Tom yam in the center of Pattaya is the best. Some useful tips for holidays in Pattaya. Geography or where Pattaya Island is located

Pattaya – most popular resort in the East of Thailand, located on the mainland, on the shores of the Gulf of Thailand and one of the favorite cities among Russians, where you can relax, swim and sunbathe all year round.

The popularity of Pattaya is largely due to the fact that direct flights from Russia fly here, the nature is beautiful, excursions are varied, prices still remain affordable, despite the crisis and the fall of the ruble against the baht.

This guide to Pattaya will be useful for both experienced and novice travelers who, with the help of up-to-date information will be able to prepare for the trip in advance to make their vacation high-quality and interesting without unnecessary overpayments.

Here is my many years of experience living in Pattaya, I hope it will be useful to you when planning your vacation.

Why Pattaya and not Phuket?

The main advantages of Pattaya:

Low prices
– Great weather all year round
– Proximity to main attractions

In Pattaya the prices are really lower than in other resorts. On the islands, they cannot a priori be comparable to those on the mainland, so Phuket costs tourists 30-40% more than Pattaya in all aspects.

Thrives in Pattaya and surrounding areas farming. Delicious fruits are sold here cheaply all year round. Food, things, entertainment - everything costs less than at other resorts in Thailand.

The weather in Pattaya is stable. The average annual temperature is about 29-30 degrees, the sea water is 24-25 degrees, and there is less precipitation throughout the year than anywhere else.

In Pattaya there is no season of prolonged rains, hurricane downpours or monsoons, as in Phuket, Koh Samui, Koh Phangan or other islands. You can relax in Pattaya all year round, and in summer it is also half the price in winter.

Pattaya is an international resort, there are a lot of Russians here. So if you don't know English, it's not a problem. In Pattaya, knowledge of a foreign language is not required. Even signs in stores, price lists on excursions, and other necessary things are in Russian.

Pattaya is located so well that it is not far from all the most interesting attractions, so the list of various excursions is simply huge.

Every year new interesting programs appear in Pattaya, museums and amphitheaters open, there is always something to see, even if you have already been here 20 times.

Pattaya is a resort for everyone, including families. You can come here with infant and feel comfortable. Or, in search of adventure, go to the red light district “Walking Street” and also be satisfied with your vacation.
Literally everyone will find entertainment to their liking in Pattaya. They don't judge you here, but accept you as you are. Sabai, Sanuk and Suai, have you heard?

I hope I convinced you that you made the right choice, now let's move on!

To Pattaya on your own or on a tour?

If you are traveling for 1-2 weeks, look at the tour packages. Most often this is the most cheap option, which includes: transfer, insurance, accommodation, flights and breakfasts.

The most useful sites in finding tours without overpayments and from reliable tour operators are aggregators and

It makes sense to go on your own if you haven’t found a cheap trip and you want to go for longer than a couple of weeks.

On your own to Pattaya

Need to do:

– buy air tickets
– visa (if you are flying for a period longer than 1 month)
– take out insurance
– book accommodation
– order a transfer from the airport

Flights to Thailand

Flights to Thailand are cheapest to buy in the low season, in summer. The difference in price can reach 100-300% compared to winter.

For parents with children, I recommend - (all this is a condo with water slides and entertainment, an area for children).
Also enjoying steady popularity -

You need to understand that large, new, popular, well-appointed condos with water slides, good repairs and walking distance to the sea are more expensive than those that do not have the above.

How to get from the airport to Pattaya

From Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi) Airport to Pattaya 120 km.

You can get to Pattaya either by public transport (bus) or by taxi.

Bus
The counter where they sell bus tickets is located on floor 1, exit 7-8.
Ticket to Pattaya – 120 – 250 baht.
Pros - cheap. And if you are not very tired or want to save money, traveling without children is a workable and good option. It takes about 2-2.5 hours to get there.
Cons: There are not always tickets available for the next flight.

The bus stop in Pattaya is the bus station on Thappraya Street in the Jomtien area. They also drop off in the direction of travel on North, Central Pattaya and South streets.

Taxi

A taxi is certainly more comfortable and faster.

You can take a taxi upon arrival (Bad idea. Expensive and stupid). You can book a transfer in advance by paying only a deposit.

I am completely satisfied with the transfer from KiwiTaxi . They meet you with a sign at the airport and wait. Clean cars, polite drivers. Fixed price.
A child seat is available upon request (must be booked in advance).

The price of such a transfer is not the cheapest (you can probably find a bomb cheaper), but the reliability outweighs it. This option is suitable for those who do not want to get on their nerves upon arrival or before departure.

A simple example situation. My friends had a flight at night, a taxi was supposed to be sent by a local (Thai-Russian) company. Departure time - no car. An hour passes - there is no car.
And the area is such that it’s problematic to call someone at 12 at night. In short, I’m not ready to worry like that, especially with a lot of luggage and an armful of children.
Kiwis have never let me down.

Mobile communications and Internet

Pattaya has good internet and cheap mobile connection. The easiest way is to connect to one of the cell phone shops at the airport and choose a tourist tariff for the duration of your stay along with the Internet.

If you are staying for a long time, take Dtac Turist sim, download the Dtac application and connect Mobile Internet“Smooth Clip” – unlimited, no speed reduction, 300 baht per month.
Calls to local mobile phones cost about 1 baht per minute. To Russia via code 0047 – 4.5 baht per minute.

Which area to choose in Pattaya?

Jomtien
The most popular area, with walking distance to the sea and developed infrastructure in the form of shops, cafes, massages, transport for 10 baht (songthaew).

Pratamnak
No public transport, getting to the city is inconvenient. There are good beaches.

Naklua(north)
There is no embankment, there are a lot of construction sites, it’s uncomfortable to walk in the evening, the main street leading into the city is always stuck in a traffic jam.
The beaches are good, there are many 5 star hotels.

Center
For those who don’t need a city beach (here it’s dirty) and need a constant party. Many shopping centers, cafes and restaurants nearby.
The pier from which boats go to Koh Larn is also not far away.

Weather in Pattaya

Pattaya does not have a pronounced rainy season like Phuket or Koh Samui.

The main precipitation here falls from October to December, so if you were there during this time, you understand that this period cannot be called the “rainy season”.
This graph pretty much lies about the amount of rain, in reality there is less of it.

Pattaya is the most sunny resort Thailand. There are more than 300 sunny days a year.

Air temperature on average +27 +30 degrees

In winter in the evening it can drop to +20.

It is hottest in spring – in March and April, up to +37.

In summer it is hot and dry. The rains are short, mostly at night.

Sea water temperature all year round +27 +30

It's hotter in summer, colder in winter.

If there are several cool days in a row, the water cools down to 25 degrees.

Where to buy groceries in Pattaya?

Convenience stores are common in Pattaya - 7/11 and Family Mart. They are literally everywhere and work around the clock.
In them you can find everything you need: from thread and needle to ready-made lunch.

For those who come to Pattaya for a long time and love (are going to) cook at home, the most the best option, buy groceries for the week ahead at the Macro store.

There are two Macros in Pattaya. One in the south, on Sukhumvit street. The second one is in the north. Cafes and restaurants are purchased from Makro. The products are fresh and inexpensive.

Some people like to buy groceries from Big C and Tesco Lotus. Unlike Makro (which does not offer delivery), groceries from Big C or Tesco can be ordered home. This is easy to do through the websites of these stores. Delivery is free for orders over 500 baht.

Fruits are usually bought at markets, which are also abundant in Pattaya and in every district.

The best fruit market with wholesale prices (but they also sell retail) is Ratanakorn Market. Located on Tepprasit street, in the middle.
You need to go there early in the morning; it closes after lunch.

A good fish market is located in the north, in the Naklua area.

Basic moments

In terms of entertainment and sex tourism, Pattaya is considered one of the world leaders. Go-go, exotic clubs, transvestite shows, dance floors, bars and noisy discos are on every corner. For those who want to always be in the thick of fun, Pattaya is an absolute paradise. In addition, lovers of sea fishing, diving and paragliding come to this Thai resort.

It would seem that Pattaya with its active entertainment for adults should not fit well with interests children's recreation. However, the city has many attractions for children: Mini Siam, water parks, zoos, a dolphinarium, the Underwater World aquarium, a sheep farm, pony rides and interesting museums. And Bangkok’s entertainment is just a stone’s throw away, which is why families with children also like to come to Pattaya on vacation.

Story

“Once upon a time in the south of Thailand, in a paradise, there was a wonderful little fishing village...,” - this is how the story about Pattaya could begin. But you can start it in another way: those who came to Pattaya to get to know Thailand made a bad choice. This city is a total contradiction.

Pattaya was “discovered” by the Americans, whose base military aviation Utaphau was located several kilometers south of the city. From here in the 1960s. B-52 bombers took off to drop their deadly payload on South Vietnam. Pattaya was for the Americans a place of soldier's rest in its traditional forms. The war was long over, but soldiers continued to visit Pattaya, and when an aircraft carrier berthed in the spacious bay, accompanied by a dozen more gray auxiliary ships, rejoicing began on the Beach Road embankment. “Welcome US Navy” was written on the banners. And indeed: American soldiers with tight wallets were here welcome guests. Europeans followed the Americans - tourism in Pattaya was gaining momentum: multi-storey hotels and restaurants sprang up like mushrooms after rain, offering cuisine from all countries in the world. The city's dubious reputation has been created by countless bars with half-naked girls, expensive Singha beer and a corresponding clientele. As a result, Pattaya became a Mecca for people of dubious reputation who found favorable conditions for dirty dealings or vicious entertainment. However, some of them fell into the hands of the Thai police and were immediately deported to their homeland.

But at all times there were plenty of decent and even truly outstanding people. At least three such names, inextricably linked with the history of Pattaya, must certainly be mentioned. One of them was Dutch long-distance traveler Dolf Rix, owner of a restaurant in Pattaya that served the best Indonesian rice dishes to be found west of Sumatra. Regulars gathered at his place every evening not only for an amazing meal, but also in order to freely complain about the growing tourist bustle from year to year.

A native of Switzerland, Alois Fassbind, who traveled for many years across all continents, also one fine day stopped in Pattaya and became general director Royal Cliff Hotel. Under his leadership, the hotel for some time became the best resort hotel South-East Asia. And since a certain distance from the city, reminiscent of a continuous red-light district, did not harm its reputation, Fassbind proudly indicated the location of his hotel in advertising brochures as “near Pattaya.”

The third should be called Father Brennan, the founder of the local orphanage. It was here that the unwanted “results” of holiday romances most often ended up - and the Irish Redemptorist took diligent care of them.

Almost until the end of the 1980s. the tourism industry profited from the negative image of Pattaya. But later the attitude changed: there was a desire to turn the “old whore,” as this city was called, not without tenderness, into a respectable vacation spot. War on prostitution was officially declared, and the most vile dens were closed by the police. However, Pattaya remained a dubious place. Evil tongues say, however, that it is no different from any Mediterranean resort, only it is located at 12°55" north latitude and 100°52" east longitude...

Today Pattaya is experiencing serious problems associated with the uncontrolled growth of visitors in previous decades. A massive government program has helped clean up the city's dubious reputation. Since powerful sewage treatment plants were put into operation in 1992, the quality of sea water has improved significantly. The city's water supply, especially during periods of drought, remains precarious.

Pattaya at night

How Pattaya differs from other resorts in Thailand

Question: which resort should I choose for my vacation? - arises in everyone who is going on a trip to the “kingdom of smiles” for the first time. Even old-timers who like to come to these places year after year sunny climes, there is no clear opinion on this matter. Assessing the advantages and disadvantages of Pattaya's resort opportunities is not an easy task. After all, what is a plus for some can become an obvious minus for others.

Pattaya is a mainland resort. Holidays in this city are considered cheaper than in Phuket and other island resorts. Pattaya has lower costs for transport rental, food, excursion services, spa and massage. Beach chairs and street food are cheaper here. When comparing housing prices, Pattaya also wins. Prices for public transport in Pattaya are also low, and tourists prefer not to walk, but use transport even over short distances.

By weather conditions Pattaya definitely wins. The advantageous location on the shore of a closed sea bay makes the climate in the continental resort more predictable and stable. There is less rainfall and cloudy days here than on the islands, and large storms are very rare. In addition, unlike Phuket, there is no threat of a tsunami here, since the depth of the Gulf of Thailand is shallow.

In terms of air pollution, Pattaya loses. There are a lot of people living in this city, and traffic is heavy. The beaches in Pattaya are not very clean, and the quality of sea water leaves much to be desired - too big metropolis formed around resort area. However, tourists and residents of the Thai resort found a way out. Just half an hour by sea ferry, you can enjoy the clean and tidy beaches of Koh Larn. In addition, there is always the opportunity to sail on rented boats to other, smaller islands located nearby.

There are diving centers in Pattaya that offer equipment rentals and training programs for scuba diving enthusiasts of various qualifications. For diving they usually go to nearby islands. There is a surf center in Jomtien. However, the conditions of the Gulf of Thailand are noticeably inferior for these species. active rest Andaman Sea in Phuket, where undersea world much more varied, and the winds are stronger.

When it comes to shopping, Pattaya has a number of advantages. Large shopping centers are concentrated locally here, and this is convenient. But the main advantage is the very location of the continental resort - its proximity to Bangkok. For guests of Pattaya, traveling to the Thai capital is not difficult at all. And the shopping opportunities in Bangkok are difficult to compare with anything else.

When is the best time to go to Pattaya?

The high tourist season in Pattaya begins in mid-November and ends by the end of March. The main reason for this increased activity of travelers is the beautiful weather. In winter, the kingdom is sunny and dry. average temperature air +28ºС. But in the daytime the thermometer rises significantly higher - up to +32...+33ºС. At night in Pattaya it is cooler - usually around +25ºС. But there are days when the temperature drops even lower - to +20ºС. Such a significant difference between day and night temperatures is very comfortable for the well-being of travelers who come on vacation from temperate latitudes and are still unfamiliar with the subequatorial climate. The sea water temperature is +27...+28ºС, and in the coastal part, in shallow water and on the surface, the water can heat up even more.

There is practically no rain in Pattaya. There are rarely one or two days with short-term precipitation in a whole month. AND total There is little precipitation - about 20 mm. There are no strong winds in winter; only fresh sea breezes are possible in the evenings or early mornings. There is a lot of sun. There are almost no clouds, and therefore, despite the winter, the daylight hours are long - about 12 hours.

In March, the high tourist season in Pattaya begins to decline. And the main reason for this is the change in weather. Last month spring at the resort becomes a transition to the hot season, which will soon begin in the “kingdom of smiles”. At this time of year, there are fewer travelers in Pattaya, and prices for hotels and tourism services fall.

It gets hotter: during the day – up to +34...+36ºС, and at night – up to +27ºС. Sea water warms up to +29ºС. Sea disturbances are still minor as there are no strong winds. The average wind force for the month is only 4 m/s, and the sea is usually stormy only during a thunderstorm. The amount of precipitation increases and air humidity rises.

April is considered the hottest month of the year, and the feeling of heat is further enhanced by the almost complete calm. Quantity rainy days this month is comparable to March (4-5) - the monsoon period is still ahead.

There is a lot of rainfall in Pattaya in May. This is the so-called first monsoon maximum. The second occurs at the beginning of autumn - September and October. In addition, May, like April, is a hot month. Combination high temperatures and humidity is not well tolerated by everyone, so May at the resort is rightfully considered the month of the low tourist season. However, in the second half of May the winds in Pattaya become stronger, and it becomes much easier to bear the heat.

By June, the peak of the hot season passes, and the secret resort becomes a little cooler than in May. The summer months are characterized by heavy, short-term downpours, after which the soil and vegetation quickly dry out. Before thunderstorms, gusty winds arise and the sea becomes rough. The monsoons coming from the ocean are intensified by coastal winds, so June is considered the windiest month of the year. The number of completely clear days is reduced to 9-10, and many clouds appear in the sky. Several days a month are completely cloudy, and most are partly cloudy. However, the sun is enough for a good tan. Similar weather lasts in Pattaya until the end of summer. And only at the very end of August the monsoons slowly begin to gain strength.

In September, throughout Thailand, and Pattaya is no exception, the peak of the monsoon season begins. Real, abundant tropical rains come to the kingdom. The weather forecast for this month guarantees stormy weather and high humidity, so in the first two months of autumn it is hardly worth planning a visit to Pattaya for beach holiday And sea trips. However, this time of year is perfect for bus travel around the resort and surrounding area, shopping and exploring the unique Thai cuisine. September is considered the rainiest month of the year. Even Thais, accustomed to these vagaries of weather, try not to forget their umbrellas when leaving home in early autumn.

With November, the tropical monsoon climate finally leaves Pattaya, giving way to a long high tourist season, lasting until spring. At the beginning of the month, gusty winds from the Gulf of Thailand are still possible, bringing short-term thunderstorms. But from mid-November, dry, clear, partly cloudy weather sets in, and there are never strong winds. A real holiday begins for travelers - lovers of beach holidays, sea attractions and entertainment. The flow of tourists to the kingdom is growing every day, as are prices for tourism services and rental housing.

You can come to Pattaya at any time of the year. Travelers love this Thai resort for the year-round opportunity to sunbathe and swim in the warm sea. Thailand is always interesting, no matter what tourist season you visit. Whatever the weather, there is an opportunity to see new places and get acquainted with original Thai traditions.

Water parks in Pattaya

The network of water parks in Pattaya is constantly developing. The construction of new attractions has not yet been fully completed. But with its end, we can hope that all the needs of tourists and local residents for entertainment of this level will be satisfied.

Most old park water activities the resort is located on the territory of the Pattaya Park hotel Beach Resort» at the address: 345 Jomtien Beach, Pattaya City, Chonburi 20150 Thailand – South Pattaya (first coastline). This is the only hotel in a Thai resort that has its own water park. Since the sea within the city limits is not very clean, such a complex of water activities is very convenient for families with children. Water attractions include 6 long and spinning slides, large Jacuzzis and a long circular pool.

On the territory of the water park there is a so-called private beach, equipped with comfortable sun loungers and umbrellas. Here you can use the services of specialists in Thai therapeutic and wellness massage. The park area is fenced. Entrance fee - 100 baht. The sea is several tens of meters from here and from all places in the park, especially from the highest points water slides, perfectly visible water surface Gulf of Thailand, beach coastline, the island of Koh Larn, located 8 km from the mainland, and several other smaller islands.

Waterpark Cartoon Network Amazone

Guests of this water park will be able to visit 14 zones of various entertainment, thematically related to the ancient epic “Ramayana”.

Part water attractions includes a "wave pool". In one part of it you can sway on the sea surface with light ripples, as if in a breeze. The other part imitates real ocean waves. In addition, the park has a “lazy river” - a long pool with a current. A “flourwriter” has been built for surfing on the waves. Other original Ramayana structures: “vortex” and “family raft ride” are designed for 3-4 people at a time; “duel master blaster” – wet slides of different shapes and sizes; “Boomerango” is a half pipe with a large slope.

Beaches and nearby islands

Pattaya beaches They do not enjoy the best reputation, although some vacationers are quite happy with them. Large equipped beach areas are located in the city center (along Beach Street) and in the Jomtien area - in the south of Pattaya. The rest of the resort's beaches are much smaller. The main disadvantage of Pattaya beaches is water pollution. If the sand and beach area are still somehow cleaned, there is plenty of garbage in the sea.

Most tourists who come to Pattaya go for a swim on Koh Larn, an island 8 km away from the coast. Ferries and speedboats operate daily from Bali Hai Pier, which is located near Walking Street at the foot of Pratumnak Hill. The ferry ride lasts about 40 minutes and costs 30 THB. The boat reaches Koh Larn in 15-20 minutes and costs 150 THB per person.

The island has several equipped beaches. The sea here is much cleaner than in the city of Pattaya, and the holiday is pleasant. On each of the beaches you can rent sun loungers and umbrellas, as well as dine at local restaurants. You can get around the island both by public transport and by rented motorbikes. If you wish, it is easy to rent hotel rooms on Koh Lan and spend a few days.

In addition, from Pattaya you can take a boat to other, smaller islands. Such trips are preferred by those who love a deserted holiday, far from civilization.

What to see on your own in Pattaya

Pattaya is a popular global resort offering its guests a wide variety of entertainment and attractions. In Pattaya, it is interesting to visit the Temple of Truth, the elephant village and look at the golden rock image of Buddha. In addition to sea travel, Pattaya offers a variety of excursions along the coast - along historical monuments Buddhism, the tropical garden-park of Nong Nooch, the island of Samet, a crocodile farm, zoos, and places of national crafts and crafts. Day excursions to Bangkok and other Thai cities are also organized from Pattaya.

It’s interesting to take a walk along Volkin Street, which runs along seashore. It starts under Pratumnak Hill and extends to the beginning of Beach Road. During daylight hours this street looks quite dull and sleepy; it is a roadway. Towards the evening (after 18.00) this part of Pattaya is closed to public transport, and it is transformed.

Volkin Street appears as a bright, red-light street full of lights and entertainment. And although prostitution is officially prohibited in Thailand, many go-go bars, strip clubs and other similar establishments open on Volkin Street and adjacent intersections. Thrill-seekers and sex shows from all over the world especially come here. However, they are not the only ones. Every evening, many simple onlookers walk along Volkin Street - travelers who are far from the topic of sex tourism and even parents with children.

Walking around Pattaya, it is interesting to visit a high hill Big Buddha. At its top, where an asphalt road and 120 steps lead, there is a platform where a statue of the Big Buddha and smaller sculptures of Buddha are installed - a whole complex of religious monuments. There are several Buddhist relics here and you can receive blessings from the monks. The site offers wonderful views of the urban areas of Pattaya and the shore of the Gulf of Thailand. A little lower on the hill there is a beautiful Chinese temple with a monument to Confucius.

The neighboring Pratumnak Hill, located closer to the sea, also has attractions. An asphalt road leads to it from Big Buddha Hill. Pratamnak is higher and the climb up this hill is steeper. At the top of the hill, travelers will find an excellent Observation deck, from where you can clearly see the central part of the city and the island of Koh Larn.

On your own In Pattaya you can visit a transvestite show. They are shown in the city in three places at once - in the Tiffany, Colosseum and Alcazar entertainment centers.

There are also several museums to explore within the city. Unusual museum Ripley's is located on the top floor of the Royal Garden Plaza shopping center. This is a whole museum complex, which consists of an endless mirror maze, a wax museum, a Believe It or Not museum, several scare rooms and a 4D cinema.

Ripley Museum

An interesting collection of miniature architectural attractions is exhibited in the open air - Mini Siam Park. There are the most famous Buddhist pagodas and monasteries of Thailand and Southeast Asia, as well as replicas of the most famous buildings in Europe. The park looks very beautiful in the evening, when the mini-monuments are illuminated with original lighting. Mini Siam is located on Sukhumvit Street, in the northern part of the city. You can get there by taxi or public transport around Sukhumvit.

Mini Siam Park

Opposite Mini Siam, in a building that resembles a large head, is the Bottle Art Museum Pattaya. This is an interesting collection of glass bottles with miniatures placed inside.

On Second Street, in the central part of Pattaya, opposite the Tiffany entertainment center, there is an original 3D museum (Art in paradise). It is interesting to visit for selfie lovers and beautiful photos against the background of works of 3D art.

Where to eat

Tourist packages to Pattaya, as a rule, include only hotel breakfast, so food issues are decided by travelers on their own. But it's not a problem. It is impossible to go hungry at a Thai resort. Cafes, bars and restaurants are open here at every turn. Prices, as well as the level of service, of course, can differ significantly, so there is no need to rush. There is always a choice in Pattaya. And here you can always find a place that will satisfy absolutely everything - the range, the quality of food, the service, and the price.

Pattaya is made for tourists, so there are many restaurants here national cuisines– Russian, Turkish, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Mediterranean and others. Most cafes and restaurants serve European and Thai cuisine. Thai cuisine is very original and is considered one of the best in the world. Getting to know her means pleasant discoveries and... surprises. Thai food tends to be spicy. And if you want to try this or that local dish, it is better to ask the waiter not to make it spicy - “but spicy.”

Variety of Pattaya cuisine

Throughout Thailand, and Pattaya is no exception, there are many food vendors on the streets - makashnits. They sell fruit or skewers, pancakes, soups, freshly prepared salads, various sweets and ice cream. It is absolutely safe to eat from makashniks, since these people have been trading in the same places for years, sometimes from generation to generation. They serve both tourists and Thais themselves, and therefore are interested in having a good reputation and selling quality food to customers.

Many tourists who come to Pattaya prefer to eat in food courts. These are inexpensive public catering centers that are open in large shopping centers: Tukkom, Big C, Tesco, Mike Shopping Mall, Central Festival. Here, in one place, several small restaurants are concentrated, offering 10-15 dishes each. When you enter the food court, you can choose the dishes and drinks you like, just like in a dining room. Payment is made through the cash register using a plastic card or food court coupons.

Cheap food at food markets cities. Small restaurants and cafes are always open there. In addition, a lot of Seven-Eleven (7-11) and Family-Mart chain stores have been created in Pattaya. They work around the clock and sell ready-made chilled food (pizzas, main courses with rice), pancakes, sandwiches, burgers, as well as sausages, sausages and pies, which sellers, at the request of customers, heat up in microwaves for free. In addition, in these stores you can buy milk, yoghurts, juices, coffee, carbonated and drinking water, beer and alcoholic drinks.

Waterpark at Pattaya Park Beach Resort

Most tourists opt for beautiful Thai folk crafts - painted fans and umbrellas made of Sa paper, wooden carved sculptures and boxes, souvenirs made of palm leaves, jewelry made of natural stone, shells and pearls, famous Thai silk and ceramics. In addition, you can buy high-quality leather belts, wallets and bags in Pattaya.

It is very convenient to buy souvenirs in the large Lukdot store, which is located at 209/10 Youmei Central Pattaya (North Street lane, near Sukhumvit). This store has almost all types of souvenirs and their prices are not inflated. It is also convenient that there is a free transfer to Lukdot from Pattaya hotels.

They also try to import locally produced cosmetics and balms, syrups, fruit vitamin supplements, coconut oil and noni juice from Thailand. Prices for such products can vary significantly. These types of goods are cheapest in Thai markets, as well as in the Beauty chain of specialized stores, of which there are several in Pattaya. One of them is located next to the famous Tukkom electronics center on South Street.

Transport

It is convenient to move around the city and its suburbs using rented cars or motorbikes - there are many car rental outlets in Pattaya. In addition, it is convenient to travel around Pattaya by taxi, although this is the most expensive way to get around the resort. Taxi cars stand out from other cars with their specific bright colors and checkered signs.

Motorbikes on the streets of Pattaya

Almost all cars have meters, however, drivers refuse to use them. In Pattaya this is the norm, and the price of the trip has to be negotiated. Unfortunately, taxi fares in Pattaya are several times higher than in Bangkok. The price of the trip starts from 100 THB (for very short distances). Common price travel around the city – 200-300 THB.

Very cheap and popular types of transport that are used by all tourists and residents of the city are songthaews, tuk-tuks and motorcycle taxis. Songthaew means "two benches" in Thai. This is the name given to pickup trucks with a covered body that are equipped to carry passengers. For 10-12 people there is seat place, and a few more passengers may be standing. A standard trip costs 10 THB, and for long distances it costs up to 30 THB.

Songthaew routes are located along most of the streets of Pattaya. Cars with white bodies drive around Sukhumvit, and blue songthaews carry passengers along the streets located to the west of Sukhumvit (the seaside part of the resort). There are also blue, green and red cars, but they mainly serve the non-tourist areas of Pattaya.

Songthaew can also be used as a taxi. To do this, you need to stop the car and agree with the driver on the route. In this case, the price of the trip will be comparable to the cost regular taxi, but if you bargain, it can be reduced a little.

Tuk-tuks are covered three-wheeled scooters designed for 1-2 passengers. You need to negotiate the price of the trip with the tuk-tuk driver. Compared to Bangkok, where there are many tuk-tuks on all streets, in Pattaya such transport is quite rare.

It is also convenient to travel around Pattaya by motorcycle taxi, especially if you are traveling alone or together, without bulky cargo. You can get to the right place faster with scooters, as this type of transport easily avoids traffic jams. Places where there are motorcycle taxi drivers (motosai) are located near all shopping centers and almost every intersection. Drivers wear colored vests (orange, yellow, green and blue). The cost of a short distance trip (2 km) starts from 30 THB.

To get from Pattaya to Bangkok or to attractions located in the vicinity of the city, use regular buses and minivans.

How to get to Pattaya from Bangkok

To get from Russia to Pattaya, you first need to fly by plane to the capital of Thailand - Bangkok. Travel time without transfers will be 9-11 hours. Accepts flights from Russia main airport Thailand "Suvarnabhumi" - the largest air gate South-East Asia. This airport is located on the eastern outskirts of Bangkok, and the road from it to the resort takes about two hours (165 km).

The first option to get to Pattaya is by taxi. Depending on the size of the car, the trip will cost 1200-4000 THB. In order not to run into scammers, it is better to order a car at the “Public Taxi” counter, which is located on the ground floor of the airport. From the arrivals area you can go down there by escalators.

The second, no less convenient, but much more cheap way– come to Pattaya for regular bus. The ticket offices that sell tickets for these buses are located on the 1st level of the airport, near exit No. 8. The fare is 134 THB. And the travel time, like by taxi, is about two hours. Buses depart from 7.00 to 21.00 at hourly intervals. You can brighten up the waiting time in the nearby food court - have a snack, eat ice cream or drink coffee.

At the Little garden cafe We have been going to Pattaya for three years now. This beautiful place to have a delicious and beautiful meal in a relaxed atmosphere.
Beautiful and tasty are the key words. Because here the dishes are served on beautiful large plates, interestingly decorated, and delicious because
There are several dishes in this cafe that, in my opinion, are cooked here the most delicious.
There are a lot of paintings, sculptures, and decor around that were created by the owner of this establishment, so you can also choose something for yourself during lunch.
home, for interior.
Let me introduce you to one of my favorite cafes in Pattaya.

Cafe in Pattaya for romantic dinners and meetings – Little garden cafe on Thappraya

IN All the best meetings are a chain of coincidences, have you noticed?
When I arrived with a huge belly to give birth in Pattaya, our choice fell on the ABC language school, which is located in Thappraya, and
Little garden is the closest place to this school, literally one step away to have a snack and drink coffee.
Then, 3 years ago, there were very few people there, not at all, and the prices were just cheap. Oh, unfortunately, the cafe has become popular, and
prices have increased 3 times, but still, sometimes we come here to eat the most delicious Tom Yum in Pattaya and remember the old days.

Little garden – interior and paintings

H I like Little garden cafe? Interior. It would seem that the furniture was set - some chairs, tables - sofas, and everything different, complete discord.
On the other hand, everyone can find their favorite stool, their own ottoman and will remain here forever, among regular customers.

IN district of the picture. Many pictures. Paintings lie on the floor in stacks, hang on the walls, they are everywhere. The author (the owner of the cafe) knows many artistic techniques.
It feels like some of the stories are for the consumer, and some are for yourself. It’s very interesting to think over a cup of coffee about where things are.

I have seen more than once how customers come to him, for whom he wraps either a painting or a figurine. There are also a lot of them, and although I don’t like this at all, I’m ready to admit
The artist's cats from Little garden are beautiful.
And not just cats. He ages his sculptures so well, they look as if they had lain underground for 300 years.

Cafe in Pattaya with delicious European and Thai food

WITH The owners don't cook. They have several excellent chefs who prepare many dishes in such a way that I only go there for them.
My favorites are Tom Yum with shrimp (smoking, juicy, with huge shrimp!) Pasta, again with shrimp and pesto.

P I specifically specify the shrimp; huge shrimp and tiger shrimp are rarely found in regular dishes in cafes.
And they don’t feel sorry for them.

My husband loves European cuisine and orders chop with mashed potatoes here. It also comes with a delicious sauce and vegetables.

Sandwiches and chicken salad are mediocre in my opinion.

But you can forgive this and close your eyes when you think about drinks.
The Little garden cafe in Pattaya offers delicious fruit smoothies and, of course, coffee.
Watermelon shake is our hit. In an ice-cold glass, with a long-handled spoon and lovingly carved watermelon balls for decoration.

E You can also buy a dragon shake here, in my opinion it is rarely sold, I have never seen it anywhere. I don’t like it, but my daughter really does.

I recommend any coffee. They have a good coffee machine and Bon Cafe brand coffee, order both hot and cold, it’s all delicious.
The owner of the cafe decorates the ice coffee very beautifully. Lots of cream, chocolate, caramel - whoever likes what.

Little garden – desserts

There was a problem with desserts. But it's over. Homemade cakes appeared. Delicious! There are also waffles, pancakes, and fruit.

Little garden – breakfasts

Of course there are also breakfasts. Breakfast is ordinary - nothing extraordinary and, moreover, more expensive than in the same or - so
There's no point in going here for breakfast.
For 160 baht (320 rubles) you can have breakfast almost everywhere in Pattaya.

Where is this cafe located?

Easy to find. Everyone who has been to Pattaya, I think, has passed through it at least once. It is located on Thappraya Road. This is the street that goes from Jomitien to the pier and
10 baht minibuses go along it.

The cafe is located on the 10th soi of Thappraya, the landmark is ABC school. Opposite, across the road is Rita Resort, a good and popular hotel among Russians.

They open a little late - around 10, and usually close at 20:00, but now, during the season, they work longer. We were there at 22:00, it was still open and there was nowhere to sit.
Sunday is a day off. The owners - husband, wife and son, live there, on the second floor.

They are certainly unusual Thais in my understanding. Very Europeanized, but at the same time very sensitive to their own culture and preserving its traditions.

We have been registering on the website for many years, which give the best prices insurance and selection along with registration takes only a couple of minutes.

TOURISTS' ANSWERS:

Is the answer helpful?

Pattaya is one of the largest and most visited resorts in Thailand. What is most memorable for a person visiting this country for the first time? First of all, it is the sun, the ocean waves, beautiful beaches. Added to this is the delicious exotic cuisine, unusual excursions and travel, rich and untamed nature. All this creates an explosion of emotions that simply overflow. And those who have already been there probably dream of returning. Why is it that we are so attracted to holidays in this wonderful country, at this popular and friendly resort?

Of course, it is immediately apparent that this is a country of very strong contrasts. The flashy luxury of royal palaces against the backdrop of poor neighborhoods, markets coexist with fashionable ones shopping centers and hypermarkets, luxury hotels next to tiny shacks. But this is a fact of the country that we cannot change. But despite these social contrasts, Thailand is called the land of a million smiles. Wherever you need to communicate with local residents, whether they are rich or poor, everyone smiles at you. And this is not a “glued-on”, hypocritical smile. Try, even without knowing the language, to approach a Thai with any question. His desire to help you will be sincere, you will both laugh heartily that you cannot understand each other. We come to this country for spiritual relaxation, smile back at the smile. You are truly welcome at this resort.

I would like to note that prices for all tourist services in Thailand are very affordable. A Pattaya resort compares favorably with prices for the better, subject to all other conditions of your holiday. While vacationing in Pattaya, it is impossible to single out any particular profile. Everyone, with their own individual inclinations, will find entertainment to suit their taste. Both young and old. Night life Pattaya is truly a celebration of life. Guests of other resorts, romantic Samui and fashionable Phuket, come here without regret. But the noisy life of the city does not interfere with a relaxing holiday in hotels. Another huge advantage of Pattaya is the geographical location of the resort. The city is located in picturesque bay protected by mountains. This allows you to relax here even during the rainy season.

But the very concept of “rainy season” is greatly exaggerated for Pattaya. If somewhere during this season tropical downpours continue for days and weeks, then here the rain can last 1.5-2 hours, after which the sun shines again and everything dries out instantly. Mostly it rains in the afternoon or at night. But this supposedly negative weather phenomenon can have a positive effect on tour prices, naturally in the direction of lower prices.

The city of Pattaya with its beaches is conventionally divided into three zones: southern, central and northern. The beaches of the northern zone are especially popular among lovers aquatic species sports This is also due to the geography of the bay; it is windier here and there are more waves. Hotels in the city are designed to suit the different tastes of guests and the thickness of their wallets. We must remember that city hotels do not have their own beaches. All of them are municipally owned, meaning all services are paid, including visits. Private beaches Only hotels in the suburban area have it. So, it's up to you to choose.

Pattaya, the “richest” resort in terms of attractions. And everything is not so far away. These are nature reserves wildlife, And historical places with ancient palaces and man-made gardens. Their number is so large that it is simply impossible to visit them all on one vacation. And this is another reason to come back here.

Is the answer helpful?

When choosing a holiday resort, you should always start, first of all, from your own preferences. What should you do on vacation? What kind of entertainment? Or maybe you just need the azure sea and silence? Secondly, of course, you need to look at the cost of the tour.

Thailand is now one of the most accessible countries for Russian tourists. However, even if you are planning to visit the kingdom, you have a choice of where to go.

And if the purpose of the trip is to lie in the sun, leaving the beach, perhaps, to buy fruit (or even without leaving at all), to have breakfast, lunch and dinner included in the tour, and also to go with the children in the morning for exercises with an animator, then Pattaya is clearly not for you.

But if you plan to devote your vacation to trips, excursions, sightseeing, and in the evenings you want to have fun in one of the clubs and bars, then you have a direct route to Pattaya. This is the city that never sleeps. You will probably not find such an abundance of bars as here anywhere in Thailand. What is the value of the popular Walking Street, which has already become business card Pattaya. This is a paradise for single men on holiday. Sex tourism, developed in Pattaya, is a well-known fact, and a good part of the strong half of humanity from different countries comes here in search of free love.

However, this does not mean that a lonely girl will have nothing to do in Pattaya, since both in Pattaya itself and in its surroundings there are a lot of interesting places - beautiful temples, parks, 3D galleries, zoos, amusement parks. Yes, and on the above-mentioned Walking Street you can always find cafes or clubs to your liking. You can also go have fun in Bangkok (2 hours drive is Pattaya).

In addition, Pattaya is one of the cheapest resorts in Thailand. It is usually cheaper to fly to Pattaya than to any other resort in Thailand. The cost of food, public transport, entertainment services, taxi services is lower here; you can also easily find very budget accommodation. Let's say that on the island of Phuket you will not be able to get from point A to point B for 10 baht, how much you would pay in Pattaya for traveling around the city on a songthaew.

Naturally, the cheapness of the resort is justified by the fact that there are also disadvantages. Whatever one may say, Pattaya is a rather dirty city: street vendors and cafe workers often pour waste into the drain, which creates a very specific “aroma”. The sea here is far from ideal: mainly, visitors go to swim on the nearest islands, where the water is cleaner, however, due to big amount tourists, and the islands may not be very comfortable. The beaches, of course, are cleaned, but you still won’t find fine white sand there. And during the low tide season, there is a high probability of beaches littered with bags and disposable plates.

So, if you are going to vacation in Pattaya, weigh all the pros and cons so as not to be disappointed and not spoil your vacation. Be prepared that Pattaya is more of a city of entertainment than have a relaxing holiday. Although here, if you want and are in the right mood, you can have a good rest by the sea, drinking a pina colada on a sun lounger overlooking the sea and admiring the sunset, they are amazing here.

Is the answer helpful?

I would recommend going to Pattaya to anyone who wants to get vivid impressions from relaxation and at the same time, do not overpay. This resort is considered one of the most economical in Thailand. The main reason for this is not very clean beach in the city itself. Because of this, you have to go swimming to the nearest islands. The most popular of them is Ko Lan. The trip there is not expensive and takes about 40 minutes. But in Pattaya, in addition to a beach holiday, you can find a lot of entertainment. The only caveat is that I would not recommend going there with children, at least very young ones. Firstly, they won’t be very interested there, and secondly, Thai food is not very suitable for children’s digestion. The most important attraction of Pattaya is the world famous Walking Street. Moreover, if you walk along it during the day, it is not at all remarkable. But with the onset of darkness everything changes dramatically. After all, this street is the capital of world debauchery: there are many brothels, discos and gay clubs open there. Men love to come there in search of entertainment. So, it is better for married couples with children not to go to this street. Pattaya is ideal for a group holiday and girls there have absolutely nothing to fear. This city is a fairly safe place to stay. On the other hand, Pattaya is very interesting, a large number of excursions. Moreover, excursions can last from a couple of hours to several days. You need to come to Pattaya for at least two weeks to have time to see at least half of the attractions and try delicious Thai cuisine. After visiting Pattaya, many choose other holiday destinations in Thailand, and many, having fallen in love with this city, return there again and again.

Today Pattaya is the most popular city Thailand among Russian tourists and expats. Some even call it Thai Gelendzhik. Sometimes, while sunbathing on the beach, you can forget that you are thousands of kilometers from home. And yet, despite the popularity of the resort, sometimes inexperienced tourists ask questions that can, to put it mildly, leave you stunned. Therefore, we decided to finally dot the i's and tell what kind of city this is.

If we literally translate the name, it will turn out very intricately: “wind from the southwest, coming with monsoon rains.” As many vowels as there are in the name of a city, there are as many stress variants among the people. But the right one (as the locals say) is still Pattayaˊ. Every year the government invests a whole bunch of dollars in the development of the city and new projects so that tourists want to come back here again and again. And they come back, and some even stay.

Geography or where is Pattaya Island?

Know that when you say that Pattaya is an island, your old geography teacher will have a very hard time hiccupping at home. Because in fact the city is located in mainland Thailand, in the province of Chonburi, just 165 kilometers from Bangkok and 650 kilometers (as the crow flies) from Phuket.

But not far from the coast there are several islands, Koh Lan (Koh Lan), Koh Kood (Koh Kood), Koh Wai (Koh Wai), Koh Si Chang (Koh Si Chang), Koh Mak (Koh Mak), Koh Samet ( Ko Samet) and Koh Chang (Koh Chang).

Koh Chang Island, the largest of the list and the most beautiful. This is where most travelers flock to enjoy clear sea And snow-white beaches.

Weather and climate: when is the best time to go?

Travel agents like to tell their clients that Pattaya (unlike many other resorts in Thailand) can receive guests all year round, since the rainy season here is a very relative concept. Of course, there are also high and low seasons.

During the winter months the city buzzes with bees and is relatively cool and dry. At the end of May, there are significantly fewer tourists, and heavy but short-lived rains begin to fall. It's getting hot and humid.

Nature, landscape and sea

Pattaya is comfortably located in the Gulf of Thailand (or as they also say) Gulf of the South China Sea. East Coast, on which the city stretches, bends picturesquely in an arc. There are several here national parks and untouched forests, and in the coastal waters there are uninhabited islands.

Songthaews (mistakenly called tuk-tuks)

Songthaews form the basis of public transport. In a blue pickup truck with roofs and benches for passengers, you can get to almost anywhere in the city. The fare costs only 10 baht, provided that the tourist knows about it in advance, behaves confidently and does not ask to be taken to a specific place. So the driver may think that he is being taken as a taxi and charge a much higher price.

Taxi

A more expensive travel option is a taxi. It is noteworthy that almost all cars in the city are equipped with a meter, however, not all drivers use them. Usually the cost of the trip is negotiable (from 150 baht), so you always need to bargain.

Mototaxi

An excellent option in terms of price-quality ratio is transportation on motorbikes. This is the fastest way to get around Pattaya, and relatively cheap (40-80 baht within the city).

Beaches

Prices

The distance between the cities is only 147 kilometers, which can be covered in approximately two hours by choosing one of two roads: route No. 7 or route No. 34. This can be done by a rented car, by taxi, by bus, by minibus, or by transfer with a tour operator. On weekdays, you can also travel from Bangkok to Pattaya by train.

In addition to Suvarnabhumi, there is another airport in Bangkok that specializes in domestic flights, but has recently begun to accept international flights. This is Don Muang. The easiest way to get there is by taxi.

Cellular communications and Internet

If you need to call a local landline number, then telephone code Pattaya - 038.

Before calling a Thai number, you should dial 0 if you are calling from local number, and +66 – if from Russian. It is more convenient and cheaper to use a local SIM card (1-2-Call, TrueMove and DACT Happy).

There are no problems with Internet access in the city. Most of hotels provide access via Wi-Fi (some for free, some for money). There are many Internet cafes in the city, some offer per-minute rates (1 baht/min), hourly payment ranges from 20 to 130 baht/hour. The connection and speed are relatively good, but major cities The Internet in Russia is clearly better and more stable.

Safety

While vacationing in Pattaya, you should remember that many illegal immigrants from Cambodia, Burma and other countries come to the city. And they don’t always stop at violating labor laws. Most of the crimes such as theft and fraud are committed by such comrades.

Be careful if you go out wearing expensive jewelry, it can be torn off right on the street and even in songthaew.

Do not carry large sums of money with you; keep all valuables and documents in a safe at home. When walking down the street, hold your bag tightly. Try not to walk along the road - this way you become a tasty morsel for thieves on motorcycles. If there is no other option, then keep your bag in your hand at the curb.
