Throughout the peninsula, the mountains are literally dotted with various caves, both underwater and above water. There are, of course, many caves, but there is one truly unique one. Every year it attracts thrill-seekers.

This place is located under Mount Eagle. Not far from Chaliapin's grotto and the village New World. The underwater cave has a very unusual and sonorous name “Legend”. This is one of the most mysterious attractions of Crimea. Despite the fact that the place became popular more than twenty years ago, scientists are still exploring the cave. After all, its origin is not known for certain, and the depth of the cave also remains a mystery. Rock samples are taken regularly. There is also a theory that the lake, which is located inside the cave, has many siphons. They are completely unexplored and therefore are of particular interest in the world of professional speleologists.

The cave is a kind of impregnable fortress. Not every tourist dares to go there. Even many brave souls may not be able to enter the cave. The fact is that the entrance is located at a depth of more than one meter from the sea, and even hidden under a stone canopy. Immediately from the entrance there are two small tunnels of 4 and 6 meters respectively. It is almost impossible to squeeze through them on your own. Therefore, you have to resort to the help of a rope and experienced comrades.

Having gone through all the difficulties, the tourist finds himself in a wonderful world. A large gorge, the height of which reaches at least eight meters. There are springs everywhere and fresh lakes, stalactites and stalagmites. Do not forget that it is quite cool in the cave. For this reason, you should dress accordingly, because even in the hottest summer, the room temperature never exceeds 15 degrees.

The place is truly amazing, but also unsafe. You need to remember that you can get into this cave only in sunny weather. Provided there is complete calm at sea. In bad weather, you shouldn’t even swim to the entrance. The guides always provide detailed instructions, because you will have to move not only in beautiful rooms, but also in narrow tunnels in complete darkness, and this is often very dangerous.

The Legend underwater cave is located in the New World area behind Cape Koba Kaya. Entrance is only accessible from the sea.

The official name of the cave is Legend. Locals call it Fidel's Cave.

In the past, a diver from the New World, Fidel Ivanovich Khadyko, led several groups of extreme sports enthusiasts into the cave every day. No one knows labyrinths better than him. That's why local residents and they began to call the cave after him.

It is not known exactly when the Legend was discovered. Even professional cavers don’t know. But every boatman in the New World will tell you that next to her during the filming of the film “Amphibian Man” Ichthyander jumped from a cliff for the pearl necklace of the beautiful Gutierre.

The cave has a gallery of faults, a lake, stalactites and stalagmites. After walking a few meters in a tunnel under water, you find yourself in a narrow rocky rift in the first hall of the cave. Then the climb begins upward and into the depths of the Legend, already on dry land. And every moment a whole performance with vivid images plays out before your eyes in the light of the lanterns. underworld, a part of which you unwittingly become.

In order to plunge into this landmark of Crimea, you will have to swim about two meters under water. It’s not very deep here, about a meter, but the tunnel will need to be overcome.

The entrance is located next to the former wine library of Prince Golitsyn (also called Chaliapin's grotto) under the Eagle rock. Two entrance holes are located here at sea level under a small rocky cornice.

The length of the right entrance reaches about 4 meters, and the left one about 6. The entrance to both is at a depth of about one meter. The cave is located just above sea level, so the entrances create siphon channels. Please note that the entrances are quite narrow and quite difficult to swim through. You can get into the cave using a rope. The cave is cool, about 15 degrees in summer.

Keep in mind that if you have to swim underwater, it is also advisable to take all your things and equipment with you. Some equipment may break down in water. Before purchasing, we recommend consulting with store managers about specifications equipment.
In the first hall there are sinter formations that are not found in other halls of the cave.

At the very end of the cave there is a small lake with a spring fresh water. The dimensions of the lake are 2 by 5 meters. After heavy rains, the water level in the lake rises, perhaps there is an unexplored siphon.
There is a large crack above the lake, you can try to climb up it. There used to be an old rope ladder there. Many cracks are visible on the ceiling. The total length of the cave is more than 50 meters, but it has not been fully explored; it is quite possible that it has a continuation towards Chaliapin’s grotto.
If you love diving and cave exploration, then these places are just for you. If you are new to this business, we recommend that you contact guides who will help organize such an excursion.
