How to get from Netanya to Ben Gurion Airport. Elena Iskhakova's blog. Brief information about the airport

Every traveler, arriving in an unfamiliar country, asks the question “Howget from the airportin town?" Israel has one international Ben Gurion Airport, which has only two terminals: terminal No. 1, terminal No. 3. Most flights arrive at No. 3. We explored several options liketo the cities of Israel.

5 ways to get from Ben Gurion Airport:

1. Electric train (train)(“rakevet” in Hebrew) – runs from terminal No. 3. Tickets can be purchased at the box office or from vending machines for cash or by paying by card. It is better to check the trains in advance; you can do this on the website: https://www.rail.co.il/(Russian language available).

Be sure to keep your ticket until the end of the trip, as you will need it when leaving.

Advantages:

- Cheap. The cost of a train from Ben Gurion Airport to Tel Aviv is 16 shekels ($4), to Jerusalem – 20 shekels ($5), to Netanya – 24.5 shekels ($6), to Haifa – 35.5 shekels ($8 ).

- Fast. But not in all directions. For example, you can get to Tel Aviv in 15 minutes, to Netanya in an hour, to Haifa in 1.5 hours, and to Jerusalem in 2 hours.

Flaws:

– Not in all directions. If you need to get to the South or the extreme North of Israel, then keep in mind that there are no trains to the Dead Sea, Eilat, or the Golan.

- Not every day. On Friday from 14:00 to 19:30 on Saturday trains are closed.

You can check the bus schedule on the website: http://www.egged.co.il/ (there is an English version).

Advantages:

- Cheap. A trip to Tel Aviv will cost about 14 shekels ($3.5).

Flaws:

- Only with a transfer. There are no direct buses from Ben Gurion. You can take bus number 5, then get off at the stopBen Gurion Airport EL Al Junctionand change to another bus.

- For a long time. Getting there by bus takes much longer than by train, transfer or taxi due to traffic jams and stops.

– Not in all directions. By bus you can get to Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and several other nearby cities. But far from it at all.

– Not around the clock. The buses have a schedule, but they definitely don't run at night.

- Not every day. Buses, like trains, rest on Saturdays.

There are days when get there from Ben Gurion airport You can only take a taxi or minibus. This is Friday afternoon and Saturday.

3. Route taxis(“moniyot sherut” in Hebrew) – depart from terminal No. 3.

Advantages:

– 24/7. Minibus taxis operate seven days a week, day and night.

– Relatively inexpensive. Price minibus from the airport to Jerusalem is about 60 shekels ($15), to Haifa - from 75 to 115 shekels ($20-30).

– Not in all directions. Only to Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Haifa, possibly cities along the way, if you agree with the driver.

- Inconvenient. The minibus is usually cramped and there is little space. If you have a lot of luggage, children or pets, traveling for 2-3 hours in a cramped minibus is not best start.

- Additional expenses. For each piece of luggage in a taxi they charge extra money, for a trip on Shabbat - a different tariff, for waiting - another surcharge. Calculate exact taxi cost from Ben Gurion airport Can .

Construction of the airport in Netanya

The whole variety of international flights is served in Israel by four civil airports: Lod - Tel Aviv - Sde Dov, - Ovda and Haifa airport.

As for the airport in Netanya, the issue of its construction was discussed in 2008 at meetings of the European Union countries. The project predetermined the joint use by the air services of Israel and the Palestinian Authority of a new airfield, for which it was planned to allocate a plot of land near the southern outskirts of the city.

The Palestinian territories were supposed to be connected to the airport using an underground tunnel. This initiative was directly related to strengthening trust between the two peoples.

However, the implementation of this idea was opposed by the owners of apartments and cottages living in the vicinity of the planned development. Their fears were related to the fact that their neighborhood could lose that elite status, which he possessed during the negotiations in the EU.

Due to such a negative reaction, the project was frozen, and Netanya did not receive its own international Airport, which could significantly relieve the heavy passenger traffic, and falls on existing air services.

Ben Gurion Airport

Residents and guests of the resort use the nearest airport. Ben Gurion, which is the largest and most significant in Israel. It is separated by a distance of about 14 km, and the closest Israeli city is Lod.

The history of the airport began in the mid-30s of the last century, when it was built and received the original name "Lydda". In the year of Israel's independence (1948), the airport was given a new name - it became known as "Lod Airport".

And finally, 1973 was marked by a new event - the airport was named Ben-Gurion, in memory of the first Prime Minister of Israel, David Ben-Gurion. In 2004, the technically unprecedented Terminal 3 began operating, which today is the main air gates Israel.

Israeli air carriers are based on Ben-Gurion territory:

  • Israir
  • Arkia

Airport services are concentrated on highway number 1, leading from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Ground passenger transport presented in Ben-Gurion by buses from Dan and Egged companies. Owners of personal vehicles who want to park their cars can use multi-tiered parking lots.

There is a taxi service at the airport and railway transport. Passengers of Russian flights arriving at Ben Gurion should note that there is a target time difference of 1 hour between Russia and Israel. So, Moscow time 9 o'clock in the morning will correspond to 8 o'clock in Tel Aviv.

How to get to the airport

Ben Gurion Airport can be reached by bus number 930, which runs from Netanya. In this case, the travel time will be 1 hour, and the ticket price will be 25 shekels. You should use a special compartment to place your luggage, and transportation does not require additional payment.

Tourists can get to Netanya and back using a transfer, the services of which are usually included in the price of the tour package. A taxi will cover the distance between the airport and Netanya in 35-45 minutes, however, the services of such transport are not cheap - 230-260 shekels.

Types of transport

One of the most optimal transport in terms of time and in terms of cost savings is the electric train, which stops at railway station, in terminal number 3, and a ticket costs about 26 shekels. In Tel Aviv, at the Ha'Agana station, you should change to a train bound for Netanya, which stops on the opposite side of the platform. If you wish, you can board the train heading to Netanya at the Ha-Universita station.

Netanya railway station and city neighborhoods are connected by bus route No. 5, and the fare, regardless of the distance of the trip, is 5 shekels 80 agorot.

To exchange dollars or other currencies into shekels, you can use exchange offices in Ben-Gurion territory, however, it is not recommended to change large sums of money, since they do not have a favorable exchange rate at the airport. Details and schedules can be found on the website (also in the Russian version) dedicated to Israeli railway transport.

The distance between the domestic and international terminals of Ben Gurion Airport is approximately 4 km, with public transport stops located in close proximity to the international terminal. The airport service has introduced special inter-terminal bus services, the schedule of which is linked to the arrival of flights.

Haifa Airport is located in close proximity to seaport, and the distance from the airport to the city center, which can be reached by bus route No. 58. The airport serves domestic Israeli flights to the resort, as well as several international charter flights.

In Eilat, flights are served directly within the city limits. The compact terminal is separated from central hotels, shopping centers and resort attractions by a distance of less than 1 kilometer, which can be easily covered in 1-5 minutes on foot. It is planned to move the international terminal outside the city limits, north of Eilat, to the territory of the Uvda airbase, which will cease to exist with the introduction of the new Eilat airport.

Air travel takes approximately 5 hours, including flights and bus travel.

Construction of which began in 1949, first received fires from European countries in 1980.

The air journey takes only 5 and a half hours, but is worth it to visit this beautiful city.

Every traveler, arriving in an unfamiliar country, asks the question “How to get from the airport to the city?” There is one Ben Gurion International Airport in Israel, which has only two terminals: Terminal No. 1, Terminal No. 3. 4. Taxi (“monit” in Hebrew) is an excellent option, directly from Terminal 3.

Advantages:

- 24/7. The taxi service does not rest on Saturdays, it works every day and around the clock.

- Comfortable. High class cars, equipped with air conditioning. They pick you up from the airport and take you to your door.

- Additional expenses. For each piece of luggage in a taxi they charge extra money, for a trip on Shabbat - a different tariff, for waiting - another surcharge. You can calculate the exact cost of a taxi from Ben Gurion Airport.

5. Transfer - personal driver with a car. Most the best option for traveling at night, on Friday and Saturday. We offer transfers from Ben Gurion Airport with Israel Today.

Advantages:

- It's safe. Russian-speaking female drivers with extensive driving experience.

- There is no chance of getting lost. You meet the driver in advance and when you arrive, a car is already waiting for you. You leave the airport while the rest of the passengers on your flight are queuing for a taxi.

- Cheaper than a taxi. The cost of a transfer to Tel Aviv is from 150 shekels (from 35 dollars).

- 24/7. The transfer service operates 24 hours a day, every day.

- Fast. If there are no traffic jams, it will be quite fast. To Tel Aviv - 25 minutes, to Jerusalem - 50 minutes, to Haifa - 1.5 hours.

- You are always in touch. There is in the car free WI-FI, connection via the driver's phone.

- Fix price. The price quoted to you does not change and includes everything: waiting, luggage space, night rate, Shabbat rate.

— Different calculation options. Payment is possible in cash and by check, in dollars, euros, and shekels.

Flaws:

— Small selection of cars. A standard Chevrolet Aveo car is offered for transfer.

— More expensive than public transport. Still, a transfer is a transfer. And it is definitely more expensive than by train, bus or minibus.

Today we will tell you how to get from Ben Gurion Airport to the center of Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Haifa more comfortably and quickly and in the opposite direction. When planning your trip to Tel Aviv, I advise you to follow these recommendations:

  • If you plan to travel in Israel by public transport, save the website address on your phone or laptop/tablet railways Israel Rail.co.il, Israeli bus company Egged.co.il, which provides urban and intercity transportation;
  • If you prefer to travel by taxi, so as not to run into arrogant local taxi drivers at the airport who demand an additional payment for each bridge;
  • Look at Google Maps the exact location of your hotel and write down its address in Hebrew (this may be useful to you later in a taxi or if you suddenly get lost in Tel Aviv or another destination);
  • If possible, download a map of Tel Aviv/Jerusalem/Haifa.

Brief information about the airport

Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv(IATA code: TLV; ICAO code: LLBG)– Israel's largest international airport, located in Tel Aviv. The airport is a hub for the largest Israeli companies: El Al, Israir Airlines, Arkia Israel Airlines and Sun D'Or Airlines. The airport's passenger turnover in 2019 amounted to 23 million people per year. The airport is located 19 km southeast of Tel Aviv. Ben Gurion Airport is one of the top five airports in the Middle East. In addition to Ben Gurion Airport, there is another airport north of Tel Aviv - Sde-Dov, which serves domestic airlines in the following directions: Eilat, Haifa, Kiryat Shmona. The distance between these airports is 21 km.

Ben Gurion Airport has 2 terminals: Terminal 1 and Terminal 3.

  • Terminal 1 serves some flights low cost airlines and low-cost airlines: Vueling, easyJet, Wizz Air.
  • Terminal 3 serves most flights, including flights to Russia and Ukraine. For example, this is where airline planes arrive: Lufthansa (Frankfurt), Alitalia (Rome), Arkia (Munich), Delta (New York), Czech Airlines(Prague), easyJet (Paris, Berlin, London), Turkish Airlines (Istanbul), Aeroflot (Moscow), Pegasus (Istanbul), Bucharest (All airlines), UIA (Kyiv).
  • Regular flights to Tel Aviv from Russia are operated by Aeroflot from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Rostov-on-Don, as well as by the national air carrier El Al from Moscow, Nordavia from Sochi. The cost of air tickets Moscow-Tel Aviv starts from 52 one way.
  • El Al airline flies from Ukraine, from Kyiv to Tel Aviv. Ukrainian Airlines planes fly from Dnepropetrovsk, Kyiv, Odessa. During the season, the number of flights increases and flights from other cities appear.

In close proximity to the airport there is the Sadot Hotel, where you can spend the night if necessary. The official currency of Israel is Israeli shekels(NIS). On this moment(2018) 1 shekel is equal to 16.7 rubles or 0.29 US dollars. Currency exchange at the airport is highly discouraged due to the poor exchange rate. Train tickets can be purchased by paying with a card at a ticket machine. Taxis can be ordered in advance and paid for online. You can exchange money later in Tel Aviv itself.

I have grouped the distance from Ben Gurion Airport to cities and resorts in Israel in a table. And below I posted a map of Israel in Russian with cities and resorts.

From Ben Gurion Airport to Tel Aviv Center by Train

Trains are rightfully considered the most comfortable public transport in Israel. In terms of comfort they correspond to trains Western Europe: All trains have a toilet, phone/laptop chargers and you can reserve a specific seat. Due to the heavy traffic on the roads in Israel, all more people prefers rail transport to buses and cars.

The train schedule is available on the Israeli Railways website, the link to which I provided above. The railway station is located in Terminal 3 of the airport on the lowest level S (under the arrivals area). If you are departing from Terminal 1 and arrived at the airport by train, then to travel to Terminal 1 you can use the free shuttle bus No. 5, which runs between the airport terminals.

By train from the airport you can get to 4 stops in the center of Tel Aviv: Tel Aviv HaShalom, Tel Aviv-HaHagana, Tel Aviv Center – Savidor, Tel Aviv – University. Tel Aviv-HaHaganathis is the central railway station. Travel time to Tel Aviv-HaHagana station from the airport is 12 minutes. The cost of a train ticket to any of the four stations in the center of Tel Aviv is 16 shekels ($4.1).

Train tickets can be purchased at the ticket office or vending machine in the arrivals hall, but allow extra time for this as there are queues at the ticket offices and vending machines. The ticket must be kept for the entire trip, because... Exit from the train is only possible with tickets. Trains run from 05:16 to 23:20 every 30 minutes from Monday to Friday lunchtime. From Friday afternoon until Saturday evening on Shabbat, transport in Israel and Tel Aviv in particular does not work at all, including trains.

By train you can change to central station Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, Haifa, Netanya, Bat Yam and other Israeli cities. If your hotel is located in the center of Tel Aviv, near HaYarkon Street or Shaul Hamelech Boulevard, then you will need to get to the Tel Aviv-Savidor Center train station. Travel time is 20 minutes without transfers. Next to the Tel Aviv-Savidor Cente train station is the Arlozorov bus station, from where central bus station Tel Aviv, intercity buses depart.

From Ben Gurion Airport to Tel Aviv city center by bus

Public transport parking lots at the airport are located on the second floor next to exits from the arrival halls 21 and 23. It is from here that departures depart every 15 minutes from 05:00 to 22:00 free shuttle bus No. 5 Egged to the Airport City stop, where you can transfer to regular city services to Tel Aviv city center: 249, 423, 930, 943, 947 and 950. Please note that these bus routes do not stop at the airport itself called Ben Gurion Airport.

Payment for travel on city routes is made directly to the driver or at the ticket office at the bus stop. Buses stop at Tel Aviv Central Bus Station. I have listed the bus routes below.

  • Bus No. 249: Petah Tikva – Rehovot;
  • Bus number 423: Petah Tikva - Jerusalem;
  • Bus number 930: Netanya - Jerusalem;
  • Bus number 943: Hadera - Jerusalem;
  • Bus number 947: Haifa – Jerusalem via Netanya;
  • Bus number 950: Jerusalem – Netanya.

Feature intercity buses in Israel is that when they enter cities along their route, they become city buses that stop at every stop, so travel time to the center can increase significantly. Please note that during Shabbat there are no buses or minibuses from the airport.

From Ben Gurion Airport to Jerusalem

You can get from Ben Gurion Airport to Jerusalem in the following ways:

  • Buses No. 947 and No. 950 from a stop at Airport City. Buses run every day from 06:30 to 21:00, except Saturdays. On Thursdays, buses run until 16:00. The cost of a one-way ticket is 24 shekels ($6.2). The duration of the trip is about 2 hours.
  • Bus number 485. Since 2017, this route has operated between Ben Gurion Airport and Jerusalem 24 hours a day, 6 days a week (except Shabbat). The fare is 16 shekels ($4.5) one way. A starting point route - Binyane ha uma opposite the Central Bus Station in Jerusalem and next to the International Convention Center, the final route is terminals 1 and 3 of Ben Gurion Airport. From the Central Bus Station in Jerusalem, buses No. 1 and No. 3 depart to the Western Wall and the Old City. The travel time will be about 40 minutes, the fare will be 5.9 shekels ($1.65).
  • Train + bus. The first train from Ben Gurion Airport leaves at 05:35, the last at 19:35. You will need to get to the Tel Aviv Center – Savidor train station, and then transfer to bus number 480 to Jerusalem. This bus leaves every 10 minutes. Travel time is 1.5 hours.
  • Train. This option is not entirely convenient, since the Jerusalem Malha train station is located far from the city center. In addition, you will need to make a transfer in the center of Tel Aviv - at the Tel Aviv-HaHagana train station. Travel time is 1 hour 40 minutes. Ticket price: 23.5 shekels ($6).
  • Shared taxis are shared. Without a doubt, this is one of the most convenient ways to get to Jerusalem. Sherut is a minibus designed for 10 passengers. The trip will take you about 1-2 hours, depending on the number of passengers (since everyone will need to be transported to hotels). Ticket price: 50-70 shekels ($13 - 18). The advantage of sherut is that it works on holidays and on Shabbat - on Saturdays. Look for minibuses near gate 01-03, floor G (arrivals floor).

From Ben Gurion Airport to Haifa

The most convenient way to get to Haifa from Ben Gurion Airport is by train if you arrive not on a Friday or Saturday afternoon. On Shabbat, it will be most convenient to take a taxi or shuttle.

  • Train. You will need to get to the Haifa – Hof HaKarmel railway station, from where you can take a bus to your hotel or to the Haifa Merkaz-Hashmona (Haifa Central) railway station, from where the metro runs. Travel time is 1.5 hours. Ticket price: 41.5 shekels ($10.6).
  • Bus number 947. The bus leaves from a stop in Airport City. I don’t recommend using it to get to Haifa, because... the trip lasts more than two hours and you have to make a transfer, and especially in the heat it is very uncomfortable.
  • Shared taxis are shared. Fast, convenient, comfortable. Sherut will pick you up directly from the airport, open 24 hours a day. A small downside is that the sherut driver will have to wait until there are enough passengers on board. Depending on the location of your hotel in Haifa, you will pay for the trip from 80 to 120 shekels ($20.7 - 31). Look for minibuses near gate 01-03, floor G (arrivals floor).

From Ben Gurion Airport to Sde Dov Airport

You can get from one airport to another by train. Name final stop– Sde Dov Airport – spelled Sderot. Travel time by train is 1 hour 48 minutes. There is one transfer - at the Tel Aviv-HaHagana train station. Ticket price is 27 shekels ($7).

Car rent

The best alternative to public transport in Israel is to rent a car. You can choose a car on the website, where prices from all rental companies are compared. With the exception of busy areas in the center of Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, driving on Israeli roads is pleasant and comfortable. By car you can independently reach the most remote corners of the country. Most rental companies in Israel do not provide travel insurance for areas in the West Bank that are under Palestinian control. Therefore, if you are planning a trip to these places, additional insurance is required.

If you don’t want to make your own route through a country unfamiliar to you, then you can book online one of the interesting custom excursions conducted by local guides, be it a tour of Jerusalem (book a tour), a shopping tour in Israeli outlets, or an exciting trip around Dead Sea(book a tour). Excursions are offered both group and individual, taking into account your wishes for every taste and budget. In my opinion, this is an ideal option if you do not have the time to plan a route yourself.

Taxi from Tel Aviv Ben Gurion Airport

Taxi is, without a doubt, the most expensive transport in Israel. Due to the unfavorable exchange rate at the airport, it is not profitable to take a taxi at the airport and pay for it in shekels, so it is much more convenient to order a taxi in advance on the Internet and pay for it online. The taxi rank is located at the exit from the arrivals terminal.

The most common taxis in Israel are Mercedes and Volkswagen. If you take a taxi at the airport, write it in advance and without errors name of your destination and his address, of course in Hebrew. Taxis must have a meter included, although for long-distance trips the price may be fixed. Do not agree to a fixed price when traveling a short distance, as this will not be profitable for you. Never pay for travel in dollars or euros., otherwise they will definitely charge you at an unfavorable rate. At the end of the trip, ask the driver for a receipt.

If you take a taxi at Tel Aviv airport, please note that taxi stands at the airport are located on 2 floors - on the third floor (near the arrivals hall) and on the second floor. Moreover, on the third floor you will be asked for a larger amount than on the second!

Israeli taxis operate a system of surcharges for travel in the following cases:

  • During Shabbat;
  • When traveling with more than 2 people, the taxi driver may ask for an additional 4.9 shekels ($1.3) for each additional passenger;
  • 25% surcharge for trips at night from 21:00 to 05:30, as well as on Fridays and holidays, starting from 16:00;
  • When traveling from Ben Gurion Airport, 5 shekels ($1.3) are added to the fare, and 4 shekels ($1.1) for each suitcase;
  • When driving on expressway No. 6 you will pay additional fee 11 shekels ($2.8);
  • When ordering a taxi by phone, an additional fee of 5.2 shekels ($1.4) is charged;
  • For every hour the taxi is idle, 94 shekels ($24) are paid.

To avoid all these unpleasant surcharges, I recommend that you order a taxi transfer in advance via the Internet from a Russian company. This is the only way you will save time and money and get to your destination comfortably, because local taxi drivers are very arrogant and try to deceive tourists.

How to get from Tel Aviv city center to Ben Gurion Airport

When traveling in the opposite direction, I recommend that you leave for the airport in advance, because... Israeli airports have a very serious screening system for departing passengers. Therefore, I advise you to leave for Ben Gurion Airport from the center of Tel Aviv at least 4-5 hours before departure.

  • If you are traveling to the airport from the center of Tel Aviv by train, then you need to get to the nearest railway station, which I listed in the post, and take the train to Ben Gurion Airport station. When traveling to Ben Gurion by bus, you need to get to the Tel Aviv central bus station and take one of the intercity buses: No. 249, 423, 930, 943, 947 or 950. When you get to the Airport City stop, change to the free shuttle No. 5 to the airport.
  • If you need to get to Ben Gurion Airport from Jerusalem, then you can choose from the following types of public transport: buses No. 947 and No. 950, departing from the Jerusalem central bus station HaMerkazit Shel Yerushalayim to the Airport City stop, after which you will need to transfer to the free shuttle No. 5 to the airport; train with railway station Jerusalem Malha to Ben Gurion Airport with a transfer at Tel Aviv-HaHagana station.
  • When traveling to Ben Gurion Airport from Haifa You can choose between bus number 947, which departs from Haifa's Bat Galim central bus station and arrives at the Airport City stop, after which you will need to transfer to the free shuttle number 5 to the airport, or by train from Haifa - Hof HaKarmel or Haifa train stations Merkaz-Hashmona (Haifa Central). The train from Haifa to Ben Gurion Airport is direct.

The most comfortable way to travel is by taxi or shared sherut taxi. When planning a trip to Israel, it is also worth considering that Sunday is the first working day here. In the morning on the roads in major cities traffic jams form and public transport— trains and buses — packed with soldiers and students.

Today, in addition to the military, Israel has three civilian airports with international status: Ben Gurion and Sde Dov in Tel Aviv, Haifa Airport and Ovda Airport in Eilat.

Netanya could also have its own airport with international status. Discussions on this matter took place five years ago in the European Union. It was assumed that the new airfield would be shared between Israel and the Palestinian Authority. The airport was supposed to be built south of Netanya, it was supposed to connect it with the Palestinian territories underground tunnel, the entire initiative was seen as a confidence-building measure.

But the idea encountered fierce resistance from apartment owners in the area where the airport was supposed to be built. They were afraid that such a neighborhood would turn their elite place into a slum. Gradually, the idea faded away, and the international airport was never included in the list.
