Weekend ski resort: Kavgolovo. Weekend ski resort: Kavgolovo Ski center “Yukki Park”

I adore St. Andrew's Descent, living in Kyiv, I visited there very often, for some time I even went to the art workshop right opposite St. Andrew's Church.

The most best time for walking it is early in the morning; there are no tourists or souvenir sellers here. Kyiv generally wakes up quite late. Andreevsky Descent begins to “wake up” for lunch at 11-12 o’clock, so if you want to walk in silence, then get up early.

Andreevsky Descent today

Andreevsky Descent is one of the most popular streets in Kyiv; it is a center of artists, antique dealers and craftsmen. Only here you can buy original souvenirs and cute little things, embroidered shirts, made by talented people.

The street is rich in various attractions, legends and museums.

History of Andreevsky Descent

According to legend, the descent is named in honor of St. Andrew the Primordial. Once upon a time, the Dnieper looked more like a sea, and when Apostle Andrew installed an Orthodox cross on the top of the hill, the water disappeared. And then Saint Andrew predicted the emergence of a great Christian city in this place. It was on the spot where the saint stood that the church was erected. By the way, this is why there are no bells on the church. It is believed that their ringing can “wake up” the water again.

St. Andrew's Church

St. Andrew's Church, which we see today, was built according to the design of the famous architect B. Rastrelli, by order of Empress Catherine II. The temple terrace is considered mystical place, many believe that if you stand in this place at least once, you can fall in love with Kyiv forever.

If you go up Andreevsky Descent, then on the right you will see One Street Museum. I visited there, very unusual and interesting place. Ticket price 30 UAH.

As you climb further you can see House-Museum of M. Bulgakov(Andreevsky Spusk, 13), his monument is located nearby. They say that the shadow of the black cat Behemoth still wanders along Andreevsky Descent at night, and you know, it seems that I saw him even during the day. There is always a huge black cat sitting at the entrance to the theater.

Monument to Mikhail Bulgakov

On the same side you will see Castle of Richard the Lionheart. In fact, he has nothing to do with the knight. The building was built in 1904 by order of industrialist Dmitry Orlov. He planned to rent out apartments, but he was killed. The widow was unable to pay off her debts and sold the Castle at auction. After which people began to move in there, but the residents could not live there for long, as at night they heard terrible howls and groans. In fact, there were no ghosts there, simply because of non-payment for the work of the stove-makers, the latter decided to take revenge and placed glass bottles in the chimneys, which made a terrible howl during a strong wind.

Later, the editorial office of the newspaper “Shershen” was located here, for which Ivan Nechuy-Levitsky and Lesya Ukrainka wrote. IN Soviet times A communal apartment was built here, but over time the residents moved out. The castle is currently empty, but they are planning to open a hotel there.

There is a staircase next to the castle. You can climb it up the mountain and admire the beautiful panorama. On observation deck There is a kissing bench.

On the opposite side there is another staircase leading to Castle Hill, which offers a magnificent view of the (elite city within the city). On the mountain itself there are dilapidated ancient gravestones and crypts.

Behind St. Andrew's Church you can see a bronze monument to Pronya Prokopovna and Golokhvastov.

In addition to all the listed attractions, you can visit a lot of galleries, interesting shops and cafes. Very often, free exhibitions of local craftsmen and artists are held on Andreevsky Spusk.

The easiest way to do this is from the Poshtovaya Ploshchad metro station. You can start exploring the descent from above. To do this, immediately exit the metro, take the funicular (fare 1.5 UAH) and go up. From there, pass Mikhailovskaya Square and turn right and go down Desyatinnaya Street.

And, as usual, a map.

  • From the Golden Gate - purple line, 15-20 minutes walk.
  • From metro station Pochtovaya Ploshchad – lilac line, walk 5-10 minutes.
