Caucasus amazing place. The legendary peaks Elbrus and Kazbek crown the local ridges, united in mountain systems– this is where the Greater and Lesser Caucasus begin. Looking at the snow-covered rocky slopes supporting the sky, you feel all the power wildlife. The Caucasus is quite harsh mountains, in winter time On the passes here, five meters of snow falls, and in the summer the heat reaches thirty degrees. Numerous hiking routes in the Caucasus are very diverse and at the same time not simple. Mountains and passes attract both experienced tourists and those who are just beginning to explore the wonderful world of tourism. Alpine meadows here alternate with stormy mountain rivers, carrying their foamy streams into real foothill jungles. Stunning colors and amazing silence, this business card these places, and here in the Caucasus, indeed, you can fully enjoy both.

There are several features of hiking in the Caucasus. Firstly, it’s worth talking about the weather. The rains here in summer are rarely prolonged, but they come often, and sometimes it happens every day. A windbreaker is a must when hiking, and a raincoat too. If the sun is shining, it's shining so good, especially at altitude, so don't forget to take sunscreen with you so as not to get too sunburned. Good weather which lasts for a week in a row is rare in the Caucasus, but it does happen. Besides, there are no problems with water in the Caucasus; there are many springs and rivers that we will cross from time to time.

Secondly, I will mention a slight feeling of hunger. We usually carry all the food with us, since on most routes there is no place to buy it, and since you can’t take on much, otherwise you simply won’t go, we have to take into account the amount of food per day compared to the same Crimea. A vicious circle - the pressures in the Caucasus are heavy, you will want to eat a lot, but you won’t be able to take much with you, in general, you will have the opportunity to lose another kilogram.

Our hiking trips in the Caucasus usually last 9 and 12 days. And here you need to be strong in spirit and realize that you will have to go to the end. Because there is simply nowhere to get off here on the route. There are only mountains around. To leave the route, the whole group will have to leave and go to the nearest village, and this is often a couple of days of travel in order to leave there those who want to end the journey prematurely. But I will add that we have a couple of not very difficult routes, especially for beginners - along Tkhachi in Adygea and along the Kodori Gorge in Abkhazia.

Let me remind you that we have routes that go along the border and nature reserves. This imposes its own characteristics on hikes, nature reserves as nature reserves, but you need to obtain permits for some routes in advance from the border guards; for Russians, a pass is issued a month in advance; for citizens of other countries, two months before the hike, we issue a pass; only your data is required from you. Well, that’s all, have a good hike!

Many of us are familiar with the Caucasus in absentia, from old films. Episodes of such masterpieces of Soviet cinema as “12 Chairs”, “White Sun of the Desert”, “Love and Doves”, “The Headless Horseman” were filmed here. Rarely a viewer did not notice the beautiful panoramas that unfolded in the frames of these films. In reality, the region is even brighter and more picturesque. Thousands of fans were convinced of this active rest who went with us on trips to the Caucasus. If you have never been to these places, now is the time to catch up. Our Adventure Club has planned many tours to the Caucasus at very favorable prices.

Caucasus - hikes

The Caucasus is located in the territory between the Black, Caspian and Seas of Azov, on the border of Europe and Asia. It consists of the Main Caucasus Range and the adjacent regions of the North and South Caucasus. North Caucasus- these are flat (Kuban) and foothill (Caucasus) lands, they are entirely part of Russia. South Caucasus - divided between South Ossetia, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia.

The Central Caucasus is the highest and most inaccessible region, heights exceed 5000 m. The graceful lines of finely carved peaks of the Caucasus with a bright firn cover at their feet delight the eye with a wonderful combination of colors. Mount Elbrus (Mingi-Tau) is rightfully considered the pearl of the Caucasus, its height is 5642 m. Elbrus is also the highest peak in Europe. It is a two-headed cone extinct volcano. Elbrus - very popular place among lovers of serious climbing.

Elbrus region is the name of the part of the Greater Caucasus in the tourist community, located from the western approach to Elbrus to the Chegem River basin in the east. Represents a chain highest peaks located on the territory of Kabardino-Balkaria. The Elbrus region is decorated with magnificent gorges at an altitude of 2 thousand or more meters above sea level. Above 3500 m there are glaciers. From 3500 to 2100 m there are a lot of beautiful waterfalls. Many rivers of Kabardino-Balkaria and Karachay-Cherkessia take their sources from glaciers. Hiking in these places is difficult and requires good physical and mental preparation from participants.

The Western Caucasus is a very picturesque region, despite the fact that the mountains here are lower. Calm valleys, lush forests and greenery. The glaciers here practically descend with their tongues into the upper reaches of the valleys. The tops have the outline of sharp teeth and peaks. The average height of the passes is 3000 m. This system combines mountain and forest landscapes with rocky peaks and towers covered with glaciers and snowfields. For example, the hike “Through Lago-Naki to the Sea” is moderately difficult and is best suited for a first acquaintance with the Caucasus Mountains.

Abkhazia - located in the Western Caucasus, is famous for its stunning peaks, vast meadows, wild forests, unique alpine lake Ritsa, Caucasian hospitality. Here is the huge Arabica plateau, which gave the name to one of our hikes in the Caucasus, on which there are many caves. The routes in these parts will be of interest to lovers of new and untrodden paths. They are quite complex, because... involve significant elevation changes, you need to wade through thickets and windbreaks.
