Reconstructed ultra-modern railway station Zhlobin station.
I decided to go to the town of Zhlobin by commuter train to get a clearer idea of how life is in the Gomel region of the Republic of Belarus. Although Zhlobin cannot be called a province in the full sense of the word, because it stands at the intersection of 2 major railways, Bakhmach - Gomel - Minsk and St. Petersburg - Orsha - Korosten. Many times in my life I passed this station on the way to St. Petersburg; I remember there used to be a thriving trade in soft toys, which no longer exists.
I found a photo online of this “unobtrusive” trade that was thriving 10 years ago. I think that many who traveled to St. Petersburg from Ukraine through Belarus remembered this station for this very reason.
By the way, I never would have thought that one day I would find myself in Zhlobin not as a passing passenger on a fast train.
Electrification for this famous station came just a few months ago. And I still remember Zhlobin in the 70s, when from the window of the Kyiv-Leningrad train I observed the complete dominance of TE3 diesel locomotives, and I Leningrad train In those days I crawled towards Mogilev slowly, like a turtle, bowing to each stop. Much water has flown under the bridge since that time.
Already in the late 80s, jointless tracks were laid in all directions from Zhlobin, which significantly increased the speed of movement, and traction began to be carried out by the latest high-speed diesel locomotives TEP70 at that time. And finally, this diesel locomotive kingdom, in the second decade of the 21st century, finally received electrification, which came here along the main axial direction, from Minsk.
It’s just that the warhead still has problems with electric locomotives; traction on the Minsk-Osipovichi-Zhlobin section is still carried out mainly by diesel locomotives. The entire warhead has only 15 ChS4T passenger electric locomotives in its assets. The situation with cargo is better; the Baranovichi depot has 53 VL80S cargo and 12 Chinese BKG1. All this, except for the “Chinese”, was obtained by the Belarusian road back in the first half of the 80s, when the electrification of the Moscow-Brest main line was launched.
But let’s hope that as electric traction advances to Gomel, the warhead will resolve the issue with the traction train with the help of either the Chinese or the Russians.
The Minsk Electric Train was the only rolling stock that ran on electric traction that I saw. Many people switched from the Gomel diesel engine to it in order to travel further towards Bobruisk and Minsk.
My hopes of seeing in Zhlobin the Minsk “teremok” ChS4T, the Baranovichi “vylnik” VL80S or even the Chinese BKG1 turned out to be in vain.

The main line Minsk - Gomel - Bakhmach goes southeast, to the bridge over the Dnieper, which is no more than a kilometer away. By the way, electrification ends right before this single-track bridge. On the right you can see a line making a sharp turn to the south and going to Kalinkovichi and Korosten. From this sharp turn it is clear that the road to Korosten was built later, by the way, during the First World War.
And in Zhlobin there is a southern railway bypass, with a railway bridge across the Dnieper. Who knows if it works?
The railway came here 140 years ago, during the construction of the Libavo-Romenskaya railway. The road crossing St. Petersburg - Orsha - Korosten was built at the beginning of the 20th century. Since then, Zhlobin has become one of the most important railway junctions in the western part of Russia - the USSR.

Electric trains run from here in four directions: to Kalinkovichi, to Mogilev, to Gomel and to Osipovichi. In the first direction, the train runs to Kalinkovichi about five times a day.
