The city lies on the ruins of the ancient port of Telmes, which existed from the 5th-4th centuries BC. and destroyed by an earthquake in 1857. Once upon a time, Alexander the Great and Nearchus visited here, but the city received its modern name in honor of a pilot named Fethi Bey.

Buses run every hour and make three stops along the way in Olympos, Kas and Kalan. This route, running along the coast, is the most picturesque route from Fethiye to Antalya. There is another road passing through the center of the region. Driving along it will be faster, but much less attractive. The 220-kilometer journey will cost 9 euros and take about 4-5 hours.

To the east of the center of Fethiye, on Atatürk Caddesi Street, there is a bus station from which you can get to the nearest beaches or settlements. The minibus will take you to Gocek, Hisarenu, Ovacik, Kemer, Tlos Bay and Oludeniz.

Fethiye beaches

All beaches in Fethiye are sandy and not very wide. They are municipal, not owned by any hotel. Where the hotel line ends, the wide one begins sand spit, creating a bay closed from currents and winds in which you can swim all year round. This beach is called Turtle Island because you can often find turtles grazing here. Its second name is Cleopatra Beach.

Along the coastline towards the south you can find narrow strips of sandy beaches. The Blue Lagoon of Oludeniz is located right there, ten kilometers from Fethiye, at the foot of the Lycian Mountains. The name of the bay in which Oludeniz is located translates as “Dead Sea” - it really has healing properties. Here you can find young people on vacation who prefer beach holiday with kiting or parasailing.

Since its founding, the city changed its name three times, until in 1934 it received modern name in honor of military pilot Fethi Bey.

The city is not too big, its population is just over 80 thousand inhabitants, but in the summer it becomes more lively due to the influx of tourists.

Those who are tired of the bustle of the city and noisy crowded resorts and seek quiet walks and solitude prefer to come here.

The resort is secretly divided into 2 halves - one of them is given over to luxury luxury hotels with private beaches, and the other for more budget holiday and shopping. Admire the photos of Fethiye Turkey below.

Weather

Despite the fact that in summer the temperature is close to +32-35, the heat is not felt so much due to the proximity of the Aegean Sea and refreshing breeze. From strong winds the city is protected by mountains.

The hottest months are July and August (+32-35), more comfortable in June and September (+27-30). Winters are mild, temperatures range from +14 to +20.

Fethiye Turkey - the pearl of a coastal holiday Mediterranean Sea. The resort is located in the southwest of Turkey at the foot of the Lycian Mountains. The pine and cedar forests that seem to hang over the ancient city give this region a special charm. If we take the distance from Fethiye to Istanbul, then tourists will have to overcome 804 km, to the resort of Antalya - only 197 km, and to Bodrum - 235 km.

Fethiye is indicated on the map of Turkey in Russian. The climate of the resort is Mediterranean. But it is much better here than in Antalya and other resorts in Turkey. The reason is the mountains and forests that surround the city, thereby creating a special microclimate. The humidity here is low, so the heat can be tolerated very easily. Best place Can't find one for a family holiday.

Fethiye in Turkey

From the history

In ancient times, the Turkish city of Fethiye (see description of the resort below) was a town of the Lycian kingdom called Telmes. According to legend, it was formed as a result of the passionate love of the god Apollo and the king’s daughter Finike. At that time the city was economically and culturally developed. It was visited by great people such as Alexander the Great, Cleopatra, Anthony and many others. It was the center of ancient culture. Great architectural monuments have survived to this day. In 1934, the city of Telmes was renamed in honor of the outstanding Turkish pilot Fethi Bey, who made the first flight. They still fly here today. Paragliding is especially developed, since the gentle slopes of the mountains allow even inexperienced “pilots” to take off and see the beauty of the historical and resort city.

For lovers active rest who do not like to sit within four walls, there are many historical attractions. The ancient city of Telmessos stood for thousands of years and preserved the culture of that time for our ancestors. Over the centuries, the city was destroyed by earthquakes. But even they could not wipe out the ancient Roman theater and the knight's castle from the face of the Earth. A great place for a family walk with children. This adventure will remain in the children's memory for the rest of their lives.

On a note! There is a museum of ancients in Fethiye archaeological finds which is a must visit. And who wants to see the ruins of Lycian cities, you can go to Xanthos and Tlos, just 50 km from Fethiye.

A trip to the ancient city of Tlos can be diluted with a “drop” of extreme sports. Take the kids to Saklikent Canyon, where there is a narrow path through an overhanging gorge. The impressions are unforgettable. Not far from the canyon there is a trout farm, where tourists will be treated to fresh fish.

Additional Information! For thrill-seekers, there is the Goynuk Canyon near the city of Kemer. You will have to overcome narrow gorges, and sometimes water obstacles in the form of small rivers and streams. Any tourist will be delighted with what he sees.

It should be noted that these historical places are more suitable for schoolchildren. But there is one for kids incredible place, which is called an ecopark. It is located in the city of Tekirova. What is there: prehistoric lizards and lizards, crocodiles, huge turtles and many other animals. Your baby will be very interested.

For those who love healing hot springs, you can go to Pamukkale. Very interesting place. Distance from Fethiye - 233 km. You can go by car or bus. The scenery during the trip is magnificent.

The beaches in Fethiye are quite narrow, but long. The infrastructure here is not very well developed. Only a couple of them can boast “ blue flag" Almost all beaches have cafes, showers and toilets. But they may be very far from the places where tourists sunbathe. Therefore, it is recommended to take a bottle of water with you.

It is worth paying a little attention to Oludeniz Lagoon. It is located just 15 km from Fethiye. Unusual and a nice place. Incredibly clean, transparent and slightly bluish water. It is better to take currency with you to Turkey, because Russian rubles are difficult to exchange. Another advantage of a trip to Fethiye, Turkey, is the economic crisis. But it is beneficial for those who come there on vacation. After all, prices for services remain in lira, but tourists bring dollars. Now, for the same amount, they receive more services or purchase more goods.

You should always be on alert, beware of suspicious persons, do not get involved in fights or other unpleasant situations, and everything will be fine. Have a nice holiday!

Friends, good health to everyone!

While trends among the masses aimed at acquiring the next conditional “beads” are being promoted with merciless frenzy, you and I continue to revolve around the globe in search of comfortable and decent places to relax.

This section and a fragment of my personal life are dedicated to Turkey, so we will continue to talk about its cities and resorts.

You can restore the material you have covered using archival records. Well, we, having already appeared in Marmaris, will take apart yet another stunning Mediterranean resort, Fethiye.

As always, the sea useful information: hotels, cafes, prices, beaches, attractions. Of course, there will be advice that will save you a lot of time and nerves , as well as wasted funds.

In general, don’t go into the water without knowing the ford or at least the content of this article. Let's find Fethiye together on the map of Turkey and sketch out a plan for our vacation.

Fethiye is the first big resort in the Mediterranean Sea, who takes over the watch from his colleagues from the Aegean region. The conventional border of the two seas can be called a semicircle that passes through the islands of Crete and Rhodes and abuts on the territory of Turkey in Dalaman airport .

This airport, approximately equidistant from Marmaris and Fethiye, works on 2 fronts at once, ensuring a stable flow of tourists to charter flights“both yours and ours.”

We looked at Marmaris. But Fethiye, which is separated from Marmaris by 130 km, is a completely different story.

Distance to the nearest resorts:

  • Bodrum – 230 km
  • Marmaris – 130 km
  • Pamukkale – 200 km
  • Antalya – 200 km
  • Kas – 100 km

Dalaman Airport is only 40 km away.

What do agents usually tell tourists?

  • It is very hot in here
  • No city beach
  • Full of tattooed Englishmen and pensioners
  • Not a large selection of all-inclusive hotels and they are located outside the city gates

But what they forget to tell them is that it’s a chic, environmentally friendly resort, after a holiday at which you will completely change not only your idea of Turkey, but also your worldview!

Are you ready for this? If yes, then let’s go with you and answer all the above questions about beaches, hotels and entertainment in Fethiye.

First, let's look at Fethiye from above, and then delve into the details.

Climate at the resort

It should be borne in mind that Fethiye already has a purely Mediterranean climate: hot summers and warm, but sometimes rainy winters. Although there is still less rainfall here than on the Aegean coast.

Despite the fact that Fethiye itself is located in a bay, protected from the winds and a sharp change in climate and surrounded by cedar and pine forests and mountains, softening the temperature and heat; at the height of the season it is quite hot here.

I wouldn’t recommend going here with children in July or August, but it’s gorgeous at any other time of the year.

Many foreigners come here for the winter and travel around the region to their heart's content. I would do the same, given the beautiful deserted beaches, evergreen islands, blue lagoons and average winter temperatures of +10.

You can start swimming here already at May holidays and not go ashore until the beginning of November. And, if you work on yourself and your goals, then take over April and November.

Tours in Fethiye

So, what do we have at the start? Fethiye is suitable for those who love a respectable holiday away from the bustle of the city and traditional Turkish bazaars, night discos and barkers in the spirit of “Brother, it’s very cheap. Let's! Try it!

Families, elderly and wealthy Europeans come here. Adventure lovers relax here, using Fethiye as a well-located transshipment base.

Why among fans independent travel Am I bringing up the topic of tours? Because it’s not a fact that going on your own will always be cheaper.

BUT! Under no circumstances would I order all-inclusive and excursions from hotels. You won’t see Turkey, and you won’t taste normal food. Well, those who pay $2,000 for a tour and eat delicacies don’t read my blog.

Based on this, we have 2 types of tours:

  • Trips to luxury hotels all-inclusive with its own beaches, club areas and taxi boats to different parts of the region
  • Trips to simple hotels 3-4 stars urban type with swimming pools, but without beaches.

1st order tours will cost more than a similar holiday in the Antalya area.

But, if you look at photographs of the territories and views of such five-star hotels as Lykia World Olüdeniz, Sentido Likya Resort or Hillside Beach, then you will understand why.

I wrote about how to buy tours to Turkey yourself cheaper than at a travel agency.

Here you can really relax, like in a fairy tale, without having to fly to some tropical island. In addition, civilization and the city itself will not be that far from your dining room.

well and additional features do yachting or paragliding They will definitely turn your head.

To save money, you can take a trip to an inexpensive hotel in the city and ride on the hotel transfer or on your own to the beaches and attractions located around you.

The only negative is that most hotels are not yet ready to work with the Russian-speaking population, so basic knowledge of English is necessary.

How to get to Fethiye – airports and transfers

If no one presented you with a transfer service, then you can get from Dalaman airport either by regular bus companies Havatas(23 liras and 1 hour journey), or order a car in advance via Kiwi-Taxi.

Considering the distance of 40 km and the presence in your team more people than the average resident of the European part of Russia, ordering a taxi via the Internet will look like a reasonable decision.

Firstly, it will not be more expensive than a local taxi, and secondly, you know in advance the cost of the trip for your calculations and what you will be greeted with in a foreign country. Thirdly, there is no need to point the taxi driver at the map on his phone, reinforcing the misunderstanding with a vinaigrette of phrases: “Bak! Bak!”, understand and “I’m explaining to you for the third time.”

In addition, you can even make a knight’s move right at the airport rent yourself a car for the entire vacation. If you are afraid of getting bored or left without a means of transportation in such a unique and interesting region, then rental offices are your solution.

Official website of Dalaman Airport - dalaman.dhmi.gov.tr.Official website of the transport company Havashavas.net. I wrote how to get to Dalaman airport from Russia or Ukraine

Turkey also has a superbly developed bus service, so feel free to consider this option as an alternative to local flights. For example, from Antalya a bus to Fethiye takes 3.5 hours.

How to get around the city

The challenge of navigating this small-looking town becomes a full-blown challenge as soon as you begin to study the state of affairs with the beaches.

In the very center of the city there is everything you want, except the beach itself.

The nearest beach from Fethiye to the north is Calis (5 km from the center) and to the south is Oludeniz (13 km). And how many of them are still in the area - you can only write this down in a notebook, and not rely on memory.

It is precisely for the sake of communication between the remarkable center and the beach periphery that you will need minibuses.

To begin with, here is a map with bus stations and main dolmus stops in Fethiye for reference:

Fethiye bus stations

The city has 1 intercity bus station (blue) and 2 dolmus bus stations. One for minibuses around the city (orange) and one for minibuses to Oludeniz, Hisarnya, Ovacik and Kayaköy (green).

You need to get to the intercity bus station to go further to Antalya, Marmaris, Pamukkale or to the beaches of Kaputas and Patara. Dolmus go here from the center of Fethiye from the indicated bus station with a sign Otogar on the windshield.

If, on the contrary, you arrived at the bus station and you need to go to the center of Fethiye or Oludeniz, then the map shows 2 stops (pink) on opposite sides. Choose the one you need.

Pay attention to this guy. His job is to make sure you get on the right bus. He steers the process like a good DJ, and the main thing is for you to tell Magic word— the name of your destination.

2 bus stations are located closer to the center and the yacht marina than the bus station and are located 50m from each other. The landmark will be the White Mosque.

Below is a station for minibuses to the bus station and Caliş beach, and above for those departing towards Olüdenız.

Notice another stop on the map (pink) that I put in the city center. Here you can intercept any minibus going to the bus station or Oludeniz. It may be more convenient for you to sit here than at the terminus.

Dolmusi in Fethiye

There are 2 minibuses running around the city of Fethiye from the center to Calis beach:

  1. The first along the embankment with a sign Sahılınden and is used as the shortest transfer to the beach area. It takes 25 minutes to get to the beach from the center.
  2. The second one goes to the bus station Otogar and circles slightly around the city. She has a home port on the windshield Günlükbaşi. It takes about 35 minutes to get to the beach.

Both routes start around 06.45 and with an interval of 10-15 minutes complete the travel schedule until midnight.

In addition to them, other shuttle buses run from the mentioned dolmus bus stations to neighboring towns and villages.

Please note that these bus stations are located 1-1.5 km from the yacht marina and Fethiye port. If you need to go there, then you will be interested in the inscriptions on the glass of minibuses.

  • Karagözler is the port area of Fethiye
  • Aksazlar beach is the name of the beach, which is located on the peninsula at the end of the yacht club

How much does it cost to travel to Fethiye?

Travel to dolmus in Fethiye has become more expensive and now costs 3.25/2.75 adult/school. If you plan to stay here for a long time, you can buy a local card like this.

The card costs about 6 liras, and the savings are 0.50-1.50 liras on each trip. As in Istanbul, you can buy one card per family and use it one at a time.

If you need to get from Fethiye to Oludeniz, the fare will cost 6.25 liras for adults and 4.50 for schools. Children under 6 years old are free.

Below you can see the prices for travel between neighboring villages for the summer of 2019:

Water taxi

Imagine, in order to get to Calis Beach from the Fethiye embankment, you can jump not into a minibus, but into a water taxi. And in half an hour it will easily take you to the parking lot in the water canal, next to the beach.

The water taxi starts its journey quite late: at 10:00 the first taxi leaves from the center and at 10:30 from Calis. They run along the route until 20:00 and the fare costs 10 lira. During high season, the schedule may change.

Boat stop in the center next to the park with back side Migros supermarket. And parking pleasure boats from the side of Calis beach, located in the canal next to the hotel Kerim Hotel.

In addition to your walking abilities and taxis, you can also rely on bicycles in Fethiye (rental is about 30 liras per day).

5 star hotels, apartments and simple hotels

Everyone chooses their own level of relaxation according to their means and thoughts. What makes Turkey unique is that there is no layer cake, like in Cancun, Mexico, or the Dominican Republic, where local residents and their hovels are beyond the perimeter of luxury and wealth.

In Turkey, a union of luxury and poverty is quite possible - you can swim together on the same beach. Well, won't they give you a sunbed and a towel with the hotel logo on it?

Luxury hotels

Fethiye has a lot to offer for those who want to relax on a grand scale. Top 5 hotels where you will be made to love Turkey))

It's worth knowing that most of luxury hotels are located outside the city. Since the Russian client is new to them, not everywhere you will find Russian-speaking staff and the usual “ultra all-inclusive” system for the Antalya region.

Although, I see only advantages for children if they start communicating with foreigners at such a young age.

  1. Sentido Lykia Resort & SPA 5*- a huge hotel complex with green territory. It is worth knowing that the hotel is aimed at holidays without children.
  2. Liberty Hotels Lykia 5*– A luxury hotel for a family holiday. Located next to the previous hotel and there is the possibility of free movement between them
  3. Jiva Beach Resort 5* - a fresh and modern hotel near Calis beach in Fethiye with European comfort.
  4. Barut Fethiye Sensatori 5*— a comfortable hotel for a family holiday and relatively inexpensive.
  5. Hillside Beach 5*- one of best hotels Fethiye for families with children. Accommodation in separate cottages.

Confident averages

If your goal is to relax in a hotel with children, but without debts and loans, then pay attention to these options:

  1. Akdeniz Beach Hotel 3* — located on a cozy area in Oludeniz, on the 2nd line from the sea. 3 meals a day, but without animation, as in 5-days.
  2. Alesta Yacht Hotel 4*— a 5-minute walk from the center of Fethiye, but you Buffet and all kinds of spas.

Apartments in Fethiye

Basically, for a comfortable and inexpensive holiday Nothing better than apartments has yet been invented. If you have your own kitchen nearby, you can always please yourself with inexpensive culinary delights. And with the accommodation of 1-2 children there will be no problems, additional payments and disputes with the hotel administration regarding the age of the child and cribs.

If you don’t take tiny studios of 15 square meters, then there will be enough space in the resort apartment for everyone.

Where did we live

This time we stayed at Kordon Appartment. The owner Fernando, half Turkish and half Italian, was at his best, and his apartments are masterpieces of design art. From the panoramic windows we had a view of the yacht marina. And for everything about everything 27 euros per day!

If suddenly there are no apartments available for your dates, then here are a couple more worthy options for you to consider:

  1. Dove Apart Hotel l excellent villa with pool near Calis beach
  2. Milkyway Apart & Hotels is a chic and inexpensive hotel with a swimming pool, but, of course, not right by the sea.
  3. Magic Tulip Hotel - this option, although a little more expensive, is already a 3-minute walk from Oludeniz beach.

If your budget is crying like a cat, and you don’t want to live in Papa Carlo’s closet 2 hours drive from the sea, then book the El Camino Pub&Hostel. Comfortable, fun, and what a gorgeous view of the sea from here!

Food: cafes and restaurants

Fethiye differs favorably from Marmaris in that there are no special restaurant streets where you are attacked as a victim. Walking through such lively areas, I develop an inferiority complex.

As if I have to eat and eat tirelessly, just to make the owners happy.

When you modestly order fish and shrimp with salad for two from them, they look at you like you’re a girl, and certainly intend to feed you almost with their own hands according to your mother’s “first-second-compote” scheme.

This is easier in Fethiye. By the way, here are the prices of some restaurants:

During lunch hours, a very popular fast food cafe is Limon H20. It was recommended to us by our owner Fernando as a quick solution to a daily problem. Indeed, the place is lively. At lunchtime all tables summer garden We were busy and we managed to replace ourselves with a Turkish family who had just risen from the table.

The prices are average, the dishes are tasty and beautiful. This is not the height of dreams, but good value for money. The cafe is located next to the Migras supermarket near the yacht club.

The three of us had lunch for 70 liras. We took pizza, kebab, soup, salad, beans and bread with drinks.

Where else to eat in Fethiye

Along the yacht moorings themselves there is a scattering of creative restaurants with views of the yachts. I won’t tell you which one to choose, since I haven’t tasted it myself.

The second center of attraction for knife and fork club members is located along the embankment. Here you will find tea shops, inexpensive buffets, and fish restaurants. I think you will make a choice at a distance of about 3 km. Tea or coffee, balyk ekmek (fish in bread) and a gorgeous view from a chair right at the water’s edge - what could be better?

By the way, for the sake of the British, the Turks made a deal with their conscience and now everywhere they offer English breakfast or “death to the stomach,” as I call them. After such a hellish mixture of everything and everyone, you won’t want to move at all. Price is about 25-30 liras.

But if you step back a little from the embankment, you can find inexpensive eateries like these. I think you have 10 liras for lunch))

Shops and markets

Markets in Fethiye, where you can buy everything from food to clothes in the old fashioned way, as throughout Turkey, operate strictly on schedule. The market in Fethiye itself is open on Tuesdays and Fridays in the morning, in the Calis area - on Sundays.

If you are not fed to slaughter in hotels where “everything is possible,” then remember this schedule.

At the market you can buy delicious vegetables, fruits, olives and cheeses cheaply. The rest of the ingredients for a tasty and nutritious life can be purchased in supermarkets Migros, Kipa, Sok, of which there are enough in any area.

It's hard for me to say anything about shopping. On the streets there are many small shops with cheap knitwear and small outlets from LC Waikiki, De Facto etc.

Directly opposite the bus station building there is a relatively large shopping mall. Money can be changed in banks or small shops.

Fish market

What's the trick, brother?

A completely secret place that cannot be reached at a glance, but only on a tip - this is the fish market and the restaurants located around it.

We got here in the evening, again on a tip from our apartment owner.

In the center of the market there are stalls selling live fish and seafood. Along the perimeter there are colorful tables and chairs from several restaurants. The place is lively and quite large . In addition to tourists, there are many locals here, and their dining style is radically different from ours.

First, you circle around the trays of fresh fish and choose the one that looks into your eyes.

The establishment of mutual contact is hampered by sellers who grab these “beauties” by the gills and immediately throw them on the scales without your consent. Prices are about 25-35 liras per kg of tasty fish and 30-40 liras for large shrimp.

Our catch for dinner

Having made 2 circles clockwise, we found a portly Dorado and large shrimp. The entire purchase cost 40 lire.

They say that you can choose the restaurant where all this will be prepared for you, but the seller himself indicated to us the place from where the prepared catch will be taken out.

Armed with glasses of beer and patience, we began to wait for the climax of the evening. From time to time, waiters distracted us by bringing their trays with a large selection of appetizers under their noses. There are no appetizers, but 10 liras for a small plate.

Seeing our disregard for their work, they lost interest in us.

On the table there were sliced bread, still water and a large salad bowl with assorted vegetables. About 20 minutes later our catch was brought, but already fried and baked.

We ordered a grilled version of fish and shrimp with some sauce. The fish was tasty, but the shrimp and sauce were divine.

At the restaurant we paid 20 liras for a beer and 10 liras for the preparation of each dish and 15 liras for a large green salad. As a result, for 2 people we got 130 liras and a delicious and unusual dinner (Water and bread are included in 10 liras for preparation).

This is not how Turkish families eat at all. Here you will find an aperitif, a digestif, crayfish, wine, tea, and even sweets. We only feed this way at weddings. I can imagine what their bill was for the holiday (I hope) dinner.

The market is open seven days a week and somehow reminded me of the Kumkapi region.

Parking in Fethiye

In Fethiye, and even in Oludeniz, parking is not so simple.

Along the Fethiye promenade there are small pockets where you can park your car. When it comes to street parking, almost everything here is paid. If you live in an apartment in the center of Fethiye, then look for secure parking. We found one of these right near the marina.

Payment there is hourly, and there is per day. I don’t remember the tariffs anymore (like 7 lire for up to 3 hours of parking), but in general it’s cheaper than parking the car by the road.

We arrived on a weekend and the owner of our apartment, Fernando, said that we were in Acquarta steel on bus stop (I later found the letter D under the car). Later I corrected the situation, but not completely.

I parked my car opposite, and parking there is only allowed during non-working hours and on weekends. On Monday, the car had to be removed before 7.00, otherwise a fine could be added to the expenses.

Good to know

What captivates Fethiye is the absence of any large-scale development. In Marmaris, for example, you simply cannot see the sea because of the reinforced concrete bodies of “terry” hotels.

In Fethiye, a few blocks from the sea, all the houses and shops are low-growing, with green lawns around them and wide roads on which rarely anyone drives.

On the other hand, Fethiye is by no means a village, which may suggest itself as a conclusion.

Well, somehow they manage not to “take possession of the funds” and not drive out an apartment building or a shopping center that obscures the horizon.

Well done, in general! I was very pleased))

Friends, that's all for today. Let's take a short break before we talk about the beaches, attractions and excursions around Fethiye.
