The current buildings (or rather their remains) here were built in classical ancient period- in the 8th century BC. This is the sanctuary of Hera. The remains of the temple “Hera Akrea” (“Hera on the Edge”) and “Hera Limenya” (“Hera at the Lake”) have been preserved. The sanctuary belonged ancient Corinth, but was abandoned after the Romans sacked the city in 146 BC. The sanctuary of “Hera Acreus” stands almost at the water’s edge. Parts of the columns and the outlines of the halls are also visible on the shore.

According to legend, it was from here that the mythical hero Jason sailed to Colchis for the Golden Fleece.

There is also a small beach near the water; this place will be very interesting for divers. I dived with a mask and snorkel, the views in the depths are simply amazing!!! Even some ladies from our group, who had never dived with a mask and snorkel in their lives, could not resist and swam along the coastal rocks, looking at the blue depths and animal world bays.

Not far from the cape Malagawi there is an old one of the same name lighthouse. It's just a few hundred meters from the archaeological site Temple of Hera. It offers a very beautiful view of north coast Peloponnese and the Gulf of Corinth. From here you can even see the entrance with the piers to the Corinth Canal. Particularly beautiful views open up if you come here at sunset.

Further, the coast makes a turn, forming a peninsula, in the center of which is the village of Perachora, and on the other side a number of picturesque small villages - Pissia, Strava and others. On the way to Agios Sotiro beach, we passed the monastery of Agios Nikolaos o Neos, built in the 10th-11th centuries AD and being the oldest Byzantine structure in the region.

Beaches in Loutraki itself are marked blue flag- i.e. they are excellent in purity and beauty. But the surrounding area has much more to appreciate for beach lovers. These are places such as Skinos, Skaloma, Milokopi, Strava, Sterma and Mavrolimni.

IN Skaloma town (Skaloma) there is no beach as such, but a very beautiful coastal strip with coniferous trees, under which you can hide from the hot sun. The bay is very picturesque. I snorkeled there. I found a lot of interesting things at the bottom, including tackle - a homemade spoon made from oyster shells. There are clay deposits on the shore. When wetted with water, it softens and you can make something out of it.

At the same time, there are five-star hotels to choose from and ordinary apartments that are completely affordable for the average tourist. Most hotels have been renovated, some have been built. They are located both in the city center and not far from the beaches. At the same time, only people living in these hotels are allowed to visit the beaches near five-star hotels. Just west of Loutraki is Lake Vogliagmeni, which is actually a closed bay connected to the waters of the Corinth Canal thanks to a narrow strait. This lake experiences frequent ebbs and flows. Perahora- a fairly large and pleasant-looking village. History says that next to the temple of Hera there was antique city, which is now under water, and it was located opposite Corinth on the opposite shore of the bay, the Corinthians called it “pera choir” - “the city further / the city opposite.” One of the charms of Perahora is the presence of a local shop right on the road olive oil producer, which, by the way, is held by the head of the district administration (unless, of course, he lost his post after the last local elections). Finding the store is very easy - at the entrance there will be a U-shaped fork: right into the village, left towards the lake and the Temple of Hera, go left and immediately after the fork there will be a store. You can find olive oil inside good quality, many types of olives, many of which are prepared according to unique recipes, olive oil soap, as well as other local products: honey, wine, capers, herbal teas, etc. The man really loves Russians and his occupation, so he treats them with his products and gives small gifts to clients. In a word, we stocked up on oil, honey and giant white olives with garlic and moved on.

We return to Perahora and continue our journey towards the lake, about 10 kilometers. The lake was once freshwater, but then a narrow channel opened, which now connects the lake with the sea and the water is, of course, salty. The reservoir has two names - Lake Vulyagmenis(not to be confused with the lake of the same name, located in the Athens district of Vouliagmeni) or Lake Iraeu(after the name of the excavations of the temple of Hera, which in Greek are called Iraeo or in Russian Heraion). However, in antiquity the lake was called by another name, “Eschatyotis”. The lake is large and beautiful surrounded by green mountains. There are several fish taverns around the lake, the first two are found immediately at the point where the road reaches the lake shore. Loutraki is located at the base of a small peninsula, on the edge of which in the very west on Cape Melagavi, as you might guess, stands a lighthouse built in 1897. Southern and north shore Gulf of Corinth, mountains of Boeotia, Loutraki and Corinth in the distance. Very a nice place, many come and sit there for a long time on the edge of the rocks, relaxing. It is especially beautiful in the evening, before sunset.

Under the lighthouse on the shore of a small bay there are excavations Temple of Hera that's why the place is called Herayon(Iraeo in Greek). The place itself is very beautiful and the excavations are interesting; you can see a stone cistern and the bases of the columns of the temple, or rather, two temples. Apparently, for this reason, a free diving championship was held in this place a couple of years ago. By the way, when you live in Greece and see ancient excavations all the time, it’s somehow difficult to be impressed by new ones (especially after the Acropolis, Corinth, Delphi, Olympia). But you don’t want to leave this place, there is some kind of energy point here, a unique combination of antiquity, Orthodoxy, sea and rocks. After staying there for some time, you notice that other people are also in no hurry to leave this place. Yes, admission is free, by the way.

Well, now to monasteries, of which in the area Loutraki 7 pieces: St. Potapius, St. John, St. Gerasim, St. Stephen, St. Nicholas, Holy Trinity and Prophet Elijah. The Monastery of the Holy Trinity is located to the right of Loutraki, if you look from the Corinth Canal, St. Nicholas and Stephen somewhere above the road to the lake, perhaps the dirt road leads there, next time we’ll find out. And the other four monasteries are located above Loutraki, an asphalt road leads there. The first places you encounter on the way are nunneries located opposite each other. St. Gerasim(to the right of the road) and St. John(left).

There are two churches in the monastery, one larger, the other smaller. The bell tower, unlike what is generally accepted for Greek churches, is built directly on the ground in the form of three arches, through which you can see the sea and Lake Vouliagmenis. There is a large church shop.

From there you can go on a further journey around Greece. We studied the ways to get from Loutraki to Athens in advance, and the trip did not cause us any difficulties.

By bus

In fact, the only way to get from Loutraki to Athens is by public transport is a bus. Unfortunately, railway communication in the country is extremely poorly developed, and you can only travel by train to certain cities in Greece. Bus transport, on the contrary, runs even in the most remote corners countries, and a large number of buses means you don’t have to wait for hours for your flight.

Flights between Loutraki and Athens are operated by the country's largest carrier KTEL Korinthias. There are quite a lot of buses, and additional buses are added during the peak tourist season. The first bus departs from Loutraki at 06:00, the last at 21:30. The journey takes about two hours, as buses stop at other places along the way. settlements.

In Athens, buses arrive at the bus station Terminal A, located at 100 Kiffissou Street. If you further need to go to the airport, you can get there by bus X93 (service interval is 35 minutes during the day and 65 at night). If you wish, you can rent a car and travel around the country in it. True, finding a rental office in Loutraki is not so easy. You can try to search and book a car online using special services. But, I’ll tell you from experience, finding cheap cars in Greece (as, for example, in Spain or Croatia) is not at all easy. Even the most budget options cost almost 90 euros per day.

Results

My sister and I traveled both to and from Loutraki by bus. As I noted, it is not possible to get from here to Athens by train (you must first go by bus to Corinth, and then change to a train, which takes longer and is more expensive), and the option with a car was not suitable, primarily because that neither my sister nor I have a driver’s license.

Entertainment Loutraki

In principle, all resort towns in Greece are somewhat similar to each other. Loutraki is not much different either. There is some variety of hotels (with varying price ranges and service levels), many of them located on the hills of the mountains. We stayed in one of these hotels, so it was a long walk down to the beach. But such charging is beneficial.

I saw a lot of bored tourists who didn't know what to do in the city. There really aren’t many attractions in Loutraki, but you can easily get to other places by bus or taxi. famous places, for example, the temple of the goddess Hera, the ancient Greek Acropolis, Olympia, the ruins of Mycenae and Corinth.

Loutraki is famous for its casino, which is located in the hotel " Club Hotel Casino Loutraki 5*", the largest not only in Greece, but also in Europe. It operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. But our group doesn’t really like gambling, so we only came in to have a look. We sat in a cozy bar and even met compatriots heatedly discussing their winnings.

How much does a holiday in Loutraki cost? October 2014.

I was very lucky with the weather. On the calendar it was October 7, and on the thermometer it was +30, and these +30 felt like 26, it was so comfortably warm, but not hot. The water was like fresh milk with small waves. The town of Loutraki, the beach is pebble, clean, well-groomed, not wide, even narrow in places. Everything is paid. We flew to Athens, transfer at the expense of the tour operator. The ticket was also purchased from a tour operator. Price for a week, breakfast + dinner for two - 50,000 rubles.

We lived in Loutraki, went on an excursion to Athens, the ticket cost 17 euros round trip, the bus ride took an hour and a half. We also used the metro, very minimalist, the price depending on the number of days and trips from 1 euro to 20 euros. The price for the Acropolis is 10-15 euros, the queue is not long, but there is a lot of people walking around the ruins, although it was not even the season. National Archaeological Museum- 7 euros. There are many excursions from Loutraki, but they are all monotonous (forgive me), just ruins.

Food and products

We ate at the hotel, but a couple of times we had to eat in cafes and restaurants, so we came across expensive ones. I had to eat at fast foods a couple of times.

A glass of wine 5-10 euros, Dorada fish with a side dish (three potatoes) - 20 euros. Just skin and bones, they weren’t full at all, but it didn’t come out cheap.

Souvenirs and other goods

On the central streets of Athens famous brands are presented, the collections are different from Russian ones, prices are lower than in Russia, especially for the Zara brand, there is a chic bazaar in the old city, you will find everything from figurines, embroidery, tablecloths. Everything is very beautiful, take more money). At the bazaar and in small shops, do not hesitate to bargain. Prices are reduced no worse than in Egyptian bazaars. A plate is 15 euros, average figurines are 25 euros, expensive embroidery is 40-50 euros. magnets from 1 euro to five.

Cost of services and entertainment

This vacation is for families without children, as there is no entertainment for children. But for a family who wants to relax quietly, see historical places and soak up the sun, this is an ideal option.

Where is the best place to stay?

Our hotel was called Possidonion (cat. C, 2 stars). It was the cheapest one offered by the tour operator, but we did not regret that we took it. The hotel is located on the second line (on the main street), on a square with a fountain, the sea was very close. We got a room on the second floor with a corner balcony and a view of the fountain. The room had two beds, bedside tables, a table, a mini-fridge, its own air conditioning, and a TV (though we hardly watched it, because all the channels were Greek). Furniture and plumbing are normal. The trash was taken out every day (if you left the keys at the reception), the towels were changed once, the linen was not changed.

The breakfasts were quite good (I expected much worse from two stars). Every day there was the following set of products: sliced cheese and sausage, boiled eggs, fresh cucumbers, jam, butter, raisin muffin, sesame buns, tea, coffee, milk, freshly squeezed orange juice.

The resort town of Loutraki itself is small, but cozy and calm. Loutraki is located on the coast of the Corinthian Gulf of the Ionian Sea. The embankment is long, quite beautiful, with palm trees. It pauses a little in one place, then continues again. As usual in resorts, a certain number of cafes and restaurants overlook the embankment. A distinctive feature of the resort is mineral water. It comes straight from the tap and tastes good. We boldly drank it, boiled tea and took it in a bottle with us on the excursion. There are quite strong winds in the evening and morning. On our balcony, plastic chairs rolled, driven by the wind, from end to end of the balcony.

We went with a friend on an 8-day sightseeing tour"Treasures of the Peloponnese" with accommodation in resort town Loutraki (our tour cost 684 euros with breakfast). from St. Petersburg to Greece and back was through Araxos airport. It takes about two hours to get to the resort of Loutraki from the airport. The tour was organized in such a way that in the morning we went on excursions of various durations (Athens, Mystras, Monastery of St. Potapius, Patras, Olympia, Epidaurus, Nafplion, Mycenae, a cruise around the islands of Aegina, Angistri), and in the evening we could relax and swim in the sea in Loutraki. The tour was intense and we really enjoyed it. We usually returned from excursions at 5-6 pm.

In the evening after the excursions we went swimming every day. The water was warm, 22-23 degrees. The beach in Loutraki is pebbly. Pebbles are different. From the edge where we usually stopped, it is large, towards the center of the beach it is smaller. Just from 7 to 9 pm the temperature on the beach was already more or less comfortable. Once we arrived early, around 5 o’clock – it was very hot. At 9 pm it is already sunset. In Loutraki it is very beautiful - the sun sets behind the mountains.

In general, as we were told, this resort is positioned as inexpensive resort for Greek pensioners (Athens is not very far, about 80 km) and thrifty foreigners. There weren’t very many Russian tourists, mostly Greeks (elderly and families with children), two last days There was a big arrival of Poles. There were a lot of them both in our hotel and on the beach.

What can you buy?

In our part of the resort there was one large supermarket “SPAK”, small grocery stores, several shops with clothes and shoes.

About product prices

There were several cheap outlets with T-shirt sundresses for 5 euros (Vietnamese sellers) and handmade Greek leather sandals and slippers for 15-25 euros. The prices in the supermarket are “tourist”, but practically no different from ours in Russia. Cherries (very large) were taken for about 4 euros per kg, apricots, peaches, nectarines for 3 euros per kg.

Only local oranges were cheap - 0.6 euros per kg (they don’t look very beautiful, they’re kind of scratched, but tasty and sweet). They also took a watermelon (red, but not very sweet) and a melon like our “collective farmer”. Watermelons and melons are not very expensive. They sell inexpensive red salad onions (sweet!). This onion is somewhat similar in taste to a good Crimean flat sweet onion.

We bought olive oil and Greek delight as Greek souvenirs. From alcohol, I took Metaxa and some dry wine (nothing special, but I took it at random). Of the Greek wines described by tourists, we only tried the sweet “Mavrodaphni from Patras” (not bad, but I wouldn’t say super). The rest was taken at random. We drank 1.5 liters of local rose wine in plastic packaging (not bad) and one bottled white wine. We usually dined with wine, snacks from the supermarket (mussels, crabs, tzatziki, sausage, cheese) and fruit on our wonderful balcony, watching nightlife resort and enjoying the view of the fountain.

We didn’t go to restaurants on our own; we didn’t have much time or energy.

About the quality of food and service

We tried various dishes of Greek cuisine on excursions, when our group was taken to lunch in an organized manner. I didn’t like the octopus (like rubber), the other dishes (fish, meat, etc. were not bad). The average cost of lunch for one is 13-15 euros.
