Konzhakovsky Stone. Northern Urals. How to get to the Konzhakovsky Stone by car, GPS coordinates

The Konzhakov stone, belonging to the Northern Urals, is the most high mountain V Sverdlovsk region. Its peak reaches 1569 meters. Every year this peak is visited by thousands of tourists from all over the country and abroad. No wonder - the landscapes here are truly magnificent. Most often, tourists call the mountain briefly and in their own way - Konjak.

origin of name

For the first time, the Konzhakovsky stone is mentioned in sources of the eighteenth century along with the Konzhakovka River, which is a tributary of the Lobva River. As E.K. Hoffman, the leader of the North Ural expedition sent by the Russian Geographical Society, wrote, the mountain owes its name to Vogul Kozhnakov, who set up a yurt at the foot of the mountain and lived in it, hunting.

Description of the mountain

The Konzhakovsky stone is a large mountain range with several peaks. First of all, this is, in fact, the Konzhakov stone. The next one is Tylaysky Stone with a height of 1471 meters, then Ostray Kosva - 1403 meters, Serebryansky Stone - 1305 meters, Northern Job - 1263 meters and, finally, Trapezium - 1253 meters.

Most of the slopes are covered with kurumniks of varying sizes. The most common rocks are gabbro, pyroxenite and dunite. Zoning is clearly visible here - the forest is replaced by forest-tundra, and the peaks are covered with mountain tundra. On the slopes of the mountain in the forest zone it grows a large number of cedars You should be careful here - in some places you can stumble upon magnetic anomalies, which cause a lot of trouble for tourists who navigate using compasses.

The weather here, as most often happens in the mountains, is quite changeable. Moreover, sunny, windless weather is very rare. But it rains on the slopes almost every day. It is no coincidence that a joke is popular among local tourists: if Konjak is visible, it means it will rain. And if you can’t see it, it means it’s already raining.

During the winter the slopes become covered big amount snow. In some places it lies all summer.

The climb to the top point of the Konzhakovsky stone is difficult and long. Unprepared people, having climbed to the top, then complain of pain in their legs for several days. Every step it seems that the top is already very close. But, having risen several tens of meters, the tourist is again convinced that the goal of the journey is still far away. On highest point Konjak has a tripod made of metal profile with a Russian flag. Also left underneath were various pennants, a 24kg weight with a broken handle, and a number of other memorabilia. Once upon a time, a sewer manhole cover lay here, causing considerable surprise among tourists.

Having climbed to the top of Konjac, the most persistent mountain lovers are rewarded with the splendor of the unfolding panorama. If the weather cooperates and you do not encounter rain or clouds, then the view will be remembered for a lifetime. The cliffs of the Silver Stone look especially elegant. The cone of the Kosvinsky stone makes an indelible impression on many. There are rumors that it is in the depths of this rock mass that there is a mysterious bunker built by the military. Some even claim that it is here that the control center of the Strategic Missile Forces of the Perimeter system is located, thanks to which Russia can unleash its entire nuclear potential on any point in the world. The basis for these assumptions are the special properties of the rocks that make up the Kosvinsky stone.

Although the Konzhak Stone is truly unique and symbolic (it is here that the highest point of the Sverdlovsk region is located), it has never been given the status of a natural monument.

Job's failure

After visiting Konjak, you should definitely visit Job’s Gap – its coordinates: N 59º 38.104´ E 059º 10.358´. Here the plateau ends abruptly on the eastern side.

It is the Job gap that is one of the few glacial cirques preserved in these parts. The failure has a depth of 300 meters with an average slope of 35 degrees. Rocks of different colors are visible on the surface (the light shade of some of them creates the illusion of being illuminated by the sun). In some places you can see surprisingly smooth walls - as if polished.

The Poludnevaya River flows along the bottom of the canyon. Here, even in the hottest summer, the ice and snow do not completely melt. Small waterfalls falling from cliffs are formed by streams that flow into the hole. Although the name of the canyon is quite formidable, it is quite possible to go down into it - the slopes are not too steep. But in winter it is much more dangerous here - you should go down on foot or on skis very carefully. An undetected failure can turn into a tragedy. There were many precedents.

Alas, today a serious threat hangs over this beauty. If the residents of the Urals and tourists from all over Russia do not show their readiness to defend Konjak, then a quarry will appear in its place. The fact is that the Dunites of the Middle Urals enterprise can begin mining dunites, and in the open pit. Initially, work was supposed to begin in 2014. And the permit for their work was signed back in 2007. True, the general public learned about this only recently. Experts estimate the reserves of the Iovskoye deposit at 20 million tons of dunite. Such deposits are enough for the field to operate for up to 30 years.

Of course, such plans caused a storm of indignation among the public. Primarily among environmentalists and tourists. Today, industrialists have not started development, but can start it at any time.

Every year on the first Saturday of July, a large number of people gather here. It is on this day that the Konjak mountain marathon is held. It was first held back in 1996. Participants come here not only from all over the Sverdlovsk region and Russia - there are many amateurs here mountain sports and from abroad.

Songs are written about Konjac, paintings are painted, and poems are written. And the most popular place where tourists stop is called the Glade of Artists.

How to get to Konjak?

The best way to get to the Konzhak Stone is by car. First, drive along the Serov highway from Yekaterinburg. Before reaching Serovoy, turn to Severouralsk, and then to Karpinsk. After passing it, you will find yourself on a dirt road - along it you can get to Kytlym. The roads here are bad, so you should drive carefully. The distance from Karpinsk to Konzhak is small - only 50 km. But due to bad roads, the journey takes up to 2 hours. In general, the distance from Yekaterinburg to the foothills of Konzhak is about 450 kilometers.

Konzhakovsky Stone is the most high mountain Sverdlovsk region. Height – 1569 meters. Refers to the Northern Urals. Every year thousands of tourists from all over the Urals (and not only) come here. The landscapes here are truly magnificent! Tourists usually call the mountain briefly and simply – Konjak.

Origin of the name Konzhakov Stone

Together with the Konzhakovka River (a tributary of the Lobva River), the mountain is mentioned in sources of the 18th century. Head of the Russian North Ural Expedition Geographical Society E.K. Hoffman, who visited the peak on July 3, 1853, wrote that the mountain was named after Vogul Konzhakov, “who at the foot of it had his own yurt and hunted on it.”

Description of Mount Konzhakovsky Stone

Konzhakovsky Kamen is a large mountain range consisting of several peaks: Konzhakovsky Kamen (1569 m), Trapezium (1253 m), South Job (Duparkov Kamen) (1311 m), Northern Job (1263 m), Tylaysky Kamen (1471 m) , Ostraya Kosva (1403 m), Serebryansky Kamen (1305 m) and others.

The slopes are covered with kurumniks of various sizes. Main rocks: pyroxenites, dunites and gabbro. The altitudinal zonation is clearly visible here: forests give way to forest-tundra, and then to mountain tundra. There are many cedars growing in the forests on the slopes. By the way, in some places on the Konzhakovsky Stone there are magnetic anomalies that can throw off tourists who are guided by a compass.

The weather on Konzhakovsky Kamen, as in any mountains, is changeable. It’s not easy to catch good, sunny weather here. It rains almost every day. It is not without reason that a comic sign appeared: if Konjak is visible, it will rain, if it is not visible, it means it is already falling.

In winter, a lot of snow falls on the mountains. In some places it does not melt all summer.

In the 1720-40s, four mines with the general name Konzhakovsky worked on the slopes of the Konzhakovsky Stone. The mined copper ore was sent to the Lyalinsky copper smelter.

The climb to the top of the Konzhakovsky Stone is long and quite difficult. Unprepared people then have pain in their legs for several days. It seems that this is already the top. But, having risen, more and more new ascents open up. The highest point of Konjac with an altitude of 1569 meters is located on top of small cliffs.

There is a metal tripod with a Russian flag installed here; underneath it are various pennants, a weight with a broken handle weighing 24 kg and other artifacts. Previously, there was also a sewer hatch here, which surprised tourists.

Participants of the project "Uraloved" on the top of Konjak

Stunning panoramas open from the top and slopes of Konjac. If you're lucky with the weather, you'll remember them for a long time! Everywhere you look there are mountains all around. The rocky teeth of Serebryansky Kamen and the cone of Kosvinsky Kamen are especially beautiful. By the way, in the depths Kosvinsky Stone The military has built a mysterious bunker. According to some information, there is a combat control center for the Strategic Missile Forces of the Perimeter system, from where Russia can launch a nuclear strike on the world. Its location here is due to the special properties of the rocks that make up the Kosvinsky Kamen.

Despite its uniqueness and symbolism (still the highest point in the region), Konzhakovsky Stone does not have the status of a natural monument.

The path to the top of Konjac partially goes along the edge Job plateau. It is a large, partially swampy clearing at an altitude of 1100-1200 meters, surrounded by rocky slopes.

Geologists have done good work here in the past. What was left of them was a lot of iron rubbish (pipes, trolleys, drill parts, remains of mechanisms, etc.), pits and a small shallow lake (Lake Geologists, height 1125 m). It’s better not to be here during a thunderstorm - the pieces of iron lying around here attract lightning well.

Lake Geologists

While in Konjac, it’s worth going to Job's Gap (Job's Abyss). The plateau here abruptly ends to the east.

GPS coordinates of the Job Failure: N 59º 38.104´ E 059º 10.358´.

The Job gap is one of the few glacial cirques preserved in the Northern Urals. The depth of the hole is 300 meters, the average steepness of the slopes is 35 degrees. Multi-colored rocks come to the surface (some of them, due to their light shade, create the illusion that the sun is shining on them). In some places the walls of the hole are completely smooth, as if polished.

Below, in the canyon, the Poludnevaya river flows. Even in summer there is snow and ice in places. Streams flowing into the hole form small waterfalls. Despite the menacing name, it is quite possible to go down to the bottom of the hole. The slopes are not that steep. It is much more dangerous in winter, when, having gaped or not noticing a failure in bad weather, you can slide down on skis. Then a tragedy can happen. They say that such cases have already happened.

Soon this beauty will be destroyed forever, and a quarry will appear here. In 2018, the Dunites of the Middle Urals enterprise began open-pit mining of dunites. The reserves of the Iovskoye deposit are estimated at 20 million tons of dunite. This should be enough for 30 years.

Traces of the former presence of geologists on the Job Plateau

Miners believe that the quarry on the Job Plateau brings only benefits to tourists. Well, they don’t care about nature.

“Tourists will be able to receive medical assistance in case of injury. In addition to the development of the deposit, there will also be a road to the quarry. And the road is prospects for development. Now Konjak is visited by a handful of people, a negligible number of tourists. When the road appears, even people with disabilities“Dunitov director Nikolai Kuzmin told Vecherniye Vedomosti.

Every year on the first Saturday of July, Konjac is very crowded. Since 1996, the Konjac mountain marathon has been held here. It attracts participants from all over the Urals, Russia and even from other countries.

For many, Konjac is a source of inspiration. Songs are written about it, paintings are painted here. It is not for nothing that the favorite stopping place for tourists is called the Glade of Artists.

The surroundings of the Konzhakovsky Stone are also interesting. Everywhere you look there are mountains all around that you can walk on and on.

Expedition E.K. Hoffmann on the Konzhakovsky Stone

In the summer of 1853, the Konzhakovsky Stone was visited by the expedition of the famous geologist E.K. Hoffman, who worked on the creation of a geological map of the Urals. A report on this was published in the Mining Journal, vol. 5, 1865

“Since none of the guides knew further the road to the Konzhakovsky stone and since the peaks of the mountains seen had a different shape than what they appeared from Bogoslovsk, we decided to climb some hill in order to get an overview from its top and thus navigate...

The entire ridge and the small peak of the Konzhakovsky stone still lay to the west of us. The Konzhakov stone is the name given to a whole series of mountains stretching from SO to NW. The highest hill lies in the middle, rising above the neighboring hills, which adjoin it with jagged ribs from SO and NW...

The entire path lay through entire fields of scree, which tired us very much... Since we had to reach the main hill very late, and since it lies above the border of trees that could serve us as fuel, we decided 5 or 6 versts from this peak pitch a tent directly at the northern border of the forest...

At 12 ½ o'clock we reached the main peak and erected a cross on it, which was cut down by one of the guides at the border of the forest and brought here... Apart from several wild deer, which immediately disappeared upon our approach, we did not see any living creature here, with the exception of perhaps annoying flies that followed us, perhaps from a halt.”

How to get to the Konzhakovsky Stone (Konzhak)?

To get to the highest point of the Sverdlovsk region - Konzhakovsky Kamen, you need to drive a car from Yekaterinburg along the Serov highway, turn before Serov to Severouralsk, then turn to Karpinsk (see map below). Having passed through the city of Karpinsk, you find yourself on the road to Kytlym. In the past there was a bad dirt road here, but an asphalt road was recently built. About 50 km from Karpinsk there is a recreation center “Konzhakovsky Kamen”, where you can leave your car and continue on foot along the “marathon”. Distance from Yekaterinburg – 445 km.

You can get here by public transport: by bus from Yekaterinburg to Karpinsk, then to the Karpinsk - Kytlym bus (but it runs rarely, not every day).

Usually you climb to Konzhakovsky Stone along the so-called “marathon” - along the route of the Konzhak mountain marathon. It starts from highway Karpinsk - Kytlym, not reaching 5 km to the village of Kytlym.

GPS coordinates of the start of the marathon: N 59º 31.974´ E 059º 15.987´. It is marked along its entire length, and there are also signs reporting kilometers.

From the start of the “marathon” to the Artists’ Glade on the banks of the Konzhakovka River is 14 km (it is most convenient to set up a camp there and climb further lightly), and to the top – 21 km. The distance to the top, leisurely, takes seven hours. Almost the entire path is uphill, and after the Artists' Glade it is also along kurumniks.

GPS coordinates of the top of the Konzhakovsky Stone: N 59º 37.921´ E 059º 08.089´ (or 59.632017º, 59.134817º).

Since 2017, only a few people have been able to walk to Konzhakovsky and Serebryansky Stones. Now the majority prefers to drive their cars to Konjak along the technological road built by Kuzmin to destroy the Job Plateau in order to mine dunites. From here to the top there is nothing left. The flow of tourists has increased significantly, and at the same time, lovers of drinking in nature and garbage have appeared.

When traveling around the Urals, take care of nature! Happy travels!

One of highest peaks Ural mountains and the highest point of the Sverdlovsk region is the Konzhakovsky stone (1569 m). The conventional border of the Middle and Northern Urals runs along the Konzhak massif. At the same time, Konjak is a unique peak of the Stone Belt in terms of accessibility. Firstly, due to the fact that to the foot mountain range can be reached by car. Secondly, because it is impossible to get lost on the way up the mountain. From the foot to the very top, red flags and distance markers mark the 21 km long route. There and back it turns out to be a marathon distance. Every year in July, since 1996, the international mountain marathon "Konjac" has been held there. It ranks first in the ranking of Russian marathons and is the most popular in Russia, attracting more than a thousand participants from all over the world. So the path is well-trodden and Konjac is within the reach of everyone.

The road to Kytlym is a village at the foot of Konjak. Ahead lies the second highest mountain in the area, widely known in the narrow circles of Kosva.

One of the peaks on the road to Kytlym, there are many of them around the village. That’s why it got this name - translated from Mansi, Kytlym means “cauldron”.

In some places the clouds are trying to crawl between the peaks...

Or they just go down from Kosva

From the village they open great views to the mountains. In some places they are spoiled by the presence of humans. Especially if there are a lot of them, they are green and are up to something.

Then Spetsstroy of Russia comes to their aid...

And the landscape acquires characteristic features that correspond to the little green men’s idea of beauty.

However, let's not talk about the terrible things. Having reached Kytlym, we began preparing to conquer Konjak in a special car. Since it had not started since spring, it was necessary to install a battery on it, check the spark plugs and oil level, and add gasoline. After which the GAZ-66 started up)

Preparing for the start.

After a couple of hours. Halfway to the top.

We leave the car with the driver somewhere 7 kilometers from the top. Continue on foot. View from the artists' clearing - favorite place halts during ascent.

About a kilometer later. We climbed this slope, covered with dwarf forest.

Even higher and we are above the clouds. Kosva is visible.

Upon reaching the plateau, we are greeted by a memorial sign dedicated to the 300th anniversary of metallurgy in the Urals.

A look back. Yovskoe plateau. A couple of kilometers along it and again up the mountain. In the center you can see a den of flags marking the marathon course.

The peak of South Yov is ahead.

And this is North Yow. The stones on the slopes are covered with patterns of green moss.

And again a steep climb up the mountain. View towards Krasnoturinsk and Karpinsk.

At this altitude, passing clouds leave a layer of snow on the rocks. Mainly on the one hand...

The vegetation is also covered with snow, very beautifully, as if frozen.

Marathon flags at this altitude take on a completely unusual appearance)

In the vicinity of Kytlym, as far as I know, there are only two bases where you can stay overnight. This is where we were last year. Suitable for grated rolls with a minimum of amenities. And the Konzhakovsky Stone base, where we came this time. I won’t say that the reason for the change was a lack of comfort, but rather a desire to diversify leisure time. Location of the base on the map

This base turned out to be much more decent and comfortable. Separate one and two storey huts. Wooden houses with brick stoves. Ready chopped firewood. Electricity without time limits. The toilet, however, is still on the street, but it’s even more interesting. Cars, though they don’t enter the base itself, remain outside the gates, but these are minor things. From the connection he takes Motive and Megaphone. Beeline definitely doesn’t pick up, I can’t say anything about MTS. Well, the connection, of course, is so-so.

For a day in such a house we paid 5,000 rubles. There were five of us, four adults and a seven-year-old child. No one froze or got sick.

Everything inside is also colorful and rustic. There is even the skin of either a small bear cub or a wolverine hanging. I would still bet on the bear, but the opinions of those present were divided.

In general, the impressions are much more pleasant than last year. And the place is much more picturesque, there are mountains around on all sides. In the evening, a gentle orange color colors the ridges on one side.

In the morning, pink-violet - different.

At night Moonlight so bright that you can see everything without a flashlight. And if you move literally 200 meters from the base, you can observe the Milky Way with the naked eye. At first I didn’t believe my companions, but later I became convinced myself. And how many stars are in the sky! I haven't seen such abundance for a long time.

Yes, this time the quality of the photos was disappointing; I took some on my phone, and some on a quickly freezing camera. In the morning it was -40, so you couldn’t take much pictures, it was quick and warm. Even the tripod's grease at the head is so frozen that it will have to be disassembled and re-lubricated. This, by the way, is a terrible drawback of ball heads. The old cheap tripod coped with the task in such conditions with a bang. Tested last year.

Taught by experience, we added firewood to the stove all night at different intervals. And we warmed up the car every hour and a half for ten minutes so that we could drive out normally in the morning. Fortunately, we didn’t go with two people, otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to get much sleep. And so my brother-in-law threw some firewood, and I woke up with an alarm clock and started the car, monitoring the temperature inside.

And of course, as without a bottle or two of strong. The rum, I’ll say right away, went unnoticed. Apparently not due to the climate. But the vodka went perfectly with the pickles and the brisket with lard. Now I understand why it is more popular with our cold weather. The girls made themselves hot mulled wine.

Before going to bed, in order to please the child, a small fireworks display went out of the gate.

Somewhere around two o'clock we went to bed. I still looked out the window at the sky and moonlight, set the alarm to start the car and fell asleep.

The Konzhakovsky stone is the highest point in the Sverdlovsk region and one of the highest peaks in the Urals - 1569 meters. Part of a mountain range represented by several peaks: Serebryansky Stone, Trapezium, Tylaysky Stone and others. The place is famous and popular among tourists not only in the Urals, but also in Russia - every summer the Konzhak marathon is held here with a race to the top. Minerals are hidden in the depths of the mountain, which form magnetic anomalies in some places, knocking down the compass needle. Snow in small pieces sometimes does not melt all summer.

  • 6 years of experience in organizing ascents to the Konzhakov Stone
  • Dozens of climbers of different ages who have been to the summit
  • Upon completion, a certificate of ascent is issued, as well as a commemorative badge of the tourist club

Mount Konzhakovsky Stone is located 400 kilometers north of Yekaterinburg. Is popular place for beginner tourists and climbers. Climbing the Konzhakov Stone in November is an interesting and exciting adventure, which is suitable not only for those who are getting acquainted with hiking life for the first time, but also for those who want to warm up before a more serious route. A camp stove will fill a special winter tent with warmth, and preparing the camp for an overnight stay will allow you to look at yourself and others from a new perspective.

Overnight stays during the ascent will be in a tent with a stove that is heated all night. Therefore, it will be warm - we will not freeze!

Due to the short duration of the route, you can safely go on the route with families: both teenagers and slightly younger participants (after discussing this issue with the organizer).

Having visited the mountains just once, you will again and again strive to go where you can touch the clouds. But if you have never been to the mountains, then it’s time to think about a mountain trip. For example, take part in climbing the Konzhakov Stone.

Rules of participation and safety precautions when climbing the Konzhakovsky Stone

1 day

The entire group meets at 08:00 local time at the Marins Hotel Park Hotel in the center of Yekaterinburg (map). Pre-launch photo, seating arrangements and departure to the north of the Sverdlovsk region. The distance to the desired place is almost 450 kilometers, or 8-9 hours with stops at roadside cafes. Before reaching the village of Kytlym, near the Konzhakovka River, we set up a camp and collect enough firewood to heat the stove at night. Dinner.

Day 2

Breakfast. We pack up the camp and move to the Artists' Clearing. The peak of Konjak (1569 meters) is about 21 km from our first camp. There are 13 of them to go through. Usually the trail is well-trodden by snowmobiles, so it goes well, your feet don’t fall into the snow. If you have drags, you can take them with you and carry your backpack in them. On the way to the Artists' Glade you will need to cross small rivers several times. In both places there are bridges made of logs, but they become icy and you need to be careful and careful when crossing. After a slight ascent and descent, the road finally rises and gradually gains altitude all the way to the Job plateau, where we will go tomorrow. Depending on the weather conditions and the preparedness of the group, the transition to the Artists' Glade can be accomplished either without lunch or by having a snack halfway there. Upon arrival at the clearing, we set up camp, set up tents, prepare firewood, settle in - here we have to spend 2 nights.

Day 3

Summit day. Breakfast, preparations. We take with us thermoses with hot tea/coffee, a snack, spare mittens and hats (for this you can take a small backpack with you or empty a compression bag) and hit the road. From the camp to the top you need to gain about 770 meters of altitude, or about 8 km on foot. The slope at the initial stage is quite steep, the snow is no longer so compacted, and it is more difficult to walk. Having climbed to the Iovskoye Plateau, you can take a short break, look around the surroundings from a height of 1100 meters and take a photo with the monument to the 300th anniversary of Ural metallurgy. Then we continue our way to the top. In November, this is a completely snow-covered route; in some places you can feel the boulders under the snow, and in the summer you have to walk not only along the path, but also along the kurum. Usually the ascent takes 3-4 hours. The highest point of Konjak (1569 meters) is marked with a tricolor and a metal cross - you can’t miss it. IN good weather The highest point of Konjac offers a magnificent view. After a photo session and a snack, we begin our descent from the top. There is no need to rush - the slope is steep in places. The descent will take about 2-3 hours. If you love and know how to snowboard or alpine skiing- you can take them with you on the route and descend from the top on them. Upon returning to camp - dinner and rest.

Day 4

Wake up (possibly early), breakfast, gather camp. We walk 13 km along the road that leads to the Artists' Glade. We have lunch, wait for the ordered transport, take our seats and go home. The journey is also 8-9 hours, 450 km. The bus will take the group to the Marins Park Hotel. Estimated arrival time is 20:00.
