Studenets Estate (Krasnopresnensky Park). Park "Krasnaya Presnya" (Studenets Estate) Studenets Estate and Krasnaya Presnya Park

On Mantulinskaya Street, all residents of Presnya and other districts of Moscow know the picturesque Krasnaya Presnya Park, a vacation spot for many generations of Muscovites. However, this place is historical monument, here was located a unique park ensemble, built according to the design of the master of Moscow late classicism Domenico Gilardi, is the Studenets estate. It can be placed on a par with the most famous Moscow estates of the 18th-19th centuries.

The historical name Studenets probably refers to the stream of the same name, which allowed the owners of the estate to create a system of ponds and canals supported by the icy waters of the stream. In turn, the rural residents of Presnya, living near the estate, have used the waters of Studenets for domestic purposes for many centuries.

According to another version, the name dates back to the 17th century, when the owners of this then-Moscow estate dug a deep well with clean, cold water, which only wealthy people of old Moscow and its outskirts could afford.

The founder of the Studenets estate is considered to be Prince Vladimir Andreevich the Brave, a cousin of the Russian heroic prince Dmitry Ivanovich Donskoy, one of the main participants in the famous Battle of Kulikovo in 1380. At that time, the village of Vypryazhkovo was located here, the source of income for the first owners. Then the estate became the property of the princes Gagarins, and at the turn of the 17th-18th centuries a luxurious palace, where the famous statesman of the Peter the Great era lived, Matvey Petrovich Gagarin, Nerchinsk governor, head of the Siberian order and the Armory Chamber, commandant of Moscow, first head of the Siberian province.

For numerous abuses of official position, embezzlement and extortion, he was convicted and hanged in 1721, all his property was confiscated in favor of the state. However, a decade later, Empress Anna Ioannovna returned the estate to his heirs. It was at this time that a modern Dutch garden was laid out here and a system of ponds and canals was created, which for a long time were called Gagarin Ponds. Even then, Studenets was famous for its festivities and gathering place for high society from all over Moscow.

In 1804, Count Fyodor Andreevich Tolstoy, a major bibliophile and member of the Society of Lovers of Russian Literature, became the new owner of the estate. After the Patriotic War of 1812, the estate passed to Tolstoy's son-in-law, Minister of Internal Affairs, future Moscow Governor-General, Adjutant General Count Arseny Andreevich Zakrevsky. This statesman participated in military campaigns against Napoleonic France in 1805-1807, in particular, the famous Battle of Austerlitz, the Russian-Swedish War of 1808-1809, which ended with the annexation of Finland to Russia, the Turkish War of 1810-1811, and the Patriotic War of 1812. and foreign campaigns of the Russian army in 1813-1814. During his time, the estate flourished as part of the process of rebuilding Moscow after Napoleon's devastating invasion. In the 1820s, a small wooden palace and several park pavilions were built here, of which only one, the Octagon, has survived.

In his estate, Zakrevsky decided to capture the memory of military campaigns and comrades with whom he spent all his military years. On one of the islands on the ponds, a memorial column dedicated to 1812 was erected. A white stone column of the Tuscan order (“Tuscan Column”) stood on a massive cubic pedestal. Once upon a time it was crowned by a statue of Glory, on the side faces there were carved images of swords entwined with ribbons, and not on the pedestal of the column - carved wreaths.

On other artificial quadrangular islands, Zakrevsky ordered the erection of monuments to the heroes of the Patriotic War and other battles in which he himself was a participant and under whose command he served. This is how monuments to the corps commander of the 3rd Western Army S.M. appeared. Kamensky, commander of the 1st Western Army M.B. Barclay de Tolly, Chief of the General Staff P.M. Volkonsky, General A.P. Ermolov. According to historical evidence, Ermolov visited the estate and saw a monument in his honor. Russian writer and journalist M.I. Pylyaev in his book “Old Moscow” (1891) wrote: “Each of these islands was dedicated to the memory of one of the heroes... On each, in the middle of the trees, there was either a temple or a monument to the named commanders.”

At the same time, bridges were built across ponds and canals with a clear structure of the banks.
The architect Gilardi also planned an irrigation system and a fishery that generated income for the owner. However, most likely, after his resignation in 1831, Zakrevsky sold the estate to one of the richest people of that time, Pavel Nikolaevich Demidov, known for his charitable activities, in particular the opening of the first children's hospital. In 1834, he transferred the Studenets estate free of charge to the state. The wife of Emperor Nicholas I, Alexandra Feodorovna, included her among charitable institutions and allowed her to open a gardening school to train experienced gardeners - pupils of the Orphanage. In summer time Pupils of the Catherine Institute for Noble Maidens rested in the estate. So the estate existed peacefully until the tragic events of the 1917 revolution and the fall of the autocracy.

IN Soviet years The cultural heritage of tsarism was seriously damaged as part of the ideological struggle against the entire traditional order. Studenets, located in the legendary district of revolutionary workers, was no exception.

In 1931, it was transferred to the Trekhgornaya Manufactory, and then it became the Krasnopresnensky Park of Culture and Recreation. Some of the canals were filled in, and monuments to military heroes disappeared by the middle of the 20th century. According to some sources, they were blown up in October 1941, according to others, they were destroyed as a result of German bombing. The memorial column was also damaged and later restored. The main house of the estate also died in the first half of the 20th century, although in the 60s the foundation and one outbuilding were still preserved. The empire-style manor gates, restored according to ancient sketches in the 1990s, were also dismantled.

In 1973, the Octagon pavilion was moved to a new location when Mantulinskaya Street was expanded. At the same time, the holy spring that flowed under the pavilion, at which, according to historical legend, the soldiers of the Moscow militia took communion in 1812, disappeared.

However, the Moscow authorities have begun the restoration of the front house and it is worth believing that modern Muscovites and residents of Presnya will be able to at least to some extent restore the historical memory distorted during the social experiments of one tragic period in our history.

Antique Studenets estate- a unique park ensemble of the 18th-19th centuries within the boundaries of modern Moscow, built according to the design of the outstanding architect D.I. Gilardi. It is located on the banks of the Moscow River in the Presnensky district of the capital, on the territory of the Krasnaya Presnya park, and the area of the ancient estate occupies 18.3 hectares. Coming now to the territory historical place, which has long been part of modern Moscow, you can examine the preserved one - the Octagon garden pavilion, and stroll along the ponds and canals.

It is believed that the estate received so much unusual name in honor of Studenets stream flowing through its entire territory, it was he who laid the foundation for the amazingly beautiful artificial ponds and canals, since the icy waters of the stream allowed the owners Studenets estate maintain water balance in the pond system they created. Several centuries ago, residents of the villages adjacent to the estate, located in this part of Presnya, used the purest spring water for cooking, and the housewife came here with wooden buckets hanging on a rocker.

Other researchers claim that in XVII century only very wealthy residents could buy spring water in barrels, and they associate the name “Studenets” with a deep well dug on the territory of the old estate, the water in which was filled by a deep water vein that fed the stream itself. In old Moscow, only very wealthy people could afford to dig such a deep well, which indicates the high income of the first owners of the ancient estate near Moscow.

Founder Studenets estate considered a prince Vladimir Brave, cousin of the hero Dmitry Donskoy, who became famous during the Battle of Kulikovo. At that time, the village of Vypryazhkovo was located in this historical place, the income from which went to the first owners of the aristocratic estate. Later, the old estate became the property of the richest Princes Gagarins, and at the turn of the XVII-XVIII centuries, a majestic palace, in which Voivode M.P. lived. Gagarin. Later, the governor was executed, and his estate came under state control, but Empress Anna Ioannovna subsequently returned the old estate to the heirs of Prince Gagarin. At this time, a luxurious Dutch garden was laid out on the territory of the estate, a unique system of ponds and canals was laid out, which residents of old Moscow called Gagarin Ponds.

In 1804, the Studenets estate changed its owner, and its new owner became Count Tolstoy. But only Arseniy Zakrevsky- Count Tolstoy’s son-in-law, who inherited the estate after the military events of 1812, managed to give the old noble estate a unique look. Setting up a new estate as your own country house After the devastating Patriotic War of 1912, when not only Moscow suffered, but all the noble estates adjacent to it, he ordered the construction of a new manor house.

Arseniy Zakrevsky turned the old manor park in a peculiar monument to the Patriotic War of 1812, on his order, a unique system of artificial canals and ponds filled with clear spring water was built. The resulting islands, rectangular in shape, outlined on all sides by canals, received original names - each of them was named after the Russian military leader, under whose command Arseny Zakrevsky himself fought.

Bronze busts of military leaders were installed in the center of the islands, and a majestic white stone tower, called the Octagon, was built above the spring. At the same time, exquisite bridges made in the Empire style, which was then just entering architectural fashion, were thrown across ponds and canals with clearly defined banks. Irrigation system, like the main part of the buildings Studenets estate, was carried out according to the design of the architect D.I. Gilardi; he also planned the fishery, which was a significant part of the income of the owner of the estate.

During the Soviet years Studenets estate was nationalized, the Society of Gardening Lovers settled on its territory, thanks to which a vocational school was opened here, and many new trees of various species were planted on the territory of the old park. Fortunately, the territory of the ancient estate near Moscow was never built up with unsightly buildings, since back in 1930 the Moscow authorities decided to establish the Krasnaya Presnya park here. Now Muscovites celebrate Maslenitsa on its ancient territory, New Year, City Day, spend the weekend.

But most of the monuments cultural heritage dating back to the mid-19th century have been lost. Some of the unique canals were filled in, many ancient bridges were demolished, but new bridges were built that were not particularly sophisticated. During the years of Soviet power, busts of military leaders who distinguished themselves in the Patriotic War of 1812 disappeared, and only the surviving Tuscan column on an artificial island reminds of the former military monument, although the inscriptions on it have long been erased, and the winged figure erected at the top has long disappeared.

Old manor house practically destroyed, its restoration began in 2010, but instead of the former masterpiece of architecture, a new modern building is gradually rising before the eyes of Muscovites, which bears virtually no resemblance to the former majestic palace. Coming now to the territory of a historical place that has long been part of modern Moscow, you can carefully examine the preserved landmark of the Studenets estate- the Octagon garden pavilion, which in the 90s of the last century was moved to a new location in the picturesque Krasnaya Presnya park.

The pavilion was erected in the form of a small snow-white one-story tower, built in the shape of an octagon, topped with a green domed roof. On the facade of the pavilion you can see four large arched windows, through which the interior of the turret is filled with sunny color. Each of the four entrances on the sides is decorated with small columns, which are decorated with a portico and a canopy on top.

Of particular interest are front gate, made of heavy cast iron, they are just a copy of a lost cultural heritage monument, the gates were made according to ancient sketches in 1990. Walking around old manor Student, you can admire the majestic Tuscan column or take a photo against its background, and then just relax in the park with unique canals and picturesque ancient bridges, reminiscent of better times noble nest.

Now the basis of the Krasnaya Presnya park is made up of poplar and linden alleys, between which in the first half XIX century a unique cascade, consisting of three ponds. And between the majestic trees you can see the remains of a summer theater from the Soviet period, modern children's cafes and various attractions.

Acquainted with attractions of the Studenets estate It is possible during an organized excursion, but anyone can get here on their own. The historical estate is located within Moscow, at the address: Mantulinskaya street 5. From the Moscow metro station “Ulitsa 1905”, you must first go to the Krasnopresnenskaya headband, and then follow the street 1905 all the way to Mantulinskaya street, then turn right. Nearby there are such capital metro stations as “Vystavochnaya” and “Krasnopresnenskaya”, from where you can walk to the old Studenets estate in just 15 minutes.

Surrounded by modern skyscrapers on the banks of the Moscow River is the Krasnaya Presnya cultural and recreation park (formerly the Studenets estate). In the 19th century, the estate was considered a masterpiece of landscape architecture. Our contemporaries walk along the canals along the alleys where Alexander Pushkin, Denis Davydov, Evgeny Baratynsky took a promenade...

Historical reference:

In the 14th century, here lay the “village of Vypryazhkovo on Studenets,” which belonged to the grandson of Ivan Kalita, the Serpukhov prince Vladimir Andreevich the Brave, hero of the Battle of Kulikovo. His yard was located nearby - on the “Three Mountains”.

“Every centimeter of the huge (16.5 hectares) protected park breathes history. At the beginning of the 18th century, on the banks of the Studenets stream, the country palace of the Gagarin princes was located. The water from Studenets had such healing powers that the owners of the estate built a well from which all those who were suffering could quench their thirst .

Later, already in the 19th century, the new owner of the Studenets estate, Arseny Zakrevsky, adjutant general of Alexander I and hero of the Patriotic War of 1812, reconstructed the territory. The author of innovative ideas was the outstanding architect Domenico Gilardi. The estate made such an impression on its contemporaries that it was deservedly called “absolute Venice in the gardens.”

Then a lot changed. Unfortunately, during the Soviet period the park lost its original charm. Many sculptures and several beautiful gardens disappeared without a trace. But today, constant, careful and painstaking work is being carried out to restore what was lost. This is how the debt of history and Muscovites is returned,” reports the official website of the park http://p-kp.ru/

In fairness, it is necessary to clarify that Student’s troubles began not in the Soviet period, but long before the revolution. Both the estate and the Garden of the Studenets School of Gardening became fairly dilapidated at the turn of the 19th-20th centuries. According to the commission's report, "the buildings were found in extremely unsatisfactory condition. The properties are not fenced, access is open to wandering people. One of the buildings is uninhabited due to its dilapidation." IN different years the estate suffered from fires and floods. As of 1908, the main house of the estate was destroyed, but the outbuildings were preserved, some of the canals were filled in, and the island was occupied by greenhouses and greenhouses. In 1915, they planned to relocate the horticulture school to the outskirts of the city of Sochi, and adapt the territory of the estate for industrial needs.

These plans were interrupted by the First World War and revolutionary disasters. After the revolution, the manor park became a resting place for workers and their families. They began to thoroughly revive the park in the 1930s, eliminating the railway line leading to the Trekhgornaya Manufactory. In 1932, on the site of the Studenets estate and the Studenets Garden of the School of Horticulture, the Krasnaya Presnya Culture and Recreation Park was created with a concert stage, attractions, a children's playground, and a boat dock. Festive festivities ended with fireworks on the water. There is also no need to idealize Stalinist Moscow - in the neighborhood there were vegetable gardens, landfills and vacant lots.

According to the General Plan for the reconstruction of Moscow in 1935, the territory was included in the huge Krasnopresnensky Park from Kamer-Kollezhsky Val to the Belorusskaya line railway(at the same time, the Vagankovskoye cemetery would be destroyed). As an option, it was planned to create a Hydrotechnical Park in Studenets with canals, locks and other structures. These ideas were buried by a new war - the Great Patriotic War. Railway tracks were again laid to Trekhgorka.

Although park development and reconstruction projects historical estate arose in both the 1960s and 1970s, work on the reconstruction of the main building began only in 2006 and should be completed in the second quarter of 2014. It seems that the builders are not in much of a hurry (it’s not an Olympic facility), and the completion date may be pushed back.

The name of the estate on the banks of the Moscow River comes from the Studenets stream. Before the Mytishchi water pipeline was installed in Moscow, the wells on Three Mountains had the best water supply in the city drinking water, for which rich people sent water carriers even several kilometers away.

On Mantulinskaya Street, the Octagon well pavilion, built in the 1820s by the famous architect Domenico Gilardi in the Empire style, has been preserved. The pavilion is decorated in the ancient Roman spirit from the time of the first Roman emperor Augustus and is crowned with a small dome. The structure received its name from the Latin word meaning octagon.

There were bronze lion masks on the walls, and natural spring water flowed from the mouths of the predators. Around 1974, the masks were dismantled, and in 1975, due to redevelopment of the territory, the pavilion was moved using winches and can now be seen in the park near the World Trade Center.

In 1955, a new cinema "Krasnaya Presnya" (architect A. Raport) opened on the site of the demolished buildings of the gardening school. According to the Decree of the Moscow Government, in 2001 the building of the cinema, which had become unprofitable, was leased “for educational and entertainment activities” to the International Foundation for the Development of Cinema and Television for Children and Youth (Rolan Bykov Foundation). Now there are no signs on it, the original stucco decorations on the facade and lanterns near the entrance have been preserved, although over time the building itself was for some reason repainted from light yellow to a gloomy brown color.

Among the numerous cultural events held in the Krasnaya Presnya park, the “Street of History” festival was memorable: Russian warriors from different eras, domino players over a glass of beer, a dissident samizdatist and other characters from the ancient and recent past appeared before the townspeople.

There is a dance floor in front of the concert stage, and there are ballet and dance clubs in the park. And you can get acquainted with ethnic foreign dances at the Latinfest festival.

In the capital, it was once an ancient noble estate. This place was called “Studenets”. It originally belonged to the Gagarins. However, the estate was glorified by its later owner, Arseny Zakrevsky. Being a hero of the war of 1812, he became governor-general of the capital during the reign of Nicholas the First.

Story

Created in 1932 on the site of the estate and the neighboring garden of the Studenetsk Gardening School, the Krasnaya Presnya park has a very interesting story. In the Studenets estate, special rules for that time always prevailed. This landowner took special care of his serfs.

Zakrevsky turned his estate, in which he settled after leaving service, into a unique one in Moscow, and in Russia, memorial Complex, telling about the victory of Russia. To do this, he invited the architect Gilardi to the estate.

Thanks to joint efforts in “Studenets”, on the site of which the Krasnaya Presnya park is located today, a unique complex of Dutch ponds and artificial islands. Each of them bore the name of Zakrevsky’s fellow military leaders and was decorated with their bronze busts.

Historical heritage

The capital is famous for many places where people go to relax. But this architectural and historical monument is one of the oldest. Every resident of the capital or guest has the opportunity, by going to the Krasnaya Presnya park in Moscow and walking along its alleys, to admire its canals with bridges. They are called a masterpiece of landscape architecture of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, “the absolute Venice of the gardens.” At one time, Pushkin, Baratynsky,

Park today

History breathes in every corner here. The Krasnaya Presnya park (every metropolitan resident knows how to get to it) has an area of sixteen and a half hectares. At the beginning of the eighteenth century, on the banks of the small river Studenets, which, according to legend, has healing powers, was still located the majestic palace of the princely family of the Gagarins. But today very little remains of this historical splendor. Busts of war heroes were destroyed during the revolution. And later, the socialist regime destroyed the system of reservoirs for which the Gagarin Ponds were so famous, around which the Krasnaya Presnya park spread out.

How to get there - information for tourists

This place for recreation and entertainment is located at the address: Mantulinskaya Street, 5. Indigenous residents who often come to Krasnaya Presnya Park know very well how to get there. But tourists can take the metro and then walk. The station “Vystavochnaya” is located closest to the park - just seven hundred meters away. From the stations "Ulitsa 1905 Goda" and "Mezhdunarodnaya" it is a twenty-minute walk.

Krasnaya Presnya Park, the photo of which is evidence that everyone will find something to their liking here, is open to everyone from nine in the morning to ten in the evening. Every visitor will be able to discover something special and interesting for themselves.

Those who come here to relax should definitely go to the Tuscan Column, which was erected in honor of the victory in the Patriotic War of the twelfth year. It came to us from the Studenets estate and is made of white stone. The column is decorated with scabbards and wreaths, and was once crowned by a winged figure holding a sword in his hand, but it disappeared over time.

Other masterpieces of antiquity have survived to this day, for example, “Octagon” - an octagonal fountain - a water pump created by Gilardi and which survived the Soviet era.

Behind last years Krasnaya Presnya Park has acquired various fashionable innovations: workout areas, a skate park. According to the recollections of old-timers, although it used to be considered a picturesque place, it was quite “wild” during the Soviet years. Today, it offers entertainment for every taste: from bicycle rentals to an open library. Entrance to the park is free.

On summer days, children with their parents and elderly people come here. In the evenings, you can meet young people - groups and couples in love, who have chosen for themselves the benches and secluded corners that are so abundant in the Krasnaya Presnya park.

Events

The former estate "Studenets" today abounds in entertainment, most of which are provided free of charge. Activities such as qigong and fitness classes and competitions are held here. The park's management pleases guests and residents of the capital with a variety of event posters. Every weekend there are dances and programs for children, chess tournaments, author evenings, festivals and animation programs, markets. Celebrations are always held here in honor of Victory Day, etc.

For the little ones

This is great for parents children's park. "Krasnaya Presnya" is equipped with a skatepark that is so popular among teenagers, designed in a format that is unconventional for our country. The curves or skate plazas of this site completely replicate the natural landscape, and numerous obstacles are made to imitate the street.

In the park you can rent bicycles, which have become especially popular among Muscovites this season. Their rental point is located directly next to the skatepark. In addition, here you can ride velomobiles and electric cars, many ride ATVs and roller skates. The rental cost ranges from fifty to four hundred rubles, depending on vehicle and time.

Reading room

Another innovation that has been added to Krasnaya Presnya Park this year is a reading room under open air. It works according to the bookcrossing system, which is very common in the world today. The principle is this: whoever reads a book passes it on to someone else. Such a system has already been implemented in the capital’s parks - this is the “Books in the Parks” project. Literature can be selected at a special stall. And although you can enjoy literature in the fresh air only in clear, cloudless weather, since this is hardly possible on a rainy day, nevertheless there are always a lot of people who want to do it.

Finding this open reading room in a park rugged with canals intersected by “humpbacked” bridges is not easy. You just need to focus on wooden houses, located on the central alley, as well as on sun loungers, which are visible from afar and placed here especially for those who like to read.

Summer cinema

In the best traditions, Krasnaya Presnya Park also has its own summer cinema. For this purpose, a stage is equipped here. And numerous spectators are seated to watch directly on the wooden floor or on ottomans and chairs. An excellent view also opens from the benches located on the sides. Movie shows here are free. Work schedule summer cinema can be studied on the official website of the park, as well as at the entrance, where a huge stand hangs. In the free time from large film screenings, creative meetings or performances of musicians, actors and directors take place on the stage.

Lecture hall

The International School of Design also chose “Krasnaya Presnya” for its summer lectures and classes, located under a tent on a small island in the very center of the park. Everyone who comes here at twelve o'clock can attend seminars by the school's teachers on the most various topics, including graphic and

Nutrition

Many visitors admit that things in the park today are not very good regarding this issue. The only existing restaurant at the main entrance was closed for reconstruction. Therefore, you can have a snack at the Vienna Sausages kiosk, where, after spending about two hundred rubles, you can eat well. There is also a vending machine with food and drinks nearby - chocolates, soda, juices and coffee. And next to the stage there is a tent selling coffee to go, various snacks and homemade lemonade.
