Where to stay in Bangkok. Bangkok, arrival at Suvarnabhumi airport. Where, what and how after landing

If you don't know the city of Bangkok and the areas of Bangkok, and you are wondering where and in which area of Bangkok to stay, this information is for you. The purpose of this article is not to recommend specific hotels, but rather to help you become familiar with some potential areas in which you can book a hotel. There are many hotels and guesthouses in Bangkok to suit every taste and budget.
1. City center - Siam and Pratunam area (area of large shopping centers)
Advantages of this location: It is truly central to the city. You'll be close to the big ones shopping centers Bangkok. You'll also be close to the Siam (and other) BTS Skytrain station, next to the airport train line, and close to the nearby Nana area. You will have many options of all kinds of restaurants.
Disadvantages: Hotels and food in the city center are more expensive. There are usually large, chain hotels eg Novotel. Although you can find budget hotels in Pratunam area.

2. City center - Sukhumvit Street, Nana area. Advantages of this location: Also central. It is located near one of the central places nightlife Bangkok. Close to where the discos are located on Soi 11 Sukhumvit (Soi are small streets branching off from Sukhumvit Street). Close to the red light district of Nana and Soi Cowboy. Just 3 stations on the BTS to Bangkok's large shopping center Siam Paragon. You can find many budget hotels in the area. There is also a lot of street fast food there. Disadvantages: very noisy area, gets boring after a while.

3. Khaosan Road area - tourist area
It is a stopping place for many tourists and a tourist attraction.
Advantages of this place: many inexpensive hotels and inexpensive places to eat, lively atmosphere. Lots of vegetarian restaurants. Khao San is close to many central tourist attractions such as: Grand Royal Palace, river Chao Phraya and Wat Saket temple. Disadvantages: BTS Skytrain does not reach this area, making it more difficult to get to the city center. Khao San Road is quite a noisy street, but you can find quiet riverside hotels on Phra Arthit Street and the smaller streets nearby.

4. Chao Phraya River
Advantages of this location: It is always nice to have a view of the river from the window. The Chao Phraya River is one of the most beautiful and elegant places in Bangkok, and accommodation is more expensive there.
There are luxury hotels on the river such as the Hilton and Sheraton hotels at Pier 3 for boat transport.
The Khaosan Road area is also located close to the river, but as I wrote above, you will need to stay in a hotel on Phra Athit Street to have a view of the river. If you stay on the Chao Phraya River, you can use it to get to certain attractions such as the Grand Royal Palace and temples. Disadvantages: hotels on the river are usually expensive. This is not the city center. The BTS Skytrain and MRT do not reach this part of Bangkok, you can only get on the BTS Skytrain at Tha Sathorn Central Pier (Pier N 0).

5. Silom - Pat Pong area
Advantages of this place: very lively area at night with bars, restaurants and a night market, there is also a modern shopping center. Pat Pong is also a red light district. Next to the big one. Good access to public transport, Sala Daeng BTS Skytrain station as well as Silom MRT station. It is only 3 stations from large shopping centers.
Disadvantages: very touristy area, noisy at night.

6. Chinatown
Advantages of this place: You will be in Little China, which is an attraction in itself and a busy area day and night. There are few tourists in the area, so you can book hotels by good prices.
relatively close to the main train station (and MRT) Hua Lamphong station, and also close to Chao River Praia.
Disadvantages: You need to take some kind of transportation to get anywhere, but it's still close. Plus, there aren't many hotels to choose from.

7. Close to the main international airport Suvarnabhumi.

If you are pressed for time and need to be able to quickly get to Suvarnabhumi International Airport.
Possible options:
You want your hotel to be close to the airport for minimal travel time, so you look for hotels near an international airport.
Do you want to stay in the city center of Bangkok, but will be able to quickly get to the airport at night: no problem at night traffic, so you can stay anywhere in Bangkok and you can reach the airport by taxi.
You want to stay in the center of Bangkok, but can quickly get to the airport during the day: Bangkok can get congested during the day (for many reasons), so you may want to book your hotel near one of the airport-bound Aeroexpress stations to bypass the congestion on roads, you can reach the airport in less than half an hour.
If you want to be within walking distance of Bangkok's shopping area, look for a hotel near the Phaya Thai Aeroexpress station.
If you want to be close to the nightlife area (Asok, Nana), look for a hotel near Makasaan station. With the BTS Skytrain or MRT underground nearby, you can reach downtown Bangkok fairly quickly, a very efficient service. In fact, being close to an expressway station in a non-tourist area may be better (transportation-wise) than staying in the tourist part of Bangkok (Khao San Road or Chao Phraya River) where there is no metro. Although, if there are several of you, using a taxi meter will be even more profitable than taking the metro.

Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport is the largest air hub in Thailand and one of the ten largest in the world. Suvarnabhumi was built in 2006, as a replacement for the outdated Don Mueang Airport, which has now been reoriented to domestic flights. Capacity is up to 75 flights per hour. In this article I will tell you in detail about Suvarnabhumi Airport, how to navigate it, where to exchange and withdraw money, spend the night and how to get to the city.

Despite the gigantic size of Suvarnabhumi, moving around the complex does not cause discomfort. All signs are clear and duplicated in English. The airport terminal complex consists of four floors:

  • 1 - bus station;
  • 2 — arrival area;
  • 3 — recreation area;
  • 4 — departure zone;
  • and 5, 6 - technical floors, on which the airport administration and airline offices are located.

There is also a ground floor (underground) at the airport, where you can take the metro and go into the city.

Floor 1. Bus station

On the ground floor there are bus platforms from which flights depart to Pattaya, Koh Chang, Bangkok and other places. There are also: a VIP lounge, various shops, food outlets, restaurants, and a medical center.

Floor 2. Arrivals area

This floor is dedicated to receiving passengers arriving on international and domestic flights. Here are located: passport control area, customs, baggage claim area, information offices, exchange offices, airline offices, shops, restaurants.

Floor 3. Recreation area

On this floor there are recreation areas, as well as various service points: restaurants with various cuisines, bars, cafes, VIP rooms, bank offices, a beauty salon and a Thai massage parlour.

Floor 4. Departure area

This floor is used for check-in and departure of passengers on regional and international flights. The level is divided into two zones: local and international flights. Here are located: passport control area, flight check-in counters, security control areas, duty-free shops, restaurants and other services.

Arrivals area

Stepping off the ramp after arriving at Bangkok Airport, you will find yourself on the second floor of the airport complex. There is a considerable distance from the arrival gate to the immigration check point, along which there are duty-free shops. If you don't plan to shop here, take advantage of the moving sidewalk system.

When you reach the Passport control counter, take it from the counter and fill out your migration card (if you did not have time to do this on the plane). The migration card itself consists of three parts - two parts will remain with the checking customs officer, and the third with the date by which you should leave the country will be glued to your passport. After passing through passport control, you can move freely throughout Thailand.

If you had checked luggage, you should follow the Luggage sign which will take you to the conveyor belts. Find your flight and wait for your luggage to appear. If you have a problem and you haven’t found your luggage, contact Lost and Found and fill out a statement about its loss.

After receiving your luggage, before leaving the arrival area, you need to go through customs control. As at other airports, the customs area is divided into two corridors:

  • green if you have nothing to declare;
  • red if you are carrying items that local laws require you to declare.

At this stage, customs officers may search your luggage.

Departure area

When you arrive at the airport, you need to proceed to the third floor and check in for your flight. To do this, go to the check-in counter, get your boarding pass and check in your luggage.

Luggage storage at the airport

You can leave your belongings in a storage room for 100 baht per day. You can find it on the third and fourth floors. The luggage storage facility at the airport is called “left luggage”, the name is written in blue letters.

How to exchange and withdraw money?

To withdraw money from a bank card, use one of the many ATMs located on all floors of the airport. In Thailand they are called ATM. I wrote in detail about withdrawing cash from a bank card in Thailand.

You can also use the services exchange offices, there are quite a lot of them at the airport.

It is worth considering that the exchange rate here is undervalued and it is recommended to change a small amount, which will be enough to get to the city.

Hotels near the airport

Within a radius of 2.5 kilometers from the airport there are 10 hotels of different price categories. The closest location (within walking distance) is Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport Hotel. The hotel is the most convenient for transit passengers and those who have an early flight planned.

Alternative lodging options near the airport include Louis’ Tavern Transit hotel Dayrooms Suvarnabhumi Airport Hotel and YHA Bangkok Airport Hostel.

How to get to Bangkok?

There are several types of transfers from Suvarnabhumi Airport to the city. Each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Taxi services

One of the most convenient types of transport is a taxi. There are two ways to use taxi services directly at Bangkok Airport:

  • Public taxi stand. To order a taxi, you need to go down to the first floor of the airport. Here you will find a taxi ordering counter, where you indicate the route of the trip and you are given a receipt for the driver. This receipt must be given to the driver upon boarding. You should pay for a taxi according to the meter at the end of the trip. Be careful, the driver will add 50 baht to the meter amount, as well as the cost of tolls on the highway;
  • You can also save a little and catch a taxi that brings people to the airport (officially this is prohibited, but in fact many people choose this method). To do this, you need to go up to the top floor of the airport terminal.

Metro

The most reliable and safe way to get to Bangkok is the city line or metro. With its help, you can get to the city center in 35 minutes. The train stops at 8 stations during the trip.

All titles are announced in Thai and English languages, and are also duplicated on the running information board located in each car.

Suvarnabhumi Airport base station is located on the ground floor of the airport. You can find the entrance to it thanks to convenient system airport internal navigation. The fare to the final station is 45 baht. City Line operating hours are from 6:00 to 0:25 without breaks.

City bus

In order to use the city bus, you need to use a special shuttle bus to get to the external bus terminal of the airport. The following buses depart from it:

  • number 550: airport - Happy Land;
  • number 553 (night): airport - Samutprakarn;
  • number 554 (night): airport - Rangsit;
  • number 555: airport - Rangsit;
  • number 558: airport - Samae Dam.

Transfer

If you are not flying to Bangkok on a tourist package, you need to take care of ordering a transfer in advance. It can be ordered at. In order to use a paid transfer, in the arrivals area you need to find a representative of the company from which you ordered the service and provide him with your reservation details. After your details have been verified, you will be directed to board your bus or car.

How to get to Don Muang Airport?

The easiest and, most importantly, absolutely free way to get from Suvarnabhumiv Airport to Don Mueang Airport is a shuttle bus (bus). Runs from 5 a.m. to midnight. Travel time takes 35 minutes. It departs every forty minutes or every hour. The shuttle bus stop is located on the second floor near the airport exit and is marked with a Shuttle bus sign. At Don Muang Airport the bus stops near the departures area.

However, the shuttle bus does not operate at night from 0:00 to 05:00, at which time the only means of transportation between airports is a taxi. A one-way metered fare will be about 350 baht.

Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport is a convenient and modern terminal complex that provides the maximum possible range of services. Once here, be sure that you will not get lost thanks to convenient and clear navigation, and your stay here will leave only positive memories.

When going to Bangkok, you can be sure that in any case you will find a hotel room - even for a day, even for a week or more. The choice is so great that many tourists are at a loss, not knowing where to choose. This article describes best hotels in Bangkok taking into account not only the list of amenities provided, but also the location, because some people want to have the airport nearby, while others want the capital’s attractions. However, if you are going to visit Thailand from December to February, you should take care of booking a room one or two months in advance. Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport is one of the largest airports I have seen. You would have to use golf carts to get around there, otherwise by the time you get from one end to the other, the day will pass. Once upon a time, before active travel, I read the blogs of various travelers and came across photographs of Suvarnabhumi, then I could not imagine that I would not just end up at this airport, but would visit it ten times and would go to Thailand for the winter every year. This is how it happens, you read, you draw some pictures in your head, and then one day - and you saw it all yourself.

How many airports are there in Bangkok? There is also a second airport in Bangkok, which is called. It is more used for low-cost companies. But today we are talking only about Suvarnabhumi Airport.

How to get to Bangkok

Suvarnabhumi - main airport countries. It accounts for most of international flights. Many people fly here first, and then fly with local low-cost airlines to resorts; it may turn out to be more profitable. But in any case, it all depends on the specific dates. And if you buy tickets in advance, you can, for example, fly to Phuket very profitably instead of making a transfer in Bangkok.

It is best to monitor tickets to Thailand through air ticket search engines such as Aviasales.ru and. Then you can see offers from all airlines in one place. Below in the calendar you can estimate prices in different months.

Online board of departure and arrival to Suvarnabhumi

Below is online scoreboard with arriving and departing flights. The information on the board is displayed in real time and you can always see which flight is expected, which one is delayed, etc.

Arrival and departure

In order not to get confused between floors, since at first it is a little difficult, given the numbering of floors, save yourself a picture on your phone.

The departure area is located on the 4th floor. There are both international flights and local ones.

On the 3rd floor there are restaurants with Thai and European food, as well as a waiting area, although it is small.

On the 2nd floor there is the arrivals area, where passport control and baggage claim are located. After leaving the baggage claim area, you can buy a SIM card, exchange money, withdraw money from an ATM, find a car rental counter and access to the free bus that takes you to Don Mueang.

On the 1st floor there are ticket offices for buses and minibuses to Khao San, Pattaya, Hua Hina, Koh Chang. Counters between gates 7 and 8. Also near these counters is the entrance to the Food Court with cheap Thai food.

On the 0th floor (B floor) there is a metro station from which you can travel to the center of Bangkok.

Filling out the immigration card

While on the plane you will be given an immigration card, which you need to fill out. There are two parts, an arrival card and a departure card. The first one will be taken from you by the border guards, the second one must be kept until departure. You don’t have to worry too much about filling them out; they don’t get a lot of attention. We wrote a fake hotel and that we don’t work anywhere - and everything is fine. But in connection with the latest tightening, it is better to write some kind of position, some kind of manager, or take action.

Passport control

Having arrived at Bangkok airport and getting off the plane, it makes sense to move quickly in order to be among the first at passport control. Sometimes there are queues and we once stood for 2 hours. You need to follow the signs for Immigration or Baggage claim. It may take a long time to walk, so there are moving paths everywhere.

When you see the blue carpet, which makes your eyes a little dazzled, you are there. Your window labeled Foreign. You can try to stand in the very right queue, from there they sometimes redirect people to the windows intended for Thais, especially if you are with a child. And if the child is small, then you can ask yourself. By the way, you've probably heard that Thailand is the land of smiles. So this does not apply to the Bangkok airport, and especially to the border guards. There are some weird Thais there.

The entire arrivals area is located on the second floor of Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport. When you receive your luggage, look around, there are stands where you can take free card Bangkok. Also, after leaving the baggage claim area, you can get yourself a local SIM card, exchange currency or withdraw money from an ATM. Dollars/euro are not accepted in shops in Thailand, so you need to have baht. More about this below.

Return flight

Now consider the option when you need to fly from Suvarnabhumi Airport. The departure area is located on the 4th floor of Bangkok Airport. If you take a taxi, you will be taken directly to this floor. If you take the metro, you will need to take the elevator or escalators from the ground floor to the very top, don’t miss it, it’s the last one.

On the fourth floor there is a common area for international flights and domestic flights from Bangkok Air and Thai Airways. Let me remind you that from October 1, 2012, AirAsia and other low-cost airlines were moved to . Keep this in mind when planning your transfers!

On the 4th floor there are several stores like 7/11 and Family Mart. There are only three entrances to passport control - two for international flights and one for domestic flights.

Where to get a SIM card at the airport

On the second floor in the arrivals area, after receiving your luggage and exiting through the green/red corridor, you can buy a local SIM card with the Internet package you need: , . I usually use DTAC.

It also happens that everyone is given free SIM cards from True Move at the exit, so there can be problems with them later if you need the Internet, and you understand, free SIM cards contain a minimum balance, you still need to connect the necessary Internet package.

Buy a local Thai SIM card online in advance and get 4G internet for 8 days in 131 baht instead of 299 baht. Your SIM card will be waiting for you right at the airport at the Klook/Dtac kiosk. This is just a gift, you won’t find these prices anywhere else. The tariff is more than enough for instant messengers, browsing websites, google maps etc. Just in case.

Where to change money at the airport

It’s hard to miss the exchangers here; there are one on every floor and in different banks. The rate is quite normal for exchanging currency into baht if you have small amounts. Likewise, when departing from Thailand, you can change the baht back to dollars/euro at the airport so as not to carry baht with you.

But! If you have a large amount or want to save money, then look for the SuperRich exchanger. It is located on the ground floor, Level B, where the Airport Link metro access is. Best course! And exactly the same as in their branch in the center of Bangkok. And usually SuperRich is recommended as a good exchanger.

Read my recommendations for choosing, perhaps you, like me, do not like to take wads of cash with you, and prefer to withdraw money from ATMs and pay for purchases with a card. And here, just in case, I’m giving a link to that. The airport is full of ATMs where you can withdraw money. There are also dollar/euro ATMs in the transit area, but access to them is only possible when departing from Thailand.

Free Wifi at Bangkok Airport

Free Internet is provided for 2 hours; to do this, you need to connect to the AirportTrueFreeWiFi wifi network, enter your data, register and log in.

If 2 hours is not enough for you, then you can buy internet. I would suggest using the mobile Internet better by purchasing a SIM card with a traffic package for a day or a week. On the second floor in the arrivals area there are DTAC, AIS and True Move counters, where you can easily buy a SIM card and select the desired amount of traffic. Mobile 4G and 3G are excellent at the airport. More information about tariffs. I usually use DTAC or AIS.

Where to eat at the airport

In the departure area on the 4th floor, there are stores like 7/11 and Family Mart: rolls, chocolates, noodles and boiling water in addition, tea, coffee, dried fruits, yogurt, etc. There is also ready-made food (rice with something) that will be heated for you in the microwave.

On the ground floor there is a 7/11 and a couple of cafes. But if you want to have a full meal, then you need to either go to the 3rd floor, where all the cafes are located, or to the food court (Food Point) on the 1st floor. If you love Thai food and know what Thai food courts are, then I would recommend you go to the food court. It is located near exit number 8, the prices are Thai, you can eat for 50-100 baht per plate. Usually the Thais themselves and airport workers eat here.

Luggage storage at Suvarnabhumi Airport

Luggage storage at Bangkok airport costs 100 baht per day. It is located on the 4th floor in the departure area. There is also another storage room on the 3rd floor.

Where to stay overnight at or near the airport

If you need a normal, comfortable overnight stay during transit, then there is a budget hotel very close, it’s literally a 20-minute metro ride, and it’s right next to the metro station. I stayed there several times for 1-2 days.

If you want to get even closer, check out RoomGuru's map, it's full of options. But keep in mind that you will need to get there by taxi and in total, it’s not a fact that it will be much faster than by metro. The closest hotel is Boxtel, it is located right at the airport, consider that too. By the way, you can book it for half a day.

In general, I have stayed in Bangkok many times and different hotels. I won’t provide links to all my reviews, I’ll add a few more: - a good place to spend the night near Khao San, but located on Sukhumvit in the city center.

I hope you know that in Asia you should definitely look at Agoda, Booking alone will not be enough for you, and this is exactly why aggregators like this are convenient, they have everything at once, but the best thing is RoomGuru. If you need to find a hotel in Bangkok, then choose accommodation through this service, it will show all the discounts, and then you will book where it is more profitable.

Also, at the airport itself you can take a nap on the sky seats for free if you need to wait a short time for your flight. There are plenty of them in the departure area, but they are also found on almost all floors. And if you are a backpacker with a sleeping bag and a mat, then there are relatively secluded places under the escalators on the lowest zero floor. A bonus for you will be sockets on the walls, if they haven’t been removed yet.

VAT refund or VAT refund

At Bangkok Airport before departure, you can get a tax refund on purchases made in Thailand. First, when making a purchase in a store, you must fill out a tax refund paper. However, this opportunity is not available in all stores and the one-time purchase amount for paperwork must be at least 2,000 baht.

Bangkok airport map

The main building where you will arrive is rectangular in shape and has 5 floors connected by escalators and elevators. Adjacent to this building are the sleeves along which you will move from the plane to passport control.

Please note that the numbering of floors is a little non-standard for Russia: there is a zero-ground floor (called B) and floors from 1st to 4th. The ground floor is underground, has no exits to the outside, and from there you can take the metro into the city.

How to get from the airport to Bangkok

Metro and bus

  • The metro (Suvarnabhumi Airport City Line) costs 15-45 baht to the city center (depending on the number of stations). City Line operating hours are from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • The same as the previous option, only a non-stop express (Suvarnabhumi Airport Express), going to the final station Phaya Thai. The cost is already 150 baht.
  • There is an option with buses for 35 baht, but to be honest, I have never used them. There, you first need to take a shuttle and get to the bus terminal near the airport and only then take the bus.
  • Tickets to Khao San can be purchased on the 1st floor between gates 7 and 8, where there is a sales counter. The minibus will go from there.

I'll tell you about the metro separately. From Bangkok Airport there is a direct independent line to the city center, it is called City Line and as such it has no relation to the other metro lines, so you will have to pay again when transferring. It lies above ground and allows you to enjoy views of the city of Bangkok. To take the metro, you just need to take the escalator or elevator to the lowest floor (ground), following the signs, To City / Train to City / City Line.

Once you've taken the City Line to central Bangkok, there are different options depending on your needs.

  • In order to get to railway station Hua Lamphong, you will need to change at Makkasan Station (change to MRT).
  • In order to get to the bus station in Bangkok Mo chit, a transfer is made at the Phaya Thai terminal station (transfer to the BTS Skytrain metro).

Just in case, let me remind you that tickets for intercity buses and train tickets can now be purchased in advance online only at. Payment by card or via PayPal. In the case of a railway, the original ticket must be received in hand - either by mail or in one of the offices.

You can read more about the types of metro, about the railway and bus stations of Bangkok, as well as how and where to get there, in the articles on.

Taxi

A taxi to the city center will cost an average of 300-500 baht or more, depending on traffic jams and distance. The most important thing is to go by the meter, then you will get a normal price. If you are traveling with two or three, it is easier to take a taxi than to take the metro. Read more about taxis in Bangkok and driving on the meter in this article.

You will need to go down to the ground floor and follow the Public Taxi signs to the street through the glass doors. You can leave from any exit; it will be even easier to find your way there on the street. Right after the exit you will see signs and terminals with coupons, and, possibly, a queue. Take the ticket and then go to the board with the desired number. It’s not difficult, you’ll figure it out on the spot. By the way, you can take a taxi directly to Pattaya, Hua Hin, etc., but the price will most likely be fixed and not every taxi driver will want to take you, because it’s far away.

Taxi stands and queue on the street on the 1st floor of the airport

Transfer via Internet

Anyone who wants a minimum of physical movements can order a transfer online to. That is, you order a taxi in advance via the Internet and they will meet you in the arrival hall with a name sign, take your luggage, put you in a car and take you to the right place. The good thing about this method is that there are no problems at all. Transfers can be ordered not only to the city center, but also to Pattaya, Koh Chang, Hua Hin, etc.

I have already used this service several times and described mine, read it.

From Suvarnabhaumi to Don Muang Airport

I decided to write in detail about the ways to get between the two Bangkok airports and therefore wrote a separate post on this topic -. Free bus, metro, taxi, etc.

How to get to other cities

Instructions

I have a lot of information here on the blog, and in particular, how to get to this or that city if you fly to Bangkok. I will provide the main links to my detailed instructions.

Car rental

I have already rented a car at Bangkok airport 10 times, both upon arrival and while living in Bangkok itself. Read more about all the nuances of renting in Thailand in my post - based on many years of experience.

The car is very comfortable and gives great freedom of movement. You book in advance, you receive it immediately upon arrival, and when you return the car to the airport, you can always go somewhere further from the airport by bus or to Bangkok itself by metro/taxi. After having a child and having more things, I prefer to travel by car rather than by car. public transport. And in general, I tried some road trips and now I almost always go by car alone.

It's best to book through. On one site you will see offers from all major rental companies and the price will be 2 times lower than directly. Arrive and you will immediately have your own car at the airport. I save like this all the time.

Suvarnabhumi Airport on the map

This airport is located in the east of the city, one might even say outside the city. Therefore, it takes about an hour to get to the center. But if you are heading to Pattaya, Koh Chang, etc., then it’s even closer to you than it was from the city center from the bus station.

Life hack 1 - how to buy good insurance

It’s incredibly difficult to choose insurance now, so I’m compiling a rating to help all travelers. To do this, I constantly monitor forums, study insurance contracts and use insurance myself.

Upon arrival in Bangkok at Suvarnabhumi Airport (Suvarnabhumi, BKK), novice tourists may have many questions - where to go, how to go through passport control, where to get luggage, exchange currency, take a taxi, how to get to your hotel without overpaying, and so on. . We will try to briefly answer these questions and hope that this guide will help you when you visit Thailand for the first time. Well, next time you will be able to give useful tips other novice tourists. Just in case, look for all the information about the capital of Thailand in the Bangkok guide

Let's begin. After landing a plane in an unfamiliar foreign port, a novice tourist may be faced with only three, maximum four important questions:

    • Where and how to go through passport control?
    • Where to receive luggage?
    • Where can I exchange money?
    • How to get to your hotel?

All the rest are nonsense, believe me. Therefore, we will not burden you with all sorts of “taxes” such as an airport diagram, a departure board, as well as a story about where to eat, go to the toilet, and the like. Let us just note the following: if you need Mobile Internet, then at airports Sim-ki, as a rule, are much more expensive. So if it doesn’t work, then be patient, in an hour and a half you will be at your hotel, where with a 99% probability there will be Wi-Fi, and in the city you can easily find a suitable Internet package at a reasonable price.

After landing the plane at Bangkok airport, the first thing you will have to do is go through passport control. Where and how to look for it? It's very simple. Once off board, simply follow the flow of people. Suvarnabhumi Port is not big, but huge, but that's not scary. You have to walk and ride on transport belts for hundreds of meters.

Your goal is located right next to this sign; as soon as you see it, turn and you will immediately find yourself at the passport control counters.

Here you will definitely need to present two documents:

    • international passport
    • migration card

Sometimes, extremely rarely, you may be asked to show your return air ticket and hotel reservation. Personally, no matter how many times we flew to Bangkok, they were never asked. But we strongly recommend having a printout of your return ticket (even if it’s fictitious). You never know the border guard will be in a bad mood.

    • Attention! According to the law, to obtain permission for a 30-day stay in Thailand without a visa, having a return ticket is a mandatory condition.

There are also rumors (more precisely, again according to the law) - you must have a certain minimum required amount of money. Personally, we do not know what it should be, because neither ourselves nor our friends have ever demanded confirmation of financial capabilities upon arrival in Bangkok. That is, you can definitely “not worry” about this point.

Hotel reservations are also obligatory, but in fact the border guards are not interested in them. But again, we personally recommend having a reservation, and this is not so much about the rules of entry into Thailand, but about your comfort. Well, think and imagine - you are in Bangkok for 1-2 days, you plan to see and do a lot, and in order to save money, you decided to find a hotel on the spot.

Yes, it’s cheaper locally, but in this case, believe me, the savings will not be so great as to compensate for the time spent searching for a hotel and the effort spent. Walking around in 40-degree heat with luggage in your hands is a dubious pleasure, but if you expect to drive around in a tuk-tuk while looking for housing, then you know, it can cost a pretty penny. If anyone needs it, here are our recommendations on where to stay in Bangkok.

But we got distracted. So, we think no one has any questions about the passport, but what a migration card is, where to get it and how to fill it out, some may not understand.

    What is a migration card

A migration card, or as it is also called Arrival Card, is a document in which you indicate who you are, why, where and for how long you arrived in Thailand. You can pick it up either at the passport control counters at the airport or on board your plane. We recommend the latter, i.e. ask the flight attendant (sometimes they forget to hand them out) and fill it out right away.

How to fill out an Arrival Card

The map has two parts. To enter, you need to fill out the Arrival Card. A sample filling is shown in the photo below.

You can fill out the second half of the Departure Card immediately, or you can fill it out before going through passport control when leaving Thailand. Keep in mind that upon entry, the Departure Card will be stamped with the date of arrival and it is highly inadvisable to rub it.

    Where to claim luggage

We cleared customs, everything is in order, now let's go get our luggage. The baggage conveyor belts are located right behind the passport control points, and it is simply impossible not to find them.

Another thing is to find exactly your feed. It's not difficult either. Look for this information board.

On it, find your flight number, next to which your baggage belt number will be indicated. You go to her with the hope that your luggage arrived with you and did not remain at some connecting port. Joke.

However, in every joke there is also the harsh truth of life. We hope that it will not affect you, but if it happens that your luggage does not arrive, do not despair and do not panic - 99% that everything will end well and very quickly. In case of lost luggage, at Bangkok airport you will need to find and contact your airline representative. Good and responsible airlines, such as Air Astana, for example, have not only ordinary representatives, but also a special “baggage counter”, where employees who deal with luggage issues are on duty. More information about what to do if such a problem arises is the topic of another article. details in it.

    Currency exchange

Ugh! Luggage with us. Hurray, we've arrived in Bangkok! The next step is to get local money. Robbery is not our method, so we simply change a small amount of cash. Many people prefer bank cards and do not like “cash”, but even such adherents of progress at this stage we recommend having a small amount in cash. Exchange currency at Bangkok airport is easy, you can easily find an exchange office, they are present in almost every corner.

There is no need to run around and compare the exchange rate, it is almost the same, and you only need to change a small amount. We usually change $50. This is more than enough to get to any hotel in the Thai capital, but in the city you can already exchange at a more favorable rate; there are plenty of banks and exchange offices there.

By the way, sometimes you can hear the following question: what currency is better to travel with and is it possible with rubles? So, it’s definitely not worth it with rubles. The preferred currency is euros or dollars. We always travel with American money, and in 50 and 100 bills, because... smaller notes exchange at a lower rate. Yes, yes, you heard right - the smaller the banknote, the less favorable the exchange rate.

    Where to get a taxi

On the Internet you can find many tales about terrible Thai taxi drivers, whose main goal is to rob tourists in Bangkok completely. Our opinion about this is complete nonsense. IN international airport In Bangkok, you are definitely not in danger of meeting such people, at least if you do as we now advise you.

You received your luggage, exchanged currency - go to the exit here.

You find yourself in the next room.

You are now on the 2nd floor of the airport. You need Public Taxi (public taxi) - their riser is on the floor below.

You go to the escalator, go down, go out into the street and see a lot of taxis, mostly white and green.

Look for the Public Taxi sign and these electronic terminals.

Click on the button and get this ticket.

There is a number on it - this is the parking number of your taxi. Find a sign with the corresponding numbers, go to the car under it, where a joyful driver is already waiting for you - the victim has arrived.

Are you tormented by the question of how to negotiate a price and not overpay? Otherwise, call your hotel - pay by meter! It is strict here (at this landing place), and for violating such a rule the driver will face a very severe punishment, so even if you ask him to turn off the meter, the driver will most likely refuse you. The only way they can deceive you is to drive around the city, but, again, we personally, when leaving the Bangkok airport, we never came across such a scam option. If you are in doubt, you can always turn on the navigator; we think it is installed in your smartphone. By the way, we ourselves use the Maps.Me application and recommend it to you.

    • Tip #1. Have a printout of your hotel reservation in Thai; many taxi drivers speak little or no English.
    • Tip #2. After boarding the taxi, you will be offered two travel options - by toll road and as usual. We recommend not saving, the amount is insignificant (for example, from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Khaosan Road it is +60 baht), but the chance of getting stuck in traffic jams for a long time and losing time is great. The entire cost of a trip on this route according to the meter is about 300 baht.

However, if you are too lazy to bother with anything at all, just order a taxi through the website and you don’t need to think about anything else. The driver will meet you at the airport, escort you, show you everything you need and take you to the specified hotel.

That's basically all you need to know about Suvarnabhumi Airport so that your arrival in Bangkok does not cause any fears or unnecessary worries.

    Where to stay in Bangkok

Well, in conclusion, a few words about where it is better to stay in Bangkok for a couple of days. In our opinion, if your plans are to see as many attractions as possible in a short time without overpaying, then the optimal solution would be a hotel in the Khaosan Road area (read about how to get from the airport to Khaosan for just 60 baht). There are many legends about this street, including one that it is very noisy here, and the only hotels are cheap hostels. This is fundamentally wrong, there are a lot of quite decent hotels here (including 3-4 stars) and if you choose the right place, the quiet will be almost village-like.

From the category of relatively inexpensive, but with a good price/quality ratio, we can recommend the following:

Rambuttri Village Plaza - despite the fact that it only has a couple of stars, the hotel is not bad at all. Located on Rambuttri Street, in that part of it where you can sleep peacefully without fear of the noise of night bars and discos. There are several buildings with rooms of different price categories, but all have the necessary set of services (including a safe) for a stay for several days. But the main advantage is two rooftop swimming pools.

New Siam Hotels is a chain of hotels for every taste and budget, from guest rooms to quite solid 3 stars. All are located in calm, quiet places.

New Siam Riverside - located on the banks of the Chao Phraya River, if your wallet is not burdened by spending from 1,500 baht, then you will not regret choosing it. It’s not that it’s super duper, the rooms are not luxurious, but the balconies and river views (not in all rooms, be careful when booking) are great! Plus, there's a pool over the river.

New Siam II is the best of them in terms of price/quality ratio. Available: swimming pool, elevator, rooms with balconies, all with safes. Hassle-free check-in if you arrive a few hours earlier, provided, of course, that your room has already been vacated by previous guests and cleaned.

New Siam III is a Guest House of a very good standard. Main advantages: absolutely quiet place, sound insulation is much better than in other establishments of this class, the rooms are equipped with safes.

If you are not too picky and not rich, then we can recommend the Four Sons Village guest house. By booking a room with a balcony on the 4th-5th floor, you can listen to the crowing of roosters and birds in the morning, and in the evenings admire the panorama of old Bangkok, as well as the view during the day Nothing.

View from the fifth floor Hotel Four Sons Village

If you need to get from the old city to the new Bangkok with its skyscrapers and shopping centers, then know that you can get there from Khaosan for only 11 baht, and it will take 30-40 minutes. But we'll talk about this in another article.
