Val d'Isère France ski resort. Ski resort Val d'Isere. For fans of cross-country skiing

Height difference: 1550-2500 m Lifts open from late November to early May

Daily information on weather and snow conditions: www.valdisere.com.

Resort Val d'Isere(Val d'Isere, 1850 m) is widely known not only in France, but throughout the world thanks to the stages of the alpine skiing competitions of the 1992 Winter Olympic Games that took place here. World Cups have been held on the slopes of Val d'Isere more than once, and in 2010 The World Ski Championships were held in Val d'Isere, which once again emphasizes the alpine advantages of the resort.
The resorts of Val d'Isère and Tignes - the homeland of the French world champions Oreille and Killy - form a single ski area, Espace Killy, which is bordered on both sides by two national parks: Vanoise and Grande Paradis. Skiing in Val d'Isere is guaranteed at any time , since here in the very center of the protected area is the Pissailais glacier.
Val d'Isere is a spacious alpine paradise: several thousand hectares of marked ski slopes (73 slopes in total) and 10 thousand hectares of virgin soil at an altitude of 1550 to 3500 m. Here is the best skiing and snowboarding school, as well as the best instructors off-piste skiing. No other resort offers such freedom of movement and variety of slopes: for lovers of extreme skiing, the breathtaking rock bastions of Galice and Grande Aiguille Rousset, and for beginners, the classic Madeleine routes in the forests of Santons and Vallons. The Bellevarde cliff with Bernard Roussy's downhill (height 2809 m, vertical drop 972 m, length 2905 m, average slope 350, maximum slope 630) will finally convince you that Val d'Isere is something you can talk about just dream.

Characteristics of the routes
For professionals:
Unlike the Three Valleys, Val d'Isere is more suitable for experts than for intermediate or beginner skiers. In the Bellevarde area (2827 m) on the famous Face track, stages of competitions for the world championship in alpine skiing are held every year. Here are the most interesting routes for off-piste skiing.
For intermediate level: The Espace Killy area is considered one of the best in France, and some of its blue and green runs can be classified as simple red runs. The slopes are distinguished by good snow cover (well compacted and crumbly snow), they are wide, smooth, long, with almost no intersections. The Col de l'Iseran sector, the descent from Toviers, is interesting.
For beginners: basically all the slopes are concentrated almost in the center of Val d'Isere near the free ski lifts. The green slope of Madeleine is good, as well as the slopes in the Col de l'Iseran area (2762 m). We advise you to choose routes very carefully, because many routes are underrated in terms of difficulty.

Val d'Isere: alpine skiing and freeride

The pistes of Val d'Isère are known for their diversity, many of the pistes are quite difficult. The elevation difference reaches 1300 m (excluding the pistes of neighboring Tignes)

Fans of Val d'Isère consider him the undoubted leader not only in terms of difficult and interesting trails (the maximum slope of the black Face piste is 63%), but also one of best places in Europe for freeride. And indeed, in addition to the multiple (due to two glaciers, slope exposure and microclimate) guarantee of snow, Val d'Isere has something to offer experts and lovers of virgin lands.

On the surrounding slopes there is great amount routes for off-piste skiing. To explore the off-piste possibilities and not miss the most interesting routes, it is recommended to hire a guide. For strong skiers, an exciting day route to the village of Bonneval sur Arc will be very interesting. Off-piste routes of varying difficulty lead from the Pissaillas glacier, for example, through the Gorges de Malpasse you can go down to the village of Pont St. Charles and then return to Fornay along the cross-country ski track. This is enough difficult route, especially when the snow is hard, a guide is recommended.

The slopes of Val d'Isere are divided into three main sectors: Bellvarde (2770 m), Solaise (2560 m) and Col de l'Iseran (2765 m), above is the Pissaillas glacier , 3300 m. The resort's legendary black piste with an impressive slope and in some places more like a mogul piste - Face leads to Val d'Isere. Other interesting pistes include OK (Oreiler-Killy) - long, quite difficult in places.

From Bellevarde there are many long red and short blue and even green runs towards Tignes. The Col de l'Iseran sector with simple blue and green pistes is suitable for beginners. It is more convenient to get here by cable car (cabinet) from Fornay, where you can get there by ski-bus. Fornay’s own pistes are red and blue, there is one black one, which passes in places through the forest. Part of the lower routes of the Solaise sector (closest to Val d'Isere) also pass through the forest, the upper sections are open and sunny.

The training slopes are located on the outskirts of Val d'Isere, served by short drag lifts. For snowboarders in different sectors there are snow parks and jumps, the tracks are mainly laid through the forest, there is a boarder cross track. But the tracks of neighboring Tignes are better suited for snowboard lovers, as Sometimes in Val d'Isere you can get stuck on flat areas or in the forest.

Val d'Isere: hotels and chalets

For those looking for more affordable accommodation options, several “suburbs” have been built around Val d’Isère. The not very cozy village of La Daille with ubiquitous faceless high-rise buildings, the more pleasant (but not close) Le Fornet or convenient for skiing fans, Le Laisinant is significantly cheaper than accommodation in the center of the resort. In general, when going to Val d'Isere, you should be prepared for a fairly high price level.

The slopes of Val d'Isère include three main areas: Bellevard, Solace and Col de Lisérand. Bellevard is home to the World Cup track. The excellent black track "Face" has a very varied terrain. The Col de Liserand area includes itself a glacier with the possibility of skiing at altitudes of up to 3300 m. There are mostly simple trails, but it will take quite a long time to get to the glacier. For fans of off-piste skiing, we can recommend the descent along the Col Pere to the source of the Isère and then along the narrow and beautiful gorge Du Malpasset. over the riverbed of the Isère, covered with a snow shell, to the village of Fornet. The most interesting, in terms of sports, tracks are on Bellevarde. The longest track is 5 km ("Verte"). Keep in mind that the difficulty of some tracks is underestimated. A snow park with a half is open for snowboarders. -pipe. On certain dates ( detailed information- at points of sale of subscriptions) an Espace Killy ski pass for a period of 6 days or more gives the opportunity to ski one day at a time in La Pland - Les Arcs, in the Three Valleys, Valmorel. All holders of ski passes valid for 7 days or more have free access to the resort's pool.

VAL D'ISERE- a picturesque Savoyard village with a bell tower of the 11th century is located at an altitude of 1850-2000 m. It offers comfortable accommodation in hotels, apartments and chalets.

Developed infrastructure, lively evenings and a fabulous selection of bars and restaurants. Two ice driving centers where you can try your hand at driving a four-wheel drive car, quad, snowmobile or go-kart. Alpine ski area "ESPACE KILL"(KILLY'S WORLD) is named after the legendary Olympic champion Jean-Claude Killy.

In 1992, the Winter Olympics in downhill racing took place here, and World Cup stages are held here every year. The lifts include two funiculars that pass through ice and rocks. On the other side mountain range located at an altitude of 2000 m Olympic resort of Tignes, where you can also go skiing. Distance to Lyon airport - 220 km, to Geneva airport - 180 km, to Grenoble airport - 200 km, to Chambery airport - 130 km, to Bourg Saint-Maurice (train station) - 30 km.

Recommendations: Despite the Olympic character of the resort, which gave the world skiing many legendary names, more than 60% of the slopes are designed for comfortable and not at all sporty skiing. Such slopes are located mainly at “medium” altitudes in the central part on both sides of the ridge, which conventionally divides this ski area into two vast amphitheatres.

The most demanding experienced skiers or sports skiing enthusiasts will find here “sharp” slopes for every taste, and unlimited opportunities for off-piste skiing. There are also two summer glacier skiing areas.

Historical reference

The appearance of man in these places dates back to the pre-Christian era. The first are considered to be the shepherd settlements of the Celtic tribe of Keutrons. Conquered by the Romans, the valley became one of the routes of communication for legions and trade exchanges. In those days the place was called "Laval", which undoubtedly comes from the Latin "vallis", meaning "high valley". In 1637, the Pope granted autonomy to Laval, which had previously been dependent on the church parish of Tignes. The road to the Tignes church was too dangerous, so the parishioners built their own church here in 1664. So Tinsky Laval became Val d'Isère.

Since 1906, when Louis Bonvie, a native of Val d'Isere, became the champion of France, the history of the resort echoes the history of great names in skiing. In 1948, Henri Oreille brought two gold medals from the Olympic Games in San Moritz. Then a legend was gradually born, thanks to the magnificent performance of the Goichel sisters and the skiing exploits of Jean-Claude Killy, who decorated his sports career with three gold medals at the Olympic Games in Grenoble in 1968.

In the summer of 1929, Parisian Jacques Mouflier comes to Val d'Isere. He is sure that this valley is perfect place for the construction of a ski resort. He managed to convince the local mayor Nicolas Basile that only tourism would save Val d'Isere from withering and help attract young people. But the main work was still ahead - to install water and electricity, establish infrastructure, build hotels, ski lifts. The first mechanical ski lift was opened in 1936 , then in 1938 the Val d'Isère Lift Company was founded, and with the advent cable car Solez Valley began to gradually turn into a full-fledged resort. At the same time, new hotels and boutiques open their doors.

How to get to Val d'Isere

By public transport from Geneva airport you can take a train or express bus to Chambery (two hours), then a train to Bourg St. Maurice + bus to Val d'Isere (about 2-3 hours). Budget-friendly, but problematic

A taxi with a Russian-speaking driver is the most popular transfer from the airport (usually Geneva) to the hotel at the resort. The price depends on the number of passengers and the volume of luggage (you need to choose the best option), and of course on the class of car (minibus). The road is very beautiful and you can stop along the way to photograph the sights. Cost from 555 Eu for the whole company and luggage. Personal travel experience. Reviews about the resort

We visited the resort with an “inspection” in the summer for one day at the end of July 2015 in order to identify the best and worst mountain resorts in the summer. The impressions were the best. This is truly one of the best resorts in the French Alps, especially in summer. What I liked most were the long and beautiful funiculars (we checked not all of them in one day, but only a few), which take you to various recreation areas and parks, where in some you can swim and sunbathe, and in others you can ski on natural snow. During the ascent on the cable car, fantastic views of the mountains and natural national park Vanoise. Everywhere we met different groups involved in active sports. Cyclists, bikers, walkers with sticks (more of a tourist tradition), football players and even horseback riders. A lot of sports equipment is sold and rented on the streets. We managed to “check” only two bars and restaurants and both turned out to be inexpensive, but with good tasty food (France!). It’s better to remain silent about the wine in the bar (France 2!), since it almost caused us to miss the bus “home.” It’s the French who order a glass of wine and sit there all evening, while the Russians “taste” wines in other sizes. 🙂 We didn’t have enough time to see the aquatic center and sports town, but all the booklets were kindly provided by the tourism office, where you can get all the current comprehensive information. At the same time, the employees said that the resort has interesting things worth seeing. Having been here just one day for testing, we concluded that we need to come here again, just to relax with friends. So there will definitely be continued reports and reviews.
