Rocks of Los Gigantes. What is personal data

Las Americas is the most popular holiday area on the island. This is where almost all tourists come. There is everything here for everyone. You won't notice the boundaries of these three resorts. One smoothly develops into the other.

Los Cristianos

Los Cristianos is a quiet, peaceful area with an equally quiet coastline. Here is one of the 2 ports from which cargo-passenger ferries depart to neighboring islands. The second one is in .

  • Here at the port you can rent a car or return it. centers, and turtles and much more. There are a number of roller shutters along the embankment where you can buy all this.
  • By the way, not far from the port there is a small kiosk where they sell fresh fish from morning until 12-00. If you live in an apartment, you can cook it on a grill over a fire.
  • Los Cristianos abuts the mountain - Montaña de Guasa. If you go around the mountain, you can get to a wonderful place where in the evening on the mountain overlooking Las Americas you can barbecue and drink local wine.
  • Los Cristianos is essentially dormitory area– There are few hotels, and tourists live here in apartments. It’s cheaper to rent housing here, but you’ll be going to the beach in Las Americas, and it’s not a close trip.

Las Americas begins right behind Los Cristianos beach - traffic from morning to morning, many restaurants, clubs. Sometimes it seems that even the sun shines brighter here).
And right behind it begins Costa Adeja.

Costa Adeja

The place is calm, more suitable for family vacation. After 22-00 it is almost dead. So if you are used to a more party rhythm, you should settle in Las Americas. If you come with your family or just want have a relaxing holiday, then you are welcome)

  • This is where one of the famous beaches Playadel Duke and Hotel Bahia del Duque. This is one of the most expensive hotels Tenerife, but also one of the most best hotels Tenerife islands. One of the new ones is also located here. shopping centers Plaza del Duque.
  • Nearby is the village of La Caleta, where you can try authentic Canarian cuisine, seafood and fresh fish.
By amazing chance, the only casino in south island is in this calm and quiet town Costa Adeja at the H10 Gran Tenerife Hotel. The hotel is very high and can be seen from afar.
  • Costa Leisure has two huge entertainment center And .
  • Puerto Colon is a small yacht port where you can rent a yacht, catamaran, buy a whale walk or sea fishing.
The city has its own website costa-adeje.es

  • The border between Las Americas and Costa Adeja is considered hot spot Veronicas. This place gets busy after 9 pm.
  • Lots of bars, clubs, everywhere are opening. They turn on loud music, barkers come out into the street and pester all people passing by, luring everyone into their bar with free shots. The barkers are sitting on a percentage of alcohol sales, so they will trick you into buying expensive booze. But you must understand that there will be no smell of it there.
  • Get ready for a large number blacks in this place. They will walk around hung with watches and glasses from Aliexpress and annoyingly get into your eyes. If you refuse to buy junk, they will simply ask for money. Some of them will offer to f*ck you, but it’s better not to get involved in this. In general, there is a high probability that after evenings at Veronicas you will have a negative attitude towards blacks.

There is also the notorious Papagayo club - very beautiful on the outside and full of stains on the inside. If they just treat you to cocktails, it’s better to refuse. Firstly, they brought alcohol with them and simply gave it to the waiters they knew to pour into a glass; secondly, there may be a conflict and they will demand that you pay for this cocktail. A particularly frequent guest is a short man with long gray hair, he is Algerian, he has his own hotel here. He's something of a racketeer.
Well, if you want adventure, you are welcome)
In general, on such a cheerful note, Costa Adeja becomes Las Americas)

Las Americas

The weather in Las Americas is always warm without rain and wind, as in principle throughout south coast Tenerife. Therefore, in the evening and even at night you can hang out in shorts and a T-shirt)

  • There are countless bars and restaurants in Las Americas! There are Italian and Chinese, French, Japanese and international. However, the kitchen here will be put on stream and you won’t eat anything sensible, no matter how much money you pay. To eat a truly tasty and fresh dish with the stated ingredients, you will need to travel outside of Las Americas to Tajao or La Caleta, for example. Yes, and it will cost less.

You can go dancing at the Casablanca bar. It plays authentic Spanish music, local Spaniards dance salsa and it's right on the boardwalk overlooking the ocean. If you are tired of loud music, you can go down to the beach and listen to the whisper of the ocean. Casablanca is located with a number of other bars close to the beach and Las Americas.

  • Near night life is in full swing on Avenida de Las Americas, or popularly known as the “golden mile.” Here you can shop, have a delicious meal and just take a walk! Here and concert hall“Pyramid of Arona” which we have already written about. And Hard Rock Café with delicious American cuisine, but not cheap either.

You can just buy a bottle of wine or beer in the store and go sit on the embankment, and the loud music of the bars will become the background... In general, there are locations here for different tastes, you just need to decide what you want (now)?

Cozy and quiet town Los Gigantes is located on west coast Tenerife is the largest island of the Canary archipelago. At the foot of the giant rocks "Acantilado de Los Gigantes", a 500-meter wall breaking off to Atlantic Ocean, and stretching along the coast for 10 kilometers. Thanks to its location, Los Gigantes is protected mountain range from northern winds and is located some distance from the noisy tourist center of Las Americas, which gives the holiday in this place a certain originality, which we will talk about now.

In fact, the resort, which tourists call Los Gigantes, consists of three administrative entities (La Arena, Puerto de Santiago and Los Gigantes). Once upon a time these were completely separate settlements that merged into one due to rapid growth.

You can get to Los Gigantes from the South Airport either by taxi (about 55 euros) or by bus with a transfer at the bus station in Las Americas.
To do this, at the South Airport you need to take bus 111, which runs from 6:20 to 22:20 every half hour (and later at 23:20, 00:20, 1:05, 3:20, 4:55). Or take buses 450 or 343 (they run according to their own schedule). Get to the bus station in Las Americas and take bus 477 (fastest) or 473.

The trip will cost approximately 7-8 euros in total and will take about 2 hours.
But this year the time spent on the road should be reduced even more. Since the builders promise to complete the construction of the Utopista No. 1 expressway all the way to Los Gigantes.

Climate in Los Gigantes

I think I won’t be wrong if I call Los Gigantes the most comfortable place in Tenerife in terms of climate. Huge rocks protect it from the north from cold air masses. And the slopes of the Teide volcano protect from the annoying eastern winds, which cause some inconvenience to the residents of the capital Santa Cruz and the whole east coast Tenerife.

Fluctuations in air and water temperature in Los Gigantes

In Los Gigantes the difference between winter and summer temperatures is minimal. As a rule, in winter the air warms up to 17-19 degrees, and in summer to 23-25.

The water temperature is even more stable, since the island in this place is washed by the warm Atlantic current. In winter, the ocean here has a temperature close to 18 degrees, in summer the water reaches a temperature of 22 degrees. It rains extremely rarely, and the sun shines almost constantly.

Where to live?

There are no luxury five-star hotels in Los Gigantes. Yes and simply big hotels There are a few of them here. Of these, the most popular is the four-star "Be Live Playa La Arena", located near the city beach "Playa de la Arena". And also a hotel "Luabay Costa los Gigantes"

But most vacationers rent apartments in Los Gigantes, of which there are a great many. And you can find accommodation to suit every taste.

Sights of Los Gigantes

Los Gigantes small town, built up mainly with low-rise apartment hotels and low-rise buildings in a provincial style.

Even at the height of the season, there are few people here and there is no resort bustle, such as, for example, in Las Americas. But everything necessary for comfortable rest available. Lots of cafes, restaurants and shops where you can eat and buy everything you need.

The only thing that Los Gigantes does not have is noisy night parties and discos. Therefore Los Gigantes is favorite place rest of sedate English and German tourists.

However, for those who want to have fun, covering the distance of 25 kilometers to Las Americas is not difficult.

All tourists coming to Los Gigantes must visit the local port, which is considered the largest on the coast.

Beaches in Los Gigantes

Since the entire coast of Tenerife is formed by the solidified lava of the Teide volcano, there are not many natural beaches here. And all of them are covered with black sand, which is volcanic rock worn down by waves and winds.

Popular tourist destinations such as Las Americas also have white sand beaches. But they are all artificial. Sand was brought here from the Sahara on barges.

Los Gigantes has three beaches and all of them have black sand. The first - Playa de los Guyos - is located between the port and the cliffs.

The other is the smallest "Playa Chica" - in Puerto de Santiago.

And the most popular and comfortable city beach, Playa de la Arena, is well known in Tenerife. Tourists come here even from Las Americas to lie on the signature black sand, which gets very hot in the sun. And jump on the ocean waves. And they come here all the time, since the beach does not have breakwaters.

conclusions

Los Gigantes - cozy, quiet resort with comfortable weather both in winter and summer. Suitable for those who do not like fuss and noisy entertainment.

The town of Los Gigantes is ideal for lovers of a quiet, comfortable holiday. Vacationers at this resort will be able to enjoy incredibly beautiful scenery, exciting fishing, diving, boat trips and beaches with black volcanic sand.

Watch my drone video:

Mostly respectable people from Europe vacation here. Middle-aged and family tourists predominate; There are not many young people. In the port of the town there are yachts and pleasure boats await tourists. From here small boats depart for excursions to the Maska gorge and fishing; Here you can rent a kayak or jet ski.

Good hotels in Los Gigantes:

The town of Puerto de Santiago

The coastal town of Puerto de Santiago (photo: Boris Busorgin)

Puerto de Santiago has a different character. There are fewer tourists here than in Los Gigantes - only a few hotels have been built here. Mostly Canarians live in the town. Puerto de Santiago is very cozy city, all its buildings are built in the same Mediterranean style. It was formed on the site of a fishing settlement, and today, as before, the fishing craft flourishes there. The fresh catch ends up in local restaurants. There are no equipped beaches within the town; vacationers prefer to swim at a nearby resort.

The resort town of Playa de la Arena

Playa de la Arena is located south of its neighbors, in a rocky, sunny bay. This resort is preferred by the British and Germans, most often - family vacationers. The main attraction is La Arena Beach, the best in the city and the most crowded.

Lena and I moved to live in this area.

Beaches of Los Gigantes with marks on the map

The beaches of this tourist area meet the needs of lovers of tranquility, comfort and warm waters.

Playa de los Guyos

Natural pool

Playa Los Chocos

Playa de la Arena

Playa de la Arena

La Arena (Playa de la Arena) – great beach: sandy, the cleanest in Tenerife. A natural bay covers it with a wall of high rocks, but there are waves here, and quite serious ones. For small children, only a strip of two to three meters wide along the shore is safe - then the depth begins. There are a lot of people in the afternoon.

The sun is active here (protective cream is necessary both on the beach and on regular walks). The black volcanic sand becomes very hot by lunchtime, and it becomes difficult to walk on it. For the comfort of vacationers, wooden paths are laid all around, umbrellas and sun loungers are equipped. Toilet is paid – €0.20. The length of the sand strip is 160 by 60 m. For comfort, the Arena beach was awarded “ Blue Flag" Lifeguards are constantly on duty here, water safety information flags are posted, and medical assistance is available.

Hotels near La Arena Beach:

  • with meals All Inclusive
  • – close to the beach, also all inclusive.

Playa Los Chocos (closed)

In the town of Puerto de Santiago there is only one big beach– Playa los chocos. The strip of volcanic sand covers an area of 65 by 25 m. This miniature recreation area is located in the waters of the old fishing port of Puerto Santiago. This is natural sand beach Without any special amenities, tourists don’t visit often; it’s mostly locals who relax here.

The beach always smells like sewage, maybe that's why it was closed to swimming.

Playa de Los Guyos

This triangular beach of approximately 2400 m² is located at the foot of rock cliffs on the outskirts of Los Gigantes, between the small port and the cliffs. This is not the most popular place relaxation by the water - only tourists living nearby relax there. The street leading to the beach is Calle los Guios.

Playa de los Guios is famous for its stunning scenery and unusually warm water. The coastal waves here are actually several degrees warmer than on neighboring beaches. The water is heated by sun-hot rocks submerged several tens of meters into the ocean. On the beach you can rent sun loungers, deck chairs, umbrellas, and catamarans.

Good hotels in Los Gigantes:

  • with excellent panoramic views of the ocean and mountains

Natural pool

The ocean that rages off the western shores of Tenerife often deprives vacationers of the opportunity to swim - the waves become too dangerous. Locals came up with a decent way out of the situation. Between the rocks and the ridge of solidified lava not far from the shore, a kind of huge “bathtub” formed. People supplemented the natural fencing of the natural pool with a concrete side. It became a barrier to the ocean elements.

The bathhouse is located away from the road. There is a sign near the parking lot leading to the gate to the beach. You can sunbathe here on a concrete side covered with algae, on a small stone platform or lumpy rocks. It’s calm and safe inside the sea “bath” - high waves They hit the concrete barrier, burst into splashes in the sun and retreat, leaving thousands of bubbles in the pool. Both the sight and the sensations are amazing.

Weather in Los Gigatnes

The climate of this place is ideal - very soft and stable. Temperature fluctuations throughout the year are no more than seven degrees (from +21 to +28 °C). The resort is perfectly protected from the wind: from the north - by the huge Teide volcano, from the west - by the grandiose rock formations of Los Gigantes. The water temperature throughout the year ranges from +19°C to +23°C.

How to get to Los Gigatnes?

Because the direct bus from Los Gigantes there is no way, you will have to change trains to Las Americas. Bus schedules and ticket prices can be found on titsa.com.

From airport Tenerife Sur Take any of the buses 111, 343, 450 or 470 to the Playa Americas (Estacion) stop. Travel time is about 25 minutes. The fare is € 2.20. Then change to bus No. 473 or No. 477 and go to the Los Gigantes stop. Travel time – 1 hour 20 minutes. The fare is € 4.65.

Another way to get to the place easily and conveniently is to rent a car. This can be done right at the airport. Detailed information about car rental, see.

How can I save up to 20% on hotels?

It's very simple - look not only on booking. I prefer the search engine RoomGuru. He searches for discounts on Booking and 70 other booking sites simultaneously.

A beach holiday for me is a dubious pleasure: for a couple of days I enjoy lazing on the beach, and after that I am drawn to search for adventures and visit unusual places. A trip to the Los Gigantes rocks greatly diversified my lazy holiday.

The Spanish cliffs of Los Gigantes are not just a natural attraction, but also popular resort attracting tourists unusual beaches with black volcanic sand and amazing views of the coast. But it should be borne in mind that these beaches are wild, the entrance to the sea is rocky in many places, so this is more of a scenic attraction than a great place to relax. To relax and enjoy sunbathing and swimming, it is best to stay at one of the hotels in the town of Los Gigantes of the same name. Almost all hotels here have wide terraces with sun loungers, swimming pools and beautiful panoramic views of the rocks and sea.

If you want to admire the natural beauty and come to Los Gigantes for one day, I advise you not to limit yourself to just the rocks - explore the surrounding area: there are stunning hiking trails, and along the mountain road there are numerous viewing platforms with stunning views.

How to get to Los Gigantes

The Los Gigantes cliffs are located on the west coast, so of all resort towns You can get here by car or bus by scenic road along the coast.

The journey from the resorts of Los Cristianos and Playa de Las Américos will take only half an hour by car; you will need to take the TF-47 highway. the distance is just under 30 km. Also through these cities go Shuttle Buses No. 473 and 477, Ending station of which - Los Gigantes. Buses depart approximately every half hour and cost 4.65 euros. Travel time is about an hour.

WITH north coast getting to the rocks is also easy. If you are traveling from resort town Puerto de la Cruz by car, you will have to cross almost a third of the island, the journey will take a little over an hour, you will need to travel along highways TF-5, TF-82 and TF-454. Bus service Route No. 325 is also established here, the travel time will be 1:40, the trip will cost 7.10 euros. Look bus routes You can learn more and study ticket discounts on the TITSA website - they provide all bus services on the island.

We chose to travel by rental car as it is the most convenient way to explore all corners of Tenerife - although it is an island, it is quite large. Moreover, having visited the Los Gigantes cliffs, I was convinced that it is wonderful to have your own car, since we were able to drive around several observation platforms and look at the cliffs and the coast from different angles, and the views are exactly what you need to go to this place for part of the island.

Famous cliffs of Los Gigantes

The best way to admire the Los Gigantes cliffs is from one of the many viewing platforms. Some of them are located directly on the coast, but I would recommend that you visit the El Mirador Archipenque site, located at the entrance to the resort on the TF-454 highway.

From here there is a stunning view: the blue expanse of the sea, the roofs of houses with bright spots of blue pools, and there, in the distance, the famous rocky ridge of Los Gigantes. These protrusions really attract the eye; it seemed to me that they possess some kind of special magnetism.

It is on this observation deck You fully understand why these rocks are nicknamed giants: they rise out of the water like a powerful wall, creating a quiet, shady bay. Peering into the distance, I distinguish five ledges, and it seems that they continue somewhere around the bend, lined up in an endless invincible ridge.

Someone will say that there is nothing special about these rocks, but it is no coincidence that the ancient Indians who lived on the island called them “the wall of hell”: the height and scale are amazing!

Beaches and resorts of Los Gigantes

It is not surprising that such natural protection made the surrounding bays great place for the resort. There are three tiny seaside towns, which are most often considered a single resort of Los Gigantes. On this section of the coast, as far as I know, the weather is very comfortable all year round: in summer it does not get hotter than +23–25 °C, and in winter temperatures usually do not drop below +18–20 °C. But the water is quite cool all year round - +18–22 °C, so swimming here is always refreshing. In addition, there is almost no rain in this place, so you can always just enjoy the sun.

In the Los Gigantes area there are several beaches with volcanic black-gray sand, for which many older people come here: it is considered healing. The largest beach is Playa de la Arena(Playa de la Arena) - equipped with wooden paths, there are umbrellas and sun loungers for rent. There is a good entrance to the water here, since the beach is located in a natural cove, and there are fewer waves here. But the views from here are not impressive: the Los Gigantes cliffs obscure the hotel buildings.

Much more exotic Playa de los Gigantes(Playa de los Gigantes): This offers another stunning view of the cliffs. You are standing almost at their foot, so you can fully realize how high they are. The largest rock reaches 600 meters, which is a colossal size. However, this beach is not equipped, and despite the sandy entrance to the sea, the waves here are constantly huge. You can swim, but I preferred to just sit on the sand for a while, admire Los Gigantes and feel the power of nature: giant rocks, strong gusts of sea wind and powerful waves that create such noise everywhere. This is an indescribable feeling and one of the few attractions that must not only be seen, but felt in the literal sense of the word.

If you decide to stay here for a couple of days, you can easily find a hotel to suit your taste and budget, since in this region there are both giant coastal hotels with huge pools and small apart-hotels. Prices start from 70 euros per night in double room, average price tag is 100–115 euros per day. But it is better to book hotels in advance, as the demand from European tourists for accommodation in this area is very high.

Maska village and hiking trails

Los Gigantes is notable for its proximity to another popular tourist destination - mountain village Maska, which is famous for its types.

It is located just 18 kilometers from the city of Los Gigantes, so you can easily get here by car or bus along a narrow mountain road. By car, follow the routes TF-454, TF-82 and TF-436, following the signs for the village. On public transport getting here is more difficult, but you can take bus number 325 to the town of Santiago del Teide, and then change to bus number 355. The journey will take more than two hours, while by car you will reach your destination in just half an hour , it’s easier to take a taxi - it will cost about 25–30 euros.

The views from the car window amazed me, so we stopped several times to admire the stunning view: the sparkle of the sea in the distance, light haze and mountains, mountains, mountains growing out of nowhere here and there. And between them a narrow strip of serpentine road winds and a few tiny cars rush along it. Wind, light and mountains are the three key components of the landscapes on the way to Masca.

There are only a dozen houses in the village itself, but they are quite colorful - the settlement was isolated for a long time due to the lack highway, so the buildings here have been preserved from past centuries. Usually everyone takes pictures with the local “gingerbread” house, although it reminded me more of the robbers’ hut from the cartoon about the Bremen Town Musicians. Such an association here, I tell you, is not surprising, because adventure lovers are attracted here by legends about pirates who hid countless treasures in a gorge nearby. After wandering around the village for a few minutes, feel free to explore the gorge and other natural beauty.

Walking trail 4.5 km long - exactly what tourists come here for. Passing through the gorge and climbing among the rocks, you gradually descend to Masca Beach, from where boats sail back to Los Gigantes several times a day. Find out the details of the route, departure time of the boat and prices for group excursions Can hiking according to Mask.

Boat trips

If you, like me, for example, are not inclined to climb mountain trails under the scorching sun, you can admire Los Gigantes from the water. Pleasure boats stop in the harbor of Puerto de los Giganes next to the beach of the same name, so you can cruise along the rocky coast in an hour or go on a full day of sailing with stops for swimming in various coves.

The beauty of a boat trip is that you can swim up to the very rocks and examine their surface - here and there bright red or red rock breaks through, turning the rocks that seemed gray-black from afar into color. From the tops of the rocks, ancient cracks and crevices descend into the water, along which lava once flowed.

Another tourist attraction sea trips in this region there is the opportunity to see dolphins and even whales half an hour from the coast in the open sea. Of course, you will have to look from a very far distance, but how nice it is to realize that these wonderful creatures are swimming next to you, and perhaps even under you!

By the way, if you decide to go on a boat trip, choose a smaller boat, for 20–30 people. Of course, it will rock a little more, but you will definitely have time to see dolphins and whales, look at the rocks in detail and won’t miss anything interesting. According to reviews from travelers, large ships, and especially themed pirate yachts, are crowded with hundreds of people, everyone rushes to one side at once, and it’s difficult to see anything when you find yourself in such a crowd.

***
To summarize, I will say that a trip to the Los Gigantes rocks is definitely worth it if you want to diversify your beach holiday. The coast of the island in this place is amazingly beautiful: black volcanic beaches, majestic cliffs and mountain roads– the views are breathtaking. " Better than the mountains there can only be mountains,” Vysotsky sang. Well, the only thing better than rocks are giant rocks!
