Tsandripsh (the old name of the village is Gantiadi) is a quiet and cozy resort on the Black Sea, located just 5 km from the Russian-Abkhaz border. The small and unassuming Abkhazian place is especially in demand among those who prefer to tour on their own by car. Thanks to convenient transport interchanges and the nearby Sukhumi highway, even for an inexperienced traveler it will not be difficult to quickly get to any populated area of ā€‹ā€‹the republic.
Previously, Tsandripsh was enough popular resort. Vacationers from all over the USSR came here in search of calm and measured recreation among palm trees, cypresses, magnolias and oleanders. Today, after a long decline, travel business is gradually gaining momentum, every year more and more campsites, boarding houses and sanatoriums are opening in the village. Living in the private sector with hospitable and friendly hosts who rent out their homes for a nominal fee has not lost its relevance.

History of the development of Tsandripsh

The history of Tsandripsh goes back more than 10 thousand years. Locality was famous throughout the Caucasus as one of the largest and richest ports, which was visited daily by ships carrying goods from Crimea, Constantinople and other Black Sea cities. Merchants came here to participate in fairs and buy honey, wax, utensils, high-quality fabric and clothing from local residents. Historical vicissitudes contributed to either the extinction or the revival of the village, which eventually became part of the Russian village of Pilenkovo, and hosted on its territory one of the bloodiest battles during the struggle to establish Soviet power.
The modern period of Tsadripsha's heyday occurred in the 50s of the 20th century. The village grew, tobacco and wine production began to develop, large houses appeared, shops, cafes and cinemas opened. The first camping site began operating in 1955, and since then, crowds of tourists come here every year to improve their health, swim in the clear sea and enjoy the scenery. extraordinary beauty.

Climate and natural conditions of Tsandripsh

Tsandripsh received special recognition in Abkhazia and beyond as an ideal place for children, teenagers and family vacation, for which all conditions have been created here. The climate of the village is mild, the predominance of sunny days and comfortable temperatures is clearly visible. Weather in Tsandripsha in summer time Consistently warm, thanks to the gentle terrain and clear sea. The swimming season is quite long - it lasts from May to October, traditionally the hottest months are July and August. A special feature of the sea water off the coast of Abkhazia is its low salt content (18 g/liter), making swimming here extremely pleasant and a pleasure.

There are no sandy beaches in Abkhazia - the entire coastal zone is covered with pebbles with small inclusions of shells. The beach in Tsandripsh is straight and long, 5 km long and up to 200 m wide in some places, the entrance to the sea is perfectly flat, convenient even for the smallest children. The surface of the water is emerald-azure, the snow-white tops of the waves are visible on the horizon, and during the daytime a pleasant and refreshing breeze filled with iodine particles blows into your face.
The gentle sun quickly heats up the coastal pebbles, so swimming in the sea and air baths can begin from the very early morning. The sound of the sea surf gives peace and tranquility, and in the water area you can watch fishing boats or frolicking dolphins.
Tourists can rent jet skis, parachutes and catamarans, beach accessories: sun loungers and umbrellas, mattresses, vests. Scuba divers and snorkeling enthusiasts have chosen wild beach of extraordinary beauty called ā€œWhite Rocksā€ with crystal clear water and an underwater world that amazes even the most experienced diver. Formed due to the exposure of layers of marble to the surface, the rocks perfectly reflect sunlight, and therefore the tan here lies especially evenly.

Sights of Tsandripsh

A stay in the village will appeal to lovers of excursions. Tsandripsh, its shrines and attractions are known far beyond the borders of Abkhazia: historical monuments, temples, monasteries, ruins of ancient fortresses and basilicas, natural parks, delightful canyons, picturesque river mouths.
In the center of Tsandripsh there is the main historical monument region - a temple of the 6th-8th centuries. Built from voluminous limestone blocks and decorated with carved marble elements, the sanctuary has been well preserved to this day. Nearby are the remains of the fortress walls and foundations of the ancient city of Tsandripsh, as well as a cemetery with tombs of the 6th-11th centuries.
Near the sea, you can admire the Gantiad Basilica, built in the 6th century. AD The vaults, partly the walls and the font for the Christian baptismal rite have survived to this day. The temple is decorated with a large amount of Turkish marble and was considered one of the largest religious monasteries in which Abkhazia is rich. Tsandripsh was actively upset during the Middle Ages; in the vicinity of the village there is a unique Khashup fortress, perfectly preserved to this day. Powerful walls with quadrangular towers served as good protection for the local population, who took refuge there from enemy raids.
Throughout Abkhazia, the sights of Tsandripsh are represented by an impressive variety of objects, including those of natural origin. Lovers of natural beauty will appreciate the Grand Canyon of the Khashupse River. You can get here by SUV, overcoming the difficult terrain, but the landscapes that open up captivate you from the first minute, leaving an unforgettable mark on your soul.
The attractions and entertainment of Tsandripsh are not limited to historical or natural monuments. Due to the presence of three mountain rivers in the area, one of the directions active rest here is rafting along the waterway on inflatable boats. This sport can be organized or extreme, when rafters independently overcome rapids and turbulent streams.

Infrastructure of Tsandripsh

The tourist infrastructure of the village is sufficiently developed. Every tourist here can find something to their liking. Accommodation facilities are presented by a large number of options for every taste and budget: comfortable hotels, mini-hotels, estates, boarding houses, and the private sector. IN high season discos, nightclubs, bars and cafes are open on the shore. Popular restaurants offer Russian, Caucasian and European cuisine, and in the evenings you can enjoy live national or modern music.
You can try fresh and delicious locally produced products at reasonable prices. Several times a week there are markets that offer fresh vegetables, fruits, cheeses, herbs, homemade wine and chacha, dried fish, and soft drinks. Abkhazian nectarines, peaches, figs, grapes, watermelons and nuts are especially tasty. In autumn, pomegranate and kiwi are harvested here, and in winter - sweet and fragrant tangerines.
Street vendors offer souvenirs, pottery, memorable gifts, national fabrics or items made by hand using ancient technologies.

The small urban village of Tsandripsh is located in the Gagra region of Abkhazia. The population is about 10 thousand people. I would call it an Armenian village, because I didnā€™t have a chance to see Abkhazians.

I asked our hostess:

Where are the Abkhazians?

She explained:

Abkhazians live high in the mountains, and there are only two of them left in the village.

The village of Tsandripsh is sandwiched between the federal highway leading from Adler to Sukhumi and the old neglected Sukhumi railway running along the seashore. So avoid on the way to the beach railway no way. You can get through: either by overcoming the embankment with the railway track, or from below - through a tunnel.

We noticed two tunnels in the village: one closer to the center, the other on the outskirts - in the White Rocks area. We were able to see the train going to Sukhum a couple of times - the train was very short, only a few cars.

And now I would like to talk about the warmest and nicest place in the village - the White Rocks. This is perhaps the main attraction of Tsandripsh. The White Rocks are located at the exit from the village towards the Kholodnaya River. You can reach them in about an hour in two ways: either by the seashore or along the main street towards Gagra.

The rocks are really absolutely white and smooth, lying right at the water's edge. They were created by nature itself - and the sea waves have painstakingly worked for centuries to polish them.

The central street, Oktyabrskaya, pierces the entire village and unites beyond its borders with federal highway. This street is a very pitiful sight - most of the houses are in gaping ruins, so it is better not to look around.

At the foot of the destroyed buildings there are open kiosks under bright umbrellas - these are retail outlets selling some souvenirs, beach accessories and small items. Trade brightens up the feeling of devastation a little.

In the fragments of the first floors of houses that have been preserved in some places, there are small shops selling groceries or pharmacies. There are several cafes in the village and even a canteen on the corner of Lenin Street - but the very appearance of these establishments is repulsive. At the beginning of the main street, near the bus station, there is a small and scarce fruit and vegetable market.

I note that there has been no post office in the village since the war. We asked the hostess many times: how could this be? There was only one answer: there is no post office in the village. We also learned from her stories that in past years Tsandripsh was quite comfortable and prosperous.

Several successful enterprises operated - a winery, canning and crushed stone factories, and a tobacco factory. Wine and tobacco were produced under the mark of quality and were mainly exported. Now none of this is there - everything is destroyed and looted.

If you walk a little deeper from the main street into the residential area, the eye immediately catches the contrasts. Houses are clearly divided into three main types: miserable, dilapidated shacks, solid, newly rebuilt houses, and unfinished huge mansions, long abandoned by their owners - most likely during the war.

The only food market, where the population actually buys food, is open only three times a week: Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Active trading begins at 6 am, and after 11 there is nothing to do there - you canā€™t buy food. Prices are very high, much higher than in Moscow. I'll write about them a little later.

I would like to note an important detail: there is no embankment in the village - there is only a long pebble beach. There is nowhere to walk in the evening - no park, no square - just vacant lots. Thatā€™s why vacationing young people like to hang out on the beach at night: guitars, music and beer brought with them - everything is there...

Abkhazia has very short daylight hours - it gets dark early. Absolute darkness sets in around eight o'clock in the evening. And in the evening, only one central street in the village is illuminated - and thatā€™s in the place where the 24-hour store is located...

There is nowhere to go. Therefore, during the long Abkhaz evenings, vacationing people are doomed to either watch TV, or stupidly drink beer, or try to sleep after nine in the evening... True, this is problematic - pop music thunders from the only restaurant in the village until four in the morning. By the way, in the evening you can only get to this establishment with a flashlight in your hand, otherwise you will break your legs; only the main street in the village is paved.

Closer to the morning, when the restaurant rhythms fall silent and you try to fall asleep, another story begins: packs stray dogs they organize battles on a huge garbage heap, towering right in the center of Lenin Street.

Since we are talking about the animal world, we should also mention other representatives of the fauna. Chickens roam freely on the streets, finding their food in the same street mountains of garbage.

Not only do stray cats walk here on their own, but you can also suddenly meet a cow. One morning I headed to the grocery store and on the street I met a lonely horned cow, which accompanied me on the way there and back.

If we talk about small animals, I saw real scorpions for the first time. They constantly lived on the walls of our toilet, coexisting peacefully with huge fat snails. And at night, evil mosquitoes attacked - but these are trifles.

I have already said about the global mountain of garbage on the street named after the proletarian leader, which was shared by dogs at night and chickens during the day. Imagine another picture like this. In front of the tunnel leading to the beach, I had to watch Russian resort ladies in hats and multi-colored pareos parading in the direction of the beach.

And the old womanā€™s daily fashion show took place against the backdrop of three unchanged scenery: a huge garbage dump, an old abandoned cafe and a local peasant sitting by the road. This little guy was selling some kind of red wine bottled in plastic bottles, as well as a local delicacy - dead stingrays, spread out at the bottom of an old zinc trough...

Just beyond the tunnel there is a pebble beach. However, getting closer to the blue sea is not so easy. To begin with, we had to go around the beach garbage heaps, consisting of the results of the vital activity of vacationers for holiday season. A ridge of garbage mountains stretched along the entire beach - all the way to the White Rocks.

There was not a single place for swimming on the entire shore - there were no small pebbles to enter the sea. So there was only one opportunity to swim - to swim in special shoes or directly in flip-flops.

There werenā€™t many people on the beach, but it was still not possible to swim calmly in the sea. Hot horsemen on their jet skis and motorboats rushed right over the heads of the swimming public - trying to attract the attention of vacationers and earn as much money as possible at the end of the fading season...

I forgot to mention the theft of money by local telecom operators. In Moscow, we prudently put a decent amount of money on our phones - just in case there is a fireman. We did not have information that when crossing the border it is necessary to manually select an operator.

Three days after our arrival, four thousand rubles disappeared. We spoke with Moscow only a few times, and very briefly.

And when we went to find out the reasons for the outage at the local communications office, they popularly explained to us old fools that there was nothing unusual here. As soon as visitors get into the coverage area of ā€‹ā€‹the local network, their money is like that...

Continued in part five

We vacationed in July 2019 in guest houseā€œBy the Seaā€ by Irina and Andrey Makurov.
The house is large, clean, with all amenities, there is a kitchen where you can always cook yourself a meal.
But there is one BUT, the owners of this house, to our great regret, were not very hospitable, living in this house was not at all comfortable for us:
-On the top floor, in the room we lived in, there was an unpleasant smell of sewage, especially in the evening.
-On top of that, the owner of the house, Andrey, despite the specially designated smoking area, which we were warned about upon arrival, could afford to smoke throughout the entire house, even in the presence of children.
-if you want to go to the sea at 7-8 in the morning, itā€™s not a fact that you will go out, you will have to wake up the owners so that they open the gate for you.
-Irina and Andrey will be kind and smiling with you only if you order excursions from them, buy their homemade wine, compotes (at not cheap prices)
The owner of the house, Irina, is a person simply obsessed with cleanliness. I understand everything, keeping someone elseā€™s house in order is basic things, eat and clean up, but not as fanatically, you live in the house and are afraid to take an extra step. Well, around the house, try not to walk so as not to cause sand...
At the end of our vacation, our child fell ill. We did not see any help or sympathy from the owners.
So, dear vacationers, think ten times before going to this guest house.
We didn't like it and we don't recommend it to anyone.
Keep in mind that in the main VKontakte group all negative reviews are deleted, which is very strange.

remember the address, Oktyabrskaya, 45, guest rooms Sangria
Never come to this house on vacation. All . what is written is not true. Only rooms and then with broken TVs. So, itā€™s not 100 steps to the sea (it was written 50 meters before our presence) but 600 meters, and even
avoiding a muddy puddle. called a river with crystal clear water. IN FANTASY!!! Moreover, the owner, KAREN, calls it a warm river with a jacuzzi!!! Where you can supposedly swim. HORROR. No fishing, no blooming garden, and mother Anaida, always giving instructions, where to go and where not to go. You wonā€™t be able to use gas for long, itā€™s expensive, you canā€™t buy anything, everything is for sale, etc. Do not make any advance payments!!! As the most honest person, KAREN does not return her, but only then calls her names and tries to kick you out quickly. so he lives on fraudulent money. The dining room is dirty with a dirt floor and dirty dishes, with leaking slate, so itā€™s always dirty.

The Abkhaz owner Dzhambul and the Georgian hostess Marina were visiting a private owner in Tsandripsha. Very nice, clean and responsive people. I'm happy with my vacation. Negative impressions were more than compensated by pleasant hosts, clear water (calm or moderate waves) and a free, spacious shore. As for negative emotions, these are mountains of garbage along the shore (that is, on the beach). I didnā€™t see anyone cleaning the shore. Only the owners of recreational facilities are involved in landscaping. And they do it well. Request: make the recreation area clear of garbage.

Advantages:

  • incomparable nature
  • beautiful clear sea
  • very tasty compote of their feijoa
  • good, not expensive cafes

Flaws:

  • theft
  • robberies
  • wild beach
  • it takes 2 days to get there by train
  • expensive tickets,
  • expensive products
  • little transport
  • not enough fruit:(, locals donā€™t sell fruit

After reading the reviews and being inspired, my husband, three-year-old child and I decided to go to Abkhazia. The closest to the border (only 5-7 minutes by car), but little known resort place is the VILLAGE of Tsandripsh. I didnā€™t just clarify that this is a village, keep this in mind and donā€™t expect to see paved embankments and landscaped beaches with sun loungers and umbrellas in front of you. Moreover, cows roam the village, and locals drive cars and motorcycles like crazy. However, the nature there is wonderful! The sea is clean, blue, large pebbles and a strip of coarse sand. Dolphins were seen almost near the shore several times. There is some entertainment on the beach, in the form of a banana and a bun, as well as Boat trip. A sun lounger can be purchased for the day for 100 rubles. There are quite a lot of excursions offered.

We booked a guest house in advance, ā€œZhannaā€, I will write about it later, I donā€™t want to go deeper. And if it weren't for those good conditions stay impressions of the holiday could be very bad.

I wanted to note that we lived at the very beginning of the village, st. Sholokhov. By main road There are a couple of cafes, but we chose one that we liked and ate there all the time. Itā€™s called ā€œGlacierā€, if you choose Tsandripsh and stay nearby, I recommend it. They offer home cooking. Borscht, noodle soup, okroshka, cutlets, goulash, buckwheat, pilaf, salads, French fries and much more. Shish kebab, of course, is available at the ridiculous price of 70 rubles. 100g. Drinks 20 rubles. Beer 55 rubles. Everything is always prepared fresh, so you will need to wait a little. The food is always tasty and fresh. The average bill for a family of 2 adults and a child is 400 rubles.

You can, of course, cook on your own, all owners of rental housing have this opportunity, but be prepared for the fact that the products are more expensive than ours, some of them very significantly. The saddest thing is that fruits and vegetables turned out to be expensive and imported. And at the end of August, you can only buy figs from the locals (even though we had to wander around the village for a long time looking for those who were selling them). Everyone's grapes are mostly wine grapes and are not sold.

You can go to the center of Tsandripsh and buy everything you need at the market. The prices are not significantly higher, but there is a choice. They're walking minibuses approximately 30-50 rubles per person and a minibus 10 rubles. Itā€™s a pity that the owners didnā€™t tell us how and where to get there; out of ignorance, they constantly deceived us and charged us much more for travel.

Please note that public transport stops running at sunset, no later than 7 pm, you can only get back by taxi. Which is not very cheap there, despite the fact that you eat in a few minutes.

I want to pay special attention to intestinal infections! Everyone who vacationed with us and we ourselves were ill, children are especially seriously ill. With a temperature below 40, diarrhea and vomiting. Believe me, it's very scary! Moreover, this happened on the 5th day of stay. Be sure to take a full first aid kit with you. Antipyretic, charcoal, enterol, smecta are a must. Of course, you can buy everything there, but if you get sick, you wonā€™t have time to run around.

Well, the most unpleasant thing that the guests of our yard encountered was robbery. They steal terribly and brazenly. In broad daylight, car windows are broken and both personal belongings and cars are stolen. And there are very, very many victims from all over Abkhazia at the embassy. So be careful and alert, especially if you go by car. Credit cards Donā€™t take them, they wonā€™t be of any use to you there.

If you stay in Tsandripsh, there is a chance that you will still have a Russian connection, at least that was the case for us. But when approaching the sea, I changed to local. These are the miracles.

In any case, enjoy your holiday and most importantly stay positive. Then you wonā€™t notice any troubles .

Advantages:

  • Climatic conditions
  • near the sea

Flaws:

  • Passing the border
  • inflated prices for products.

Hello everyone, I want to leave my review about village of Tsandripsh. I read a lot on the Internet before going there on vacation. Let me start with the fact that to get to Abkhazia you will need to cross 2 borders, Russian and Abkhazian. If you arrive early in the morning, you will pass quickly, but by lunchtime you will get tired of standing around waiting, especially with children. The nature is really beautiful with numerous species of plants, trees, the sea is clean, sometimes of course there was an influx of jellyfish, dead and no, but they were not dangerous. There are few shops and the prices are much higher, you canā€™t eat cheaply in a cafe, we didnā€™t like the cafe ā€œU BORIā€, you can also find better cafe for such prices! But homemade wine, chacha, and cognac can be bought in every home. As for fruits, the prices are the same as in our HOMELAND, even here in Tatarstan they are cheaper. They make money on us from tourists, they know that we canā€™t buy anything, we canā€™t go anywhere, so they tear us down. The only thing that made us happy was the warm sea and the ownersā€™ swimming pool; we rested in a mini-hotel near Aida on Lenin 79. But in general, you can go and relax once for a change!

General impression: Calm and quiet getaway.

Positive reviews

We vacationed in Tsandripsha for the first time in 2017. had a great time. the owners are wonderful. The attitude of locals towards tourists is good. no attacks against us. there were no tourists either. Prices on the market are reasonable. You can safely negotiate a price drop. in shops. The prices are also ok. nearby where we were relaxing in a private house. There is a private cafe. the prices are excellent. the service is excellent. everything was as we were offered to relax in the house. That's how it was. purely. culturally. calmly. The sea is clean. good. This year in August we are going to them.

Good afternoon, forum members.

It was our first time in Abkhazia. We stopped in the village. Tsandripsh, on the street. Gorkogo 30 (private house). The owner's name is Susanna, we agreed with her in advance, the wife's colleague advised, personal experience. We mainly prefer ā€œsealā€ vacations (beach, sea, without much movement around the surrounding area), but this time we went on an excursion to the mountains, waterfalls, Lake Ritsa, and once again we went to the water park in Gagry. But first things first...

Let's start with the pros:

  • Sea. We were there for 12 days, during which time the sea was dirty for 2 days - it brought garbage, snags, sticks, the water was yellow. The rest of the time, the sea was gorgeous! This made both us and our daughter (4.5 years old) very happy. There were few people on the beach, no crowd. Although the beach itself was not very clean, there were piles of garbage, driftwood and traces of fires...
  • Weather. There was no rain, only on the first night after arrival. The rest of the time it's hot! I tolerated it fine, my wife suffered a little. Of course, in the afternoon, from 13 to 17, we left the beach... But this is much better than rain or cloudy skies.
  • Excursion. The hostess's husband took us, he does excursions. We went to Gagra, then to the mountains, along waterfalls (with jeeping, tasting drinks and honey), then to Ritsa, back to Gagra and home. In the morning we left at 8-00 and returned around 17-00. I really liked everything, the mountains, Lake Ritsa, waterfalls, a trip along the rocky ā€œpathā€ to the Gegsky waterfall... in general, a sea of ā€‹ā€‹new impressions. At the end everyone was tired, but very happy. I liked the trip to the water park less - ticket 1000 rubles / adult. and 700r/child. But there is not as much entertainment there as we would like. We had lunch at a cafe there - not cheap. And the weather was not very favorable - so we left there at about 3 pm. But the children liked it, of course, more than we did (we went as two families).
  • Attitude of the owners of the house. The house is not new, the conditions are not as comfortable as possible (there was no air conditioning, shower and toilet on the floor, it was a 10-15 minute walk to the sea), but overall I liked everything. The owners are simple people, their attitude was humane. We were met at the border and taken back on the last day. In general, thanks to these kind people for shelter.
  • Nutrition. We didnā€™t cook ourselves (there was a summer kitchen in the house), we ate at a local cafe. The cafe is not far from the beach, called "Zakutok". The atmosphere there, of course, is unpretentious, a simple summer cafe. But the attitude of the staff and the quality of the food were great. Hello Vika, Masha and Tati. We also went to another cafe, a little further from us, and there was also an example of a cafe in the water park - according to our impressions, ā€œZakutkaā€ had the most delicious food. And this is when reasonable prices(breakfast - 300 rubles, lunch and dinner - 500-600 rubles for three, with a child). And, by the way, there was no hint that the food was not fresh either...

Now about the cons:

  • I didnā€™t like the attitude of some local people towards us as tourists. People have already written about this before, I will repeat it - it seems that many local merchants think that tourists pour money out of all the natural orifices of the body, and an extra couple of hundred rubles will not burden anyone. It was not pleasant.
  • Prices in stores were the same as in the Moscow region. This was an unpleasant surprise. We thought that milk, bread and some other basic things would be cheaper. But this did not spoil the holiday, of course, it was just not a very pleasant fact.
  • Previous authors noted - I repeat: everywhere is quite dirty, unkempt... I wrote above about the beach, in the village itself the situation is the same. I think that this has been going on since 92-93, when everything collapsed and there was no one to take care of roads and other infrastructure. But, again, we came to enjoy the sea, mountains and clean air, and not to note the facts of the communal disorder of the village. Therefore, this is so, ā€œnotes along the wayā€, which had little impact on the impressions of the holiday))

To sum up, we were satisfied with our vacation, once again I want to thank our hosts from Gorky 30, Susanna and Arthur - thank you very much for everything! We will definitely return to Abkhazia next year - we understand that of all the beauties we did not see even 1/10 of them...

Advantages:

  • Attitude
  • Nature

Flaws

  • There were none in 2009!

Details:

Abkhazia - These are my best memories of vacation... It was in 2009 after the aggression of Georgia pushed by the United States... As a result, the attitude of the Abkhaz people was as warm as ever towards visiting vacationers from Russia!!! We were together with my girlfriend, and now my wife... Tsandrypsh former Gantiadi (in Georgian) the residents of Abkhazia were very unhappy when they heard the name of their city based on a Georgian motif. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were always in the same cafe. We were very pleased with the prices; for a hearty meal we spent only 150 rubles for two (hodgepodge, mashed potatoes with a cutlet, a 1-liter bottle of beer (I think Marmara), a glass of wine (homemade) for my girlfriend and sliced ā€‹ā€‹cheese). I will never forget the owner of the cafe, a cheerful old man who treated everyone every evening at his own expense and at the same time said, ā€œIf it werenā€™t for you Russians, we Abkhazians would not exist on these lands! Thank you!!!" maybe something different, but the meaning is clear, and the dancing began. I was amazed by the cleanliness of the beaches natural beauty Three hundred meters from the beach close to the Donskoy Tabak sanatorium and the old train station there are white stones, when we approached them we couldnā€™t believe our eyes, the bright white stones located on the seashore are simply amazing. Next to the old station building there are posters for excursions, there are plenty of them for different wallets. We were on one excursion, we chose our own route and walked slowly; the nature is impressive, there are a lot of abandoned buildings that are beautiful in their architecture. The only excursion, according to the locals, that you should never agree to is driving a UAZ in the mountains, there are many cases of injury, even death... I donā€™t know how it is now, but in 2009 the medical conditions there were very bad!!! The gays are disappointed if they see that a car with Russian license plates is driving, they will stop them for any reason, but they will find something to complain about... If you donā€™t agree, they confiscate your license and go to the main department and prove that you are right (so be kind enough to pay from 100 to 500 for each stop)... Yes, one more minus customs there are no brothers there, if in Abkhazia they smile at you, then the same people at customs are ready to stick a knife in your back... They donā€™t have the audacity to use a rod to bypass the line with trunks. Getting through customs during the holiday season can take up to 5.6 hours. For those in a hurry, there is a stall nearby where you go through this hours-long queue as if through a portal. Of course, not for the pretty eyes. For this reason, Abkhazian customs makes me happy; they greet you with a smile; they donā€™t even look through documents; they trust Russian customs)))ā€¦

Advantages:

  • beauty

Flaws:

  • In principle, we can say that there are no disadvantages

We live in St. Petersburg, and this is what we learned this summer: the most convenient way to get to Tsandripsh is not by car, but by train.

By car you can get stuck in front of the border for a very long time. Friends stood for 5 hours last year, we stood for more than 3 hours. But on the train - a nice thing! It goes according to schedule, customs officers check it very quickly. This is the nuance.

Tsandripsh is a quiet and cozy place. Everyone who has ever been there returns again and again. Nature is so beautiful. How breathtaking! From the window of our guest house we saw the mountains. In the evenings we went out onto the balcony and admired the view.

The sea is clean. However, this year (in June) we were not too lucky with the weather. The sea was rough, and it wasn't particularly hot. But, despite the fact that the sea constantly threw small garbage and algae onto the beach, the beaches are clean, they are constantly cleaned.

There were a lot of drunk tourists this year compared to previous years. But what can you do, you had to put up with it. But in the village there are shops (though the prices in them are the same as in St. Petersburg), a pharmacy, cafes and restaurants.

You can stay in the private sector, in a boarding house or in guest houses. The latter is affordable and quite comfortable (we paid 300 per person).

General impression: What is the most convenient way to get to Tsandripsh?

Good day everyone!!! We just returned from our vacation in Abkhazia, in the village Tsandripsh (formerly Gandiadi), my son and I are simply delighted!!! Words cannot express how much we liked it and how much we didnā€™t want to leave. Irina and Andreyā€™s guest house is simply an idyll for relaxation, everything is thought out to the smallest detail for a perfect vacation, friendly and attentive attitude towards all vacationers. The sea is not far away and very clean, everything you need is within walking distance. Lovers of active recreation also have a place to roam, the owners offer many excursions to the sights of Abkhazia. I would like to go back there again!!!

We rested from August 19 to 27 with Andrey and Irina, our first trip to Abkhazia. Excellent house, hospitable owners. Many people frightened us about the unsanitary conditions in Tsandripsha, and in Abkhazia in general, itā€™s nonsense. This house has excellent conditions, clean rooms with new furniture, bed linen and towels. Shared kitchen - all conditions for cooking: dishes. stoves, kettles, there was never a queue in the kitchen to cook or heat food. The sea is nearby, 5 minutes walk, there are not as many people on the beach as in other villages, the beach is clean. The hosts offer excursions with reliable escorts. And special thanks to Andrey and Irina for treating us to figs and pears. Most important point that after crossing the border, we arrogantly decided to find the house ourselves, but the Yandex map could not find it, and we had no connection. And knowing that we had crossed the border, Irina sent Andrey in search and he found us, wandering in a car :) IRINA and ANDREY, thank you for your hospitality and company.

Tsandripsh is located only 5 kilometers from the Russian border. Before you go to the resort yourself, you need to think about best route. In many ways, it depends on the initial location of the position.

Residents can take advantage of the railway connection. The Moscow-Sukhumi train departs once a day and makes a stop in Tsandripsha. If a tourist is ready to spend 36 hours on the road and pay about 3,500 thousand rubles for a reserved seat, then the train is what he needs.

But itā€™s better to order a car in advance. Under no circumstances agree to offers from local car enthusiasts. Such movement will not be safe and comfortable, especially for young passengers.

A comfortable transfer for 4 passengers will cost about 3,500 rubles, a minivan for seven seats ā€“ 4,000 rubles.

Where to stay?

If you want to experience the fullness of Abkhaz hospitality, then you should give preference. The owners treat all vacationers as dear guests. Such kind-hearted attitude towards strangers is probably in the blood of local residents. Therefore, if a tourist stays in one of the rooms in the private sector, he will feel better than at home.

Accommodation prices largely depend on the range of services. For example, does the room have air conditioning or a TV. On average it is 300 rubles per person per day. You will have to organize your own meals. Usually, summer kitchens with all the necessary utensils are provided for this purpose.

Beaches

It is not possible to find a single sandy beach on the coast of Abkhazia. The Tsandripsh resort is no exception. There is almost a 5-kilometer pebble beach with a very wide coastal strip, in some places reaching up to 200 meters.

Walking along the shore you can find shells. The entrance to the sea is very convenient. There are no sudden changes in depth, which is especially comfortable when relaxing with children.

The central beaches are equipped with showers, toilets and changing rooms. All beach equipment can be rented. Tourists can rent umbrellas, sun loungers, mattresses and vests for a day or several hours.

The sea water is slightly salted, which adds another plus to the total number of advantages of the resort.

The beach is very spacious, so vacationers can easily accommodate themselves here without disturbing each other at all.

Under the bright rays of the sun, the pebbles heat up well and do not have time to cool down overnight, so water treatments can begin at sunrise.

The sea is so smooth that sitting on the shore you can watch schools of dolphins jumping.

The only drawback is the garbage left by vacationers. Local utilities do not do their job very responsibly, so the coast can hardly be called clean.

Beach activities

The range of entertainment is varied. You can rent an ATV or have a fun ride on a banana or tablet. Waterslides, boat rides and much more will help you have fun.

Tourists especially enjoy paragliding or parachuting. There are practically no age restrictions. Even five-year-olds are allowed on the attraction. The only exception is people whose weight is close to 135 kilograms or more.

Attractions

The town is interesting in itself. Beautiful landscapes, a delightful cypress grove, a beautiful embankment always remain the center of attention among tourists.

The place has several special attractions that you should definitely find time to explore.

Tsandripsha Basilica

The temple was built back in the 7th century, and it has survived to this day almost in its original form. The building is assigned to historical heritage and is under state protection.

The temple was once very revered. Pilgrims came to it, the first Christians were baptized and buried here. This is evidenced by numerous objects found during excavations.

Khashup fortress

Climbing to the top of the cliff, you can observe a fascinating picture - indescribable nature and a view of the Gagra ridge, which is very rich in fir forests, alpine meadows and white snow peaks.

White Rocks

This is a local landmark that can be approached while walking along the shore. Some special composition of the stones prevents them from warming up in the sun. Even on the hottest day they will keep you cool. There are practically no vacationers here, so you can enjoy your time in complete solitude. The cleanliness of the coast is especially captivating. On the central beaches the shore is overflowing with garbage.

Stalin's dacha

Stalin's dacha is located a half-hour walk from the White Rocks. This is very beautiful place. A majestic building, erected on a steep slope of 350 meters, surrounded by a pine forest. Tours take place on the premises. From the windows facing the sea there is a panorama of incredible beauty.

The entire decoration of the room was carried out with special chic by decorating the walls with valuable wood species. And the windows in the building are made of crystal.

Shopping

In the center of the village is local market. There is only one paved road leading to it. Trading begins at sunrise. Usually by 10-11 am it is already winding down.

Therefore, if you want fresh homemade milk or fruit, you need to come earlier. Product prices are not high. Only meat is more expensive.

It is better to agree on the purchase of fruit in advance. Local residents have a lot of such goods, so resellers from nearby areas come to the market. The price of Tsandripsh fruits and vegetables is purely symbolic.

You should definitely try honey. You can find many items on the market. Local tea, sweets and homemade wines are very tasty.

The village has several shops stocked with all the necessary goods. Unlike the market, they are open until late in the evening.

What to try?

There are many decent establishments in the village that serve delicious food. National dishes. Restaurants and cafes at boarding houses usually serve European dishes.

In Tsandripsha, the cuisine is more similar to Georgian, so donā€™t deny yourself barbecue. Local cafes prepare chebureki and mamalyga especially deliciously. The first course is, of course, kharcho soup, and the second course is khachapuri.
