Abandoned haunted house. The history of real haunted houses. Castle in Roscrea, Offaly, Ireland

This story happened to one little girl, who was twelve years old at that time. She had a best friend, the girls had been friends for a long time and very rarely parted. The friend of the heroine of this story was planning to go explore an abandoned house one day, but she didn’t want to go there herself, so she asked her friend to accompany her. I really wanted to look at this house from the inside, to find out what was there and how. The fact is that there was an old legend about this abandoned house that everyone knew, but not everyone wanted to check how much truth was hidden in it. Legend said that twenty years ago a married couple lived in this house. A man and a woman loved each other and really wanted to have a child, but they couldn’t do it. The woman, for various reasons, including the fact that she could not get pregnant, began to go crazy. She constantly asked everyone if people had seen her little girl, and when her mind was completely damaged, she killed her sleeping husband with an ax in the bedroom at night, after which she cut her wrists in the kitchen. After that, no one dared to not only sell or buy this house, but even come close to it. The girlfriends decided to find out what was true in the old legend and what was not, being confident that the house would turn out to be ordinary and not at all scary. It took some time (not very long) for the girls to get to the house, then they finally decided to go into it. They walked through a building that had long been abandoned by someone. It wasn't scary at all. An ordinary abandoned building. They walked around the house, walked around almost all the rooms, and then they heard something similar to barely audible steps... The girl, who heard, as it seemed to her, steps, quickly rushed to her friend and asked her to listen. Yes, indeed, some rustling could be clearly heard in the silence, but as soon as the girls began to listen, the sounds instantly disappeared, as if on command. Having discussed among themselves what they heard and deciding that it was either a stray hungry cat, or mice in the house, or something just fell from somewhere, the girls calmed down a little. The girlfriends climbed to the second floor along the old, creaky and almost rotten stairs of an abandoned building and stopped in front of a door on which there was a sign with a written name. Perhaps the almost erased inscription indicated the name of the person who once lived in the room or the purpose of the room. Now the inscription was no longer readable. One of the friends opened the unlocked door and both girls froze, discovering that this room was strikingly different from the rest of the house. This room was cleaned, the objects in the room were neatly arranged. There was a large bed, a huge wardrobe against the wall, a table and chair (not dusty at all, which is surprising), and beautiful red curtains hanging on the window. Having made up her mind, the heroine of the story took the first step across the threshold of the room, but then her friend grabbed her by the shoulder and said that they didn’t need to go in there, but that it was better to get out of this house completely, because the further they went, the more uneasy she became. Having decided to show her friend how brave she was, the girl still did not listen and went into the room. At this time, her friend, not daring to enter, stood at the entrance to the room and shone a flashlight. Suddenly, sounds were heard more clearly that resembled shuffling steps... The girl standing at the door, barely hearing these frightening and incomprehensible sounds, immediately threw a flashlight and ran away somewhere. The girl who remained in the room was numb with horror when she saw a shadow separating from one of the walls. Suddenly it became very cold. Against the background of all this, the booming steps of a running away friend could be heard, which suddenly suddenly died down. Silently opening and closing her mouth, the girl began to retreat towards the door, away from the frightening shadow that carried with it an almost frosty cold. Not looking where she was stepping and experiencing severe shock, the twelve-year-old girl tripped over a chair, fell and hit her head hard. The shadow, taking on the outline of a human body, slowly approached. The girl, almost losing consciousness from the horror she was experiencing, looked into the face of a young man with a terrible laceration on his head, who, holding something similar to a meat cleaver in his hands, was leaning towards the girl, who was barely alive from fear... Probably the pain from the blow led a little The girl came to her senses and she, rising from the floor with lightning speed, rushed down the steps to the first floor. There was the sound of a door suddenly closing overhead, but the girl didn't even think about turning her head. Having almost reached the first floor, the heroine of the story fell through with one foot - one of the steps of the stairs could not stand it. Someone's crying was heard and the floor creaked somewhere above. The girl raised her head and saw the same ghost with a cut head. He even seemed to smile, slowly flying through the air towards the failed, frightened girl. Ignoring the pain, the girl pulled her bloody leg out of the resulting gap and covered the remaining distance to the first floor. Rushing to the door that led out of the house, she realized with a clouded mind that her friend must still be in the house - this was evidenced by the crying that was heard from one of the rooms, which the researchers initially mistook for the kitchen. The pain in the leg became even stronger, the crying coming from the kitchen did not stop, suddenly the voice of a friend was heard, calling the girl and begging her to come to her. Deciding to first open the front door so that, after picking up my friend and not stopping a second longer, I could leave as quickly as possible. creepy place , the girl touched the door handle and instantly pulled her hand away - the handle turned out to be covered with frost. Another attempt to open the front door was unsuccessful. Despite the fact that it was the middle of summer outside, the handle was literally frozen. Having given up trying to open the door and leaving behind a trail of blood (her leg was literally burning, it was so painful), the heroine of the story limped into the kitchen. What the girl saw before on the second floor and in the kitchen on the first floor can never be erased from her memory and will probably always haunt her in her nightmares. In the middle of the kitchen, her friend was kneeling and crying, waving her arms. To her left stood a ghost with a cleaver. Having barely managed to restrain herself from rushing out of this room at the sight of her friend not noticing her, placing her in an unnatural position with each wave of her hand, as the ghost of a man smiles and a very real-looking cleaver in his hands swings carelessly at her friend’s neck, the girl remained standing in place. In general, there was nowhere to run. The frightened girl asked to let her friend go, to which the creature to her friend’s left only smiled wider. At the same moment, the girl waving her arms froze motionless and a dense dark fog began to form around her. It became even colder. From chilling horror, not only for herself, but also for her friend, and because of her terribly painful leg, the girl collapsed on the floor. When the fog cleared, to the right, next to the motionless friend, who was looking with an unseeing gaze straight ahead, another creature appeared, which seemed to have come out of the body of the unfortunate girl kneeling. It resembled a woman, a very beautiful woman. Only the expression in her eyes was somehow otherworldly and lifeless. Having experienced so much horror in just a few hours, the girl who came for her friend practically did not react at all to the appearance of the woman’s ghost. The only thing she could do was ask in a dull voice what the ghosts needed from them, to which the creature standing to the right of her friend answered, without moving her lips (it seemed that a low and soulless voice was heard right in her head), that she thanked her , because she brought to their house the girl they needed and for whom they had been waiting for a long time. The girl in question did not react in any way to what was happening, continuing to kneel with both ghosts on either side. After the words of the creature sounded in the heroine’s head, her head seemed to explode. She came to her senses after some time, several hundred meters from the creepy abandoned house - she was awakened by her grandmother, who noticed the dirty and bloody girl. The girl was rushed to the hospital and her badly torn leg was stitched up. After this incident, she had to visit psychiatrists and various psychoanalysts for a long time and regularly, but she was never the same again. Her friend was found three days later in the forest, which was located several kilometers from the ill-fated house...

Abandoned houses are fraught with many mysteries, but American photographer Seph Loveless is not looking for answers to questions, he simply photographs these houses and learns their sad stories. Next, we will introduce you to the most mysterious haunted houses that are empty to this day.

In 1941 this house was a brothel. Years later, several bodies were found in the basement, each of which had all its organs marked out in perfect circles.

According to history, a family with four children lived in this house. After their parents committed double suicide, the children grew up alone in this house for 10 years.

Another family drama played out in this house in the mid-20th century. A certain Benjamin Albright first killed his son, and then his wife and himself. Since 1958, the house has stood untouched, preserving the history and all the family's personal details.

In the 70s, the mansion was a small hotel and became known for several very strange deaths.

The Milan mansion was notorious in the area. It is said that a practicing witch lived there, and neighbors were afraid of the place. Rumor has it that after her death the witch was buried right in the house.

The Doll's House from Philadelphia got its name from its very strange interior. There is no furniture or other evidence of life, but the entire house is filled with dolls and metal racks containing saws and other tools.

This house was home to serial killer Michael Madison, who used the basement as a place to kill his victims.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the family who lived in this house mysteriously disappeared. The investigation yielded nothing, but they say that residents then repeatedly saw the silhouettes of the residents in the windows of the house.

Some time ago I talked about abandoned cities that people abandoned for one reason or another. And today I want to continue the topic and show you abandoned places where no human has set foot for many years. As a rule, these are dwellings; for many years they kept the warmth of the hearth, until the people who inhabited them left - who went in search of better life, and some into oblivion.

From the buildings discussed below, it is clearly noticeable that not only people, but also houses can age. As soon as a house is deprived of signs of human presence - the smells of food, the sounds of voices, little things and decorations that give comfort, and as soon as there is no one to take care of it - the building deteriorates, ages and slowly dies. Just imagine how good these buildings would be if someone needed them, someone who put a piece of their soul into them.

When I was preparing the selection, it turned out that there were countless abandoned houses that I wanted to talk about, and in this article I decided to limit myself to only castles. If you are interested, we will return to this topic and get acquainted with other abandoned places - mansions, factories, factories, fortresses and much more. Here we go?

Castle Miranda in Belgium.

Castle Miranda in Belgium was built by an English-born architect in 1866 for the family of the Earl of Lidkirk-Beafort, who lived there until World War II.

In the post-war years, the owners of the castle were forced to sell it to the Belgian railway company, after which the castle changed hands many times. Since 1991, it has been abandoned: the owners cannot maintain it, since owning a castle is an expensive pleasure, and they do not want to transfer it to the municipality.

Meissen Castle

Meissen Castle (Belgium) was built almost five hundred years ago, and in different time served as a mansion, tobacco factory and even a distillery. When the First World War came and the Belgian “elite” of society invested energy in education, a women’s educational boarding school functioned in Meissen Castle. The institution ceased to exist in the seventies, when French education was banned in most Flemish regions.

By the way, I thought that Meissen Castle still existed, scaring rare visitors with ghosts and slowly collapsing, but it turns out that a couple of years ago it was demolished. It's a pity. It was a magnificent building with a long unusual story. Alas, I did not have time to visit there.

Bannerman's Castle

At the beginning of the last century, an immigrant from Scotland, the famous arms dealer Bannerman, bought an island in America for his business needs. An enterprising Scot built a castle on it, the remains of which we can still see today.

Bannerman left in 1916, leaving no heirs, and the castle was left without an owner, but with huge reserves of ammunition - some of them exploded two years after the death of the businessman. Part of the structure collapsed, but the building survived. In the fifties, the only thread that connected the castle and the rest of the world - the ferry - ceased to exist, and if earlier at least rare tourists wandered onto the island, now the castle was left alone with its old age.

In 1969, there was a severe fire - the roof of the castle burned out and some of the floors were damaged, but this did not break Bannerman's castle - it continued to menacingly jut its countless turrets into the sky.

In 2009, almost a third of the walls of the building collapsed, and today it looks like this:

Prince Halim Palace (Egypt)

The design of this building, stunning in its luxury, was designed by the famous architect Antonio Laskiak.

The palace was built at the beginning of the 20th century as a residence for the ruling family, but over time the building was transformed, and for more than half a century it housed Al-Nassriyah, one of the best boys' schools in Egypt. In 2004, the building was finally abandoned, and today only the wind blows through it.

Villa on the island of Como

This building was built on the island of Como (Italy) and in the first period of its history - and it began in the middle of the 19th century - it was called Villa Vecci, named after its creator, Philippe de Vecci, who built the mansion for his family. Today it is popularly called a “haunted house”: it is believed that it is inhabited by the spirit of the wife of the head of the family, who never found a home, who committed suicide.

These are the stories. It is sad that these houses are apparently doomed: their reconstruction requires a lot of money, and it is much more profitable not to restore the old building, but to build a new one. But most abandoned castles have problems identifying the owner, so even some foundations for the support of ancient monuments cannot take them under their wing. On the other hand, there is some kind of sad beauty in these bricks overgrown with moss, empty windows and the silence of the rooms.

Imagine: three o'clock in the morning. You wake up to the sound of your daughter saying, “Mommy, I'm scared,” and crawling into your bed. Her little arms hug you from behind. A minute later, you remember that your daughter is at summer camp and isn't due back for at least a week. You turn around sharply to see who called you, and... no one is next to you. But then you look up at the door and see her standing, looking at you. The body stiffens, and the girl grins and disappears right before your eyes. At three fifteen in the morning you know you won't be able to sleep. You should have listened to those who said you were moving into a haunted house... one of many haunted houses.

This little story may be fictitious, but many people have claimed to have experienced this in the houses on this list. From the "House of Despair" in Mexico, where a series of brutal murders took place, to the DeFoe house in New York, whose story inspired the legendary horror film "The Amityville Horror", we are sure that you would try your best to avoid a night in one of these houses ( and that would be wise of you). So, we present to your attention 25 creepy haunted houses that not everyone dares to visit.

Photographer Seph Lovelace is a true expert in the field of abandoned houses. To find subjects to shoot, he travels a lot, communicates with people and finds buildings that seem to have come out of a horror movie. Each of these houses is accompanied by a story, and some even evoke one desire - to avoid them and as far as possible.

Seph compiled his photographic journeys through abandoned houses into the book “13: American history horrors." It included detailed photographs of the buildings, their history and testimonies from residents living in the neighborhood.
