What to see in the center of Moscow in one day - I offer my version of the route, which will allow you to see almost all the main attractions of the Russian capital. Walking along the route below took me about six hours, during which time I walked more than ten kilometers . But you shouldn’t rely on my time and mileage, since I wasn’t in a hurry, I went to streets adjacent to the main route, made stops, and sat in a cafe.
First of all, I will describe the route I took point by point:
- The starting point was, which is located on Chistye Prudy, from where I walked to the metro station of the same name (letters A and B on the map below);
- then my path ran along Lubyanka Square (the letter C - it is not visible behind the letter I - this is already the end of my walk) - you can start your walk from there, skipping Chistye Prudy;
- China Town (letter D)
- Red Square and St. Basil's Cathedral (letter E);
- then I went down to the Kremlin embankment, and having gone around the Kremlin along the Moscow River, I went up to Borovitskaya Square (letters E and F);
- then I walked past the Lenin Library, turned onto Vozdvizhenka, and then onto Bolshaya Kislovsky Lane and exited onto Bolshaya Nikitskaya Street (letter G);
- briefly looked at Gazetny Lane, then walked to the intersection of Bolshaya Nikitskaya and Tverskoy Boulevard, went up to the Pushkinskaya metro station (letter H)
- after that I went down Tverskaya Street to shopping center"Okhotny Ryad", after which he walked along Teatralny Proezd and again found himself on Lubyanka Square, from which he went to the hotel (letter I).

Brief information about attractions along the route
The route described above was born to me spontaneously; I did not search on the Internet for what to see in Moscow in one day, as you may have done and found my article. If this is the case, then I am very happy! And now short description sights and streets you will walk along.
Chistye Prudy They weren't always called that way. Oddly enough, the first name of the pond is Poganye Marsh. Owners of butcher shops and slaughterhouses dumped waste here. So the smell here in the 17th century was wow. For Chistye Prudy, thanks should be given to Peter I’s closest ally, Prince Menshikov, who ordered the pond to be cleaned.
Lubyanskaya Square got its name from the area Lubyanitsa, which came to the capital from Veliky Novgorod. The Novgorodians, resettled to Moscow in the 15th century after the fall of the Novgorod Republic, settled in these places, and so they began to call the area Lubyanitsa. At one time the square was called Nikolskaya after the gate of Kitay-Gorod, and during the Soviet period it bore the name of the founder of the state security service (now called the FSB) Felix Dzerzhinsky. Lubyanka Square re-emerged in 1991.
China town named not at all because the Chinese lived here in large quantities. It is unlikely that foreign people would be allowed to live in the area - the closest neighbor of Red Square. The most common version says that the region owes its name to the ancient Russian word “kita” - this was the name given to the tying of poles used in the construction of fortifications.
Red Square- O main square countries can be talked about endlessly, but I will not retell what has been written and rewritten. I will only note that the square is pedestrian and is paved with paving stones made of Crimean dolerite. By the way, the square was not always pedestrian. Until 1963, cars drove along it. Now you can’t even cross the square on a bicycle.
St Basil's Church- another symbol of Moscow and all of Russia, along with Red Square and the Kremlin. The temple was erected in the 16th century and was originally called Trinity. The temple is included in the list of objects World Heritage UNESCO in Russia.
Kremlin embankment- the first city embankment, encased in stone. Although the first stone cladding has not reached us. The Kremlin embankment became what we see now in the 30s of the 20th century.
Alexander Garden- a park with an area of 10 hectares, perfect place for a walk. An oak tree whose age exceeds 200 years has been preserved in the park. Also on the territory of the garden is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Italian Grotto. Some events in the novel “The Master and Margarita” by Bulgakov take place in the Alexander Garden.
Bolshaya Nikitskaya Street appeared on maps of Moscow in the 15th century, around the same time the first central governing body of the capital, the Yamskaya Dvor, was located on it. For almost 75 years during the USSR, the street was called Herzen - in honor of the famous Decembrist. There are many remarkable buildings on the street.
