Boeing 747 400 service life. Other aircraft with similar passenger capacity

Boeing 747-400 (Boeing 747-400) is the most popular modification of the double-deck wide-body Boeing 747 aircraft. It is used mainly for long-haul flights, the flight range is up to 14,200 km. The cabin capacity is up to 624 passengers, depending on the selected layout.

Boeing 747-400 passenger airliners continue to carry passengers in the service of various airlines around the world. The largest operator is British Airways.

The only domestic operator of the Boeing 747-400 is currently Rossiya Airlines, whose fleet includes former aircraft Transaero company. Aeroflot does not have a Boeing 747-400; all plans to purchase these aircraft in the 1980s were never implemented.

Boeing 747-400 layout for Rossiya Airlines

Rossiya's fleet includes 9 Boeing 747-400 aircraft. List of all tail numbers and names of aircraft of this model:

  • "Vladivostok" (EI-XLJ),
  • "Irkutsk" (EI-XLG),
  • "Kazan" (EI-XLH),
  • "Krasnoyarsk" (EI-XLC),
  • "Nizhny Novgorod" (EI-XLF),
  • "Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky" (EI-XLI),
  • "St. Petersburg" (EI-XLE),
  • "Khabarovsk" (EI-XLM),
  • "Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk/Tigrolet" (EI-XLD)

Since the liner is two-story, the numbering seats, as a rule, starts from the top (small) floor. And it is on the top floor that the places are located increased comfort— all business class and several Space+ seats.

Economy class seating is A-ZONE in the bow, several Space+ seats and regular seats.

In addition, there are enough places on board where baby bassinets can be installed (see diagrams).

Only the layout of the EI-XLM board is fundamentally different from the basic one; more about this below - in diagram No. 3.

Boeing 747-400 diagram No. 1: EI-XLC, EI-XLD, EI-XLE, EI-XLH, EI-XLJ

Upper Deck:

  • Rows 1, 2, 3 - business class with 2-2 seating pattern, 12 seats in total;
  • Rows 5 - 9 (attention, row 4 is missing) - 27 Space+ seats (increased legroom compared to regular economy, additional compartments for hand luggage), seating 3-3, last row on deck - 3 seats;
  • Location of toilets: all on the right side, 2 at the beginning of the cabin and 1 at the end.

Main deck (lower):

  • Numbering of rows - from 10 to 71, total seats - 483;
  • Space+ seats: 12 HKL, 14 ABC, 17 EF, 20 DEG HK, 23 DEFG, 31 BC, 34 HKL, 36 DEFG, 44 BC HK, 45 DEFG, 55 BC HKL;
  • Space+ seats (one of the advantages on the lower deck is just more legroom): 12 HKL, 14 ABC, 17 EF, 20 DEG HK, 23 DEFG, 31 BC, 34 HKL, 36 DEFG, 44 BC HK, 45 DEFG, 55 BC HKL;
  • A-ZONE seats (advantage - location in the first sector of economy class according to the 2-2 and 3-3 scheme), are located in rows 10 - 12, 14 - 19 (not all in the rows, marked in blue) - 45 in total;
  • 11 toilets: 1 in front of row 22, 2 behind row 28, 2 at row 43 and 2 at row 44, 4 at the rear of the plane.

The worst seats in economy class are those with limited backrest recline; in regular economy they are 29 AL, 43 AL, 54 AL, 70 BK.

Interesting fact

This is exactly the seating arrangement that was implemented on board the most unusual aircraft of Russia - the Boeing 747-400 Tigrolet. The image of the head of an Amur tiger has been decorating the nose of the aircraft since September 2016; this design was made as part of an environmental project together with the Amur Tiger Center.

Boeing 747-400 diagram No. 2: EI-XLF, EI-XLG, EI-XLI

Upper deck:

  • Rows 1-3 - business class, 12 seats according to the 2-2 scheme;
  • Rows 5-9 are Space+ seats, 29 seats in a 3-3 configuration, but row 9 does not have a seat A.

Lower deck

  • 481 places;
  • Numbering of rows: 10 - 71;
  • Rows 10-19 - A-ZONE seats, except 12 HKL, 14 ABC, 17 EF, 19 EF;
  • Space+ seats: 12 HKL, 14 ABC, 17 EF, 20 DEG, 23 DEFG, 31 BC, 34 HKL, 36 DEFG, 44 BC HK, 45 DEFG, 55 BC HK;
  • 10 toilets: 2 - in the bow at the exits on both sides, 4 - at the exits in the central part (opposite rows 43, 44), 4 - at the end of the cabin.

Worst places - similar to scheme No. 1.

Boeing 747-400 diagram No. 3: EI-XLM

This option is significantly different from the previous ones - both in terms of layout and class, and even in the numbering of seats.

Upper deck:

  • Fully booked business class:
  • Numbering of rows - 5-11;
  • Seating arrangement - 2-2;
  • The total number of places is 22.

Lower deck:

  • 411 places;
  • Rows 1-4 forward: 12 Super Space seats best places on Boeing 747-400 from all Rossiya flights. Features - there is even more space for each passenger than in business class, 70 cm wide seats can be completely folded out into a bed;
  • Space+ seats: 21 KL, 30 BC, 44 BC HK, 55 BC HK;
  • 10 toilets are located as follows: 2 on the left side at the exit in the bow, 4 in the central part of the liner at row 42 and behind it, 4 in the tail.

Since this lower deck layout is very different from the basic ones, the worst places on board (with limited backrest angle) would be: 29 AL, 54 AL, 70 AB KL.

Today “Russia” is one of the few Russian airlines, which operates Boeing 747 aircraft. Rossiya has only 6 Boeing 747-400 aircraft.

The Boeing 747-400 is a very spacious car, unlike the . This is achieved through a two-deck layout. The upper deck is significantly shorter in length than the lower one and creates a kind of hump on the liner. This “trick” has made this aircraft the most recognizable in the world.

Most of the Rossiya aircraft are configured for 522 people. There are also liners with 447 and 461 seats. In this article, however, we will look at the design of an aircraft with 522 seats.

Advantages and disadvantages of the seating arrangement of the Boeing 747-400

Upper deck

Row 1,2,3. These are business class seats. There are no complaints about these places. Everything was done at a decent level. The chairs here can be converted into a full-size bed, and pillows and blankets are provided. The distance between the rows is 1.5 meters - more than enough for a comfortable flight.

Row 5. C this series Economy class starts. These are the best seats on the upper deck (in economy). Due to the lack of a front row, you can freely stretch your legs, unfold the chair and get a good night's sleep. No one will walk past you - only business class is ahead, separated from you by a screen. The distance between rows is about 86 cm.

Row 9. But the seats in the ninth row cannot boast of the performance of the 5th row. They are highlighted in yellow in the diagram. The location of toilets in close proximity does not bode well. High traffic flow past your seat is ensured, especially for seats C and H (the most uncomfortable on the upper deck). Also, some discomfort may be caused by the presence of a passage to the lower deck (it may be cooler).

Lower deck

Rows 10, 11, 12. Some passengers note these seats as the most comfortable in economy class. If you sit here, you create a certain distance from the bulk of passengers, which means it will be quieter here (unless, of course, you come across loud neighbors). The toilets are located at the back, so there is no regular walking past your seat. In addition, there is more space here and the seat backs can be lowered freely. On the diagram these places are marked in green.

Seats between rows 18 and 19(in the middle). Marked in green. They are also the most comfortable due to increased legroom. But the seats next behind (two yellow seats) are not recommended to be booked due to their close location to the toilet. It is also likely that the seat backs do not tip over due to the partition.

Row 22. The presence of a toilet can cause discomfort. There may also be no porthole here. The distance between the chair and the toilet wall is not very large.

Row 29. The seat backs do not tip over due to the emergency exit. There is a toilet nearby, which is also not a plus (and the chairs in the middle rest against the toilet with their backs - the sounds of the flush tank are guaranteed).

Row 31. Quite a controversial row. On one side, there is increased legroom due to the missing row at the front. On the other hand, the presence of an emergency exit creates restrictions on packing hand luggage. Also, you cannot fly with children and animals in these places. It may be a little cooler here than in the other part of the plane. Seat “A” is located near the emergency door, which may interfere with a comfortable flight. Near place “C” there is a ladder.

Row 43. Seats are highlighted in yellow. The seat backs do not tip over due to the emergency hatch. Also, some passengers complain about the small legroom. Additional noise may be created by passengers passing by on their way to the toilet.

Row 44. The seats here are better than in row 43. First of all, due to the increased legroom. The only downside is the presence of a toilet in the immediate vicinity. Places A and L are located near the emergency door.

Row 54. Analogy to row 43. The seat backs do not tip over. Places C and H are the most hectic as they are on the way to the kitchen area.

Row 55. More comfortable due to increased legroom. But the situation is aggravated by the presence of a kitchen area in close proximity.

Rows 67-69 Rows have two chairs, which means they are more relaxed. Especially convenient for flights of married couples.

Row 70. The seats in this row are not very comfortable, although they are paired. The seat backs do not recline.

Row 71. The noisiest row, as it is close to the toilet. Places D and G are the most uncomfortable. Passengers will constantly walk past you, so you won’t fall asleep.

The 747-400 began production in 1988. It was immediately adopted by many Western airlines around the world. This is a large, double-deck liner designed for more than 500 passengers.

It can be used on long-haul, intercontinental flights, as well as on destinations in high demand.

Boeing 747-400 of Rossiya Airlines

This is the most large airliner on the staff of Rossiya Airlines. As we wrote above, it has two decks. The cockpit is located on the top. This air carrier practices 3 seating arrangements in the cabin. 1 and 2 are very similar. The difference is only 2 chairs on the upper deck. But scheme 3 is very different from the first two.

The company uses 3 types of seats on this plane .

Business Class

They have an extended gap between the seats. Have more comfortable spot, having the ability to unfold 160-180 degrees, with a foot pillow. The passenger can take a horizontal position. Also includes drinks and internet access.

Economy class

The distance between the backs here ranges from 74 to 91 centimeters. The backs of the seats recline, but not more than 60 degrees. Each chair has a folding table and a pocket for things.

Space+

These are economy class seats, but with improved characteristics - increased distance between rows. Accordingly, they are more expensive than usual. They can be located in a separate unit in the cabin. They are also considered the most comfortable seats in the general economy class cabin.

1/2 interior diagram

The upper deck has 12 Economy Class seats, plus 27/29 Space+ seats. This is a separate, very cozy VIP compartment, with dedicated household amenities and attentive attitude of flight attendants. Of course, you will have to pay higher than the standard price for this. The salon even has 2 emergency exits.

The lower deck accommodates 483 economy class seats. Of these, 39 have Space+ status. All seats in this salon are divided into three rows. Central, consisting of 4 chairs and two side, consisting of 3 chairs each.

There are 10 emergency exits in the cabin, 5 on each side, and 11 toilet rooms.

Comfortable seats in the cabin

Space+ level chairs can be considered as such, since they are more expensive and more comfortable due to the increased distance between the chairs. But it's not that simple. A long distance is comfortable for the legs, but it is completely inconvenient when the plane is descending. Instinctively, we look for support in front and if the pilots make unsuccessful maneuvers, you may end up on the floor. (Don't forget to fasten your seat belts!)

Therefore, tickets for Space+ seats are not sold:

  • pregnant women;
  • children under 18 years of age;
  • disabled people
  • passengers with a baby bassinet.

Besides places "increased comfort" The seats at the very beginning of the bow of the liner can be called comfortable. 16 seats are arranged 2 in a row, which is very convenient for those traveling together. If you don't mind flying in the tail section, you can also find double occupancy there.

The side parts of the huge salon are occupied by 3 seats in one row, which is perfect for a group of 3 people or a family with a child.

Uncomfortable seats in the cabin

If you are flying alone, then you will feel uncomfortable in seats marked B, E, F, K. Due to the fact that they are surrounded by other seats. If you are flying together, try not to take seats E, F - in the center of the cabin and A, B, K, L - by the windows. Otherwise you will have to ask your neighbors to let you out.

Many people do not like to fly by plane because of the crowded conditions. Since the distance between the chairs is no more than 90 centimeters, those around you fall into your personal space. From this point of view, almost all economy class passengers are in uncomfortable conditions.

Traditionally inconvenient places chairs near the toilet are considered. And also seats with their backs to the emergency exits - they do not recline fully according to safety requirements.

3 scheme

The upper deck with this seating arrangement consists of 26 business class seats.

The bow part of the lower deck is also occupied by a compartment of 12 business class seats. The remaining 411 seats are occupied by economy class. Unlike previous schemes, there are only 12 Space+ luxury seats. Otherwise, the layout of this salon is no different from the previous one.

If you want to choose the most comfortable seat in the cabin, take care of this a day before your flight. Complete online registration and reserve your favorite seats.

Jumbo Jet, also known as Boeing 747, is a four-engine, wide-body passenger aircraft with two decks for long-distance routes. The Boeing 747 remained the largest passenger aircraft for a long time until the Airbus A380 appeared.

Boeing 747 interior photo

The Boeing 747 program started in 1966. And in January 1970, the first aircraft began to arrive to commercial airlines. When designing a new aircraft, Boeing had to build a new construction hangar near Seattle so that the first model, the Boeing 747-100, could fit there.

-100, -200 and -300 series

The first modification, 747-100, has a length of about 70 meters and a height of 20 meters with a wingspan of 60 meters. Its weight was 162 tons. In order to cover a flight distance of about ten thousand kilometers, special engines were developed for it by Pratt and Whitney. Later, engines from General Electric and Rolls Royce began to be used. The 100th version includes an improved 747-100B model, as well as a short-range variant with a passenger capacity of up to 550 people - the 747-100SR (Short Range), designed specifically for short flights between the Japanese islands.

Boeing 747 photo

The “200th” series received a higher initial weight and a longer flight range. In the 747-200B version it is 10,800 kilometers. An undoubted advantage was the ability to easily adapt passenger aircraft into cargo (747-200F), as well as combined (747-200C, 747-200M). And the -200C variant has undergone further improvements in terms of cargo transportation. One of these improvements was the folding nose. In 1983, the Boeing 747-300 took to the skies. Ego's main characteristics have been increased. The flight range was now 12,300 kilometers. The upper deck was expanded. And consequently the number of passenger seats has increased. The series also includes cargo-passenger variants - 747-300M and 747-300SR, intended, like the -200SR, for domestic flights in Japan.

The most successful versions of the 747-400 and the new 747-8

The 747-400 boasts of being Boeing's best-selling aircraft. It was put into operation in 1989. Compared to the 747-300, it has an improved wing, more powerful engines, and improved interior quality. The 747-400 reaches a maximum flight range of 13.5 thousand kilometers without stopping for refueling and can fly at speeds of up to 913 kilometers per hour. The decks of the “four hundredth” can accommodate up to 524 passengers. A cargo version of the airliner was also released, model 747-400F, combined, model 747-400M, for short flights - 747-400D and version 747-400ER for longer flights. Production of the Boeing 747-400 ended in December 2009, with the introduction of the new Boeing 747-8, which first flew in February 2010. Two versions of the aircraft are presented, the passenger 747-8I and the cargo 747-8F. Both models feature new, energy-efficient GE engines for improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions.

The modified Boeing 747 of the American president is capable of speeds of up to 1000 km per hour. Thanks to excellent technical specifications it is called the "plane of the Apocalypse".

Characteristics of the Boeing 747-400ER:

  • Length: 70.6 m.
  • Height: 19.4 m.
  • Wingspan: 64.4 m.
  • Wing area: 541 sq.m.
  • Empty weight: 180.8 tons
  • Fuselage diameter: 6.5 m.
  • Maximum speed: 988 km/h.
  • Flight range: 14200 km.
  • Number of passenger seats: 416-524 seats
  • Crew: 2 people

Boeing 747. Gallery.

The number of seats on the Boeing 747-400 (Boeing 747-400) varies (depending on the model and configuration) from 330 passengers in a three-class cabin to 522 people in a two-class cabin. Also, it is worth considering that there are variations of this airliner with a single-class cabin that can accommodate up to 624 passengers.

As a rule, each airline orders aircraft to suit its needs, and various modifications of the same aircraft can reach hundreds of options.

For example, Transaero Airlines (Transaero) has 20 aircraft of this type, with configurations for 352, 357, 375 and 522 passenger seats. And in the largest European airline LuftHansa already has 30 such aircraft, with a capacity of 330, 344, 362, 378 people.

Therefore, it is very difficult to say exactly which places are the best and most comfortable. To do this, you need to carefully study the interior layout of the airliner in which you are going to fly. After all, everyone has their own seating arrangement.

But still, there are general tips and recommendations for choosing the right place.

Advantages and disadvantages of passenger seats - the best seats in the Boeing 747-400 cabin, using the example of the LuftHansa airliner (344 passenger seats in a three-class cabin).

So, let's start with the bow of the aircraft and business class. Places marked in green ( 1 row), slightly better than the standard seats (indicated in white) due to the fact that there are no seats in front of them and therefore there is additional large legroom.

Seats in row 9- the same

Seats in row 25(indicated in yellow) - this is last places in business class. Inconveniences may be due to the noise that occurs in economy class, as well as due to the partition behind you.

Economy class.

Seats in row 28 not as comfortable as the standard ones, as they are located right behind the partition.

Because of this, there is not enough free space for the legs and tables, which are usually located in the back of the chair in front, are mounted on the armrests. For this reason, the seats can be reduced and the armrests fixed. Not very comfortable.

Seats in row 31 do not recline back at all or have a limitation in this. This is because there is an emergency exit right behind them. Also, they are located near the toilet. Not the best places.

Places in 32 row have additional legroom. Also, from any of these places, you can get up at any time without disturbing your neighbors. Despite the fact that they are located close to the toilet, we think that the freedom of movement and the extra space (which is important on a long flight) make them more advantageous.

Seats in row 42 not as good, for the same reason as in 28 . Only instead of toilets, there are galleys there.

Seats in row 43 may have limited legroom.

The seats in the last, 56th row are definitely not the best. They are located in the tail, near the toilets and have limited reclining, or do not recline at all.

Now about the advantages and disadvantages of standard places, indicated in white.

We are not talking about business class, everything is simple there - all seats are good.

The seats that are located near the window have the advantage that you can look out and enjoy the flight and views (depending on the weather and flight time).

No one will bother you when sitting down or getting up from your seat. These places have one drawback - it is difficult to get up from it without disturbing the neighbors.

Seats located in the middle - there is no access to the window, but people and flight attendants with carts scurrying along the aisle also do not bother you.

Seats located near the aisle have another advantage - it is easy to leave your seat, for example to the toilet, or during an evacuation. Disadvantages: there is no access to the window, and flight attendants with trolleys and people passing through the cabin can also disturb you.

Seats that are placed 4 in a row (in the middle of the cabin) have the same advantages and disadvantages. It is convenient to get up from the extreme ones (both left and right), and those in the middle are not disturbed by people scurrying about.

Basically, according to these simple rules, you can identify good and bad places in the cabin of any airliner.

  • If possible, carefully study the diagram of the airliner you will be flying on.
  • Ask an airline representative for advice
  • When studying the interior layout, choose the optimal seats, follow the same rules that we have given
  • Do not take seats at the very rear, close to the toilets, galley and other technical areas.
  • Do not take seats in which the seats do not recline or are limited in this.
  • Do not take seats in front of or behind which there is a partition
  • Before the flight, decide what is more important to you - looking out the window or being able to go to the toilet without hindrance

We wish you a successful landing!
