Veterinary control at the airport Girona Spain. Girona Airport. Practical knowledge for tourists. Duty Free shops at Girona Airport

Girona Airport (Aeroport de Girona - Costa Brava) (IATA GRO, ICAO: LEGE) - international Airport in northeastern Catalonia (Spain) 12 km from the city of Girona. At the time of writing, a visit to this airport was only in plans. Now we have been to Girone twice already. The first time in August 2009, on a flight from Bremen, the second time in April and May 2012, on flights from Tallinn. If I'm not mistaken, this is our eighth Ryanair airport and the tenth in Europe overall.

Girona Airport goes by different names, which can lead to confusion, especially when booking flights. In Spanish it is spelled Girona, but in Catalan it is written Gerona, so the names are used interchangeably. There are also other options, for example, Ryanair calls the airport Barcelona-Girona Airport. While other airlines call it Gerona-Costa Brava or Girona-Costa Brava.

The airport was built in 1965 and had a runway measuring 2,200 by 45 meters, as well as parking for nine medium-sized aircraft. Later, a power plant, a control tower and a weather station were built, as well as a one-story passenger terminal with an area of 2,600 square meters. m. On the airfield itself, a taxiway appeared, parallel to the runway.

It was classified first as administrative, that is, as local. In 1969, the aircraft parking area was further expanded and the taxiway was lengthened. In the same year, due to an increase in traffic volumes, construction of a new terminal began. In 1975, work began to expand and adapt the runway to accommodate large jet aircraft. In the early seventies, the number of charter flights initially increased sharply, but since 1978 most of them have been transferred to Barcelona Airport. This led to a decrease in air travel, especially after 1983.

Everything changed dramatically in the early 2000s, when Ryanair decided to make Girona Airport one of its hubs. This led to a sharp increase in passenger traffic. Over the next six years after the arrival of Ryanair, the number of passengers carried increased more than 10 times. Girona Airport (Barcelona-Girona Airport) is used by Ryanair for flights to Barcelona, as it is 92 km away north of the city. Barcelona can be reached directly by bus or taxi, or by train from railway station city of Girona.

Departure from Girona (Barcelona-Girona Airport)

Registration for internal and international flights is carried out on the lower level of the passenger terminal building, where 18 check-in counters are located. The airport terminal is not very large in size and is not difficult to navigate. Ryanair is the airport's flagship carrier and its check-in counters are visible from afar. The only caveat is that the electronic board does not indicate the boarding gate number, only the check-in counter.

Our flight (May 11, 2012) from Barcelona-Girona Airport to Tallinn was early (departure at 6.55) so the check-in area was relatively empty. To check luggage and hand luggage Check-in counters 1-4 are used for weight, on the left side of the terminal. There is no registration at these counters, but only electronic scales.

The visa-check procedure, mandatory for Russians, is carried out in a separate window on the right side of the terminal, next to check-in counter number 18.

After visa-check and baggage check-in, you need to go up the escalator to the next level of the terminal, where the checkpoints ("feel") are located before entering the departure area. Here you need to remember that the line to the security check area begins literally right behind the escalator. If you have free time before departure, it is more convenient to carry it out at the lower level of the terminal.

On the upper level from the escalator to the security check area there is only a queue of departing passengers, and you can sit behind the security check area, but there are not many places. Only one dutik was seen, and it was small. The number of the required (and let me remind you there are 10 or 12) gate for boarding appears on the board only 15-20 minutes before departure. If you go through the inspection too early, then there is nothing to do at the top and you constantly need to monitor the electronic scoreboard. We didn’t have such a problem, since the flight was early, we barely had time to go through all the procedures when boarding was announced. They didn’t even go into the dyutik.

At Girona Airport (Barcelona-Girona Airport) there was no weight check of hand luggage, but each (!!!) bag or suitcase was checked for size through the counter before being allowed to board. Let me remind you that if the size of hand luggage exceeds 55x35x25, i.e. If your suitcase or bag does not fit into the rack, you will have to pay for your luggage at a greatly (!) inflated rate, and even have to carry it to the plane yourself.

Arrival to Girona (Barcelona-Girona Airport)

Arriving at Girona Airport (Barcelona-Girona Airport) is simple and straightforward. The terminal is not big and everything happens very quickly.

Regardless of the flight, passengers arrive on the 0th floor of the passenger terminal building, where two baggage claim halls are located. Hall-1 serves domestic flights, flights from the UK and Ireland, as well as from countries included in the Schengen agreement. Hall 2 is intended for passengers arriving from countries outside the Schengen Agreement. The baggage claim halls have direct access to the arrivals hall.

In addition to Barcelona, Girona Airport has good connections with the resorts of the Costa Brava and Costa del Maresme. Thanks to its proximity to the French border (only 40 minutes drive), you can use the airport when planning trips to the Pyrenees and ski resorts Andorra. More detailed information according to options (cost, schedule, etc.) on the airport website in the Transport section. The page contains a lot of links to other pages of the site with options for leaving and coming.

Bus Girona (Barcelona-Girona Airport) - Barcelona.

In August 2009, after arriving at Girona-Girona Airport-Barcelona, we were primarily interested in Barcelona, so we will dwell in more detail on the budget transfer (and this is a bus) to Barcelona and back. The bus is the easiest and cheap way travel between Girona Airport (Barcelona-Girona Airport) and Barcelona city center. The carrier company is not owned by Ryanair, but the flight schedule is coordinated with Ryanair's arrival and departure flights. Schedule Girona (Barcelona-Girona Airport)-Barcelona. and Schedule Barcelona - Girona Airport (Barcelona-Girona Airport) Schedule 2009, for example, it is better to look at the current ones using the links on the website of Girona Airport - Barcelona.

The airport bus goes from Barcelona to the Estacio Nord bus station. Travel time is approximately 1 hour 10 minutes. A five-minute walk from the stop is the ARC DE Triomf metro station (red line 1). The cost of a one-way ticket then was €12.0 ( May 2012 - €15.0), round trip €21.0 ( May 2012 - €25.0). Tickets were not pre-sold. You could only buy a ticket on the spot - you had to stand in a short (or long, depending on your luck) line at a special window in a booth next to the bus parking lot. Tickets were sold only in cash, no bank cards. In general, during our trip to Spain in 2009, which began at Girona airport, we repeatedly had the opportunity to make sure that the Spaniards have a cool attitude towards bank cards; they somehow prefer cash.

You can also take a bus from Barcelona-Girona Airport to the city of Girona.

Rent a car at Girona Airport - Barcelona.

Our second visit (April 27, 2012) to Girona Airport (Barcelona-Girona Airport) was calculated taking into account car rental. The car was ordered in advance from the website of Ryanair, which in turn cooperates with HERTZ. The HERTZ office, like the offices of other renta-car companies, is located in the arrivals hall, visible literally immediately as you enter the terminal.

We had a booking voucher in hand and the entire registration procedure took literally a matter of minutes. To receive a car, the HERTZ Agent needs to present your license (we had international ones), a voucher and a bank card. A contract and car keys are given to you. At the time of booking, the cost of the rental, the cost of a tank of gasoline and the amount assigned for returning the car to a location other than where it was issued are debited from the account.

I will give the financial result of renting a car from HERTZ at Girona Airport (Barcelona-Girona Airport) - Barcelona. Renting an Opel Astra class car from HERTZ through Ryanair for two weeks cost €259.0. The amount charged for fuel is calculated as a full tank at a very inhumane price. In fact, instead of the Astra, we got a diesel Opel Meriva and for fuel we were charged 54 liters at €2.55. The amount for a return is not there - €17.70.

Even before the trip, having received a rental voucher from HERTZ and carefully read it, we were surprised to find that the declared cost of renting a car did not include CDW and TP insurance (analogous to our CASCO). We decided that we would talk about this on the spot, when we received the car at Girona Airport (Barcelona-Girona Airport)-Barcelona. The result of the negotiations on the spot surprised us even more - it turned out that for some unknown reason, it was impossible to pay for insurance on the spot, canceling the reserve and placing a new order was also impossible... Well, what was completely surprising was that the car was given to us without insurance. And no franchise blocks.

As a result, after returning the money written off for a tank of fuel, renting an Opel Meriva car for 14 days at the Girona-Girona Airport-Barcelona cost us only the same €259.0, i.e. less than twenty euros per day. And taking into account the fact that there was another person traveling with us and he compensated for 1/3 of the costs of both renting a car and gasoline, everything turned out very humanely. By the way, the refund of the written-off funds occurred quickly, no later than a week after the return of the car. What else can I say? Just one thing - fly Ryanair and use HERTZ services.

The cars of renta-car companies are waiting for their owners in a separate parking lot; to get there you need to go through a regular parking lot located closer to the passenger terminal of Girona Airport (Barcelona-Girona Airport). However, the HERTZ agent who registers the car will kindly tell you where to go.

Now a few words about returning the car. First, there are NO refueling stations in the area adjacent to Girona Airport (Barcelona-Girona Airport). You need to take care of replenishing the fuel tank in advance; the nearest REPSOL gas station is located on the N-II highway about five kilometers before the turn to the airport, in the direction of travel from Girona.

The second relates to HERTZ and perhaps to the time defined as "off season". More specifically, at the beginning of May 2012, the acceptance of the car at Barcelona-Girona Airport (Barcelona-Girona Airport) is carried out by a specially trained person who arrives at 11:00 a.m. (11:00 a.m.). It is unknown how long he works, but when we took the car on April 27, after arriving at 15:00, the booth in the parking lot where the HERTZ representative should sit was locked. Despite the fact that the opening hours are stated from 8.00 to 20.00. The result is that we simply parked the car in the parking lot, next to the HERTZ booth, and took the keys to where they were issued.

To get to the rental car parking lot at Barcelona-Girona Airport, you need to drive between the parking lot and the airport terminal, almost making a circle. There are traffic signs on the asphalt, and there are also signs along the road on the side of the road. Entrance to the renta-car parking lot is through a barrier that rises automatically when approaching.

For now, that's all about renting a car at Barcelona-Girona Airport-Barcelona...

Taxi at Girona Airport (Barcelona-Girona Airport)-Barcelona.

For those who are interested in the possibility of leaving or arriving at Girona Airport (Barcelona-Girona Airport)-Barcelona by taxi, I can say the following. Taxis at the airport are minivans or minibuses like Mercedes-Vito and the like. Travel cost for famous settlements- fixed or at least predictable. Thus, the cost of a trip from Barcelona-Girona Airport (Barcelona-Girona Airport) to the city of Girona is stated as €25.0 for a one-way flight. Mikriks are multi-seat, so if you get a group of people willing, you’ll end up with less for each person. We were traveling together, in fact it turned out that way, the meter clicked at the end of the road - €24.55. Fare category -3.

From Girona, from a hotel in the Salt area, taking into account the early time (5-00 am) and ordering a taxi by phone, the cost of a trip to Girona-Girona Airport-Barcelona amounted to almost €30.0. Fare category -4. That's how it showed on the meter.

Costa Brava Airport is located in Spanish Catalonia near the city of Girona. It is also convenient to travel to Barcelona and the Pyrenees. The annual flow of passengers at the air hub has experienced ups and downs: its maximum number was more than 5.5 million in 2008, and in last years this number has dropped to 2 million, which is also quite a lot.

http://www.girona-airport.cat. The text is available in four languages: English, Spanish, Catalan and French.

The airport's operations began in 1965. For many years it was not a very visited airport. That all changed in the 2000s when Ryanair turned the airport into one of its hubs. Today the airport is in great demand due to the fact that it is conveniently located and there are a sufficient number of transport routes around. The choice of passengers is also due to the fact that it is easy to get from Girona to Barcelona, where the flow of passengers is more intense. It is the closest airport to the Costa Brava, besides Girona, and can be easily reached by any means of transport.

Structure of Girona Airport

The old airport terminal, which was built when it opened, was demolished in order to expand the runway. To replace the previous building, a new comfortable terminal was built, work on which continues to this day.

Outside the airport there are car parks, car rental services, bus terminals and taxi services. This is done for convenient and quick movement of passengers. Inside, the building is clearly structured and divided into zones.

Ground floor of the terminal

The first floor is divided into departure and arrival areas. The following establishments and counters are located in the departure area:

  • cafeteria;
  • restaurant;
  • kiosk with books, stationery and local or international newspapers;
  • ATM;
  • information desk open 24 hours a day;
  • area with wireless Internet;
  • telephone booth (you can call by placing a coin in the machine);
  • Mailbox;
  • means for comfortable movement and stay at the airport for persons with disabilities;
  • toilets, which are also equipped with stalls for the disabled;
  • lost and found;
  • local tour operator's office.

There are 33 counters and self-service points for passenger check-in. Counters 1-4 also serve to check the weight of luggage before check-in. It’s usually quiet and peaceful here, so you can slowly redistribute your belongings to avoid paying extra for overweight.

The arrival area is equipped with baggage belts and passport control counters. There are vending machines with snacks and drinks, and a cafeteria. This part of the airport also has an ATM, telephone and wi-fi zone. Arriving passengers can contact the tour operator's office or local police station if necessary. At the exit there are car rental and taxi services.

Second floor

Escalators and elevators lead to the second floor of the airport. The landing and customs control area is located here. It is important to read the recommendations on permitted and prohibited items in advance. On the second floor of the terminal you can find fast food restaurants, duty-free shops, ATMs, Internet and telephone, as well as smoking areas and toilets.

Departure schedules and flight information

The online display board of Girona Airport can be found not only on the website of the air hub, but also with a corresponding request in search engines. This is more convenient if you do not speak a foreign language. The arrival and departure board can also be found in the “Departures” section on the airport website.

This is not quite a traditional flight schedule panel. Here is a search form where you can find any departures and arrivals anywhere in the world, book or find a suitable ticket, read information about taxi or car rental services and much more.

The airport cooperates with a small number of airlines, including the Russian Pobeda. Its main destinations are located in Europe, as well as Moscow and Malta. Most Departures are operated by Ryanair, for which it is the third largest hub in Europe.

How to get to and from Girona Airport

Girona Airport, Barcelona on the map is not very far from it, is located 103 kilometers from this city. This city is the most common destination for arriving travelers. By car you can get to Barcelona from the air hub in 1.5 hours. At the exit, passengers will be waiting for a taxi or car rental service. A taxi ride costs about 120 euros.

You can also take the train, which will quickly take you to Barcelona. It should be borne in mind that the distance from the airport to the city of Girona itself is 12 km, so first you need to get there by car. The nearest train station, Riudelots, is 5 km from the airport, and Girona station is 15 km from the airport.

There is regular public transport from the airport terminal. There are four bus routes. "Airport - Barcelona" is the most popular of them. The trip will last 1 hour 10 minutes and departure times vary depending on flight arrivals. A round-trip ticket will cost 25 euros and can be purchased at the airport ticket office.

There are others bus routes from the airport: to Costa Bravo, Northern Costa Bravo and Girona. The last one takes only 25 minutes. A bus runs six times a day to Perpignan in France. From Girona airport it is also convenient to reach resort towns, such as Lloret de Mar, L'Estartit or Blanes. The border with France can be reached in 40 minutes from here, so the hub can serve as a point of arrival for tourists heading to the ski resorts of the Pyrenees or Andorra. The air hub is located near three major highways that lead in different directions.

Hotels and other facilities in the area of Girona Airport

At a distance of 2 to 5 kilometers from the air hub you can find restaurants, supermarkets, gas stations and car services. There are also hotels here, the prices of which are quite affordable. There is a hotel of its own at the airport and it is called Hotel Vilobi Park. You can spend a night here for 75-90 euros. The staff speaks English, but be patient and be prepared to communicate using gestures.

Other accommodation options: hotels, inns or small boarding houses are located at a distance of 1.5 kilometers or more from the air hub. Their prices vary and depend on the level of service, type of rooms and included services. The variety of places to stay allows you to find both luxury and simple budget options.

What is better - taxi or transfer?

It is customary to order a taxi in Spain by phone. If the trip is long, you will have to discuss the cost of waiting, tariff, return fee, and not every driver will agree to go, for example, from Tossa de Mar to Costa Brava airport.

Maria, Nizhnevartovsk:

“We arrived late, and there were three more flights in one day, so we decided to spend the night at the Viloby Park hotel. Modest, but clean, all the amenities, the employees speak English with difficulty. For the three of us we paid about 90 euros with breakfast, and we took the morning bus to Blanes.”

If you want to explore Girona (and it's worth it), it makes sense to take a taxi to the city center(35-40 euros) and stay for a couple of days in a hotel or inexpensive hostel.
