Kamala Beach in Phuket - harmony of nature and relaxation. Kamala Beach, Phuket: the best of exotic Tours to Kamala Beach Resort Phuket

Kamala Beach in Phuket (Kamala Beach) a very ambiguous beach for me, for many years now I can’t decide whether I like it or not :) There are beaches that you fall in love with the first time - for me this best beaches Phuket Surin and , there are beaches that at first glance cause horror - for me these are Kata and Patong, and there are these average beaches that are sometimes very pleasing, and sometimes upsetting. In this article detailed description Kamala beach Phuket, sea, infrastructure, hotels on Kamala beach, photos, reviews.

Kamala Beach in Phuket is so different depending on the time of year, time of day, weather and my mood :)

Description of Kamala Beach

Kamala Beach is a long beach in a bay in the west of Phuket, located north of the popular Patong and south of the beloved. Between Patong and Kamala there is also Kalim Beach, which is not swimmable, and between Kamala and Surin, the passage to which is this moment It is closed by land and can only be reached by sea. Kamala Beach

As I already wrote, Kamala Beach is quite long, the length of the beach strip is about two kilometers. Conventionally, Kamala Beach can be divided into four parts (scheme map below):

  • The southern part is the unswimmable part of the beach, shallow sea, boats, a stinking river flows nearby (number 1)
  • The central equipped part of the beach with all the necessary beach infrastructure and a small walking path near the sea (number 2)
  • The wild part of Kamala beach, which ends with a river (number 3)
  • The northernmost part of Kamala Beach, where it is located beach club Café Del Mar Phuket and Novotel Phuket Kamala Beach Hotel (number 4)

The schematic map schematically shows areas of Kamala Beach

All these parts of the beach differ from each other in the quality of the sand, the entry into the sea, the number of people, and the cleanliness.

Vegetation, shade, sand, sea

Gorgeous palm trees and spreading casuarinas (Thai “coniferous” trees with soft “needles”) grow along the entire beach strip, which create good shade in the first half of the day.

The beach has lush vegetation, many casuarinas
There are also plenty of palm trees in Kamala :)

The beach strip at high tide is not very wide, so it’s convenient to sunbathe in the shade under a tree, and then run briefly along the hot sand to cool off in the sea :)

The sand on Kamala Beach is grayish, fine, and in some places mixed with small stones. In the northern part near Novotel the sand is finer.

The sand in the northern part of the beach near the Novotel hotel is finer and whiter

The entry into the sea is very smooth, in the southern part of the beach the sea is very shallow, swimming is problematic, in the central part the sea is deeper, but at low tide it also becomes shallow. The entrance to the water is without large stones and corals, but here and there there are small pebbles in the water.

Southern part of the beach at low tide. Very fine
Low tide on the beach
Despite the fact that at low tide the sea goes far away, swimming in the sea in the central part of the beach is still comfortable

The color of sea water depends greatly on the time of day and the presence of sun. In the first half of the day, in sunny weather, the sea is bright turquoise, but in the evening it is gray... The water in the sea is not as pleasant and gentle as on Surin or Kata Noi, but because gray sand the bottom does not seem very clean, although in fact it is not. In general, the sea on Kamala is similar to the sea on Samui or, i.e. not perfectly transparent!

The sea on Kamala could be this color! Morning on a sunny day
Or something like this. Second half of the day, the dim sun is shining from the sea
The water on this beach does not seem perfectly clear

In summer, Kamala Beach, like most beaches in Phuket, has strong waves; in the off-season (autumn and spring) the waves are small and very pleasant; in winter, Kamala is usually calm.

Complete calm in winter

Purity

Unfortunately, the Kamala Beach beach is not very clean. The sections of the beach only opposite the hotels are well cleaned, namely the northernmost part of the beach near Novotel and the central part opposite the Kamala Beach Resort (A Sunprime Resort) hotel.

Due to the fact that there are a lot of casuarinas growing on the beach, “needles” from them remain on the sand, there are a lot of leaves on the sand that no one removes. There is a lot of garbage in the wild part of Kamala Beach; several times we even saw foreigners coming with large garbage bags and cleaning up the area. small area beach

The beach cannot boast of ideal cleanliness; there is quite a lot of natural debris

Kamala Beach infrastructure

Now sunbeds have been returned to some Phuket beaches, which by law must occupy no more than 10% of the beach strip: not all beaches have them, but on Kamala Beach there are sunbeds and umbrellas for rent, the cost for two sunbeds and an umbrella is 200 baht per day.

Sun beds and umbrellas on the beach - 200 baht per set
The beds are waiting for tourists :)

There are also paid toilets and showers on the beach, which I saw in those places (I’ll mark them on the map at the bottom of the article):

  • In the northern part of the beach near the river
  • In the Nanork Seafood cafe, which is located on the path between the developed and wild parts of the beach, where everyone parks their vehicles (only the shower here is a hose and a barrel of fresh water 🙂)
  • In the central part of the beach, where the row of cafes along the sea ends and the row of shops begins (the shower is normal, there is even shower gel :)

Toilet 10 baht, shower 20 baht. You can also try to rinse off in the shower for free on the premises of the Sunprime Resort hotel.

On the shore you can get a massage, either on mattresses on the sand or in a massage parlor near the shore. Prices for Kamala massage in the photo below:

You can get a massage right on the shore
Or in the lounge with sea view

Along almost the entire coastline There is a concrete footpath, covered with sand in some places. In the central part of the beach, on one side of it there are cafes and even several hotels on the first line, and on the other, the beach itself and the sea. It’s very pleasant to sit in a cafe almost on the very seashore: unfortunately, such cafes that are located right next to the beach strip can rarely be found in Phuket. In the “wild” no-man’s-land of the beach, on one side of the path there is a concrete fence, and on the other the beach itself: it’s convenient to drive up on a bike and park right next to the place where you are lying :)

Prices for Kamala in cafes along the beach are standard, the average cost of dinner is 400 - 500 baht for two.

At the northern end of Kamala Beach is the popular beach club and restaurant Café Del Mar, which hosts brunch on Sundays and parties in the evenings.

Contingent and number of people on the beach

A year ago, Kamala Beach, especially its wild part, was almost empty. In the same season, there is simply an invasion of tourists throughout Phuket (they say that the last time such a full house of vacationers in Thailand was in the 2012-2013 season, just when we wintered for the first time)!

There are a lot of foreign pensioners, Germans, Scandinavians. But there are also enough Russian speakers for Kamala Beach. This beach is often chosen for families with children; many families with strollers walk along the path along the sea or along the surf line during low tide.

Local newlyweds love to come to Kamala for a wedding photo shoot; we have already seen photo shoots on the beach more than once :)

Infrastructure of the Kamala region

The infrastructure of the Kamala region is very well developed. The main road runs approximately 350 m from the beach. There is a large Big C supermarket, many 7 Elevens, Family mart, other shops, banks, cafes, restaurants, certain time Makashnitsa are laid out along the road.

In addition to the pedestrian path with cafes along the sea, Kamala has several small tourist streets with cafes, restaurants, and massage parlors where you can stroll in the evening. These streets reminded me of the main street on Koh Samui.

Streets with hotels and tourist infrastructure within the area
Coffee houses, cafes, shops
Hotels, ATMs, rental offices - Kamala has it all

In the central part near the embankment there is a small park with a children's playground and a monument to the victims of the tsunami.

Several times a week, Kamala hosts a sort of Walking Street or, simply put, Night Market, where they sell Thai food, some clothes, and some souvenirs. Despite the fact that the markets are called night, they are open from lunch until approximately 19:00 - 20:00.

Markets on Kamala Beach:

  • The Wednesday and Saturday market is located across the street from Big S. Coordinates: 7.946059, 98.279853
  • The market on Mondays and Fridays is here: 7.953813, 98.286008, across the street from the park with the Fantasia show.

Entertainment and attractions

On the Kamala beach itself you can rent a jet ski, ride on the sea on a “banana” or “cheesecake”, rent a SUP board, and in the northern part near the Novotel hotel they rent kayaks.

On Kamala in the southernmost part there is Buddhist temple Wat Kamala, and in the center there is a mosque.

There is a big one here theme park and the show Fantasia (Phuket FantaSea).

Hotels on Kamala Beach

Speaking about hotels on Kamala beach, I want to note that hurray, there is inexpensive hotels on the first line! But for lovers of good comfortable hotels in Kamala there is a choice :)

Among the top three popular places holiday on the island and well suited for a relaxing holiday by the sea. Its peculiarity is that the coastal route goes further east and does not separate the beach itself and the residential area. Thanks to this, there are hotels that can truly be considered first line. This place is also much calmer than others, where cars and motorcycles are constantly scurrying around, filling the air with exhaust and noise. Kamala Beach beach is equidistant from both and about twenty kilometers away. The total length of the beach is approximately one and a half kilometers, and the width of the sand strip is from five to thirty meters.

Conventionally, Kamala Beach in Phuket can be divided into three parts.

  1. South. In the south, the strip of sand is no wider than five meters. This is where the berths for excursion boats and therefore the water is quite dirty, and there are no umbrellas or sun loungers on the shore.
  2. Central. Kamala Beach itself begins after the road turns east. Geographically, this is the central part of the beach. There are a lot of people on all days, sun loungers and umbrellas stand like soldiers in a parade - in several rows. All types available water activities, from bananas and cheesecakes to jet skis and water skis. Right along the strip of sand there are cafes and restaurants, as well as massage parlors.
  3. Northern. The northern part of the beach is the calmest, there are not too many tourists there, but they are the guests of first-line hotels. Outside guests are not driven, they can also use sun loungers and umbrellas. According to many family tourists, northern Kamala is best place for relaxation and swimming.

Natural conditions on Kamala Beach

Sprawling palm trees and casuarinas (horsetail plants) grow along the entire coastline of Kamala Beach. Until noon they cover the sand with thick shadow. During high tides, the strip of sand narrows to a few meters, so you can literally plunge into the sea from a running start. The sand itself is grayish; as you move south, more and more small stones appear in it.

In the south and north of the beach, the entrance to the sea is very gentle, and the southern part is shallower, which is why it is used for mooring boats. If you want to go deeper, then go to the central part, but during low tide it also becomes shallow. You can safely enter the water: there are no large stones or fragments of coral.

The color of the water changes depending on the time of day. In the morning, when the rays glide over the surface of the sea, it is bright turquoise. In the afternoon and evening it becomes grayish due to the sand on the bottom. Which is an optical illusion, the water is as gentle and clean as on the beaches or.

Cleanliness level

Due to the abundance of tourists, Kamala Beach in Phuket is not clean. The most thorough cleaning is on the northern edge, where the Novotel hotel is located, as well as in the center, where a strip of sand is allocated to the Kamala Beach Resort hotel.

It is worth noting that for some reason long green branches broken off from casuarinas are not considered garbage. Therefore, their number increases with distance from water.

Beach infrastructure

Vacationers on Kamala Beach are provided with umbrellas and sun loungers for rent. A set of two sun loungers and an umbrella cost about 200 baht per day. Services are permanently offered, a session of which can be obtained not only in a salon nearby, but also right on the sand.

There is a path along the shore. It separates social and cultural enterprises - cafes, souvenir shops - from the beach. In the northern part of the beach, hotel doors open onto this path. A little further from the sea, next to the police station, there are sellers of hot cakes and ice cream - the so-called. It's cheaper there than in a cafe, but lunch on a shady veranda overlooking the sea looks more attractive. The average bill at a beach cafe is about five hundred baht for two people.

The northern part of the beach is attractive because of the club and restaurant Café Del Mar, which opened in 2016. It has a swimming pool. In addition to all sorts of dishes, they also serve live music. The main action begins after six in the evening, when vacationers move from their sun loungers to the dance floor. There is also a bar and a VIP area. On weekends, the crazy fun starts from 14:00.

Things to do

For those interested in what to do on Kamala Beach, we especially recommend. Tourists from all over the island gather to watch the grand performance with the participation of hundreds of actors and animals. total area entertainment center 50 hectares, the Golden Kinnaree restaurant operates on its territory, accommodating up to 4 thousand visitors at a time.

In the residential area near the beach there are restaurants and bars, massage parlors, and tour desks. Large shopping centers no, but it won’t be difficult to buy everything you need – beach accessories, daily clothes and shoes. In general, Kamala has everything you need to relax comfortably and in style.

Top hotels

Kamala Beach hotels in Phuket can satisfy both epicureans and ascetics. For the former, five-star hotels are open, and for the latter, affordable guesthouses. You can find the most suitable hotel on the websites hotellook.ru or roomguru.ru. And you can see the best of them in the selection below.

This time, the room we stayed in was not very well cleaned at first. To be honest, we were immediately surprised! Earlier to return to the room, cleanliness, everything is in place, etc. After the first day of cleaning, we thought that we had imagined it. Plus, the traditional cream and coffee have not yet been delivered. I asked the staff to correct this situation. It seems they reported. The next day, it happened again exactly. Then I was forced to contact the reception, after which they arranged a meeting with the manager. I explained the situation to her, she went with me to the room, where she saw confirmation of my claims. We must pay tribute, the reaction was timely! Our room probably hasn't been cleaned like this since its first day of use. In the subsequent days of our stay, everything was just really polished, arranged, filled and supplemented. Another issue that I immediately discussed with the manager was the issue of replacing my three breakfasts, with an additional payment for dinner. Let me explain. I went on a dive, so three of my breakfasts included in the price of my stay were burned. I offered to exchange them with an additional payment for dinners for my wife, who was staying at the hotel. I was given a refusal. I believe that this is not serious and such an issue can, in principle, be resolved without any difficulties. This is the treatment of the hotel management. I hope that next time, in case of an appeal, it will be resolved.

For the FOURTH time in a row we have been to this hotel and this speaks for itself! All previous reviews are here earlier. Everything is good: territory, five swimming pools, three bars, two restaurants. Cleanliness in the area. We note positively, but we saw soft, non-wet mattresses on the sunbeds. I already wrote about this and told the staff earlier, it was not entirely comfortable to lie on the sagging sunbeds. Now it's normal. The food deserves special praise and its quality does not change with each visit! Again, having your own private beach, fenced off by water, is positive. Zero line to the sea. Thank you......

We paid a deposit when checking into the hotel. And after eviction, the balance of the deposit should have been returned to the card within 14 days. But the money never came to us! There are approximately 2,500 baht left in the account (5,000 rubles!). We already called the hotel, they said contact your bank, which we naturally already did, the hotel simply ignores email! It turns out the hotel stole 2,500 baht from us. This ruined the whole impression of the staff's work, I would really like to get our money back!!!

The hotel itself is good, I enjoyed my stay. We can’t say anything bad about the hotel itself, but!

We have already stayed in this hotel 3 times since 2012 for 24 days and each time it gets worse. The rooms should be reconstructed - (goosebumps and cockroaches were present in every room where we lived). The hotel is at full capacity - there are no sunbeds for everyone, cocktails at the bar are diluted (and this was only noticed in 2019). The price of accommodation is rising every year. On the next balcony they smoke so much that there is a complete smoke screen in your room. Massage at the hotel - depending on your luck. Sometimes it’s lazy and nothing. Cleaning the room is ridiculous even to describe. (in 24 days - more than one general. Nobody even thinks about the fact that the railings on the cormorant need to be wiped from bird droppings. The electrical system is very strangely organized. If you turn on the light, the TV goes out. ((Every year there are a lot of people on the beach people and the fact that we loved this beach and the hotel so much will disappear. The most interesting thing is that the compliment from the hotel was only once in the previous years. And please change the shower gel and soap - it smells terrible.

My husband and I stayed from November 1 to November 14, 2019 in room 6302. The room overlooks the pool and mountains, quiet, secluded. Room cleaning is at the highest level. Tea and coffee sets, as well as water, were replenished daily (the staff collects used glass bottles and replaces them with new water). In the hotel bottles you will find shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, hand soap, body lotion, in boxes you will find toothbrushes, a shaving machine, a comb, shower caps, cotton swabs, and in the closet there are slippers and bathrobes. The hotel has a luxurious breakfast, including a lot of fruits, pastries, and delicious yoghurts. A massage at the hotel cost 300-400 baht (by the time we left, cheaper than on the beach), manicure - 250 baht, pedicure - 300 baht. Taxi to the airport - 700 baht. There is a shuttle from the hotel to Patong 3 times a day, 100 baht one way, 150 baht round trip. The restaurant by the sea organizes festive evenings with a show program and live music, a table for two is approximately 2500 baht. There is a pedestrian path between the hotel and the sea, to the left is the village and the 7/11 store, to the right are restaurants and cafes (I highly recommend Lilla Island). On Friday and Monday (from approximately 14 to 19 hours) there is an outdoor market near the hotel where you can buy fruits, souvenirs, delicacies, and clothes

On the way from the stop to the hotel there is a vacant lot and a busy highway. Sometimes room cleaning is too late. The rooms are a little tired and there is a lack of lighting in them.

The hotel is within walking distance from the smart bus stop and Fantasea Park. There is a market across the road on Mon and Fri. Not far from the hotel there is a street with restaurants, bars, shops and massage parlors. Huge green area with 4 swimming pools, 2 restaurants, access to the sea. The hotel took into account all the wishes specified when booking. Spacious room with everything you need: kettle + tea/coffee facilities, generously replenished daily, bottled water, refrigerator, safe, toiletries in the dispenser, a large shelf for storing suitcases. There is a balcony with a drying rack and a table/chairs. Strong free wifi throughout the hotel. Friendly staff who escort you to your room upon check-in and help deliver your suitcases, and also create an atmosphere of hospitality throughout your stay at the hotel. These photos were taken from a small area, which can be found if you follow from Kamala beach towards Surin (or vice versa, from Surin to Kamala), not far from Kamala, before reaching Laem Sing beach, there will be a small natural platform from which you can see this luxurious view of the entire Kamala beach.

Kamala Beach is a stunning beach in every way!

For us, Kamala Beach has become a source of harmony, natural beauty and a relaxing atmosphere.

First of all, it is very beautiful, this immediately catches your eye as soon as you approach the beach. Here, tall palm trees lined up along the perimeter of the beach line so harmoniously combine with sea water of a delicate blue-turquoise color and soft white sand, which, in the rays of the sun, shimmers and plays in different shades, from snow-white to light beige and even gray -yellow.

And here are the happy newlyweds

Secondly, Kamala Beach is uncrowded and calm. In addition, there is no road right behind the beach, which gives additional silence. All this contributes to a calm, measured and relaxed holiday.

The length of the Kamala Beach coastline is almost 2 kilometers, which is not small, and the width of the beach is about 20-30 meters, not much, but these meters are enough for relaxation. In addition, due to the fact that the beach smoothly merges into the embankment, visually, the beach strip appears much wider.

The sea water is clean. The beach is also quite clean and well maintained. There is natural debris from palm trees and carried out sea wave, but we didn’t notice any household garbage on the beach; it’s clear that the beach is cleaned regularly.

For more quiet rest and sunbathing, the north side of the beach is more suitable. It is quieter here than in the central part of the beach. Here, in the farthest, northern point beach, there is a 4-star Hotel Novotel Phuket Kamala Beach. There is a public part of the beach adjacent to the hotel. Casuarina trees provide good cooling, which also act as a source of a pleasant smell.

The central part of the beach has all the necessary beach infrastructure. There is a toilet and shower, as well as some beach and water activities - banana boat rides, jet ski rides, parachute flights over the sea surface. You can rent a boat or kayak. And for even more relaxation, order a massage and relax under the gentle and skillful hands of Thai girls.

In search of coolness, you can take advantage of the natural shade coming from the palm trees growing along the perimeter of the beach, or rent a sun lounger and parasol, of which there are a great many in the central part of the beach. Price - 200 baht per day for two sun loungers and a sun umbrella.

The southernmost part of the beach is not suitable for beach holiday, this is a more “wild” place, the coastal area is dirty and boats are crowded together.

Well, thirdly. If you have already forgotten, then under these points we list the advantages of Kamala Beach)). Thirdly, Kamala does not end at one beach; Kamala can rightfully be called a fully developed beach of the same name provincial towns. There is an embankment along the length of the beach, and in the center of Kamala there are several streets with an abundance of cafes and restaurants, bars and massage parlors, small shops and retail outlets, as well as exchange offices, hotels and guest houses.

There is a narrow promenade along the beach, one part of which is occupied by hotels, so it is calmer and conducive to walking.

In the central part of the beach there are cafes and restaurants, some of which are located right on beach strip.

Near the embankment, in the central part of Kamala, there is a small green Park, which houses a cafe, a children's playground and historical monument- Tsunami Memorial Park.

Moving from the park higher into the center of Kamala, you will certainly come out onto the busy Rim Hat Rd, along which there are numerous retail outlets, shops, massage parlors, money exchangers, cafes and restaurants, as well as hotels and guest houses.

Cons of Kamala Beach

For us personally, the only downside of the beach is the rivers that flow into the sea. There are several of these on the beach. These rivers are far from ideal, dirty, but not stinking. However, when swimming in the sea, you completely forget about this. In addition, the flow of “stinky rivers” into the sea on the beach strip is typical for most beaches in Phuket.

Entertainment and attractions of Kamala

One of the main and outstanding entertainments of Kamala is the colorful and large-scale show “Phuket Fantasy”. Phuket FantaSea is a whole theme park, the entertainment performance of which involves beautiful scenery, many actors and trained animals.

On Fridays, an evening market (in Phuket it is called a night market) is organized in Kamala. At the market you can buy clothes and souvenirs, as well as enjoy Thai cuisine, the dishes of which will be prepared before your eyes.

You can also walk to the Kamala Temple (Wat Kamala). The temple grounds are quiet and cozy. And the bright buildings, with red tiled roofs and the sculpture of Buddha are made in the traditional Buddhist style and are unlikely to leave anyone indifferent. The temple is located in the southern part of the beach, near the school.

Where to stay in Kamala
