When we are preparing for our next trip to the sea, many questions always arise. The first and main question is where to go?

There is no clear answer to this question. Everything is determined by your needs and capabilities. It’s very good when our desires correspond to our capabilities! And, of course, chance plays an important role here. This is exactly what happened last time, when the next physics congress was held in the jungles of Thailand. It may seem a little strange to some that we arrived in the jungle for the conference with a mask, fins and all the necessary equipment for underwater filming, but it didn’t seem that way to us. We had 2 weeks of vacation ahead of us, and we dreamed of relaxing with pleasure on the seaside after the conference.

Before the trip, we scoured the Internet very carefully.. The closest sea to us was in Pattaya, but Pattaya, dirty in all respects, was not taken into account. There were also not very flattering reviews about the island of Koh Samui due to the transparency (or rather opacity) of the water, but we wanted to combine diving and snorkeling, and we needed at least 10-15 meters of visibility for photography. For reference: Experts have identified the ten most picturesque islands planets. The top of the top list was the Phi Phi Islands (Thailand). They are located in the Andaman Sea, between Phuket and the mainland, and are part of the Krabi province. We are familiar with these places because we have been here before and we really like them. Without hesitation, we fly to Phuket, and then by ferry to Phi Phi.

During the three years of our absence here, almost nothing has changed. Except that several new hotels were added, the old ones were improved, but the beaches and nature around remained the same. As before, we stopped again on Long Beach, at the Paradise Hotel on the very shore of the best beach. Moreover, since the main purpose of this year’s trip is diving, snorkeling and underwater photography, there are simply no better places for this. Next to the beach, very close to the shore, there is a triple reef called Shark Point, i.e. a place where you can find reef sharks, where they have been regularly coming to feed for many years, and perhaps decades. Moray eels also love these places, whose predatory mouths are always open, and at any moment they are ready to rush at their prey. This year I met here right on the beach, two dozen meters from the shore, stingrays, whose spines are very dangerous if you accidentally step on it! If we add to this company poisonous sea snakes, huge and no less poisonous jellyfish, as well as a myriad of hedgehogs, then for lovers of thrills, extreme sports and adrenaline, this is what you need.

Scuba divers prepare for diving. I'm on the left. Water transparency is about 15 meters.

Seascape at a depth of 5 meters

Corals appear and the first fish appear

The word "coral" in our minds is always associated with something hard and fragile, as in these photographs, although there are also soft corals.

Sea anemones- these are not plants, but marine animals from the class of coral polyps. This is a soft coral

Ball coral Brainiac resembles the shape of a brain, hence its name

A type of brain coral unfolded into a spiral. In the middle, complex structures are visible, reminiscent of half-opened scrolls of ancient manuscripts that created the polyps of plate coral.

Vessel-shaped corals

These corals resemble mushrooms on the seabed

This coral is called Acropora. It comes in different colors: green, beige, brown, white and possibly other shades too.

coral reef

This is also a close-up of coral

It’s very beautiful to watch jellyfish underwater in their free soaring - you just have to always remember one thing: don’t touch them with your hands. It’s just that in water and especially under water, you always have to be a little more careful when encountering any types of flora and fauna, including jellyfish.

Sea urchins are one of the most common and very dangerous inhabitants of coral reefs. The hedgehog's body, the size of an apple, is studded with 30-centimeter needles sticking out in all directions. They are very mobile, sensitive and react instantly to irritation. If a shadow suddenly falls on a hedgehog, it immediately points its needles towards danger and puts them together, several at a time, into a sharp, hard peak. Even gloves and wetsuits do not guarantee complete protection from the formidable peaks of the sea urchin. The needles are so sharp and fragile that, having penetrated deep into the skin, they immediately break off and it is extremely difficult to remove them from the wound. One of the representatives is pictured sea urchins - diadem. It looks very beautiful, but after 26 of its needles dug into my leg, my attitude towards it changed dramatically. For those who suffer the same fate, I can give helpful advice how to treat in this case. I was taught this remedy by the natives, who picked a lemon, rubbed it on my leg, and then, to enhance the effect, began to beat in lemon juice with a beer bottle. An hour later the pain went away, although the needles still remained in my leg. I don’t know what will happen to them later. I hope that they will come out on their own in time.

Another representative of the 940 known hedgehog species with white spines and a black star in the center.

And these hedgehogs are located in the nodes of a crystal lattice, very reminiscent of the structure of table salt!

The largest Blue starfish- harmful and dangerous

Cushion star TOulcite- beautiful and safe

Tridacna is a genus of bivalve molluscs that are abundant in the tropical waters of the Andaman Sea

Sometimes there are such mollusks with a shell, the length of which approaches two meters, and the weight reaches 250 kilograms, but I came across mostly small specimens, but very beautiful in different colors and shades.

This is a young tridacna, and when it grows up, it will pose a great danger. If you touch the inner surface, the doors slam shut,
and you won’t be able to free your arm (or leg). The same as surfacing with such a load.

In this photo, the shell did not have time to slam shut, and the mollusk itself is clearly visible

Where there are corals, there are coral fish of all kinds of colors.

A flock of blue-eyed ones!

School of mullet

School of fish illuminated by the sun

These variegated multi-colored parrot fish remind political map peace!

This is not in an aquarium, but in the sea, and the sea is literally boiling with fish! The most common family in coral reefs six stripe sergeants!

Surgeons striped

The fish is called " surgeon" because at the base of its tail there are “surgical instruments” - retractable scalpels - sharp bone plates that the fish uses in case of defense or attack. It would be interesting to see canned food on the store counter with the name “Pickled Surgeon”

Surgeons come in a wide variety of colors and shades. This is the blue white-breasted surgeon

Kabubapennant from the butterfly fish family. I don’t know why it is called “kabuba”, but the pennant is clearly visible on the dorsal fin. The fins of this fish are like the wings of a butterfly. Magic! Beauty! You can’t invent it on purpose, but nature created it! These fish, like women, the more beautiful they are, the more poisonous they are!

Fish-Pscare me. An amazing feature of this fish is that the teeth do not stand separately, but are fused together, so the jaws of this fish are very reminiscent of a bird's beak. In addition, the parrot fish is very brightly colored and beautiful!

Fish-Aangel. These fish lead a solitary lifestyle, never forming large aggregations. No other fish in the world has more incredible combinations of bright colors. Blue, red, emerald, orange, golden yellow, lemon, jet black are just some of the colors that adorn angelfish. There are more than 70 types of angels, I met one of the most beautiful - the Imperial Angel!

I have not yet been able to identify this predator with a red eye.

Curious Arotron(black dot). When a threat arises, the arotron is able to swell and double in size. This occurs due to the intensive ingestion of surrounding water by the fish. When the fish calms down, it releases water and returns to its normal size.

And this Arotron painted, it belongs to the pufferfish. These fish are usually in no hurry because, firstly, they are poisonous, secondly, they can scare a predator by swelling up like a ball (in English they are called puffers), and thirdly, their invertebrate prey is also in no hurry. Pufferfish can swim backwards and also sideways. They remind air balloons, and not because they are round, but because they float as if at the will of the current. Therefore, it is easy to remove them, but almost impossible to hold on to.

This prey is clearly too tough for him - he can’t swallow it, but it’s a pity to throw it away!

Needle from the family SVISTULKOVSX. (Fistulariidae) The body of the whistlers is very elongated and flattened. The snout is long and tubular, used by the fish like a very effective pipette to capture food. By alternately expanding and narrowing its snout, the whistle fish quickly draws small animals on which it feeds into its mouth.

Close-up fish-whistle. These fish always attract attention with their unusual appearance - long, up to one and a half meters, with huge jaws, leisurely swimming near the corals. Their names in different languages indicate their similarity to wind instruments: in Russian it is flute fish, in English - cornet.

Sea snake - ringed flattail. The body of the snake has a bright bluish background, along which wide black rings alternate. The ventral side is painted in lighter bluish-yellow tones. This snake in large quantities Found on coral reefs and in the surf. Stylish and super poisonous! The venom of this beauty is several times more toxic than any of the most powerful venom of a land snake. However, the Ringed Flattail is very peaceful and will only bite in self-defense if you try to step on it!

Stone fishorDevil's scorpionfish. Very dangerous and poisonous. There is no antidote. It is difficult to notice, since it is very similar to stone and inconspicuously colored. It camouflages well and is rare. The back of the stone fish is decorated with 13 spines. Sensing danger, she raises her thorns. As soon as you accidentally touch such a pebble, the fish immediately sticks its fin spines, which contain poisonous glands. Every year in Australia alone, more than 120 people die from the poison of this fish.

stingray. Armed and dangerous! He really didn’t like flash photography, and after the third shot he started attacking me and I had to retreat. Most likely it was a female individual, and she simply did not have time to clean herself up and prepare for the photo shoot.

Tanya wants to feed the moray eel

And this is Tanya running away from the moray eel

The ocean is a rich underwater world, with its laws, treasures and inhabitants. He still remains a mystery to humanity. Diving into the depths of the sea, we discover the incredible beauty and mystery of the ocean. The underwater world is beautiful, underwater, hidden from human eyes, a mysterious and amazing life is seething.
Diving or scuba diving is in great demand among thrill-seekers. Today, everyone, a healthy person, can go scuba diving and feel like an explorer depths of the sea or an adventurer. If a person has basic knowledge and skills, he will be able to scuba dive relatively safely and simply, but he will also need to have additional equipment.

Diving is rapidly gaining a leading position. Many seaside resorts have diving centers where tourists can rent any equipment and learn scuba diving.
Diving includes elements of sport and risk, as well as a certain educational interest. For amateur tourists to search for treasures and sunken ships, underwater tourism with an archaeological bias is developing. IN Mediterranean countries, there are many ruins in the coastal waters ancient cities, the remains of sunken ships.
Underwater tourism is gaining more and more popularity, especially in tropical countries. The main goal is photo hunting, spearfishing, exploring the underwater world, collecting pearls, shells, and marine organisms. Tourists are attracted by the coral reefs of the Florida coast, the reefs of the Caribbean Sea, the atolls of Oceania, and the Red Sea is very popular for diving. With its warm and clear waters.

Underwater stained glass windows have been specially created for tourists who cannot go underwater with scuba gear. They are located in the bottom of ships and in the underground part of buildings located in the coastal zone. There are short trips on tourist, comfortable submarines.
It is useless to describe the beauty of the underwater world; it is better to see it with your own eyes. Having plunged into the silent, amazing, underwater kingdom once, you will be drawn back, again and again.

Theoretically, you can scuba dive in any body of water. But not everywhere diving will be interesting. The rich underwater world is a distinctive quality of many seas. The diversity of marine flora and fauna in southern regions. As for rivers and lakes, they are, as a rule, of no interest to diving enthusiasts.

Which seas and oceans have the most beautiful underwater world?

Of course, the Red Sea is distinguished by a wide variety of flora and fauna. Its waters are home to more than 1,000 species of fish and more than 130 species of coral. Coral reefs stretch along the Red Sea coastline for hundreds of kilometers.

Diving in this sea can be done at any time of the year. That is why divers from all over the world come to relax in the resorts of Egypt and Israel. The water in the Red Sea is always quite warm. Even in winter its temperature does not drop below +18°C. And in summer the water warms up to +25...+28оС. For those who are scuba diving for the first time, diving in Egypt will give unforgettable experience.

Great places for diving there is in the Caribbean, which is part of the Atlantic Ocean. However, unlike Egypt, a vacation in the Caribbean is a very expensive pleasure. Caribbean is located in a tropical climate zone, so many of its inhabitants are heat-loving endemics and are not able to survive in other bodies of water. The average annual temperature of the surface layers of water in the Caribbean Sea is +23…+28оС.

Quite interesting scuba diving in the Atlantic Ocean up close Canary Islands. In the coastal waters of the Atlantic you can see stingrays, moray eels, barracudas, groupers, tuna, octopus, squid, lobsters, lobsters and cuttlefish. Diving in the Atlantic Ocean is only possible in the absence of strong storms. Due to the cold currents, even in summer you should dive in a wetsuit.

Diving in Thailand

Some diving enthusiasts prefer to relax in Thailand. The diving season in the Andaman Sea lasts from November to May. This is due to the fact that in other months visibility under water is significantly worse. And in the eastern part of the Gulf of Thailand you can scuba dive at any time of the year.

In the Andaman Sea, divers can see stingrays, octopuses, whale sharks, and moray eels. There are coral reefs in the Gulf of Thailand, but what attracts divers most is not the corals, but the opportunity to see sunken cargo ships. To admire the ships overgrown with algae, divers go to the Pattaya area and dive into the waters of Koh Tao.
