Marinas in Bangkok. Transport in Bangkok. How to get around the capital of Thailand. Chao Phraya River Water Bus Tickets

It's the simplest and cheap way To see the city means, of course, to use water transport.
The Chao Phraya River permeates the entire Bangkok and desired route, you can see a lot for just 20 – 120 baht
attractions. Not to mention, a walk along the river in Bangkok will help you see the capital of Thailand from different angles.

Boat ride on Chao Phraya in Bangkok

There are several options to see Bangkok by boat. Boats, speedboats, water taxis – there are many options.
In this article we will consider the most interesting and profitable for tourists.

We will discard such an obvious method as “a cruise along Chao Phraya” or “dinner on a boat in Bangkok”, since you can easily
Buy this excursion from your travel agent or at any pier.
Chao Phraya boat dinner prices range from 1,100 to 2,000 baht per person.

My favorite way to travel by boat around Chao Phraya is by express boat.

Chao Phraya Express boat routes and differences

The express boats on Chao Phraya have flags to help guide you.
Orange, yellow and green are express boats that ply the same route but stop at different piers.

A boat with a blue flag is a tourist boat. Very handy convenient option. You pay 120 baht ( single ticket all day)
and you can go and go all day long from different piers and see the sights of Bangkok as much as you can.

The Chao Phraya Express Boat without a flag is the cheapest public transport in Bangkok (from 10 baht) - does
stops at ALL piers.

Bangkok's water transport is well-deservedly popular among local residents. This is not surprising, because in essence it is a kind of “water taxi”, which allows you to comfortably get where you need to go and avoid minor troubles like traffic jams. In addition, during such a trip along the Chayo Praya River you can take interesting photographs, admire the city’s beauty and just have a pleasant rest. River transport in Bangkok runs quite frequently. You will have to wait no more than ten to fifteen minutes.

Types of river transport in Bangkok

In order not to pay a lot, tourists need to pay attention to the carrier company that owns the boat they “like.” It may be that the same, at first glance, ships will sail on the same route, but the cost of services is significantly different.

There are quite a lot of carrier companies providing this type of service in the city.

VesselscompaniesChao Phraya River Express

This company owns express boats that operate two types of routes. Daily – standard routes that run in the same direction (from six in the morning to seven in the evening). As well as special express trains operating on weekdays, at the busiest times (from six to nine o’clock in the morning and from fifteen to seventeen o’clock in the afternoon).

The boats of this company are marked with flags of different colors depending on the route; without a flag they moor at all piers.

The cost of tickets for this transport ranges from ten to thirty baht, depending on the distance. It turns out cheaper than taking the metro, even for a short distance.

VesselscompaniesChao Phraya Tourist Boat

The river routes of this company are designed specifically for city guests. The boat slowly moves up the river, stopping along the way at ten main city piers. This is done so that tourists can better view and photograph local attractions from the river side. While driving, the guide talks about the history, cultural traditions and attractions of the city.

The ticket price is only about fifteen baht, but local residents Such “tourist” boats are extremely rarely used, primarily due to the large number of stops and slow speed of travel. You can also buy an unlimited day pass for 150 baht and ride all day on different boats of this company.

Cross-River Ferry vessels

This company offers passengers a ferry from one bank of the river to the other at a very attractive price - just a couple of baht. The boats are small in size and operate quite frequently.

River taxi

Otherwise called a longtail boat. They are very popular, primarily due to the fact that they develop high speed and follow main routes. tourist routes. Such boats can be rented to ride along the canals (klongs) of Bangkok. The fare, as well as the rental price, is negotiable and depends on the distance.

How to find the right pier and the right boat in Bangkok

If everything is more or less clear with the price, then all that remains is to clarify how to get on the boat you like. It's actually not difficult. Often, near the pier there is a sign on which the water transport schedule is written, and the number of the berth at which this or that boat arrives. There may be only one berth.

The berths are international. In Bangkok they look exactly the same as in any other city in the world, it’s impossible to go wrong.

On the pier you can see signs indicating where the express will dock and where the large ferry will be located. However, few people look at these images - it is enough to simply see where the desired boat has already stopped and head towards it. There will be more than enough time for this.

Important: express trains going to different directions can be moored in the same place on the pier.

Below is a map of the routes river transport with links to all piers, attractions and metro.

Buying tickets

Tickets to different kinds Bangkok river transport can be purchased at the ticket office located next to the pier or from the cashier sitting at the table. If there is no such ticket office, or there is no time to buy a ticket so as not to be late for the boat, you can pay directly “on the spot”. The ticketer will either move around the ferry and come up and ask for payment, or will stand at the entrance to the boat. Sometimes payment may be collected at the exit, upon arrival at the place.

Types of transport in Bangkok in order of convenience, speed and cost:

1. Metro: underground and above ground (fast and inexpensive, but for one person).

2. Taxi (necessarily metered!) - if there are two or more of you, then it will be cheaper to travel around Bangkok by taxi. For example, getting from the shopping center of BTS Siam to the Royal Palace costs about 70 baht.

3. Knock-knock. Mainly for tourists, in tourist places, but for short distances they can be quite convenient and inexpensive. The only thing worth knowing is not to take “free” city tours (they will take you shopping).

4. Boats. This is very cheap look transport and quite fast, but it can be used in a rather limited area.

5. Motorcycle taxi is the fastest mode of transport! But for long distances it is not very cheap. However, it has an undoubted advantage - if you rode a motorcycle taxi in Bangkok, then you are no longer afraid of anything in life (motorcycle taxis in Bangkok and Pattaya are one of the best attractions that are worth trying!).

6. BRT (bus line) - its disadvantage is that it is very small and tourist places almost doesn't go away. But you can drive around and see how Thais live without tourists.

7. Buses. If you have nowhere to spend your time and no money, then this transport is for you. The easiest way to use it is with the help of a Google map, which, when plotting a route, shows which buses go to the place you need.

And now more details.

BTS (Bangkok Mass Transit System) is an elevated metro system in Bangkok. It was opened in 1999 and currently remains one of the fastest and most convenient ways to get around Bangkok. The two metro lines intersect at the Siam transfer station, which is located in the shopping center of the city.

Cost of travel to BTS depends on the range. Minimum tariff 15 baht, maximum 55 baht. You can find out the cost and buy a single ticket right at the station in front of the train entrance. Everything is quite simple there: ticket cards are bought from machines on which the cost of the trip to the desired station is marked:

If you plan to make several trips a day, then it makes sense to purchase ticket at the box office - One Day Pass. It allows you to make unlimited trips within one day for 120 baht.

Suvarnabhumi link is a BTS line connecting Suvarnabhumi Airport to the city center. You can choose high-speed train(red line, closed until April 2015), it goes to the city center without stopping, or the city line train (blue line), it goes with several stops. The travel time on the express train will be 15 minutes, the ticket price is 90 baht, the city line train from terminal to terminal takes 40-50 minutes and the ticket costs 40 baht.

Taxi in Bangkok

Metered taxis in Bangkok are a fairly inexpensive means of transportation. For example:
— Get there from Suvarnabhumi Airport to the South Bus Station (sai tai mai) costs approximately 600 baht. It's quite far, more than an hour's drive.
— From the Surasak BTS station to the Eastern Bus Station 14 km. A taxi costs 75 baht. BTS - 40 baht.

During peak hours (8am or 6-8pm), taxis may take longer and make better use of the BTS. The rest of the time, you just need to check with the taxi meter - “taxi meter” - otherwise the trip may turn out to be much more expensive.

Order a taxi in Bangkok not developed (but), in Bangkok you can very quickly catch a taxi just by going out onto the road.

Lifehack. There is a very important thing for each of us - mobile phone. If you can open a Google map through it and determine your location, then there are no problems with public transport anywhere at all - you select a point on the map where you need to go, plot a route and see what public transport you can use to get there (Google lists all the numbers buses, etc.).

Bangkok public buses

There are a great variety of buses in Bangkok, their cost is minimal (there are even free ones), but their routes are so confusing that it seems difficult to figure out right away. However, if you have a smartphone with Google map, then everything is very simple - find your destination on the map and see bus routes that Google will offer you!

Traffic jams in Bangkok - especially in the evening - are simply crazy, so if it’s for business, then it’s better, of course, to take the metro, boats, or even a motorcycle taxi (if the traffic jams are really bad). good time for traveling by bus - around 10 a.m., when there should not be any major traffic jams. Well, if you are ready to spend your time and take a bus to the place you need, then here are some recommendations.

Bangkok buses come in several types:

  • Small green ones - they cost 6.5 baht without air conditioning, with wooden floors, open windows and doors.
  • Red buses are the same as green ones, but a little more, they cost 7 baht per trip. There are two types: if there is a yellow sign under the windshield, it means the bus is coming on the express route, if there is no yellow sign, then on the regular route.
  • White buses are not much different from red and green ones; a ticket costs 8 baht, perhaps because they look a little more decent.
  • White and blue with green stripes are air-conditioned buses, the ticket price depends on the distance and ranges from 11 to 19 baht. There are also two types: regular and express (with a yellow sign under the windshield).
  • Orange buses are air conditioned. Cost from 12 to 22 baht. There are regular and express.
  • Blue and yellow are air-conditioned express buses.
  • Pink and white buses - a ticket costs 25 baht, these buses are comfortable, air-conditioned and have seats only.

If you expect to quickly travel a long distance by bus, then it is better to forget about this idea. Despite the fact that buses often have a special lane on the road, they take a very long time, winding along the roads. But Bangkok buses are very convenient to use for short distances.

Bangkok river transport

Thanks to the abundance of canals, Bangkok was previously called the Second Venice. Before the advent of the highway network, canals and boats were the main means of transportation around the city. Now most of the canals are blocked and are not used for movement, but the largest ones remain and you can quickly move along them in the center. The cost of a ticket for a boat passing through the city's canals starts from 9 baht, depending on the distance of the trip.

A ticket for a boat on the Chao Phraya River costs 15 baht and does not depend on the distance. Express boats (for 40 baht) and water taxis also travel along the river. Tickets can be purchased at the piers and on the boats themselves. The largest pier is Sathon (also Taksin), it is located next to the BTS Saphan Taksin station.

Bangkok as modern Big City, offers residents and visitors everything their heart desires - from a high-speed air-conditioned metro to a chatty local tuk-tuk driver. But what is the best and most convenient way to travel, what are the advantages and disadvantages of this or that type of transport, as well as fares and route maps, I want to discuss in a series of articles. You can read about the Bangkok metro here, and find out about tuk tuk here. This article will talk about water transport Bangkok.

I myself, when I first went out into the city in the Khaosan Road area, had little idea of how to navigate this city and what to drive. And now I can easily find my way on my own and I will try to guide you.

There are 2 main waterways in Bangkok, which are easiest, cheaper and more convenient to travel by using river trams: the Chao Phraya River and the so-called Klongs, small canals.

And this is what Tha Tien pier looks like inside. This is one of the most visited piers on the Chao Phraya River because it is located next to temple of the reclining buddha Wat Pho and from where you can take a ferry to the temple Morning Dawn Wat Arun is just a matter of changing to the ferry going to the other side.

The routes of the water buses differ in color and flags of the same colors, in the form of flags, fly on the sides of the boats.

Even though it’s urban, you pass by many attractions as if on a tourist route.

Chao Phraya River Water Bus Tickets

As I already wrote, the cost of travel depends on the length of your trip. They will sell you a ticket either on the ship or from ticket agents right at the pier. The ticket looks like a regular ticket. There are even evening ones without stops right up to Khao San, for example.

Klong boats

In addition to the water buses on the big river in Bangkok, there is also a network of water canals that flow to many places in the city. Sometimes you won’t even think that there is a small river behind that big skyscraper, but nevertheless. And along these clogs, as they are called, you can also travel on trams, rather than walking along noisy and crowded streets in the heat.

The boats here are smaller, very small and look just like boats, with benches inside. The ticket costs just as much less.
