Alley of Leaders, Cup of Love, Bottle, Chucha - these names are known to more than one generation of divers.

Best time for diving in Crimea

Diving in Crimea is diving in the Black Sea. But don’t let the word “black” scare you; it stuck to our sea, most likely due to a misunderstanding. In fact, it is warm, transparent and affectionate. The Mediterranean climate of Crimea provides a beach season from May to October, and makes diving year-round. Judge for yourself:

Flora and fauna of the Black Sea off the coast of Crimea

The underwater world of the Crimean Black Sea is, of course, not as diverse as undersea world southern tropical seas, but we also have something to see. Found off the coast of Crimea.

Underwater coastline landscapes Crimean peninsula so diverse and diverse that they are of interest not only for beginners, but also for trained divers. The mysterious labyrinths and piles of rocks formed by tectonic faults, as well as all kinds of wrecks that have lain on the seabed for hundreds of years, attract fans of active recreation like a magnet.

The most impressive underwater beauties of the Crimean peninsula:

diver

The coastal strip of Cape Fiolent is famous for its truly picturesque harbours, fjords, grottoes and caves. The local rocks are made of yellow and gray limestone - they say that this is why the Tatars called this place “Tiger Cape”. Crystal clear water allows you to see all the beauty of the seabed.

Particularly interesting are the grotto of Diana (depth 12 m), as well as the bases of the rocks Orestes and Pilate. Fish scurry carelessly among the wreckage of ancient ships, hermit crabs and crabs hide in rock crevices. However, divers need to keep in mind: the area is characterized by fairly strong currents.

At the very edge of the Crimean peninsula - on Cape Chersonesos - there is an old lighthouse built in the mid-19th century (it is still in operation). Here begins a vast underwater spit, which is lost into the sea after a few hundred meters. The surrounding underwater world brings divers many discoveries - from airplanes from the Great Patriotic War (submerged, of course), to antique amphorae and pithos. Maximum depth- about 50 m. The current here can be either very weak or very strong.

35 battery

The coastal waters near the monument-museum “Battery 35” also contain a lot of interesting things. In the stones - at a depth of 8-25 m - you can see shells, cannonballs, weapons. There is also a sunken ship here - divers can not only view it from the outside, but also try to explore it from the inside.

Cape Aya

The cape located near Balaklava is famous for its many underwater beauties. Coastal landscapes in these places are strewn with piles of boulders of the most bizarre shapes (depth of occurrence - 6-8 m). At the same time, a rock hangs dangerously over the “inhabitants” of the seabed, be it picturesque fish with crabs or swimmers looking for impressions - divers call it a “cornice”. In the depths of the nine-meter-high Catherine Grotto, an underwater freshwater spring flows, forming an interesting halocline effect caused by the mixing of salt and fresh water. The decoration of the Dragon Cave (depth - 20 m) is an unusual stone, similar in shape to the head of a fierce dragon. And at Cape Aya, divers can enjoy the landscapes of the Lost World, where a whole “scattering” of impressive stones and grottoes is concentrated (depth - about 18 m).

Cape Tarkhankut

In these places, the Crimean coast simply amazes with its extraordinary and wild beauty. Coastline replete with all kinds of grottoes, arches, coves and tiny niches. Bizarre rocks either rise 40 m above the sea, or fall straight to its surface. The coast is optimal for diving: there are over 30 dive sites. On the seabed near Cape Tarkhankut rest the ships “Varna”, “Volgo-Don”, “Tsarevich Alexey Nikolaevich” (depth - up to 60 m). Here you can also find the underwater “Alley of Leaders”, Neptune’s Grotto, “The Unboring Garden of Divers” and more.

New World

Near the New World, the nature of Crimea is amazing not only above, but also under water (the depth of the local beauty is 12-18 m). Beginners prefer to dive in Zelenaya Bay. The bottom here is sandy, the terrain is not difficult, and the remains of ancient ships appear to the attention of an inquisitive diver. But Razboinichya (Blue) Bay awaits more experienced explorers. These places are decorated not only with the remains of pirate schooners, but also with a truly picturesque underwater world - and from here you can “leak” into an underground freshwater lake. The most beautiful Blue Bay famous for its unforgettable “sea gardens” and harsh stone blocks.

In fact, the rivers of the Crimean Peninsula are truly amazing. All together and each individually is a story behind which lies the life of both individual people and the country as a whole. For example, the steamship Lenin (ex-Simbirsk) rests near Cape Sarych; it sank in July 1941. Along with the ship, about 900 passengers also died. And in terms of the number of victims, this disaster is quite comparable to the tragedy of the notorious Titanic. In the coastal waters of Crimea, priceless relics from the times of the First World War, the Great Patriotic War, and Crimean War. And even though you won’t see colorful corals and nimble, colorful fish here, the Black Sea wrecks have their own austere beauty and solemnity.

Ivan Popov with an article about interesting underwater objects of Crimea. Objects, diving to which, every diving enthusiast will receive a considerable dose of exciting impressions.

I won’t beat around the bush, but will immediately give the floor to Ivan...

On the Crimean peninsula there are many interesting places for relax. Here you can find castles, natural monuments, and museums. This is where people come for the amazing treasures of the deep sea.

Diving in Crimea is vivid impressions, both for professionals and for beginners. Almost anywhere on the peninsula there is a dive center, whose experienced instructors will be happy to show you many monuments of past centuries hidden under water.

Experienced divers combine savage relaxation with interesting dives. So where should you definitely dive in Crimea?

Ship "Varna"

Diving in Crimea is always interesting, especially when it comes to sunken ships.

The Bulgarian ship "Varna" attracts every year huge number divers of various levels of training to the village of Popovka. Undoubtedly, it will be interesting to study this historical monument on your own.

During World War II, the ship Varna transported guns and ammunition across the Black Sea for the needs of the German army. In the area of Cape Tarkhankut, the ship was attacked by a Soviet submarine. Two fired shells pierced the Varna's skin and hit the ammunition compartment, which led to an explosion. The ship sank, breaking into two parts.

The ship is well preserved. The hull, deck and bow of the Varna with its anti-aircraft gun remained virtually unchanged. The stern part came off from the explosion and lies nearby. Divers are free to explore the ship, which is already covered in barnacles and growths.

Underwater monument to Cousteau

In 2010, in honor of the centenary of the birth of the great oceanographer and scuba inventor Jacques Cousteau, an unusual underwater monument was opened.

60 meters from the coast of the city of Alushta there is a granite slab with the profile of an oceanologist and words of gratitude from everyone who uses his invention.

The location was chosen symbolically: Jacques Cousteau himself was in this city and took part in a deep diving competition held in 1968.

For divers, the monument has become something of a shrine. Entire galleries and labyrinths of stones lead to the attraction, through which anyone can swim with pleasure. The bottom of the entire road to the monument is strewn with multi-colored pebbles of various sizes. The dive site itself is simply created for diving, and people who decide to dive for the first time should start there.

Not far from the coast there are many diving centers, places for renting wetsuits and scuba gear. You can hire an instructor who will supervise your dive.

The ship "Jean Jaurès"

Fans of extreme diving should visit the French cargo ship Jean Jaurès, which sank in 1942.

The 112-meter giant, during the Kerch-Feodosia operation by Soviet troops, ran into a German mine and, together with all the cargo and crew on board, sank to the bottom. Most of explosives remained in the hold and pose a serious threat to anyone who wants to explore the ship.

It often happened that other ships collided with the Jean Jaurès lying at shallow depths, so it was fenced off with buoys. Every year, local divers lay flowers at the ship in memory of the lost ships.

"Jean Jaurès" is well preserved, despite serious damage. Almost all the portholes and ammunition boxes are intact. Unfortunately, the ship is gradually sinking into the silt, and may soon disappear completely under it.

Those people who are interested in seeing this historical monument are recommended to visit it as soon as possible. Diving in Crimea, especially off the coast of Feodosia, where many objects rest (including the steamship Tsarevich Alexei, which sank at the beginning of the last century), is rapidly gaining popularity.

Tarkhankut is one of the most popular diving spots. In addition to all sorts of labyrinths, underwater caves and tempting grottoes, colorful marine life, you can visit the famous “Alley of Leaders”. It presents busts of the most famous rulers and small copies of monuments.

Many will probably remember these landscapes. It was here that the famous Soviet films “Pirates of the 20th Century” and “Amphibian Man” were filmed.

Diving in Crimea is designed for people of different skill levels. There are interesting diving spots for beginners and professionals alike.

And on this pleasant note we will end today’s story about the underwater objects of Crimea. I hope that Ivan will continue to please us in the future. useful information about the Crimean Peninsula in general and diving in particular, so don’t forget to subscribe to blog updates.

Thank you for your attention. Bye.
