Violet - Pfeiffer Beach, California, USA

California beach Pfeiffer Beach especially “lucky”: it changes color depending on the lighting - sand mixed with tiny granite chips can take on shades of violet, lilac, lavender, burgundy and pink. It's all about a special variety of garnet - the mineral spessartine, containing manganese and aluminum. Rain washes the mineral out of the local hills and colors the beach with it. Pfeiffer Beach unique - nothing like it exists in the world.

Green - Papakolea Beach, Hawaii, USA

Locals call sand from the beach Papakolea Beach“Hawaiian diamond” because it shimmers beautifully in the sun when you take a handful into your palm. The sand received its unusual green color thanks to peridot crystals (a semi-precious stone). Taking green sand from the beach is strictly prohibited. It's sad that these bans do not apply to the ocean: scientists say that the surf on the beach is too strong and in 100-150 years the precious sand may be washed away. Another green sand beach is located on the island of Guam in the western Pacific Ocean.

Pink - Elafonisi, Greece

Just 100 meters southwest of Crete there is a small island Elafonisi, which means “deer island” in Greek. You can get to it by wading along an underwater isthmus (the depth of the strait depends on the time of year - in summer, for example, the water leaves, dropping to 20 cm). The island is covered with pink beaches - the local sand gets this color thanks to small shells and coral fragments with which it is mixed. Interestingly, the unusual shade of sand can be seen even under the thickness of perfectly clear water. Another famous beach with pink sand - Pink Sands Beach- is located in the Bahamas.

Golden - Golden Bay Beach , Gozo, Malta

Orange, rich yellow, gold - each in its own way describes the color of the Maltese beach on the island of Gozo, which is also called Calypso. It was here, according to the legends of Homer’s poem, that the legendary King Odysseus spent seven years under the spell of the goddess Calypso. Golden sand can also be found on the beaches of Hawaii, the Greek Kefalonia and the Spanish island of Tenerife.

Red beaches are not the greatest rarity, but they look quite amazing. One of the most famous red beaches is located in Greece on the island of Santorini, near the city of Akrotiri. The rocks surrounding the beach and the shore itself turned copper-burgundy due to the red limestone contained in the soil. The beach seems especially bright due to the contrast with the blue water. There are other famous red beaches in Canada - Thunder Cove on Prince Edward Island and Hawaii - Kaihalulu on the east coast of Maui.

Black - Punaluu Beach, Hawaii, USA

Coal sand of the famous Hawaiian beach Punaluu Beach- the result of the activity of nearby volcanoes: it consists of basalt crumbs, which are formed from lava, cooled and destroyed into small particles by ocean waters. This sand is considered the blackest in the world and because of this uniqueness, it is forbidden to remove it from the beach. Local legend says that anyone who dares to put even a handful of sand in his pocket will be cursed by the goddess of volcanoes. Also on Hawaiian Islands there are slightly less “black” ones, but no less beautiful Honokalani Black Sand Beach, Oneuli Beach, Kehena Beach, Pololu Valley Beach. Similar beaches can be found in Tenerife, Fogo, Jamaica, California, Syria and New Zealand.

Glass Beach - Glass Beach, California, USA

This beach is very special: it is not covered with sand, but with pieces of glass polished by water. Multi-colored glass pebbles shimmer in the sun with all the colors of the rainbow. At the beginning of the 20th century, there was a waste dump on the coast; in 1967, the authorities closed it, some of the garbage was removed from the coast, and nature edited the remains to its own taste.

Grey - Vik, Iceland

Black when wet, but still steel gray when dry - that's the beach Vik on south coast Iceland, consisting of basalt chips. Interestingly, the town of Vik, next to which the beach is located, is the most southern point Iceland and the rainiest place on the island.

White - Hyams Beach, Australia

The finest sand of the beach Hyams Beach, which is located in Jarvis Bay 300 km south of Sydney, is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the most White sand in the world. Outwardly, it looks more like flour, snow or table salt. This sand is not only beautiful, but also dangerous: it is so dazzling that it is not recommended to be on the beach without sunglasses. Elafonisi on the map:

Snow-white beaches located in the most exotic corners of our planet have not surprised anyone for a long time. However, there are picturesque places in the world that will make you freeze with admiration, and the Bahamas archipelago is just such an exception. Picturesque Harbor, considered an elite vacation spot island state, attracts, like a magnet, wealthy tourists from all over the world. They rush here to see with their own eyes the fantastically beautiful pink beach, famous for the unusual color of the sand.

Ideal beaches

Unique nature has always been the main attraction of the distinctive archipelago. For many years, the Bahamas has warmly welcomed travelers, giving them memorable happy moments. But the most special among the many islands of the state is Atlantic Ocean is the famous Harbor, which is famous for its beaches. Equipped and perfect for swimming, they are simply perfect in every way.

Natural phenomenon

Sands Beach) is especially loved by vacationers who admire the miraculous phenomenon, which at first can be attributed to an optical illusion. The guests of the island see a delightful picture indescribable in words: the endless azure sky, clear water and sand of an unusual color. Such splendor of the pristine nature of the Harbor will make even travelers who have seen a lot freeze with delight.

What is the reason for the unnatural shade of sand?

The transparent turquoise water also changes its color, and in the light of the fading rays of the sun it becomes the color of a ruddy dawn. This phenomenon is associated with single-celled insects living on the beach, whose shells are painted in a delightfully delicate tone. When the surf throws them ashore in a huge number, the microscopic shells break and mix with the sand, giving it a unique hue.

The ocean grinds up the hard shells thrown onto the pink beach (Harbor) so thoroughly that the sand poses no danger to guests of the archipelago: it is elastic, soft, and very pleasant to lie on. It must be said that the water also grinds red corals into tiny grains, which also give a peculiar shade along with foraminiferal insects.

It's amazing how the color of a local landmark changes depending on the lighting. Under the bright rays of the warm sun, lilac-metallic reflections fall on the world’s most beautiful beach of pink sands, and at sunset it amazes with its purple palette.

Beaches of Eleuthera

The small Harbour, stretching five kilometers in length, is located next to the island of Eleuthera, and between them there is a narrow pier. Those who crave new adventures and impressions will be transported by ferry to a picturesque place famous virgin nature and lesser-known pink beaches. With a population of more than seven thousand people, this corner lost in the ocean is practically deserted, and only masterpieces created by nature itself welcome new guests. Located in the west and east, they surprise few tourists.

Island with developed infrastructure

It should be noted that the pink beach of the island is not the only reason to take a long flight to the Harbor, so we’ll tell you a little about what else it can attract the attention of vacationers.

It would not be an exaggeration to say that the whole life of Harbor Island consists of serving tourists. Developed infrastructure with comfortable hotels, a whole network of restaurants and boutiques, it attracts thousands of travelers every year. On sunny resort everyone will find entertainment to suit their taste, ranging from relaxing holiday on the beaches and ending with classes active species sports.

On the island is the town of Dunmore, whose indigenous inhabitants were engaged in shipbuilding and trading sugar cane. This is the oldest locality in the Bahamas, and its buildings have a distinctive style. Tourists note that a leisurely pastime is not very suitable for young people who love nightlife in entertainment venues. But those who cannot imagine themselves without contemplation natural beauty, will fall in love with the magical Harbor at first sight.

The best, as it was called by readers of the travel magazine Travel+Leisure, received the highest score tourists declaring their love for the Bahamian pearl.
