Dadonghai bars. Review of Cafe "U Lena" (China, O. Hainan) - One of the Best Cafes in the Bay. Chinese food cafe

Hello everyone, my dear readers. Today I want to tell you how much food costs in Hainan in Sanya. Let's talk about cafes, restaurants, fruits from markets, delicious ice cream and products from the supermarket.

There are many completely opposite opinions on this topic on the Internet: some say that everything is expensive, others, on the contrary, claim that you can eat for pennies. The truth, as you probably guess, is somewhere in the middle.

But I just want to tell you where we ate, how much it cost us, and what impressions this or that dish left me with, and you can draw your own conclusions as to whether these prices and the quality of food are acceptable to you.

In this article:

Cafes and restaurants

You definitely won’t go hungry in Sanya: there are cafes and restaurants at literally every turn. Here are some of the ones we had a chance to visit.

1. Food area

This place is located in Da Dong Hai Bay, not far from the main street, between the Winter and Summer shopping centers. It is a small square, along the perimeter of which there are several cafes, tables are located closer to the center of the square, and in the very center there is a stage. The food area is open in the evenings.

The exact location on the map can be found here.

I started my story from this place, as it is quite popular among tourists. It's great to sit here in the evening, eat ice cream, and enjoy a concert (I recommend visiting). But I cannot recommend it as a place for lunch or dinner, for the simple reason that the food here is not tasty.

Yes, there is a large selection of dishes here. Yes, the dishes are relatively inexpensive. But I didn't like anything here:

  • chicken kebabs - the meat doesn’t look like chicken at all, it’s even scary to imagine what it was made from (10 yuan per skewer),
  • tofu fried in soy sauce - too salty (8 yuan per piece).

The rolls with bacon and mushrooms tasted tolerable, but I can’t say they were “delicious” either.

In addition, before the trip, we knew from other tourists that it is better not to take rice or pasta dishes with meat in the square, since there will be very little meat there, and the beef is not always fried. So this rule was confirmed not only for this place, but also for some others (we’ll talk about them later). Such dishes cost from 25 yuan to about 60 yuan.

Let's just say that if I were very hungry, I wouldn't have the strength to go to another cafe, then I would take rice with vegetables and some greens here.

In general, it’s worth going here to try fried ice cream. It is prepared at a kiosk on the corner:

It's simply unreal! I highly recommend him to everyone.

For anyone who doesn't know, I'll briefly explain how it's prepared. First, take fruits (of your choice) and blend them in a blender. The finished mixture is poured into a special bowl, which is cooled from below. The mixture begins to freeze; stir it with a spatula so that it freezes evenly. After some time, when the mixture is completely frozen, put it in a glass.

This pleasure costs 20 yuan. It doesn't look very presentable, but it's really very tasty.

Here you can also buy a fruit cocktail, that is, the fruit is simply blended in a blender. It will cost 18 yuan:

I repeat once again that it is very tasty and you should definitely try it.

A quick summary: you shouldn't dine in the food square, but you can taste great ice cream and listen to good music.

2. Chinese cafe

See the exact location on the map at this link.

It can be found by the green walls, red sign and waiters in skullcaps:

Here you can try Chinese dishes consisting of pasta or rice with various additives of your choice: meat, vegetables and sauces.

Menu with pictures, staff speaks some English.

Here a very important point arises, which applies to all cafes and restaurants in China: the dish you order may turn out to be simply unrealistically spicy. So spicy that you won't be able to eat it.

Therefore, when ordering, be sure to indicate that the dish is not spicy. This can be done using words to visit China. Just print it out before your trip or save it on your phone and take it with you everywhere.

I found the food here to be quite tasty, I love the different sauces. The only thing I would advise is to take dishes with chicken, as all other types of meat may seem tough.

The portions are large: a plate with a mountain. The average cost of a dish of rice or pasta with meat, vegetables and sauces is 20 yuan. We ate there for 45 yuan as a couple along with drinks.

3. Frog Cafe

Yes, there is a restaurant in Sanya where you can try frog dish. It is located in the Pineapple shopping center in Da Dong Hai Bay, which was already mentioned above. This shopping center looks like a pineapple from the outside (who would have thought), I marked its location on the map.

In general, I really liked this shopping center, there is a lot of interesting things there, and on the 4th floor there are simply countless cafes and restaurants. So even if you don’t want to go specifically to the cafe with frogs, still visit this place. I am sure that you will find a restaurant with high quality and very tasty Chinese food for yourself.

We didn't intend to go to this cafe. We were just walking by, and I saw unrealistically huge (!!!) portions on the visitors’ tables. Imagine a baking tray for baking something in the oven, so deep, with high sides. Now divide it in half - this will be the size of the plate. And on such a plate there is simply a mountain of meat and vegetables.

We couldn't pass by. We spent a very long time communicating with the waiters through a translator, trying to find out what this or that dish was made from. In the end it turned out that there were dishes of frog, chicken and shrimp.

We decided not to risk it and ordered a chicken dish. It turned out to be not as big as the frog dishes, but still not small either. We ordered a small plate of rice and drinks to go with it. Along with all this, they brought us watermelons and a pot of tea for free.

All this fun cost about 140 yuan. It was very tasty: the meat was well fried, the broth was rich. I recommend.

Prices can be found in the menu:

I would like to explain why we did not order frog dishes. The fact is that the Chinese cook meat differently than we are used to. For example, they do not cut chicken into legs, wings, thighs and fillets. They simply take a large, heavy knife and chop the chicken carcass into pieces, right with all the bones, skin and even paws.

That is, when you catch a piece of chicken, it will not be pure meat, but a bone with meat and cartilage, for example. And here a chicken paw can float. This is the peculiarity of Chinese cuisine (of course, there are exceptions, which will be discussed later).

But while a chicken paw can still be easily tolerated in a dish, I’m not entirely sure about a frog’s paw. So we decided to take something more familiar. And now, to be honest, I regret a little that I didn’t dare try it. For some reason I think it would be delicious.

You can find this cafe on the fourth floor. From the escalator you need to go through a corridor and at the end of it there will be a sign like this:

4. Shopping center "Pineapple"

As I said above, there are many cafes and restaurants in Pineapple. Upon entering the shopping center, we were given promotional brochures several times. I'll post them below so you can evaluate the dishes and their costs.

There is also a rather unusual cafe on the fourth floor of the Pineapple shopping center: it can be recognized by the benches that stand at the entrance to it. That is, the cafe is so crowded that the Chinese (we didn’t see any Russians there) are sitting and waiting for a seat to become available.

Guys, I’ll tell you honestly, I’ve never seen such huge plates anywhere (even in a frog restaurant). My salad bowls are smaller than these plates.

As a result, as far as we understood from talking with the waitress, in this cafe you only need to pay about 50 yuan for the entrance, and you can eat as much as you want. And the food is very spicy. This is all not accurate, since we communicated literally on our fingers, but just keep in mind that such establishments do exist.

5. Hotel restaurant

Each hotel has its own restaurant. Many people think that eating there is very expensive, although this is not always the case. I definitely recommend stopping by there, you can even stop by before opening to just study the menu: often the prices for the dishes are quite reasonable, and the service will be excellent.

For example, in a hotel restaurant Hawaii Hotel we ordered spicy duck (96 yuan) and dumplings (38 yuan). Juice (with spicy duck we drank 2 liters) - no more than 10 yuan.

The duck is constantly heated from below:

Prices for meals at this restaurant start at approximately 30 yuan.

The duck turned out to be VERY spicy, so if you want to go hardcore, go ahead! The dumplings are delicious, I recommend them to everyone.

The restaurant, by the way, is located on the second floor of the hotel:

6. Cafe with hairy food

There is one fairly popular place in Da Dong Hai Bay not far from the beach, but the food there is simply disgusting! Not because it’s tasteless (although they also let us down in this regard), but because both times we were there, there was someone else’s hair in my food!!! Well, one time they gave me a dirty spoon...

This is the establishment:

The portions there are huge, prices for dishes start from 20 yuan.

But the quality of food is poor. If you take any meat other than chicken, be prepared for the fact that it will most likely not be cooked and there will be very little of it.

7. Fast food

We generally believe that McDonald's or any similar place sells only burgers and soda that is harmful to the stomach. But in China the traditions are so strong that in every McDuck and other similar establishments you can buy a full dish of rice, meat and vegetables.

For example, in the local fast food Dicos ( see the position on the map here) we had a very tasty and very inexpensive dinner. The cafe is located on the second floor:

The smallest cell of the plate contains the spicy component. That is, they don’t initially prepare you spicy food, but give you a choice, which, in my opinion, is just wonderful.

The food is delicious, the meat is boneless and cooked very well.

And one time we ran in to McDonald's on the pedestrian street, where we also ordered rice with chicken. Prices are approximately the same. There is a lot of meat, but, in my opinion, not enough sauce.

In general, if you need a quick, relatively inexpensive meal without surprises, you can stop by here.

One time, out of curiosity, we decided to order a local chicken burger at Dicos (13 yuan). Who would have thought that it could be SO spicy! So be careful)

8. Cafe in Yalong Bay

Fruits

It is best to buy fruits in two places. The first of these is markets.

All markets, large and small, are a must. Since there I tell you which of them you can buy fruits inexpensively, and where it’s better not to buy them because of the astronomical prices.

The second good place is street vendors. On the central streets you may meet Chinese women who will offer “mango” and “banana” to all passers-by. Their fruits are very tasty and ripe. Prices may be a little higher than in the markets, but if you meet such a Chinese woman in the evening, you can buy her latest product at a very good price.

And these are the approximate prices for fruits (prices are indicated per half a kilo):

  • pineapples - 4 yuan
  • mango - 5-6 yuan
  • tangerines - 4 yuan
  • lychee – 6 yuan
  • dragon fruit, pitahaya - 4 yuan
  • coconuts - 10 yuan per piece

Prices may fluctuate slightly, don't forget to bargain.

Ice cream

I already talked about ice cream above, but I just can’t help but put it in a separate chapter. This is a MUST try in Hainan. This is delicious.

Ice cream is made from fresh fruit. First, beat them in a blender until smooth. Then the resulting mixture is poured into a special freezing bowl. After complete freezing, the mixture is poured into a glass.

You can buy it at the food market: at the very first kiosk. Costs 20 yuan.

I admit, I was ready to eat it every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Food in supermarkets

There is a chain of supermarkets in Sanya; you can find them literally at every step and even more often. I cannot say what they are called, since the name is written only in hieroglyphs. Typically, their design is dominated by green color.

You can buy literally everything there. If you find yourself in a large location, you can walk around as if in a museum and be amazed at the huge variety of products that are sold in very limited quantities. For example, an entire department could be dedicated to doshiraki or soy sauce. You may find unusual products that are not sold here.

Prices are very different for everything. For example, we bought cookies on the way back (very useful, by the way): 1.5 - 2.5 yuan per pack:

Dairy products are very expensive - sour cream is 35 yuan per jar. But there is a lot of other and inexpensive things here. In one supermarket I photographed a stand with promotional products (don’t forget that the cost of products is indicated per half a kilo):

Drinks cost 3 - 5 yuan per 0.5 liter bottle.

So, here are the 2 largest and most interesting food supermarkets.

1. Underground food supermarket

In Sanya they no longer know where else to build anything, so they decided to bury themselves underground. Under the busiest street in the city, next to the pedestrian street, there is a supermarket located on the minus second floor.

You can go down into it by elevator, which is located right next to the roadway and is a separate building. The elevator is located approximately here - see location on map.

On the minus second floor there is an entire underground street, on one side of which there is a parking lot where taxis are waiting.

And on the other side there is a shopping center, which smoothly turns into a huge supermarket, where there is almost any food.

I took a few shots. Baking and sweets:

Seafood:

Crabs from 50 yuan per half kilo:

Hedgehogs from 3 yuan per piece, shells about 20 yuan per half kilo:

148 yuan per half kilo:

Bread - from 1.5 yuan,
Coconut milk - 3.5 yuan per jar,
Candy - from 8.5 yuan per box,
Fruits are a little more expensive than on the market.

2. Supermarket food in "Pineapple"

On the second floor shopping center "Pineapple" there is a large supermarket. At the entrance to the store there are clothes hanging, so it is not very clear that this is a food store.

There are also a lot of interesting things here, you can buy gifts.

The prices are approximately the same as in the first supermarket, so I see no point in listing them.

About breakfast at the hotel

Finishing the topic of food, I would like to talk about the breakfasts that take place in hotels. I can’t speak for all hotels, since we were only in two (and both of them were 4 stars), but still.

Don't expect luxurious and varied breakfasts.

Be prepared that the breakfast food may disappoint you. For example, soy sausages may be unnaturally red, some may seem unsalted, some too fatty. We didn't have coffee at all, instead tea, coconut milk and juice.

Breakfasts are also not varied in variety: most likely, they will be the same every day.

My advice is: try a little of everything and find what you like. For example, I really liked dumplings, stewed tomatoes with eggs, green tea and cotton cheesecake (very tasty).

Don't put a lot of food on your plate at once if you haven't tried it yet. Food may not taste at all what it seems.

Dear friends, I hope that this article was useful to you, and now you are a little oriented on the cost of groceries and food in a cafe.

I wish you a wonderful holiday and incredible gastronomic discoveries. And that’s all for today, bye everyone!

Sincerely, Elena.

In addition to the numerous advantages of various types of recreation, it also provides a unique opportunity to get to know Chinese national cuisine. The Chinese culinary tradition includes not only cooking techniques, but for the most part is a cultural phenomenon, the history of which dates back thousands of years.

What is Chinese cuisine?

The preparation and subsequent consumption of food in China is a special ritual, the basic principles of which have been regulated for many generations. The basics of cooking have long been leaked along with the Chinese people to other countries. You can try Thailand, Cambodia and other countries. Chinese cuisine is fundamentally much healthier than European cuisine. The reason for this is the use of only the freshest products, keeping heat treatment to a minimum, when all the beneficial properties are preserved, and labor-intensive preparation for the main process in the form of marinating and soaking. In China, milk and its derivatives, including butter, are not honored; cooking takes place exclusively with vegetable fats. But vegetables, fruits exotic for Europeans, seafood, various spices, herbs and herbs rule the roost in any Chinese kitchen. Soybeans and legumes are especially held in high esteem, replacing beef with their protein composition. Pork, chickens and ducks, and invertebrate marine life are popular.

Types of Chinese cuisine.

On about. Hainan is widely represented in various areas of Chinese cuisine, differing in the method of preparation and the types of spices used. You can try the dishes here cantonese cuisine, Probably the healthiest of those listed, as they are steamed or boiled just a little. Shanghai cuisine will surprise you with the famous Peking duck, smoked and seasoned with a special marinade; Sichuan and Hunan cuisines are known for being very hot and spicy in taste.

But among all this diversity, there are dishes that if you visit Hainan, it would be an unforgivable omission not to try them. Firstly, there is the Hele crab, which has won the love of gourmets with its tender meat and golden caviar, steamed and served with a sauce with garlic and vinegar. Secondly, this is, of course, stewed lamb, and sometimes Dongshan goat meat, which has a special aroma, served with a spicy sauce. The next dish recommended for tasting is boiled Jiaji duck, with thin skin and unusually juicy meat, and finally, Wenchang chicken served with a spicy sauce of ginger and sesame oil.

European cuisine in China.

In addition to Chinese cuisine itself, the island has a developed infrastructure of restaurants with the usual European culinary tradition; there are pizzerias, McDonald's, as well as establishments where you can eat native Russian borscht with cutlets.

Choosing where it is better to eat in a hotel restaurant, or in street or seaside cafes, must be based on culinary preferences and wallet. So, lunch for two people in a hotel will cost $60-80, while in a street establishment a company of 6 people can have a satisfying meal for $100.

Restaurants in Hainan.

Another advantage of eating in China is huge portions and the ability to take leftovers with you in special containers, which is practiced everywhere and is not considered shameful. However, seafood lovers should remember that it is better to enjoy the gifts of the Hainan waters in coastal restaurants - the products here will be much fresher and tastier than in the same restaurants in the interior of the island. Usually in such places there is a large aquarium in front of the entrance, from which they catch their favorite lobsters, crabs, shrimps, and various fish. However, to avoid misunderstandings, you should ask to weigh the selected fish and write down its weight on the order form to avoid overpayment.

The most expensive and upscale restaurants are located in the fashionable recreation area - Yalong Bay. Dadonghai attracts with more affordable prices and an abundance of street food outlets. In the city of Sanya, as well as in the first two, there are plenty of Russian restaurants, taverns and cafes offering food familiar to Russian people. And anywhere on the island in a restaurant you can ask for a European menu, which will be provided immediately.

The island of centenarians, Hainan, stuns the average tourist with an abundance of exotic fruits. Only desperate daredevils can try some of them, but coconut milk and all the dishes derived from it are definitely worth tasting. Coconuts are found everywhere here in huge quantities, and the pleasant taste of cool coconut milk is so lifesaving on a hot afternoon.

Plunging into the magical world of relaxation on the island of Hainan, enjoying the sea and sun, absorbing the beauty of forests, mountains and rivers, enriching themselves spiritually in Buddhist temples, tasting mind-blowing combinations of Chinese cuisine, each guest takes away from here a piece of the unique Chinese culture, which has once taken its place in his heart will never leave him again.

Most tourists relax in Dadonghai in hotels for breakfast, so the question of where to eat deliciously and inexpensively in Dadonghai is quite relevant. After your arrival, you are unlikely to wonder where to eat in Dadonghai, unless you stay at one of the hotels located away from the center, for example, at the Mandarin Oriental Sanya, which has no cafes or restaurants nearby. There is no shortage of cafes in the central area of Dadonghai Resort, where almost all the hotels are located. Just arrived and don’t know where to eat deliciously and inexpensively in Dadonghai? Then you can just go to the Summer Mall, which is located almost in the very center of the resort. There are famous chain restaurants here, as well as a large food court. Food prices here are quite reasonable. At least they are lower than in all hotels in the area.
Want to try Peking duck in Dadonghai? Then it's best to go to one of the local restaurants. Fortunately, the choice of such restaurants here is quite decent. If you are specifically interested in Peking duck, then it is better to choose a restaurant at the hotel. Although the cost of such a dish here may be high, everything will be prepared at the highest level. I managed to try the cheapest Peking duck at the cafe "U Lena".

Dadonghai Food Square

What is the food area in Dadonghai? This is a place where you can eat delicious and inexpensive food. The food square is a street lined with small stalls, each owned by a different Chinese family. We can say that this is a kind of analogue of the Thai night market. The food area opens at approximately 7:30 p.m. Here you can buy Chinese dishes for little money, including stir-fried meat, noodles, dried fish, egg and meat soup, and oven-cooked dishes. In any case, you will find the cheapest hot food in Dadonghai in this place.
Where is the food square in Dadonghai? I won't give you the exact address, but I will tell you that it is located on the street running perpendicular to Yuya Road, on the opposite side of the Summer Mall square.

Buffet in Dadonghai

If you want to have a buffet lunch or dinner, you can either go to one of the hotels in Dadonghai (high-end hotels tend to offer a buffet for dinner, although they may not have one for lunch) or go to the Leto shopping center, where there is also a barbecue buffet. According to tourists, there are a couple of other restaurants on Dadonghai Beach that offer a buffet, but, unfortunately, I have not visited all the establishments in this area, so I cannot confirm these words.

Cafe in Dadonghai

For those who want an inexpensive but tasty meal in Dadonghai, this area offers several good cafes. In these cafes you can eat lagman, Chinese dishes and even some Russian dishes.
It is better to look for cafes in Dadonghai Bay away from hotels, since cafes at or near hotels generally offer high prices, but if you move at least 200 meters from the hotel, you can find a cheaper cafe.

CCCP Cafe in Dadonghai

This is one of the most famous cafes in Dadonghai among Russian tourists. It owes its popularity not only to its name, but also to its convenient location near the beach. The USSR cafe offers dishes of Russian, Caucasian and some other cuisines. Various events are often held here in the evenings.

Tavern "Moscow" in Dadonghai

Another good cafe for tourists from Russia. The Moscow tavern is located near the beach, next to the Horizon clinic. If you want to eat borscht or pancakes, you can visit this cafe. The price level here is average.

Cafe "U Lena" in Dadonghai

The last cafe that I would like to recommend to you is the cafe "U Lena". It is close to the beach and next to the Resort Intime Sunshine Sanya. In appearance, the cafe is not very remarkable, with plastic chairs, but the price level here will please those who do not like to spend a lot on food. In addition to Russian cuisine, the cafe offers delicious seafood dishes. The staff in the cafe speaks Russian quite well.

To be honest, when I go on vacation, I like to dine in different places every day, try something new, and not just eat at the hotel restaurant. In the new bays of Hainan, for example, in Haitang Bay, massive construction is underway, so for now you can only eat here at the hotel. But in the three main bays of the island - Sanya, Dadonghai and Yalongwan - the infrastructure is well developed, and food here is no problem. You can eat in cafes, at street markets, or simply buy food in supermarkets.

Food in cafes and restaurants

The choice of food on Hainan Island is simply huge. Of course, this is primarily the freshest seafood and Chinese cuisine. But if you don’t like them, you can easily find dishes from a wide variety of cuisines here: Russian, Italian, Turkish, European, Armenian and many others.

So, in order.

Budget establishments

  • Yalong Bay: You can eat on a budget near the bus station. There is a fruit market and several cafes with Chinese food. Here lunch will cost 2.5-4 euros (20-30 yuan) per person. They open at sunrise and close when it gets dark, around 19.00-20.00. You can take, for example, noodles with meat. The taste is very similar to navy pasta.

Transport: from Sanya Bay via Dadonghai by buses No. 15, 25, 29 (fare 68 cents or 5 yuan), or by taxi, where payment is by meter.

  • Sanya Bay: A lot of cafes and restaurants are concentrated in the Pedestrian Street area. For example, the same McDonald's and KFC. The entire top floor of the shopping center on Pedestrian Street is also occupied by various cafes. The food they serve is European: steaks, salads, soups, pizza, desserts. "Pedestrian Street" is open until 23.00 (cafes and restaurants on it, respectively, too), but McDonald's is open around the clock. The average bill per person is from 2 euros (15 yuan), for example, for a hamburger and a drink.

Transport: buses No. 15 and 25 go from Yalongwan via Dadonghai, buses No. 2 and 8 from Dadonghai, the ticket price is 68 cents (5 yuan).

  • Dadonghai Bay: any cafes located on the embankment (Marina, U Lena, USSR and others). They can be classified as both budget and mid-range, so I wrote about them below. The fact is that the portions there are very large, so some even take one portion of the main dish for two, and it turns out quite inexpensive. Opening hours: from 10.00-11.00 to 23.00-24.00. The average bill is from 20 euros (150 yuan) for two.

Transport: from Yalongwan buses No. 15 and 25, from Sanya – No. 2, 4, 8; stop "Dadonghai Bay".

Average establishments

  • Yalong Bay: in the center of the bay near the shopping center there is the well-known street La Floret. It houses cafes, restaurants and a Pizza Hat pizzeria; all establishments are open from 10-11 am and close around 10 pm. Their cuisine is Asian, Russian, and European. I note that gourmets will not like it here; the food is average. There's a trick to the menu: the cheapest dishes are at the end! For example, in a pizzeria the most expensive pizza costs 14.5 euros (110 yuan), spaghetti about 3.4 euros (25 yuan), soups and salads - 2 euros (15 yuan).

Transportation: metered taxi or buses No. 15 and 25 (fare 68 cents or 5 yuan).

  • Sanya Bay: Brazilian barbecue Armando BBQ, located at Hexi road, 85. In addition to the fact that the meat is delicious here, it is also an economical option for dinner! For a flat fee (about 12 euros (90 yuan) per person) you get a buffet with soups, salads, ice cream, desserts, fruit and a HUGE selection of any meat that is cut from the spit. However, you will have to pay extra for beer, coffee, tea and freshly squeezed juices. The restaurant is open from 11.00 to 22.30, but it is better to come no later than 19.00-20.00, because closer to closing there is little food left.

Transport: bus number 4 (fare 68 cents or 5 yuan); third stop after passing through two bridges.

  • Dadonghai Bay: There are a lot of cafes and restaurants located right on the embankment. The average bill there is approximately 7-13 euros (50-100 yuan) per person (salad or appetizers, main course, drinks). They are located right next to each other, street barkers simply will not let you pass by. Near the entrance there is usually a counter with a menu in Russian: you can immediately see the range of dishes and their prices. All establishments close around 23.00-24.00 and open around 10-11 am.
  1. “Kievan Rus” will offer guests Russian, Chinese and Georgian cuisine. You can eat borscht, Olivier salad, shish kebab, lula kebab, Chinese meat in sweet and sour sauce and much more.
  2. At Lena's try the Peking duck. The cook will cut the duck in front of your eyes, they will serve it with flatbreads and various sauces, and they will make broth from the bones and bring it to you a little later. There are also aquarium showcases with seafood, in which live creatures for every taste swim. At the end of dinner (or lunch), you will definitely receive a gift from the establishment: tea, fruit, a bottle of local balm or dessert. It's a small thing, but it's nice!
  3. “Vanda”, “Blue Lotus” - European, Chinese and Russian cuisine. The serving size is absolutely huge! Plus display aquariums with seafood, in which living creatures swim for every taste.
  4. In addition to Chinese, the Dolphin Grill Bar offers Mexican, European and American cuisine. Here you can watch broadcasts of sports matches and play billiards.

You can get to these cafes from Sanya by buses No. 2 and 4 (fare 30 cents/2 yuan), from Yalongwan by buses No. 15 and 25 (fare 68 cents/5 yuan) or by taxi (pay by meter). Stop "Dadonghai Bay" or Summer Mall.

Expensive establishments

  • Yalong Bay: Food in this bay is different in that there are very few cafes and restaurants on the streets; they are mostly located on hotel premises. Each hotel can offer its guests at least five restaurants located in the hotel complex. Their prices are, of course, very high. Dinner for two costs at least 55 euros (400 yuan). Hotel restaurants are usually open until 10 p.m.
  • Sanya Bay: Casa Mia restaurant, you can recognize it by its sign in the colors of the Italian flag. It is located at 88 Sanyawan road. This street runs along the sea, so the terrace offers a wonderful view of the bay. The menu is very extensive: a large selection of pizza, pasta, soups, salads, wines, cocktails and alcoholic drinks. Very good service. The average bill, of course, is a little expensive - 100-130 euros (800-900 yuan) for two (salad, main course, pizza, drinks). The restaurant is open from 14.00 to 02.00.

  • Bay: Italian restaurant Marko Polo. Here you will have to pay about 80 euros (600 yuan) for dinner for two (salad, main dish, pizza, drinks). Here, of course, pizza and pasta come first, as well as European cuisine. In short, if you miss Caesar salad and tomato soup, then this is the place for you. The cook, by the way, is Italian, speaks his native Italian and a little English. Address: 8 Haiyun Road, (you can easily notice the large sign), next to the Leto shopping center, opposite Pizza Hut. Opening hours: from 8.00 to 23.00.

Street food and supermarkets

Some guides will tell you that it’s better not to eat on the streets, you can get poisoned, and it’s unknown what they sell there, but we still took the risk, and neither no matter what terrible things happened, we were very pleased. Just see what you like and try it, because the menu is in Russian, of course. They usually sell rice porridge with coconut milk, skewers made from fish, chicken, beef, as well as rice cakes and sweets.

Bay: If you are a lover of Chinese cuisine, that is, you don’t mind eating spicy food and are not afraid to try something new, then you can go to “Food Square”. This is a place between two shopping centers "Winter" and "Leto". Employees of hotels, medical centers, sellers—in a word, local residents—dine here.

Hours in 6-7, imported food carts gradually begin to appear on the “Square”, then by lunchtime the “Square” calms down a little, and in the evening from 19.00 until closing (until 24.00) There is just an incredible influx of people here.

During the day there are not so many “eats”, everyone is focused on locals, but in the evening, on the contrary, on tourists. With the onset of dusk, about 30 cafes (which are closed during the day), many tables, mobile trays, etc. appear on the square. They turn on signs, music, some kind of ensemble performs, light up the lights, and offer to sing karaoke.

Everything here is generally very cheap: 15-20 yuan per serving (a plate of rice and a “second course” or soup, for example). By the way, there is a large selection of draft beer (costs about 10 yuan per mug), various kebabs, seafood, local dumplings, flatbreads and other delicacies.

Many cafes have a menu, and Russian-speaking waiters will help you make a choice and tell you about the dish you like.

Sanya Bay: street food markets are usually crowded with locals and curious tourists. There is music playing here, Chinese children are running around trying in every possible way to sell you something, locals are talking loudly to each other, playing the saxophone, guitar, singing - in a word, having fun as best they can.

The most popular such market in Sanya is Market No. 1 on Xinjiang Street. It opens very early, at 6 am, and is open until 04.00, sometimes longer.

Here you will see a simply huge selection of any fresh seafood: from fish and shrimp to urchins and sea cucumbers. The prices are very low. For example, a large whole fish costs from 50 yuan. Here you can also buy pork, lamb and chicken if you want. Once you have chosen what you like, simply take it to the nearest cafe and ask them to cook it. As a rule, there are barkers walking around this market, who, as soon as they see the packages in your hands, will come up and offer you either a business card of the establishment, or will take you straight to the cafe, where before your eyes the purchase will turn into a dish. The price depends on the complexity of its preparation, but sometimes the final bill may include b the cost of seating, that is, they will add a few yuan for the fact that you ate while sitting and not standing. Usually the cost of preparation is 10-30 yuan.

By the way, the smell at the market is very much for everyone! There is a strong smell of fish, raw meat, water on the floor. I couldn’t stand it even for five minutes, but my husband calmly walked around and looked for all sorts of delicacies. That's why we did this: I said what I wanted to buy and stayed waiting near the market. And my husband went to the “room with a terrible smell” and chose seafood for us for dinner.

Another interesting point! If you buy live fish, then be prepared for the fact that the cook (or his assistant) will kill this fish right on the asphalt with a stick or club. When I saw this for the first time, the desire to eat completely disappeared.

Transport: bus number 4, first stop after you cross two bridges. Then go to the other side of the street and see the market.

There is another similar night market on Shangping Road. Here you can taste seafood barbecue, drink beer, eat Chinese coconut rice porridge, enjoy hot soup and much more for only 30-40 yuan.

It opens as soon as it starts to get dark (about 17-18.00), and ends work at about 2-3 a.m..

They sell mostly ready-made food here, and fish or meat can be heated on coals in front of you. There is always a lot of beer, local drinks and souvenirs here.

Transport: bus number 4, third stop after the bridge. You need to cross the “Drunken Bridge”, and there the market will be visible.

It happens that you want ordinary, familiar food: yogurt, milk, cheese, sausage and bread... (Keep in mind that there is practically no black bread in Hainan! Only buns and white.) Go to supermarkets and mini-markets, of which there are many on the island .

  • In Yalong Bay:
    • There is a supermarket on La Floret street. Open from 9.30 to 22.00.
    • There is another large Guozhong supermarket next to the bus stop (from 9.00 to 22.00). Transport: from Yalongwan buses No. 15 and 25, from Sanya - No. 2 and 8, Summer Mall stop.
  • In Dadonghai: Grocery stores are concentrated near the Leto shopping center. There is a large supermarket with the food we are used to (milk, sausage) in the Leto shopping center itself, open from 9.30 to 22.00.

    • Near the "Drunken Bridge" there is a shopping center "Mingzhu" (open from 9.30 to 22.30), there is also a grocery store on the ground floor. Transport: bus No. 2 and 4, third stop after two bridges.

Several food outlets and takeaway food outlets have united under the common banner of Xin street food shopping center. We managed to go to several of them, some places seemed to us not to have outstanding taste or a little overpriced, but one place definitely caught our attention.

Holidays in Hainan are, of course, wonderful, but the prices on the island are much higher compared to mainland China, and I’m not talking about the tourist area, which is Dadonghai Bay. Prices for food in catering here are significantly higher, especially in cafes and restaurants aimed at tourists, so we either need authentic establishments for locals, but you won’t find them in Dadonghai, or you need chifanki.

This establishment is popularly called “Cafe at Lina’s” and is one of the best, in my opinion, in terms of price-quality-taste ratio in Dadonghai Bay. Originally 饺子王拿手菜.

The main problem is to find it among a bunch of others, but it’s difficult to do this only the first time, then you’ll navigate without problems.

So, as a guide:

  1. Hotel Sanya City Link 3*. This little girl is located in an alley, next to her own kind. First you need to find this alley. We were guided by the Chinese map, in my opinion they are more accurate, plus, if you take a taxi, it is better to show the taxi drivers a map with Chinese inscriptions, they are more likely to understand where to take you. And if you walk, focus on shopping centers nearby.
  2. If you have downloaded the mapme map and marks for the city of Sanya with places that other tourists have noted, then look for the mark “Good Chief” on the map. If you can’t find a file with tags online, write in the comments and I’ll send you the file.

If you enter the alley from the sea, then as a landmark - Leto shopping center, go around it and from it through a narrow road, at the entrance to the alley on one side there is a kiosk with juices and cocktails, on the other there is some kind of small shop, but we know the Chinese, they can redo everything in a week, so focus on the Leto shopping center, it will probably last at least another couple of years.

When you get to the desired alley, look around, if you came from the City Link, then “Cafe at Lina” will be on your left, if you come from the sea, then you will be on the right. You need a chifanka with a black sign that says 饺子王拿手菜 and orange chairs. From time to time, the guys hang up signs with Russian inscriptions.

If you come there in the morning or after lunch, then most likely there won’t be many people and you won’t be able to identify them by the group of Russian tourists, but if you look in the evening or at lunchtime, you will most likely recognize “Cafe at Lina” by the Russians waiting on the street.

And of course, as a reference we can name Lina herself, she is a pleasant, slender girl who speaks and understands Russian quite well, if she has gone somewhere or there are a lot of clients, then the guys take the order, their Russian is worse, but in any case In case there are menus hanging on the walls and you can point right at them and explain yourself on your fingers.

I won't say that this is the cheapest place in Dadonghai. If you need the most budget-friendly place, then take a closer look at the very end of the lane. But if you want the best place in combination of price and taste, then you should go to Lina’s Cafe.

In this small shop, the menu hangs on the wall, three large posters, two for Russian speakers, one for Chinese.

The price tag is higher, but the portions are noticeably larger. We took one main course and some side dish, and with these two portions we ate together with the young man, and he is a glutton. On average, about 50-70 yuan for two.

Pork in sweet and sour sauce with vegetables 38 ¥

French fries 15¥

A lot, very tasty, the sweet and sour sauce is simply gorgeous! In our city they would cook the same way and for the same money...French fries, to be honest, are average. The cocktails are tasty, but sweet and large, and take a long time to drink.

Eggplants stewed in sauce with meat and vegetables 25¥

Rice with seafood 25¥

I'm not a fan of eggplant, but that didn't stop me from devouring a good half of the portion - delicious!

The seafood rice is excellent, but be careful with the shells.

Chicken in batter with vegetables 28¥

Noodles with meat and vegetables in sauce 15¥

The chicken is gorgeous, the noodles are also on the same level, for some reason I was sure that the noodles were just with vegetables, but no, they ate the chicken with beef) The noodles had some kind of unusual and very interesting-tasting sauce, I’ve never tried anything like that before.

The selection of drinks is modest, but they are there, as far as I remember - beer, juice. Everything is cool, from the refrigerator. By the way, as for juices, they bring a small bag of apple juice as a gift with your order and give it to a girl or child)

There is also a menu with fresh fruit juices hanging on the wall; a guy on a bike brings them briskly. We took mango and passion fruit juice, very tasty, but a little sweet - in the photo they are in plastic cups with straws, they are delivered sealed, and on the spot they pierce the packaging with a straw. I don’t remember the price tag, but it seems like 20 ¥. If you come across a kiosk with these juices in the city, I definitely recommend it)

The interior is very simple, walls, tables, chairs, no decorative frills, she’s such a chick.

On the walls hang banknotes, reviews and a few photographs of satisfied Russian tourists.

In general, there are a lot of Russians, especially in the evening. If during the day you can still calmly come in and sit down and have dinner, then in the evening you will have to wait for a place at a table. A good option is to take your food with you to the hotel; everything is packed well, and in the heat you will have time to deliver everything hot. If you were unable to finish a certain portion, they will also pack it for you.

During our vacation we managed to eat there several times, never left dissatisfied, it was always tasty, plentiful and hot. The young man specifically praised the meat - tasty and adequately sized pieces, not comparable to what was available at the hotel for breakfast.

The only note is that if you take rice with seafood, eat it carefully, you may get shell pieces. Maybe I was so unlucky, I got small pieces twice, and the young man gobbled up most of the plate and got nothing - depending on your luck, but be careful.

To summarize, I want to say that “Cafe at Lina” is an excellent cafe for your money, where it’s delicious, friendly and close to the hotel if you live in Dadonghai Bay. I strongly recommend it to my compatriots who are traveling to Hainan!

PS: I’m writing a review, looking at the photos and licking my lips, I really want to go back to the warmth, eat delicious noodles and pork in sweet and sour sauce at sunset on the beach... What will you ask the goddess Guanyin? Where should you definitely go in Nanshan, and what can you safely ignore? Travel independently and save!
