Snorkeling in Indonesia. Amed is a snorkeler's paradise on the east coast of Bali. Fishing in Bali snorkeling: enthusiastic hunting underwater

Snorkeling is a great alternative to diving. Not everyone can bring themselves to dive to the bottom of the ocean to explore the underwater world. But snorkeling on the surface is a completely different matter. The rich underwater world of the Bali Sea and Indian Ocean has created many places in Bali that meet the needs of divers and snorkelers. Scientists say that the territory of the island, like all of Indonesia, is part of the coral triangle. Consequently, this opens up wide opportunities for studying underwater flora and fauna.

Due to its rich natural potential, the island of Bali allows many ideas and plans to come true. Most tourists have heard of it as a surfing spot. However, the resort has many places suitable for snorkeling. Some of the most popular include:

Tulamben

The place is especially popular. First of all, it is famous for the fact that it is here that you can see the sunken ship of America from World War II, which tried to pass through the Lombok Strait. It is located at a depth of 30 meters. In the dry season, when the water is highly transparent, you can even see it from the surface. Only experienced divers can dive to the vessel due to the great depth. Today the ship is an artificial reef, overgrown with magnificent corals on all sides. Locals agreed not to fish in these places, due to which the species and number of underwater inhabitants increased significantly.

Another great place for scuba diving in these places - Coral Garden. It originates almost at the very shore. It is a combination of reefs and corals. Here you can find barracuda, moray eel, octopus, squid and more.

Pemuteran

This bay is known to many as the place from where speed boats depart for Menjangan. Some tourists do not even realize that one of the most interesting projects in Bali is located here - Biorok, or as it can also be called an “artificial reef”. It consists of cement, which in turn creates a favorable habitat for representatives of marine fauna.

Biorock is helping to restore the fish population in Pemuteran. It is not uncommon to spot sea turtles or reef sharks here. There have been cases when a whale shark swam to the shore.

Amed

This popular resort Bali. People come here not only for snorkeling, but also for beach holiday. In Lipah Bay there is a magnificent reef with rich flora and fauna. A patrol boat that sank during World War II adds to the popularity of the place. Due to the fact that it lies at a depth of 6 meters, it can be clearly seen even from the surface of the water. Over time, the ship became covered with corals, among which live squids, octopuses, and colorful fish.

There are almost never strong waves or undercurrents in the bay, so both beginners and professionals can snorkel. It is so safe here that even having a guide is not a requirement.

Another perfect place– Dzhemeluk Bay. Due to the transparency of the water, visibility in the sea reaches several tens of meters. This makes it possible to see the underwater world even at a depth of 20-22 meters.

Padang Bai

It is located in the east of the island. Here, first of all, I would like to mention the Blue Lagoon, which attracts fans of snorkeling and diving. The place is popular due to its convenient location; you can get to it from Padang Padwng Beach in a maximum of 5 minutes. It is famous for its small reef with a huge amount all kinds of coral fish. The calm sea allows even beginners to snorkel. In the lagoon you can feed the fish; they are already so accustomed to this procedure that they swim up to tourists without any fear.

Tanjung Benoa

The beach is located a little north of Nusa Dua. The purest sand and azure water attract a huge number of tourists here. Located not far from the shore coral reef– a great place to get acquainted with the underwater world of the resort. The absence of waves allows both beginners and professionals to snorkel.

Nearest islands for snorkeling

If all the main snorkeling spots in Bali have been explored, then you can go to explore the underwater world on one of the nearby islands:

Nusa Penida

The place is famous for the fact that only here you can see manta rays at any time. Underwater inhabitants of enormous size emerge from the depths and at the same time show their friendliness and curiosity. They rise almost to the surface of the water, making it possible not only to watch them, but also to swim with them. However, do not try to touch them with your hands. Not because they are dangerous, but because it can scare them away, as a result of which snorkeling in these places will be completely different.

Nusa Lembongan

The island attracts with its northern part, where mangroves are concentrated. The current here is slightly less, therefore the level of safety increases. The cluster of mangrove trees attracts a huge number of fry. This is a kind of transition zone before they end up on the reef. You have hardly seen such an abundance of fish in other places; each of them is striking in its shape and color.

Please note that Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida are famous for their strong underwater currents, so swimming in these places must be done with extreme caution, and preferably under the supervision of an experienced instructor.

Nusa Ceningan

The island is located near Bali. Coastline stores a lot of interesting things under water. Here you can not only explore the corals, but also get acquainted with the rich underwater world. Not long ago, a diving school began operating on the island, where you can get all the essential equipment for snorkeling.

Menjagan

The island is located on the coast of the Barat National Park. There are very few tourists here and in vain. Pos Dua Reef is the most famous position, as visibility underwater in this place reaches 40 meters. It is located near the beach. Moving away from the shore, the reef turns into a real canyon, the walls of which are covered with hard corals. Among them live thousands of small fish of the most varied colors.

Another interesting place on the island there is a Coral Garden. Located in the northwest, it is perfect for both beginners and those who have been snorkeling for many years. It originates at a depth of 5 meters, where it is covered with thousands of anemones. Sometimes tuna, reef sharks or stingrays are found on the reef. Menjagan Island is the best place to watch sea turtles.

Required Equipment

What you need to have with you to go snorkeling:

  1. Mask with snorkel. It is necessary to select it according to your size, otherwise you will feel some discomfort. Place the mask on your face and make a deep entrance. If, after releasing her with your hands, she continues to hold on, then you have chosen the right option.
  2. Flippers. They greatly facilitate movement in the water. Even short fins are suitable for snorkeling; you put them directly on your bare feet.
  3. A wetsuit is not a requirement. But in order not to get sunburned, it is better to have one or swim in a T-shirt.

Prices

The cost of snorkeling directly depends on the place where you want to swim. If you decide to explore the underwater world near your hotel, then all you need to do is pay for the rental equipment. If you have your own, then swimming will be completely free for you.

The minimum cost of a tour with an instructor is $40. For this price, you will be taken by speedboat to several remote places from the coast. Quite often, snorkeling trips are combined with diving. Some people dive with scuba gear, while others are content with just floating above the water.

To make your acquaintance with the underwater world as safe as possible and bring a lot of positive emotions, do not forget to follow a few tips:

  1. Have travel insurance. You can purchase it on the website (there should be a separate column “insurance for active species rest") or immediately before the dive. You should not ignore this point, as the ocean is full of surprises and, if necessary, health care, then without insurance it will cost a lot.
  2. Before swimming in any new place, you should receive a short briefing. Pay attention to it, as each point may have certain surprises. For example, sudden changes in depth, strong underwater currents, the presence of poisonous underwater inhabitants, low tides, etc.
  3. Don't forget about quality snorkeling equipment. A mask with a snorkel, fins, and a life jacket will help you observe the underwater world. Do not forget that you will be floating on the surface of the water, therefore, the possibility of getting burned increases significantly. Be sure to use sunscreen or wear a light T-shirt. It is not necessary to buy snorkeling equipment; it can be rented at a diving center or hotel. Approximate cost: 5 to 10 dollars. If you buy a tour, the equipment will be included in the price.
  4. Remember that snorkeling is all about observing flora and fauna. Don't touch anything with your hands. Corals break easily and you can cut yourself on them. Do not touch the jellyfish that swim near you, they can sting. Some fish are poisonous and leave unpleasant burns. In some places feeding fish is allowed, but this is advised by instructors.

Snorkeling is a truly amazing activity that can easily turn into a hobby. With a simple mask and snorkel you can see the fascinating underwater world and even become part of it for a moment.

Snorkeling - swimming with mask and fins

Snorkeling in Bali is one of the most popular types of fishing in Bali, and for some reason tourists from Russia are simply “rave” and “sick” about it. We have not yet understood the reason for this phenomenon, but the fact that it was high time to devote our own individual article to this species, we realized this a long time ago and today we do it with great pleasure for you, tourists from Russia. And from the CIS too, after all, we come from the same “history - the country of the Soviets”...

Snorkeling (or Snorkelling), although it comes from the English word “Snorkeling”, which means swimming and fishing underwater with a mask, snorkel and fins. But our fathers and grandfathers have been involved in this “business” for a long time. Remember the famous Soviet film comedy “The Diamond Arm” and a number of other films of those years, and then you will immediately understand why we, it turns out, love this particular type of underwater fishing so much. It's already in our genes, isn't it? Here we have found the first answer to the “riddle” of love Russian tourists to fishing, called snorkeling in Bali.

Almost the entire coastline of the entertainment island is great for this amazing sport - snorkeling or snorkeling Bali. And if we also take into account the pleasant element for many people that spearfishing in Bali practically does not require any special preparation or long training, then it is a pleasure to do it there.

This is what hundreds of thousands of tourists of completely different ages and physical fitness do, and this is interesting to almost all tourists only because the underwater world of Bali is unforgettable experience for life. And, what is also important, snorkeling does not oblige you to hunt fish or other sea creatures, but you can simply admire this underwater perfection, photographing it or recording it on a video camera. This will be your best movie, and your friends will watch it with the same enthusiasm as the newest and most colorful Hollywood film, guaranteed!..

To do this, you need the most basic things that are available everywhere and cost mere pennies, excuse me, rupees. And if you are interested in more than just one question, then go ahead to the breathtaking underwater world of thousands of colors and unique species that you can see only there, without bothering yourself with deep-sea preparation, without exposing yourself to unnecessary danger, and without spending serious money , which requires diving, but not snorkeling Bali!

Those people who have snorkeled in these delightful waters just once fall ill with an incurable “disease”: snorkeling in Bali forever and with the joy of a child. After all, you can snorkel day and night, but at night it’s not just interesting, it’s magical, fabulous and seems unreal! “Daytime fish” simply fade in front of those indescribably beautiful night views that the greenish light of a flashlight illuminates and “catches”: the best masterpieces of nature that exist on the entire planet Earth...

Fishing in Bali snorkeling: enthusiastic hunting underwater

You can even touch sea creatures underwater

Fishing in Bali or spearfishing Bali - snorkeling, which is done with a mask, fins and a snorkel, actually requires very little.

Snorkeling is, in fact, an extremely exciting activity, and what you will learn and see among the countless corals off the island of Bali will amaze even experienced divers. And the reason is that the most beautiful thing under water is not at all in the depths, but on the very surface of the two great oceans of the world. This Bali fishing is an entertainment that simply has no equal in terms of delight and first-hand knowledge of the fairy tales of the underwater kingdom of the island of Bali.
Snorkeling equipment is banal and simple and accessible to everyone:

  • - Mask.
  • - A tube.
  • - Flippers.
  • — Special lycra T-shirt.
  • — If you are not entirely confident in your swimming abilities, then you definitely need a life jacket.
  • - Sunscreen.
  • — “Hunting” equipment. Underwater pistol or small harpoon.
  • — And for those who simply admire the beauty underwater world Take a camera or video camera and place it in a special waterproof box. All.

After you are sure that all the equipment is ready and operational, you must inform the rescue service where you will go for snorkeling and report your maximum stay there. This is very important for your own safety!

But for this, you should already have your complete plan for “exciting fishing” ready. And this is what specific place you are going to. This information can be found on the map: Snorkeling in Bali. Don't be shy about asking your local rescue service for advice. They will definitely tell you the places where it is most beautiful, interesting and, at the same time, completely safe. Where there are no fishing nets, great depths, strong sea currents, places where “surface fishermen” gather, routes for active cruising of high-speed boats, and so on. And remember how twice is two: from your the right choice the best and quiet place for snorkeling will depend on the success and ideal water holiday of the highest pleasure.

And perhaps most important. The degree of risk of snorkeling in the sea or ocean is an order of magnitude higher than the same snorkeling in a lake or even a river. And the majority of tourists who decide to engage in this exciting activity for the first time are simply careless and criminal towards themselves and those people whom they persuaded to go with them.

The most important rule for the safety of snorkeling in the sea or ocean is a correct assessment of your real capabilities, the characteristics of the ocean snorkeling site, knowledge of safety rules, danger from sharp reefs or dangerous fish and animals that live there. Best option For snorkeling beginners, find an experienced, qualified partner who has equipment similar to yours. And if something happens, he will always be able to eliminate any possible danger without panic, or at least reduce its probability to almost absolute zero...

If you have been to the island of Bali before, then you have probably heard the legend that initially this island was created by the gods for their needs and entertainment, and a little later, having become generous or spent a lot on its maintenance, they condescended and decided to open it to mere mortals . It is not surprising that travelers have to pay a hefty “tax” for the opportunity to spend an unforgettable vacation here.

Local residents have long not paid attention to the strange character and behavior of crazy tourists. The Balinese greet everyone, without exception, with a welcoming smile. If you are coming for night entertainment and dancing until the morning, then Kuta is for you. If you prefer luxury holiday and first-class service, then welcome to Nusa Dua. If your children come with you for new emotions, then give preference to Jimbarana.

When to go to Bali

Since there are only two seasons in Bali - rainy and dry, we recommend planning your vacation during the most comfortable season, namely from April to September. Although even those who arrive from October to March cannot hide their delight. Keep in mind that southern beaches during the rainy season they cannot boast of their cleanliness, since the current brings a lot of plastic “surprises” to the coast. Of course, the north and west cannot boast of snow-white sand, here it is mostly black, but there are exceptions if desired. You just need to look.

Things to do in Bali

The most popular activities on the island are, of course, surfing, diving and rafting. Surfing fans prefer the south and east of the island. Here you can rent equipment and get training. Additionally, if this is your only purpose for traveling, I recommend purchasing the Accommodation + Surfing package. This way you can save money on your hobby. For diving, experts go to the east of the island and to the west, to national park Barat. The reefs there are simply mind-blowing.

Fans of rafting will not miss the opportunity and will not deny themselves the pleasure of rafting down the Ayung and Telaga Waja rivers. For such adventures, of course, it is better to fly during the rainy season. “Yohoho” and “Why did I need all this? I’d rather sit at home” - you are guaranteed. You can also meet people here who are passionate about kite and windsurfing, especially in the resort of Sanur. You should not deny yourself the pleasure of taking part in a cycling excursion, fishing, kayaking, underwater walk and elephant ride. For lovers of something like this, we can safely recommend descending into canyons, climbing volcanoes and organized walks into caves.

As you understand, Bali is truly a unique island where dreams come true.

Gili Meno Island

This inconspicuous island is located near Lombok and Bali. There is silence everywhere on Gili Meno. Therefore, this is not a place for fun lovers. But the calm, measured atmosphere of the island will be appreciated by newlyweds, elderly people and those who are bored with hectic city life.

When to go to Gili Meno

To fully enjoy a beach holiday on Gili Meno, it is better to travel between May and October. In November the rains begin, and sometimes there are downpours.

With high humidity, the heat becomes much more difficult for tourists to bear. But it should be noted that the “wet season” is not an obstacle for tourists. More rainfall occurs in the winter months. The rest of the time it rains with noticeable interruptions. Even if it suddenly starts dripping from the sky, the pool will become your best friend at any time.

Things to do on Gili Meno

This island strikes you as “doing nothing.” Everything that can somehow diversify a beach holiday is missing here. Therefore, you need to prepare to either contemplate the serene expanse of water all day long and enjoy the local views, or lie in a hotel. The only “entertainment” available is cycling and horse riding. At times, boredom can be alleviated by sitting in local cafes: they offer impressive views of the blue waves and passing boats. In general, your holiday on Gili Meno will be quiet and serene. It will bring harmony and make you feel like a part of nature untouched by man.

Gili Trawangan Island

Gili Trawangan is the exact opposite of Gili Meno. Trawangan is long and the busiest. There are endless cafes along the embankment. This island does not create the impression of detachment from everything earthly. It is noisy here and there are currently many buildings under construction that spoil the whole “picture”. But if you move away from the beach a few meters closer to the center of the island, you can find quite a lot of housing where you can’t hear wild screams and other people’s laughter.

When to go to Gili Trawangan

The same time as on Gili Meno. These tropical Indonesian islands are located next door. Consequently, the weather conditions there are not particularly different. The period from May to October is the “golden time” to visit the island.

Things to do on Gili Trawangan

There are relatively few things to do on Gili Trawangan, although it is not an island for solitude. There is absolutely no transport here, which makes many tourists incredibly happy. Bicycles and horses are used for transportation. Trawangan is a great place for snorkeling. To ensure that snorkeling does not turn into just looking at the inhabitants of the sea, you should study the species of local marine inhabitants in advance. Then snorkeling is much more interesting, especially for beginners. For lovers of gatherings by the sea, there are cafes where you can have a great “wonder”. You can relax and dream at sunset, each of which on Gili Trawangan stuns with its inimitable magnificence. To capture a sunset that you will never see again in your life, don’t forget your camera.

As many as 70 small islands are still not particularly visited by tourists. Life on the Mentawais flows smoothly. There are no youth parties here, nor the usual restaurants and luxury hotels that can be found at every popular resort. The beauty of the Mentawai Islands is their isolation. Getting to them is not easy, but believe me, the journey is worth it. Once in Mentawai, that same childhood dream comes true when you wanted to become Robinson Crusoe even for a day. When to go to Flores

12 minutes walk from Yungut Batu Beach

Snorkeling(from English snorkeling – swim with a mask) – popular look active rest, which consists of swimming under the surface of the water with a mask and snorkel (sometimes with fins). Very popular among island vacationers. And there is hardly a person who will refuse to dive into the wonderful underwater world when it is right next to you.

Bali is a small part of a huge territory included in the coral triangle.

Coral Triangle – natural object, the “peaks” of which are Borneo, Solomon islands and the Philippines. Scientists from all over the world call this area the “center of marine life.” It is home to more than seventy-five percent of the species of polyps and jellyfish known to science, six of the seven species of sea turtles, 6,000 species of reef fish and more than 3,000 fish that live in the open ocean. Among this diversity there are species that are practically not found in other places, and approximately 80 percent of the inhabitants of these waters are unknown to science. It is home to giant stingrays and eleven species of sharks. Few people know, but the coral triangle is a much more interesting place for divers than the “sensational” Great Barrier Reef off the coast of Australia.

The main destinations for diving and snorkeling in Bali are: Tulamben, Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan islands, Menjangan Island, Amed, artificial reefs in Pemuteran, Padangbai, Seragan Island, Gili Islands.

Tulamben

The main object to see in Tulamben is the sunken American US warship Liberty from World War II war. The ship is located quite close to the surface, and in its vicinity there are a large number of variety of fish, so this place is convenient for snorkeling.

Nusa Islands

The only place near Bali where giant rays are found are manta rays.

Menjangan Island

The island is part of a national park. The name of the island translates as “deer”, as its main inhabitants are deer. The waters around the island are home to a wide variety of marine life: turtles, barracudas, reef sharks, as well as schools of tuna, jackfish, platax, lionfish, scorpionfish and octopus. It is also recommended to see the Garden of the Gods, located 15 minutes away by boat. Menjangan is considered the best place near where you can swim with sea turtles.

Amed

It is considered one of the best places for snorkeling: it is shallow, excellent visibility, a variety of marine life and there are no strong currents.

Pemuteran

A great place to not only admire millions of small fish, but also swim with large sea creatures: sea turtles, stingrays, as well as reef and whale sharks.

Seragan

This place is just a short boat ride from the tourist area. Seragan is a kind of “nursery” for reef sharks, which are mercilessly exterminated by fishermen in pursuit of profit. Here you can swim next to these unusual animals.

In principle, you can snorkel almost anywhere if you want. It is also not difficult to purchase a snorkeling tour and rent simple equipment (at your hotel or any travel agency on the island).

They have always been on the top list of tourists who come to relax in Bali. And snorkeling is no exception. It is rare that a visitor refuses the opportunity to dive into the underwater world and study it from the inside when it is nearby.

What is snorkeling

Snorkeling is a special type of diving under water to a depth of no more than 5-10 meters, in which oxygen is supplied to a person using a breathing tube. For comfortable swimming, the diver wears additional equipment during the process: a mask and fins. The first allows him to carefully examine all the beauty of the underwater flora and fauna during a dive, the second allows him to develop speed and save some energy during long swims.

Almost the entire coast of Bali is ideal for snorkeling enthusiasts. Here, this type of entertainment does not even require any special preparation or long training; snorkeling on the island is a pleasure! However, when planning this leisure activity, do not forget about basic safety rules:

  • take out travel insurance;
  • always communicate the location of the chosen location to other people;
  • choose the right place for snorkeling in Bali;
  • and realistically assess the capabilities of your body, the features of the ocean snorkeling site, as well as possible dangers from sharp reefs or dangerous fish and other underwater animals living in the chosen place.

It is best to go to the selected location together with an experienced partner or a professional instructor who, if necessary, can easily and quickly eliminate any possible danger without panic. Remember, each location can be fraught with a lot of surprises: strong water currents, sudden ebbs, depth changes and bottom irregularities. And it would be better to study it together with the person who knows about all these nuances.

Bali is a paradise for underwater explorers. This Indonesian island is part of the so-called “coral triangle”, which covers 5.7 million square kilometers of ocean waters, which opens up great opportunities for lovers of the underwater world. We present to your attention a list of the best places for snorkeling with their detailed descriptions, most of which are wildly popular with visitors.

Tulamben Beach

This is famous. Many tourists come here specifically to go underwater and take a closer look at the local underwater attractions - the coral garden and the sunken cargo ship Liberty.

The Coral Garden is a magnificent combination of original rocky reefs, soft and hard corals, and artificial structures. It originates almost from the very shore of the beach. Here you can find clownfish, boxfish, shrimp, squid, barracuda and octopus. In total, the garden is home to about 400 species of reef fish and about 100 species of large pelagic fish.

The wreck of the USS Liberty is the wreck of an American ship that unsuccessfully attempted to pass through the Lombok Strait during World War II. Today the ship looks like an artificial reef, surrounded on all sides by magnificent corals. It is located near the shore and is submerged in shallow water, to a depth of about 30 meters. During the dry season, when the water becomes crystal clear, you can even see it from the surface without plunging into the water. To be honest, this military boat is nothing special, but against the background of corals it looks very unusual.
