nha Trang and Muong Thanh apartments, where a spacious apartment with a kitchen can be rented for $400–800 per month.

Hotels in the north of the city and the U Plaza Nha Trang complex, popular among winter travelers

The best hotels in the northern region of Nha Trang

  • Thanh Binh 2 Hotel – inexpensive hotel just across the road from the best part of the northern beach
  • Seasing Boutique Hotel is a new four-star hotel with a rooftop pool, an excellent bar and a restaurant with delicious food. The best price-quality ratio for hotels in the north of Nha Trang
  • Tri Giao Hotel – a new inexpensive four-star hotel with a gorgeous sea view

More details about the northern region of Nha Trang here:

Area near the Big C supermarket

Vinh Diem Trung area often called the area near Big C, because. it is located near this supermarket. Vacationers have absolutely no reason to stay here, but long-term residents should consider this area for living for the following reasons:

  • Large selection of long-term housing
  • For $250-400 a month you can rent a new, well-equipped apartment, perhaps even with two bedrooms
  • An area for wealthy Vietnamese and, accordingly, a corresponding contingent lives here
  • The infrastructure is well developed, more and more cafes and restaurants are opening
  • The area is very quiet

The only disadvantage of the Vinh Diem Trung area is the distance from the sea, about 3.5 km, but when you live in the country for several years, you very rarely go to the sea :)

Districts of Nha Trang: central district

Central district of Nha Trang I will conditionally divide it into several sub-districts:

  • The area opposite Gorky Park (Central Park) – marked “1”
  • Military hospital area – “2”
  • European region of Nha Trang – “3”
  • Xom Moi Market Area – “4”
  • Business center – “5”

Schematically marked the areas in the center of Nha Trang

Gorky Park area

The area opposite the Gorky Park or Central Park restaurant is very popular among our tourists. Perhaps they are attracted by the name of the park? 🙂 Although it is still more likely that it is to hotels located in this area that our tour operators sell tours the most.

Across the road from the hotels is Central Park, where in addition to restaurants (one of them is called “Gorky Park”) there are children’s and adult pools, a walking path along the sea, a beach where you can rent sun loungers, free showers and toilets. And three restaurants with high my opinion) prices.

The only downside of the Gorky Park area is that this part of the beach is very crowded! There are too many of our compatriots and it seems that you are somewhere in Crimea or Anapa :)

There is not as much choice of shops and cafes in the Gorky Park area as in the European area of Nha Trang, but still much more than in the north and south of Nha Trang. Prices for everything in the Gorky Park area, in my opinion, are a little overpriced compared to the European area. For example, even in the A-Mart chain store, water here costs 20% more. But getting to the European quarter will not be difficult - the distance less than a kilometer! But you will have to get to the nearest market or supermarket only by transport.

I advise families with children to choose the Gorky Park area: even if there are strong waves in the sea, you can always swim in the pool.

Gorky Park area, walking path along the beach. On one side there is the sea, on the other there are swimming pools and restaurants
Well maintained path along the beach
Swimming pool in the park

There are many hotels in this area, prices are slightly higher than in the European quarter, but the quality of the hotels is also higher. Many hotels in Nha Trang in the Gorky Park area have rooftop pools and excellent sea views from their rooms. I recommend the best hotels in the area in terms of price-quality ratio:

I can’t say anything about long-term housing in the Gorky Park area; we weren’t looking for housing in this part of the city, and there aren’t really any streets or alleys there; the territory of the old airport begins almost immediately behind the first line.

Military hospital area

Quiet area very close to the European quarter, at night noise can only be heard from neighboring apartments, and not music from bars and restaurants. Opposite this area across the road there is our favorite area - the beach near, there is also a toilet and shower. For some reason, this part of the beach is always less crowded and you can even meet Europeans here!

We live in this area of Nha Trang. There are literally a couple of cafes here, which we managed to visit in the first days, but we didn’t really like the food anywhere. There is no A-Mart or the like here, but there are several small shops with everything you need. We go to the European Quarter to have dinner, drink coffee and buy fruit, fortunately it’s only a 3-minute walk :)

But our favorite Xom Moi market is almost 2 km away! Once we walked there for shrimp and realized that it’s not worth doing this anymore, it’s better to ride a bike :) Also, the path to all the supermarkets is not close, you can still walk to the Natrang center, and to all other large stores only by transport.

Our favorite part of the beach

Hotels in this area of Nha Trang

The situation with long-term housing in the area of a military hospital is strange: on the one hand, it was here that we found several more or less suitable options for us at a price of 300-400 dollars per month, and on the other hand, it was in this area that we most heard “Full” ", i.e. Most apartments and apartments were occupied or available only for one month, and not for the entire period we needed.

The European district of Nha Trang is the most touristic and lively area of the city. This is where you will find everything you need: cafes and restaurants with Vietnamese, Russian, Chinese, European, Italian, etc. and so on. food, bars, clothing stores, A-Mart and Perekrestok minimarkets, pharmacies, fruit stands, massage parlors– in general, everything, everything, everything that tourists (and not only!) need for life. From the European quarter you can quickly walk to the Xom Moi market, to shopping center Nha Trang Center and even to the Maximark supermarket.

The European region conventionally begins near Hotel Star City Nha Trang and ends near the Lotus Tower. For reference, the first, second and third lines of the European quarter are distinguished. When they explain how to get somewhere in a European region, that’s what they say: on the second line behind the intersection or on the third line around the corner :)

Across the road from the European district of Nha Trang there is a green square with benches, gazebos and exercise equipment. The Sailing Club Bar restaurant is located on the seashore. The beach has sun loungers and umbrellas (some of them belong to hotels in the European Quarter) that can be rented for 50,000 – 100,000 dong. The beach here is wide and quite clean, but the closer you get to the Lotus Tower, the more crowded and noisy it is. There are paid showers and toilets near the beach.

The entire tourist infrastructure is concentrated in the European region of Nha Trang. Due to high competition, prices for everything are low

Green embankment across the road
Nha Trang city beach in the European quarter

Nha Trang hotels in the European region

Most hotels in Nha Trang are concentrated in the European quarter. Many hotels in Nha Trang in the European region are built close to each other; in cheap hotels, the room may not have a window or may have a view of the adjacent wall. But here you can rent a room even for 8-10 dollars per night! There are also excellent 4-star hotels here, some of them at reasonable prices.
