The 59.ru portal took up the baton of stories about the Perm Shipyard, which I once started with a story about.
The Perm ship repair plant is hidden in the Kama Zaton. This place was glorified by the Ural writer Alexei Ivanov in the novel “The Geographer Drank His Globe Away.” Ships are repaired and live out their lives here river fleet. The territory is guarded - no ordinary passer-by will enter. The film crew of the 59.ru portal met the old captain to find out what was happening in the place where every Perm boy dreamed of going as a child.

At the entrance to the Perm shipyard there is a boat painted blue and white. Last summer he decorated the town of the White Nights festival. At the entrance of the plant, the film crew was met by a polite security guard: “Please, Anatoly Petrovich is waiting for you.” They were allowed to enter the territory by car - it would have taken about twenty minutes to walk.

We pass the dilapidated buildings of the factory boiler room and woodworking shop. Near the machine shop there are capital benches overgrown with weeds. Reminds me a little dead city from Mowgli. Finally we reach a two-story house sunk into the ground. The old captain is waiting for us here.

Anatoly Petrovich Bodrov is from Saratov. When I started working in Perm, about 140 ships wintered in Zaton. Large trucks and passenger ships, dredgers. There were huge workshops. The mechanical shop repaired up to 100 diesel engines a year. They built powerful cranes and sent them throughout the USSR. A total of 74 cranes were built. They built pusher ships and barges. A lot of furniture was made in the woodworking shop.

Our interlocutor has been navigating for more than 30 years. On large ships and on the Meteor. Many of the ships I worked on are now permanently laid up here in Zaton. Anatoly Petrovich himself has been retired for 20 years. He works as a responsible duty officer at a ship repair yard.
“After my third year, I worked as the third navigator on the ship Frederic Joliot Curie. After the fourth year I came to it. And after graduation - the same ship, only “Surgeon Razumovsky”, with a second navigator. Then he worked on the Gladkov as the first navigator. Here he stands. From "Gladkov" he went to the paddle steamer "Perm" as captain. The next year he accepted “Ukraine”. It was later renamed “Bulgaria” by private owners,” he lists the ships on which he had the opportunity to work.

At the pier there is a motor ship "Kompozitor Glazunov" - the same type of vessel as the infamous "Bulgaria". “These are good ships,” sighs Anatoly Petrovich. “The Czechoslovak Republic built them for us.” According to the river register, such vessels could carry up to 500 people and up to 30 tons of cargo. There were cases where they carried 100 tons. Since the line was a cargo-passenger line, the captains had to carry both passengers and cargo.
“If we make plans, good. If we don’t do it, then in the winter they will convince us from all the stands,” says the interlocutor. - This type of double-decker vessel is more stable than three-decker ones, because they have a flat-bottomed hull and a good draft, while those with half-keel hulls, so in the wave they already begin to wallow like a hull. But this one works fine, like an iron. After the “Bulgaria” incident, they were all banned. This one was brought from Saratov without passengers. Exactly the same ships “Armenia” and “Composer Scriabin” are located in Tchaikovsky. They were taken away from here. They were more or less in good condition. Now all that's left of them is metal. Everything else was stolen and plundered.”

We continue our walk around the factory. There are about 40 workers here - boilermakers, welders, and a turning section. Previously - up to a thousand people along with the crew. The repair shop has huge lathes. Diesel engines are repaired here, the ten-meter shafts that rotate the propellers of such giants as Volgodon are processed. The room has stove heating. A woodpile is stacked in the corner. Workers hide from the cold in winter in plastic tents that resemble huge greenhouses. This is how they worked during the war.

There are many boats on the territory of the plant. They are everywhere. The fact is that when ships are undergoing refurbishment, new requirements are placed on them. Old boats are removed and new ones are installed. The old ones just stay there and lie there.
- Are these boats no longer good for anything?
- Remember “White Nights” last year? This is how boats were transported from here. The moss was nailed down, everything else was painted... Did you see the boat along the way? He was there too.

We are approaching the ship "Soviet Union". It has been standing in Zaton for about 12 years. The ship has outlived the state and has no intention of rotting.
“Its body is made, the captain told me, you know, they say, Petrovich, paint it inside, usually the paint comes off and rusts... But here it doesn’t rust, because the primer falls off, and the metal underneath is like new. The hull is made of metal from which submarines were made,” reveals the secret “ Soviet Union» Anatoly Petrovich.

On the bow of the ship there was a hundred-kilogram bronze coat of arms of the USSR. The factory employees remember that the ship arrived without him. The management raised a lot of people's ears. The coat of arms was found. Now it is stored somewhere in the bins of the enterprise.
The ship "Frédéric Joliot Curie" is located nearby. Anatoly Bodrov sailed on it for more than 10 navigations. In 2011, there was a fire on the ship.

Passengers were transported along the Kama by hydrofoils. “Rockets”, “Meteors”, “Sunrises”... From the bushes by the road, like a monument, the nose of the “Sunrise” sticks out. If you come closer, you can see that its side is torn apart. The iron sticks out to the sides with ragged edges, revealing the interior of the cabin.

“This Voskhod in the 90s jumped onto the embankment above the Ust-Kachka pier about twenty meters at full speed. The people remained alive and well, there were no casualties or injuries,” says Anatoly Petrovich. - Flew out. At full speed, 60 kilometers speed. If it were on the pier, the bow would be all crushed, but this is the salon - there are people here.”

This year, 90 ships are wintering in Zaton. Some of them are being repaired. The enterprise is still afloat, although there are almost no workers left. Previously, ship crews were hired to work at the plant in the winter. Now the crews are quitting and running in all directions.

Full report.
