How to get there? On foot

The route starts at the old bridge of the village of Dakhovskaya. If you are driving from Maykop to Guzeripl, you will not pass this bridge; it spans the Dakh River. Leaving the car near the old bridge, you need to go to the other side of it and enter the forest to the right of the bridge. Here you will see a marked path that leads up. She will lead to the Devil's Finger rock.

In the spring, at the time of flowering, wild garlic is visible along the path, and the aroma of garlic is heard in the air. Tourists who are lucky enough to visit here in the summer can enjoy the fruits of wild pears and apples, dogwood, and hazelnuts.

You can go back along the same path, or you can go down the mountain ridge to the village of Kamennomostsky, which will take less time. The one way journey will take approximately three hours.

All roads to Mountain Altai they go through the city of Biysk, so the description will be from this city. The route looks like this:

The distance from Biysk is approximately 114 km.

GPS coordinates: 51.894273, 85.826997

In Biysk, after the bridge over the Biya, we drive straight, without turning anywhere. Beyond Biysk the historical part of the Chuysky tract will begin. The road is excellent asphalt, and right after Biysk there is a 4-lane road. True, it won’t take long, after 20 km it will become an ordinary two-lane one, but still of excellent quality.

After the village of Maima, a new four-lane road with a barrier in the middle begins.

Unfortunately, after 10 km, in front of the village of Souzga, the four-lane highway will again turn into two lanes. We pass the village and immediately after it turn right onto the new Aisky bridge following the sign: Aya - 11 km, Nizhnekayancha - 9 km. We cross Katun and turn right again. After 3 km there is a fork, we take the roundabout to the left. To the right is the old hanging one - closed to access for repairs (rumor has it forever). We pass by the tourist center “Crown of Altai”. We reach the village of Katun.

You can even get to the top by all-terrain vehicle in good weather, if this is not the case, walk. From the village of Katun, focusing on the television tower, along a gravel and then a dirt road you can climb to the top of the slope, the end of which will be the desired “Devil's Finger” rock.

Where is Devil's Finger on the map?

It is located east of the village of Dakhovskaya; nearby you can find several caves, for example Pylnaya or Razlom-Skvoznaya.

Description and legends of the attraction

The famous Devil's Finger is located on the steep southwest of the Una-Koz massif, the same one that, together with Mount Azish-Tau, near the village of Khadzhokh, forms the notorious. We are talking about the so-called “remnant” - small area rock formed as a result of destruction or erosion of another, less stable object.

The shape of the rock resembles a pair of fingers, a pagan idol, or a goat's horn. Residents of the village of Dakhovskaya, which is located nearby, often call it “Bell Tower”, as it soars sharply into the air, separating from the main body of the ridge. The height above sea level is 1021 m, which is quite high for such an object.

The tradition of calling such formations “Devil’s” goes back to ancient times, when ancestors believed in the thunderer Perun and especially revered him. Legends say that such rocky outcroppings are frozen stone or fire arrows that God threw at the implacable enemy Veles, the patron of poetry, the second most important deity in the ancient Russian pantheon. People believed that these were real places of power and should be respected and feared.

Travelers love the cliff for the opportunity to take photos on its top or nearby. The Devil's Finger rock, overgrown with lichen, moss and greenery, offers incredible views of nearby peaks, distant villages and endless expanses - photographs from the hill are truly spectacular and original.

The Una-Koz ridge mainly consists of limestone rocks, so it is easily susceptible to external influences and deformation. It is riddled with grottoes and caves, which you can admire during a hike to the Devil’s Finger, one of which is located directly under the rock. The picturesque and interesting nature of the massif makes a trip here truly memorable and unusual.

It looks colorful among the emerald flora, inaccessible rocks and bright sky. According to tourists, the route to the attraction and the natural site itself make an incredible impression and are worth the long climb and the effort expended.
