The Hungarian thermal lake Heviz attracts tourists not only because of its healing power and indescribable beauty. Many independent travelers choose it because of the opportunity to relax very economically, while receiving a range of medical procedures. Another positive point is that flight options and methods of moving from the airport to Heviz itself are easily accessible to the average resident.

Lake Heviz – a world-famous health resort

The 4.7 hectare lake is located in the center of a large park. The source, which releases about 85 million liters of hot water daily, ensures that the water ball is completely renewed within 28 hours. Maximum depth- about 36 m. Summer water temperature is 34-36 degrees, winter - not lower than 23-25 degrees.

There are recreation centers and sanatoriums on the lake and around it. They work all year round, so tourists planning a vacation on their own do not need to worry about choosing the optimal time for the trip.

Features of healing Heviz water

History of hydrogen sulfide lake mineral spring originates in 1975. Then its owner was Count Dyorgy Fashtetic. He was the first to use his entrepreneurial skills and open Heviz as a resort and health complex. The lake also has a significant history - after swimming in it, the daughter of a count from the Tatika castle, paralyzed on both legs, recovered.

Multiple medical studies and repeated cases of recovery do not question the effectiveness of water. Welcome to the most economical and truly therapeutic Hungarian resort!

How to get there

The main point: to Hungary you need a valid Schengen visa (you can get it at the Hungarian consulates in the cities of Moscow, St. Petersburg and Yekaterinburg). The service fee is 35 euros. See the website mfa.gov.hu for all the information you need.

Via Vienna (180 km)

Austrian Airlines provides direct flights to Vienna from Domodedovo (by the way, they have flights from St. Petersburg), Aeroflot sends from Sheremetyevo, and Transaero is also successfully engaged in transportation. The minimum price of a two-way ticket is approximately 7 thousand rubles. If you book a ticket through the airline’s website, you will have to pay about 500 rubles more.

In order to “tailor” the hotel reservation to the departure of the plane and thus not overpay for the hotel if the time is slightly different, we do this: when issuing an air ticket, indicate cash payment, the system will issue an automatic plane reservation for 72 hours (so that you have time to pay in cash). Next, we search for a hotel and book it specifically for the time of arrival. After booking the hotel, we call the airport operators and ask them to change the form of payment to electronic. We pay for the ticket. Comes by email e-ticket. The registration itself takes place one day before departure.

Accommodation and meals

We all understand that if a town is a resort town and world famous, then there are plenty of options for living in it. You can choose a hotel for yourself on many websites, for example, booking.com. Among the most popular and positive hotels in Heviz are “Carbona”, “Evropa Fit”, “Danubius”, “Lotus Therme Rogner”, “ Palace Hotel Hévíz”, etc. Prices are indicated on hotel websites or from tour operators. Nutrition and procedures are an individual choice. At the hotel, the average price for breakfast is 10 euros, dinner – 20 euros. When making a reservation, pay attention to bank commissions and who is charged this commission. There are cases when, due to the presence of intermediary banks that do not advertise themselves during the transaction, the total commission amount was equal to 30%!

Another accommodation option is renting apartments. The cheapest ones cost from 10 euros/day for 2 people. For a complete therapeutic holiday, you can go to any hotel and purchase a package of procedures without staying on site. The package amount is on average 150 euros/6 procedures. A huge plus is that for this money you get access to swimming pools and a thermal complex. If we consider the price range of each individual procedure, it is 10-20 euros (for example, a general massage is about 16 euros/50 minutes).

Meals in the apartments. Many shops, catering establishments, cafes, restaurants and a functioning market 3 times a week will not let you die of hunger. By the way, vacationers prefer to buy cheeses, local sausages, smoked meats, domestic chickens, berries and fruits, honey, nuts, and various preserves at the market (the signature thing is “smiling” jars). Prices in stores and on the market are approximately equal to Russian prices, and in some cases food is even cheaper than at home. For example, you can treat yourself to a sweet cake for about 70 rubles or three scoops of ice cream in a bowl for 35 rubles.

Special mention should be made of Heviz wines. Dry wines in Hungarian are “szaráz”, sweet wines are “edes”, semi-sweet wines are “feledes”. Not far from the lake there is a “Wine Hill” - the choice is incredibly chic. Here you can try homemade wines by the glass - 500 forints/liter. Vintage wine "Heviz" costs 2200 forints/bottle - it has a very special and memorable taste. average price for wine – 2000-2500 forints.

Features of relaxation on the lake

To get to the lake itself, you need to buy a subscription. For example, a 20-hour subscription costs 40-50 euros. For a deposit of 3 euros, you will be given a special bracelet, which is an electronic key to all services in the bathhouse. When entering, this bracelet must be applied to the turnstile. Your personal locker will be displayed at a special display using a bracelet. When leaving the bath, you must put on a bracelet to stop time.

Apartment owners often offer discount coupons to their tourists. Do I need to take anything to the lake? It is advisable to take bathrobes, dry towels, beach slippers, swimming circles (in stores their price ranges on average from 3.8-4.5 euros, but you can ask for a circle in the pool, then it will cost free).

The Heviz pass includes mud in the open part of the lake and a salt cave. If you have any questions, please contact the staff; among them there is always at least one Russian speaker (by the way, the badges indicate the flags of the countries whose language the employee speaks). In addition, there are a lot of Russians on the lake - it’s incredibly easy to find a soul mate!

  • Many vacationers recommend buying a ten-hour pass. In total it is much cheaper than all the others.
  • There are Sberbank ATMs in Heviz, which is very beneficial for saving money while traveling. There are also ATMs with a choice of Russian menus. Try to use cards when paying for services, food, rent, etc. Terminals are available at most service locations. Think about how much you can save in euros without cashing them out unnecessarily (of course, you should always have the cash you need to enter the country with you, but smart tourists take it home later).
  • (especially for those staying in apartments). It is best to make an appointment with your chosen doctor by email! The hotel will most likely tell you that there are no places available or will offer you a date in a week or a week and a half.

What to see in the area

All life in this place is centered around the lake, but, nevertheless, if you want to see the surrounding area, soak in the history and see colorful Hungary, pay attention to the excursions advertised everywhere. The price of these is 40-80 euros for a variety of directions.

While relaxing on Lake Heviz at your leisure you can see:

Budapest - Heviz: how to get there - this is the question asked by most tourists who fly to the Hungarian capital in order to move to the unique thermal lake. In fact, there are not so many answer options, but I will talk about all of them in this article. I’ll also tell you how you can save money if you order a transfer from Budapest to Heviz. Let's talk about everything in order.

There are two main ways to get from Budapest to Heviz

  1. By bus.
  2. By car.

If everything is clear with the first method (buy a ticket, get on the bus and go in the right direction), then the second has a number of nuances. I will definitely dwell on each below.

From Budapest to Heviz by bus

Buses from Budapest to Heviz depart from Budapest Nepliget bus station and go straight to Heviz bus station, from where you can walk to almost any hotel and apartment in the resort. There are more than 10 flights per day from the Hungarian capital to the thermal lake (from early morning to late evening), the travel time is about 2.5 hours. See the schedule on the website menetrendek.hu, but it is only in English.

The cost of a bus ticket from Budapest to Heviz starts from 3,700 forints (about 12 euros). You can buy a ticket at the Nepliget bus station, and it is also sold online. The carrier’s website (I’ll give you the English version right away) is volanbusz.hu/en. Select the Domestic tickets tab.

If you don’t know how to buy a ticket online, write in the comments. If there are many requests, I will write an article or make a video instruction on buying bus tickets online.

The buses on Hungarian roads are excellent: large and comfortable, most have Wi-Fi.

Now about the discounts. Children under six years of age and pensioners over 65 years of age can ride the route Budapest - Heviz for free. However, in the latter case, free travel is only provided to older people who have Hungarian citizenship or citizenship of any other EU country. In general, share your experience, who traveled to Heviz by bus, and who managed to get what kind of discount.

Children aged 6 to 14 years and students can get a 50% discount on tickets. Again, it is not known for certain whether foreign students (for example, Russian) who hold an ISIC card can count on a discount. The carrier’s website does not mention them, but one of the readers said that he traveled on an intercity bus using ISIC at a discount.

The bus ticket price includes transportation hand luggage and two pieces of luggage. There is a special compartment for suitcases.

From Budapest to Heviz: train + bus

Almost everywhere an alternative bus service is by train, but in the case of Heviz the option is not entirely convenient. Although I myself would choose it, since I love trains more than buses.

The main disadvantage of this method is that you can get directly to resort town It won't work by train - Railway there is no route to Heviz. But you can buy a train ticket on the route Budapest - Keszthely, and from there take a bus to Heviz. Keszthely and Heviz are only six kilometers from each other. I personally rode a bicycle from one city to another several times.

Trains to Keszthely depart from Budapest South Railway Station (Déli pályaudvar). Travel time is 3 hours 20 minutes. At least five trains leave per day, usually more. You can buy a ticket at any train station in Budapest - at the ticket office or from the machine (). I recommend buying tickets on the Hungarian Railways website - how to do it (don't forget to like the video if it was useful). The ticket price is the same for all flights - 3,700 forints (II class carriage).

Upon arrival at Train Station In Keszthely you need to go to the bus station, which is 100 meters away. To Heviz the bus is coming 15 minutes, full ticket price: 400 forints.

The bus station in Heviz is located on Deák tér square.

As I already wrote, from here to your hotel/apartment you'll have to go on your own, because public transport not in the town. True, you can take a taxi.

Budapest – Heviz: how to get there by car

If you want to get from Budapest to Heviz even faster, then a car will help you. The options are as follows:

  1. Come with your own car/rent one.
  2. Order a group/individual transfer.

If you drive your own car or rent one, then the issues of toll roads and parking in Budapest, Heviz and other Hungarian cities that you plan to visit will be relevant to you. Separate articles are devoted to them: about, about and other cities.

The distance from Budapest to Heviz is 190 kilometers. If you drive on the toll highway. For those who like to save money and do not want to buy an electronic vignette, the distance will increase to 200 kilometers. Is it true, the savings will be doubtful, because for the difference in kilometers you will have to pay with gasoline, which in Hungary costs euros and kopecks per liter. And don’t forget about time: the journey in the first case will take about two hours, in the second – a little more than three.

Autobahns in Hungary are just what you need: at least two lanes (there are sections with three and even four lanes) with perfect coverage. Turn on the cruise control at 130 km/h (the maximum speed limit on the autobahn) and go.

Hungary is rich thermal resorts, but Lake Heviz has a special place among them. The healing properties of the water in the lake made it a popular resort among Europeans 200 years ago. Here they treat diseases of the joints, spine, nervous system, skin, and restore after injuries. For therapeutic effect you need to stay at the resort for at least 2 weeks. How to organize independent holiday on Lake Heviz in Hungary? Will a trip without a ticket be cheaper than a tour, or will it not be possible to save money? When to go and how to get there?

There is entertainment in Heviz, and attractions in the neighboring towns near Lake Balaton. But most tourists come not to admire the beauty, but for health. Many are on crutches and in wheelchairs. For people with disabilities health at the resort everything is thought out and convenient.

They don’t swim or swim in the lake - they “hang out” on inflatable rings here so as not to overload the heart. Heviz is categorically not recommended for children under 12 years of age; there are contraindications for adults as well - radon in the water has a strong effect on the body.

Of course, the hotels have swimming pools with regular and thermal water, there are excellent spa treatments and wellness centers, it’s nice to walk around the town, and the restaurants offer amazing cuisine and wine. But Budapest and other cities have all this, and Lake Heviz is unique.

Should you go to Lake Heviz on your own or buy a tour?

Since the early 2000s, Russians have flocked to Heviz, mainly on tours. The resort gradually rebuilt itself from German guests to Russian-speaking ones. If you don’t know Hungarian and English, you won’t get lost in Heviz: in hotels, restaurants, and hospitals they speak Russian. Doctors will understand you and give you treatment programs in Russian.

It’s easy to come to Heviz on your own without a travel agency:

  1. buy a plane ticket;
  2. get a Schengen visa.

Will the trip be cheaper? This depends on the thoroughness of the preparation. For example, with Wizz Air you can find round-trip tickets from 4,500 rubles, but to do this you need to track prices. Apartments in Heviz, as in other cities of Hungary, are more profitable than hotels, but not all are represented in popular booking systems; prices are lower on Hungarian and German sites, starting from 10 euros.

But you won’t be able to save on treatment: prices for visiting the lake are official, and paying “into the doctor’s pocket” is not accepted. The pond is fenced on all sides, even if you do not need procedures. To “just take a dip” you have to pay.

Some prices for 2017

  • Ticket to the lake for 3 hours - 2,600 HUF;
  • Unlimited time ticket for 1 day - 4,500 HUF;
  • Subscription for 10 hours, valid for 10 days in a row, you can enter the lake 2 times a day - 7500 HUF;
  • 20-hour subscription for 20 days, entrance to the lake 2 times a day - 14,000 HUF;
  • For citizens over 60 years of age (3 hours). Upon presentation of an identity card - 2100 HUF;
  • Relax ticket for 4 hours with a visit to the lake and wellness center - 4000 HUF;
  • Doctor's appointment with health assessment + follow-up examination - 8500 HUF;
  • Underwater exhaust 20 min. — 4000 HUF;
  • Mud application 20 min. — 4500 HUF.

Best time to go to Heviz

The resort welcomes guests at any time of the year. In summer, the water in the lake is very warm - up to +36 degrees, in winter it cools down to +22. The coldest, windiest and least sunny month is February. At this time, housing prices are at their lowest.

All advertising brochures say that you can always swim in the lake. This is true. But in winter it is not very comfortable to swim out from under a glass cover into an open body of water; the temperature contrast is for the hardened. If you walk through the passages from the building to the descent into the lake in a swimsuit, then it feels like walking naked on the beach in winter Sochi.

In the closed part of the lake, the water concentration is weaker. Hotels have thermal pools, but the composition of the water is different. It is better to find out whether it has medicinal properties or not from a doctor who usually works at the hotel.

You can look at the weather and conditions in Heviz using the city webcam broadcast on the official website.

  • Pay attention to the warning signs on the lake, near pump rooms with mineral water and to the advice of doctors to avoid health complications;
  • Children under 6 years old have free entry to the lake; game room, playground and swimming pool. Children from 12 years old are allowed into the wellness center and saunas;
  • On the territory of the bathhouse there is a restaurant that is open in the summer, rental of swimsuits and swimming rings, outdoor exercise equipment, a salt room, free sun loungers;
  • If you bought a one-time ticket to Lake Heviz and did not use it, it is lost - you cannot return it or go another day.

Mass of useful up-to-date information in Russian on the official website of the Heviz resort - all about medicinal properties water, map, city news, hotel offers. Here you can find out more about tourist map Hévíz Card+, which gives discounts on entry to attractions, lake visits, transfers and other services.

How to get from the airport to Heviz on your own
