Phi Phi Island - photos and reviews about the excursion to Maya Bay. Phi Phi Island: heaven on earth or just another tourist trap

And hundreds of thousands of other legs: now excursion groups are brought to the island from Phi Phi Don, and from Phuket, and from all the beaches of Krabi - an endless stream of jam-packed boats.
The only way to be there in relative solitude is to rent a boat yourself early in the morning and sail to Phi Phi Ley at least by eight. Then, for a couple of hours, diligently looking around at the same lucky people, it’s really not difficult to imagine yourself in heaven.

All covered with greenery, absolutely all!..

The water has some crazy colors, the rocks... well, you have to see it.

The madhouse begins after ten.
We jumped up before dawn and would have arrived earlier if it weren’t for the damn Gazza rain. I won’t say it was serious, but something was drizzling lazily, getting on my nerves. The sky was thick and we could only guess what surprises the weather could throw at us. But at about 11 o'clock it suddenly became a little blue - there is justice in life - and headlong we rushed after the boat.

I didn’t care about money anymore, so, having bargained purely for the sake of decency, literally in a few minutes we were already sailing to Pi-Pi Lei, who had been an eyesore for me for three days.

I knew how full Maya Bay would be, but, to be honest, I didn’t care about it either. Even if we see the island and maybe not in the rain - here it is, a little happiness.

By the way, Garland in “The Beach” described a completely different island - Koh Tao in the Gulf of Thailand. But the curse of Hollywood fell on Pee Pee Lay. Filming took place here:

The “front entrance”, or rather the exit, to Maya Bay costs 200 baht per person. The boatman offered to save money and give us a lift from the opposite direction. We foolishly agreed, then regretted it. But not because it was heated famous Beach by 400 Thai rubles, but because the camera had to be abandoned in the boat. "Back entrance" looked cool:

I had to undress and swim to the stairs. We walked to Maya Bay, hung out - and there were so many people! - looked at camping(you can stay overnight) and returned to our wiry tail to snorkel a little. Maya Bay, by the way, looked surprisingly clean, but for some reason there was no desire to splash around among the boats and people.

On Phi Phi Ley there is snorkeling at every corner and around every turn.

And from a variety of craft.

From time to time it seemed that we were about to run over some enthusiastic snorkeler.

If you noticed nice little coves, you asked the boatman to turn there. They arrived at one and were upset - that’s where it was littered. Damn! Who would dare to defile such beauty?

What the island is a little lucky with is that its vertical cliffs are not conducive to construction.

Now the island is inhabited only by sea swifts, whose nests are collected from rickety bamboo platforms by chaule. We didn’t see any pickers; their busiest time is from February to May.

Another bay of Phi Phi Ley, Phi Le Bay is considered almost the most beautiful in Thailand. Fortunately, not all ships can enter it. Cool place, I recommend it to everyone.

Not far from Phi Le there is a fairly large Viking cave. Of course, there were no Vikings nearby - the cave got its name from rock paintings of all sorts of boats. When we were swimming past, such a wave rose that I hid the camera.

On the way back, our longtail broke - it tried to throw off its tail - and we spent fifteen unforgettable minutes jumping on the waves exactly between Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Lei. We must pay tribute to the boatman, he was able to repair himself without outside help and, in general, all is well that ends well.

Everyone decides for themselves whether to go or not to go to PiPi. It seems to me that the islands are already struggling to cope with the influx of tourists and it will only get worse. But if you go, it’s better not to go with one day excursion for four hours, or at least for a couple of days. Then the impressions will be somewhat different.

We had a great time at Pipi for four days and it was time to move on. The next day someone arrived at our little hotel,

And as some information:
1. Map of Phi Phi Islands:

2. The boat to Phi Phi Lei cost us one and a half thousand, but we took it near the hotel, and it’s expensive there and you can’t really bargain.
3. It is much cheaper (but not better) to buy an excursion; it costs from 300 baht and above - it all depends on the size of the craft, the tour program and the included services. Some tours include 200 baht for Maya Bay, some will take you to the same stairs we climbed. If you choose a full-day excursion, you will be fed lunch. There are excursions combined with Bambu or with an overview of Phi Phi Don (monkey beach and long beach). But, in my opinion, the only sensible offer is the “sunset snork” when you arrive at Maya Bay after lunch - by this time most of them are heading home in orderly rows or heading to Phi Phi Don.
4. The only ferry to Ao Nang (via Railay) this year departed from Pipei at 15-30. The issue price is 350 baht. What’s nice is that the ferry ticket includes a transfer to any hotel in Ao Nang.

Well, that’s probably all about Phi Phi. :))

In April, I visited everyone’s favorite Phi Phi Islands, where the movie “The Beach” was filmed. This time I went without Slava, since he had already visited the island 3 years ago from Phuket. I’ll also add his photo to the article so that you have a better idea of this place. My mother and I bought an excursion and happily went on a sea voyage.

Phi Phi

Phi Phi Islands: on your own or with a tour

Initially we thought of going on our own. We wanted to stay in Maya Bay all day. But, as it turned out, for this you need to either rent a small boat for 6-8 people. Price independent trip for a longtail boat it will be about 10 thousand baht. It's ok with a group, but a little expensive for two.

The second option is to take a ferry to the island for an overnight stay. And from the embankment you can already get to Maya Bay by water taxi - longtail boats at a normal price. Overnight, because the ferry runs only in the morning.

Hotels near Phi Phi Don >>

This option also did not suit us, since an overnight stay was not included in our plans. The excursion sellers did not answer us anything intelligibly about the trip on their own, they shrugged their shoulders and offered an excursion, which we eventually took.

Excursion to Phi Phi: reviews

For 1000 baht with bargaining, we purchased an excursion from a street travel agency and went to the islands, visiting lagoons and other nearby islands along the way. We were immediately warned that we would only be at Maya Bay for 45 minutes. Well, there's not much choice, just 45 minutes on one of the most beautiful islands in Thailand! So little! But I really wanted my mother to have a lot of impressions. After all, living in Krabi and not visiting PhiPhi is the same as coming from France without seeing the Eiffel Tower.

And mom has a blast in Krabi

We started at 8 am from Noparatara beach in Krabi. On the way to the islands, those interested can go snorkeling.

Ko Phi Phi Ley Island

And here it is! Stunningly beautiful desert island Phi Phi Lay. These islands suffered greatly from the earthquake that shook the entire Indian Ocean tsunami in December 2004, but now everything is fine. Perhaps Maya Bay has the most beautiful beach from all the islands. Further in this review I will use photos from my trip with my mother and Slavina’s photos from a previous visit to Pi-Pi.

The famous Maya Bay

Where can I order a transfer from the airport?

We use the service - KiwiTaxi
We ordered a taxi online and paid by card. We were met at the airport with a sign with our name on it. We were taken to the hotel in a comfortable car. You've already talked about your experience In this article

Phi Phi Beach

Maya Bay beach is very small. You know who spoils all the beauty? We are tourists. Yes, no matter how rude it may sound, but There are so many tourists that it’s impossible to fully enjoy the beauty. Very noisy and crowded, they bring food every minute new excursion and take away the old one. Everyone is taking pictures and running up and down the beach because they only have 40 minutes of time.

Phi Phi Beach crowded with tourists

Speedboats are out of place. Blocking the already small swimming space

The helicopter was still missing

How wonderful it can be there if you find yourself alone. For a few seconds I closed my eyes and imagined that all the people had disappeared, so that I could feel at least a glimpse of the place where I had long wanted to find myself.

And as soon as I opened my eyes, I plunged into the harsh reality with buzzing motor boats, screaming guides, crowds of people taking pictures of each other, children jumping in the water and crowds of Chinese. Slava was luckier in his time; in the next photo you can imagine that he was alone on the island

What PhiPhi looks like without tourists

We weren't able to have that much privacy. I kept trying to take good photos without strangers, but the bay was so small and crowded with tourists that then I gave up and my mother and I took turns running from one end of the beach to the other in order to have time to take at least a photo of ourselves against the backdrop of the wonderful views.

And we arrived in April, when the season in Thailand was already ending. What's going on here in high season, in December-January, I’m scared to imagine. Time flew by instantly. Saturated with emotions from both tourists and Maya Bay, we moved on

Maya Bay beach

Photos from a trip in May. There are significantly fewer tourists here during the low season

Walk deep into the island

Of course, it’s very disappointing that so little time is given. Ideally, you need at least 3 hours to enjoy this wonderful tropical island. But if you don’t linger anywhere, you can have time to run around the island to another bay. This walk will take about 20 minutes. Here's what you can see:

The path goes through the landscaped jungle with dizzying views

Phi Phi video

Video from an excursion to Maya Bay, the island of phiphi don and the view from the observation deck.

Fortunately, due to some remoteness and isolation from civilization, you, the bay, will not be so easily spoiled by exhaust fumes, garbage and cigarette butts in the sand. Although, more and more tourists come every year.

Live bay - you are beautiful!

Phi Phi hotels

If you want to come to Phi Phi on your own, you will need to stay overnight. There are hotels of different price categories on Phi Phi Island. The choice of accommodation is wide, from budget bungalows with a fan to luxury resorts with a swimming pool. Just keep in mind that there are no hotels in Maya Bay itself, all of them are on the neighboring island of Ko Phi Phi Don, and you can get to the bay by boat in 15-20 minutes.

The Phi Phi Islands are one of the most beautiful and at the same time one of the most controversial islands in Thailand.

Stunningly beautiful nature, fantastically beautiful rocks, beaches and bays, but at the same time great amount tourists from all over the world. And in any season :)

Someone falls in love with them and their unique atmosphere at first sight, like me :) And someone cannot understand what other people see in them, because there are so many people there...

So, let's start with the fact that there are two Phi Phi islands. These are Phi Phi Don Island and Phi Phi Ley Island. And take a closer look at the map of Phi Phi Island

Phi Phi Don Island very beautiful, inhabited and very touristic with hotels, bars, restaurants and nightlife.

And the island of Phi-Phi-Leh (Phi-Phi-Leh)- fantastically beautiful and completely uninhabited, except for the moment when a huge number of tourists are brought there on various boats and ships.

And it was on the island of Pi-Pi-Lei in Maya Bay that the film “The Beach” was filmed:

Day excursions to the Phi Phi Islands are organized from Phuket and Krabi. And you can go on such a tour.

But in my opinion The best way getting to know the islands means living on Pi-Pi-Don Island for 3-4 days. And from the island of Pi-Pi-Don, sail to the island on Pi-Pi-Lei for a day or half a day.

By the way, at one time we arrived for 1 night, but the island captivated us so much that we ended up staying there for 4 full days and didn’t want to leave at all.

How to get to Phi Phi Don Island?

You can sail either from the island of Phuket or from the province of Krabi. The distance to the island is about 40 km and the boat will sail for about 2 hours. Tickets can be purchased at any travel agency. The cost is about 300 rubles (10 dollars). As far as I remember, boats sail back and forth twice a day.

How to get to Phi Phi Lei Island?

Buy an excursion to this island and go there for a whole day or half a day by boat.

Or rent a longtail boat (long-tail boat) and go to the islands on your own with a boatman, in which case it makes sense to set off as early as possible in the morning to visit Maya Bay before it is filled with crowds of tourists.

Beaches of Pi-Pi-Don Island.

About 90 percent of tourists who arrive on Phi Phi Don island stay on the isthmus between the two beaches of Ton Sai Bay and Loh Dalam Bay.

All entertainment, shops, restaurants, bars and nightlife centers are concentrated here. This isthmus is 500 meters wide and 3-4 kilometers long. By the way, people mostly walk here and sometimes ride bicycles. So the area is almost completely pedestrian.

Thong Sai Bay - main beach, where ships with travelers sail and from where long-tailed boats sail to neighboring beaches that cannot be reached by land. You can’t really swim in the center of the beach - there is a kingdom of boats here, but if you go left or right, you can swim quite well.

Lo Dalam Bay- the beach on the other side of the isthmus is quite nice and cute, with clean water, almost all vacationers on the isthmus swim there.

The only negative for my taste of this beach is that it is quite small and the tides on it are very strong and the water goes 100-200 meters away. And the beach starts to look like this:

We experienced this very well ourselves when we kayaked to the nearby Monkey Beach, and when we returned, the shore became much closer to us :)

And we even had to drag the kayak a little deep in the water - until the kayak owners saw us and came to our aid :)

Monkey Beach— you can reach it by kayak from Loh Dalam Bay (this beach will be on the left on the course behind the cape), it is also part of excursion program some of the pleasure boats that sail around the island. Bring bananas and pineapples (in pieces) for the monkeys, and please do not feed them Coca-Cola. They love her very much, but this does not lead to good things. Instead of slender and agile animals, they become carcasses like this:

Long Beach- a beautiful beach with white sand and clear water, it can only be reached by boat from Thong Sai Bay. The cost is about 150 rubles (5 dollars). Since it is impossible to reach it, there are many more vacationers on it. And in general it’s very nice... You can easily spend the whole day.

On the western and northern sides of the island there are several more very cool beaches, which can be reached by water on longtail boats, and on which secluded hotels are located, for tourists who prefer tranquility, solitude and nature.

What to do and must-sees on Phi Phi Don Island?

Be sure to go to Phi Phi Ley Island (Maya Bay) on a boat for a day or half a day (to watch the sunset) and see with your own eyes the bay from the movie “The Beach”

And also enjoy the stunning beauty of the rocks and sheltered bays of this stunning island, and of course, swim to your heart’s content in the stunningly clear and beautiful water:

Be sure to climb observation deck(View Point). The view from the lookout on the island is simply stunning, and I am sure that you will want to stay there for a long time, enjoying the beauty of nature and the island.

The climb to View Point takes about 40 minutes and is not at all tiring.

Take a longtail bot ( long tale boat) to rent and tour around the island, with stops at different beaches. Or at least take a boat like this to Long Beach

What else can you do? :)

Go diving— there are a huge number of companies on the island that offer this exciting activity.

Practice rock climbing— there are several offices on the island that offer fans of this wonderful sport to conquer several rocks on the island.

Rent a kayak and paddle on Monkey Beach, feed the monkeys and soak up the white sand.

Where to stay on Phi Phi Don Island?

It primarily depends on what exactly you want.

The most tourist place on Phi Phi Don is the isthmus between the beaches of Ton Sai Bay and Lo Dalam Bay. 90 percent of all visitors to the island stop here, and there are always a lot of tourists here.

And in the daytime there are even more of them due to tourists who stop by Pi-Pi-Don for a couple of hours on the way to Pi-Pi-Lei Island.

But at the same time, despite a large number of people, this place has a place and some kind of indescribable charm that kept us on the island on this isthmus for as many as 3 additional days :) So you, too, can easily find a place in the sun and to your liking.

But if you want peace of mind, beautiful nature and solitude and crystal clear water, then you need to choose a hotel on one of the remote beaches, which you can only get to by boat.

And if you want, they can take you on a boat to the area of Ton Sai Bay and the Isthmus, so you can feel the atmosphere :)

By the way, according to my feelings, prices on the island of Phi Phi Don are about 30-50 percent higher than, for example, in Phuket or Krabi. And most likely you will not be able to find a hotel or guesthouse costing less than 1200-1500 rubles (40-50 dollars).

You can choose and book a hotel on Phi Phi Island, for example, through my favorite service online booking booking.com. Or simply enter Phi Phi in the field below and indicate the dates you need.

Have a pleasant and unforgettable adventure and travel! If you have any questions, write in the comments.

Success and good luck!

Elena!! Congratulations on the birth of your son!! All the best and brightest to you!! All the best to your family and God's blessings!!

Thank you very much for your congratulations! And may your dreams come true as soon as possible :)!

Helen, hello. Finally we are here!!
Including on your recommendation, we read your blog, talked to you - and wanted to.
Really beautiful island! We swam on Pi-Pi Lei and climbed Mount View point - great experience!!! Tomorrow we are heading to Krabi.
And we lived near the Lo Dalam Bay beach - we liked it better by the way - it’s quieter :)

Cool! I am very glad that you are already in Thailand and your journey has begun!
I’m also very glad that you liked it on Pi-Pi :)! Now I wish you a bright and unforgettable trip to Krabi!
By the way, what was your final planned route?

Lena, good evening! Please tell us your travel route.
We were in Phuket last year through a travel agency, so we decided to organize everything ourselves and go at the end of May.
The idea is this: first fly to Bangkog, there for 3 days, then to Samui, for 5 days (but it’s confusing that it can be rainy there at the end of May), then maybe Krabi? What do you recommend, the whole trip is for 20 days, and how best to get around, where by plane, where you can get there anyway, thank you very much in advance for your help)))

Good afternoon, Dasha! You have an excellent route emerging :) It’s quite possible to go Bangkok-Samui-Krabi, if you want, then from Samui you can go to the islands of Koh Phangan for a couple of days ( Koh Phangan) or Tao (Koh Tao) And from Krabi for a couple of days to Phi Phi, unless of course you were. Or to Koh Lanta Island. And it’s better to leave 1 more day at the end of the trip to Bangkok, just in case, in case of force majeure during flights.
As for travel and flights, Bangkok is Samui is better by plane, for Samui - Krabi you can choose the ferry + bus option and buy these tickets already at a travel agency on the island, the journey will take 5-6 hours. You can also fly by plane - the flight is 50 minutes :) Krabi - Bangkok can be flown by low-cost airline AirAsia.com.
As for the weather, judging by historical data, at the end of May the probability of rain is higher in Krabi than in Koh Samui. Therefore, I recommend booking hotels without prepayment, and if there is very heavy rain somewhere, then adjust the route already on the spot.

Elena good evening! Please tell me, now in Thailand we came from Samui to Krabi, there is heavy rain, we didn’t expect this, we have 5 days of rest left, we don’t want to sit in the room, where can we wave, so that then it’s not far to get to Bangkok, we’re flying home from there )???where should there be less rain now?

    Dasha, good evening!
    You can do 3 things:
    1) Ask locals, for example, the staff at the hotel where the sea is now good weather and where they would recommend going closer to Bangkok.
    2) Return back to Samui, or rather to one of the two neighboring islands of Koh Phangan or Koh Tao, as far as I understand, the weather is good on Samui now, which means on Tao and Phangan too.
    3) Go to Pattaya, and from there, for example, during the day, sail to the nearest islands of Koh Lan and Koh Samet. The weather there seems to be almost always normal, but again, it’s better to check with the locals. Again, Pattaya is closest to Bangkok...
Good luck to you and I hope there is good weather in the next 5 days wherever you go!

Lena, thank you, we’ll think about the options, then I’ll definitely write back))

Hello! We read your articles. Everything is written in detail and clearly.
We will be from September 20 to October 2 in Malaysia and Bangkok.
I would like to ask you. How to get to Phi Phi from Langkawi?
And how to go through customs and passport control when traveling by water
transport from Langkawi to Phi Phi?
Thank you. I hope for your comprehensive answer, since on other sites you are no one
    does not describe details.

    Batyr, good afternoon!

As far as I understand, the only way to get from Langkawi to Phi Phi by water is through the Thai island of Koh Lipe. But the navigation is not there all year round open. Only from November to May, so in September you will not be able to do this: (Because at this time it is the rainy season and the sea is often stormy.

Therefore, most likely you will have to fly by plane - Langkawi - Kuala Lumpur - Phuket (Krabi)

If you still describe this path by water, it will turn out something like this:

Ferries go to Koh Lipe from Langkawi, or rather speed-boat (speed boat) costing about $40. Travel time is about 1.5 hours.

And from Koh Lipe you can sail to Phi Phi on a Thai ferry. But as far as I understand, this is a very long time. 6-7 hours and many stops, since after all, Langkawi and Phi Phi are far from each other. Tickets will need to be purchased at a travel agency in Lipa. The cost is somewhere around 2000-2500 baht (70-80 $)

Customs control, as I understand it, will look like this. At the port of Langkawi you will give your passports to a special person. He will stamp them. And they will sail with him to Lipe. And in Lipa, after they are stamped by the Thai side, they will be given to you.

    Elena, good day!
    Very useful information!
Please tell me what are the prices for food on Phi Phi Island?
    Thank you in advance!

    Good afternoon, Veronica!
On Phi Phi, prices are 30 percent higher than, for example, on Phuket and Krabi. And they vary greatly depending on the level of the establishment. And they start from about 150-200 baht for lunch - main course plus fruit shake.

Elena, good afternoon! Thanks for such a useful article!! I have been tormented by this question for several days now, I am 4 months pregnant and at the end of November we are flying to the island. Phuket, we dream of visiting the Phi Phi Islands... We can get to Phi Phi Don without any problems in my situation by ferry, if I understand correctly - there is no shaking on the way??? But from Phi Don to Phi Phi Ley, is there any kind of transport so that it doesn’t “shake” along the way??? Or is it better to send your friends on a one-day excursion to Phi Phi Ley and stay in Phukta yourself???

    Elena, good afternoon!
I am very glad that you liked the article and found it useful.
About your question. It’s very difficult to give a definite answer here... I can only say about myself:) I would most likely go, but only if the sea is calm. Because I love sea trips and don’t get seasick :) But if the sea is not calm, I wouldn’t risk it. Therefore, it is probably better to decide on the spot. Depending on the state of the sea and your well-being. One day excursion too a good option. If everyone else likes it, then there will be a reason to return to Phi Phi Don for longer with your baby :) Have a wonderful trip!

Good afternoon We will be vacationing in Krabi (Ao Nang) in mid-February. We really want to visit the Phi Phi Islands. A dilemma arose - either buy an excursion from an agency for 2 days and 1 night (for example, http://www.phuket-cheap-tour.ru/phi-phi.php) or get from Krabi yourself on a longtail and move around all of them in the same way. these islands (Don and Lei). How much does it cost to ship from island to island? After Krabi we go to Phuket and dream of going to Similan for 2 days. So we are thinking about which of the two options (Phi Phi or Similan) to spend more time, money and effort on. We are waiting for advice.))

Hello! Tell me how to get from Krabi (or Ao Nang) to Langkawi, then to Phi Phi and back to Krabi? Aircraft excluded. And could Kuala Lumpur fit in somewhere along the way? Again, all without planes (only buses and ferries or speedboats). It takes 9 days to do everything about everything. Please don’t leave us without attention, help us with the details. Thank you for being.

    Olga, good afternoon!
Unfortunately, I only now noticed your comment. And my answer will most likely no longer be relevant for you :(
But I’ll answer anyway :) I would go from Krabi to Phi Phi on my own, only by ferry - and not by longtail. And she lived there for several days. The cost of the ferry is now about 350 baht. But it’s quite possible to ride around the Phi Phi Islands on a longtail. But I can’t give you an idea of the rental price. Or buy a boat tour from Phi Phi Don to Phi Phi Ley.
We haven’t reached the Similan Islands yet, but if you are interested in diving, then I think it’s better to allocate more time, effort and money to the Similan Islands :)
    Have a wonderful trip!

    Katya, good afternoon!
You can get from Krabi to Langkawi as follows: first swim to the Thai island of Koh Lipe. And from there you can take a ferry to Langkawi. According to reviews, Lipe Island is a very pleasant place and you can easily stay there for a couple of days. And on the way back from Lipe to Phi Phi, you can also make a stop on the island of Lanta. If there is time. Just keep in mind that the complete transfer from Krabi to Langkawi and back to Phi Phi will take almost the entire day.
Look at the website of this ferry company - http://tigerlinetravel.com/ There you can see all the routes you are interested in, the cost and duration of the journey. As well as a description of the route and types of transport. Since, for example, from Krabi you will first need to go by bus. And only then on the ferry.
But Kuala Lumpur is more than 400 km away :) Stopping along the way won’t work :)

    Elena, good afternoon!
Thank you so much for your articles, very detailed and interesting!
My husband and I want to go to Thailand at the end of April - beginning of May for 2 weeks, I want privacy and have a relaxing holiday. We chose a hotel on Phi Phi Island, Pak Nam Beach, but since we are going to Thailand for the first time and have not previously traveled on our own, only through tour operators, we have no idea how to organize an independent transfer. Elena, please share your invaluable experience - tell us the best and easiest way for us to get from Moscow to the chosen beach, and if possible, advise, maybe it’s better to stay in Krabi if there are quiet, secluded beaches there? Thank you very much in advance!!!

    Irina, good afternoon!
Glad you like my articles. So, as for self-transfer to Phi Phi. You need: 1) Fly from Moscow to Phuket (Transaero and Aeroflot fly non-stop), 2) in Phuket, buy a ferry ticket from Phuket to Phi Phi at any travel agency with transfer to the pier from your hotel (most likely you should also book a hotel for 1 night in Phuket). At the pier of Phi Phi Island, contact the agency and ask to be sent to the selected hotel. You may need to go there by boat. You can also contact the selected hotel in advance and ask them to meet you at Phuket airport (perhaps this option also exists).
In Krabi, if you need privacy and silence, I would settle on Railay Beach - but you can only get there by boat.

Hi all! My name is Natalya. I was looking at your site because I have a business trip to this place soon. fairyland. And in general, this is my first trip abroad. I'm flying to Thailand in September. I really love warm regions and a lot of sun, because... Southern girl herself southern capital Russia - Astrakhan. I want to scout out the situation on a business trip, so to speak, and then fly with my family on vacation.

Good day, Natalia! I wish you bright and unforgettable trip!

Hello Elena! Please tell me, we have booked a hotel for Long Beach, I understand that you can only get there by boat, but how often do they go there? And where is the place from where these boats sail? And also, is 2 half days enough to see all the surroundings?

    Evgenia, good afternoon!

Yes, you can only get there by boat. They sail close to the main pier. Go to the nearest travel agency and they will tell you how to get there. At one time we went to the agency, they called the boatman and he answered the two of us there. Without any schedule. Or write to your hotel and arrange a meeting (transfer) with them.

2 half days is not so much :) I would devote at least 3-4 days to these islands. But if it only takes 2 days, then you can try in 2 :)

Hello! I will be in Phuket in March and decided to spend 2 nights in Phi Phi. The hotel has already been booked. We are planning to go island hopping the next day after our arrival. I don’t really want to take an excursion, since they control the daily routine there, and I wouldn’t want that. We decided that we would need to rent a boat ourselves. We want to visit Phi-Phi Lay, Bamboo island, Mosquito island, Monkey beach. We are planning a walk of at least 6 hours. Question - how much will it cost to rent a boat for this time? And with whom to negotiate? Just approach any boatman on the pier?

Hello Elena! We took trips to Phuket at the end of March and really want to go to Phi Phi from there to live for a week. My question is that we eat with two sons, 9 and 6 years old, do you think this is normal? Are there any children there at all? Otherwise you get the impression that people only travel there without children. Should I take any medications just in case? And I’m also wondering if it would be okay to go with them to the luminous plankton to look at Maya Bay?

Svetlana, good afternoon! I think the kids will have a great time on Pee Pee. Just like in any other place where there is a sea :) We saw travelers on Pi-Pi even with babies :) So feel free to go with the whole family :) And on excursions too. If this Boat trip- then there are life jackets :) Take the medications that you usually use at home :)

Good afternoon, Oleg. Current prices I don't know about renting a boat. But there it is quite normal practice to rent a boat for a few hours or a day. I would approach the boatmen at the pier or nearby tourist agency(they also know boatmen :)) and talked to them about the price and conditions. Have a bright and unforgettable trip!

Elena, good afternoon! Thank you for an interesting and useful resource!
I am planning a trip to Thailand (to Phuket) in early November for 11 nights.
I’m traveling on my own and want to spend 4 days in Phuket (on the beaches of Kata and Karon), then go to Phi Phi for 3-4 days and then to Krabi province for 3 days with a return closer to Phuket airport.
Please tell me how much good route? Looking for a calm and relaxing holiday.
And what's the best way to get around?

Pavel, good afternoon! Excellent route, this is exactly what happened to us during the first independent travel to Thailand :) You will need to travel by Phuket-Phi-Phi and Phi-Phi-Krabi ferries and by Krabi-Phuket bus. You can buy tickets on the spot. Have a wonderful trip!

    Thank you, Elena!

    Good afternoon.
My wife and I were on this island for one night a year ago. I really liked it. In November we bought a ticket for 2 weeks back to Phi Phi, Outrigger Hotel. Please tell me how much a long tail costs from the pier to the hotel, and is it possible to rent or buy a taxi and ferry tickets on the website in advance? So that they would meet us with tickets.
    Thank you.

Anton, good afternoon! I think you'd better write or call your hotel and see if they can arrange a transfer from the pier to your hotel. If not, find out how much a long tail will cost from the marina.

Good afternoon Thank you for helping people find information)) we need help too! We are going to Thailand in September, at the beginning. We don't know what to prefer. I want a quiet place with a paradise beach, especially without rain, but so that it is convenient to go on excursions.. please tell me which island to pay attention to

    Julia, good afternoon!
It rains a lot in September. Probably at this time a little better weather in the Gulf of Thailand. For example on Koh Samui, Koh Phangan or Tao.

A travel agency offers a 10-day trip to Phi Phi Don Island. The tour turns out to be much cheaper than the “savages”, even though it was such a dream. We won’t get bored there? Or should we fly to Phuket as standard?

Good afternoon, Rufina. Difficult question :) It depends on what kind of vacation you prefer. As a last resort, it will be possible to go to Phuket for a couple of days from Phi Phi. If civilization really wants it :)

One can only guess what kind of paradise Phi Phi Ley was like until DiCaprio set foot there.

All covered with greenery, absolutely all... :))

I didn’t care about money anymore, so, after haggling solely for the sake of decency, literally a few minutes later we sailed to Pi-Pi Lei, who had been an eyesore for three days.

I knew what a full house we would see at Maya Bay, but, to be honest, I didn’t care about it either. Even if we see you and maybe not in the rain - here it is, a little happiness.

But not because they heated up the famous Beach for 400 Thai rubles, but because they had to leave the camera in the boat. The "back door" looked cool:

I had to undress and swim to the stairs. We walked to Maya Bay, hung out - and there were so many people! - we looked at the tent camp (those who wish can stay overnight) and returned to their fidgety tail to snorkel. Maya Bay, by the way, seemed surprisingly clean, but there was no desire to splash among the boats and people.

There are snorkelers on Pee Pee Lea at every corner and around every turn.

And from a variety of craft.

From time to time I had the feeling that we were about to run over some enthusiastic snorkeler.

Another bay of Phi Phi Lei, Phi Le Bay is considered almost the most beautiful in Thailand. Fortunately, not all ships can enter it. Cool place, I recommend it to everyone.

Not far from Pi Le there is a fairly large Viking cave. Of course, there were no Vikings nearby - the cave got its name from rock paintings of all sorts of boats. When we were swimming past, such a wave rose that I hid the camera.

On the way back, our longtail broke - it tried to throw off its tail - and we spent fifteen unforgettable minutes jumping on the waves exactly between Pee-Pee Don and Pee-Pee Lay. We must pay tribute to the boatman, he was able to repair himself without outside help and, in general, all is well that ends well.

Whether or not to go to Phi Phi is up to everyone to decide for themselves. It seems to me that the islands are already struggling to cope with the influx of tourists and it will only get worse. But if you go, it’s better not with a one-day excursion for four hours, but at least for a couple of days. Then the impressions will be somewhat different.

We had a great time at Pipi for four days and it was time to move on. The next day someone arrived at our little hotel,

and we went to Ao Nang.

And as some information:
1. Map of the PiPi Islands:

There are excursions combined with Bambu or with an overview of Pi-Pi Don (Monkey Beach and Long Beach). But, in my opinion, the only sensible offer is the “sunset snork” when you sail to Maya Bay after lunch - by this time most of them are heading back in orderly rows or heading to Phi Phi Don.
4. The only ferry to Ao Nang (via Railay) this year departed from Pipei at 15-30. The issue price is 350 baht. What’s nice is that the ferry ticket includes a transfer to any hotel in Ao Nang.

Well, that’s probably all about Phi Phi. :))

The Phi Phi Islands are a group of small resort islands in the Adaman Sea. Who will like it on Phi Phi

Due to the variety of landscapes and entertainment, excursions to the Phi Phi Islands will appeal to different groups of tourists. The main landscaped island of the archipelago is conventionally divided into several sections, each of which lives its own life.

The most popular place among young people is the beach Loh Dalum. Every evening by the coast Loh Dalum The beach disco lights up, sometimes lasting until dawn. Prices are usually affordable, because holiday on Phi Phi island in the area and is in such high demand.

The other side of the coin is the beach Long Beach. This area contains clean, well-groomed and virtually no nightlife beaches of Phi Phi island. The eastern part of the island will appeal to the “savages”. The beaches here are usually completely deserted, but such solitude is not cheap. Eastern hotels on Phi Phi Island for those who are ready to shell out several hundred dollars a week.

Beaches of Phi Phi Island

Tonsai Beach- the most unkempt beach on the island. Not far from it there is a pier and a ship berth, receiving from the mainland and Phuket. Housing nearby is cheap (read more about), there is some semblance of infrastructure with bars, markets and shops.

Tonsai Beach

Lo Dalam Beach– this is a place where sociable tourists who are not looking for tranquility in their vacation will like it. It is on this beach that the concentration is concentrated. most of Thai nightlife.

Lo Dalam Beach

Long Beach, oddly enough, but one of the quietest beaches on the island. The infrastructure here is not bad, housing prices nearby are also affordable, but at night the place falls asleep; seekers of adventure and noisy discos should choose another place to relax. According to tourists' reviews, this is the best!

Long Beach

Lo Mu Di Beach beautiful and comfortable, but not without its drawbacks. To get to this place you will have to walk and you need to walk about an hour from the nearest settlement.

What to visit on Phi Phi

The main local tourist attractions are snorkeling and. Excursions to neighboring islands archipelago. In general, everything is focused on unity with nature and a healthy lifestyle. There are also nightclubs and bars, but not as many as in Phuket or Bangkok, so avid party-goers rarely choose Phi Phi for a vacation.

Ferries from the mainland and Phuket bring guests to the bay of Tonsai village. There are many souvenir shops and shops with locally produced goods scattered along the embankment; you can also find excursion bureaus here. Next to the pier there is a lift to the observation deck, from which you can enjoy impressive views of the landscapes of the island and the bay. It is convenient to walk from the bay to Long Beach, where there are several cozy cafes offering a large selection of drinks and local dishes.

Climate on the Phi Phi Islands

Phi Phi Island Hotels

If you are not ready to settle in a villa or a small bungalow by the sea, then think twice Is it worth going to the Phi Phi Islands?. There are no high-rise hotel complexes on the archipelago. The most high hotels on Loh Dalum, their height is 2-4 floors. By the way, this is the only option to rent housing not by the sea, but within a 10-15 minute walk from it. All other options are usually very close to the water. Of course, “non-marine” housing is cheaper than a bungalow on the coast; the average cost of a room with a fan and a shared toilet is from 400 baht. You can view all hotel offers and choose the most suitable one on the websites or.

It is clear that the price tag greatly depends on the season. At its peak, the cost of a room increases by 40–50%, which is especially noticeable when renting inexpensive square meters. In August, the room will cost 400 baht, and by February the owner will ask 600–800 baht for it. To save money, it is better to go out of season, but it is important to take into account the possibility of rain, even though it does not happen every day, as well as the disturbance of the sea.

As for booking, it is better to take care of it in advance. The island is not that big and cannot accommodate many guests. It often happens that there is literally not enough space for everyone. This rarely happens with expensive villas, but budget rooms and rooms on Loh Dalum are occupied very quickly and sometimes for a long time. If you don’t want to spend the night on the beach for several days open air While waiting for a room to become available, you should first check the availability of rooms and book them before arriving on Phi Phi Island.
