Ferry from Amsterdam to Finland. Budget trip to Amsterdam via Finland or Estonia. Documents required to apply for a visa

Friends often come to me asking me to plan a travel route. This time friends want to go to Amsterdam.

Let me immediately note that we are all St. Petersburg residents and Starting point It will be St. Petersburg. It happens that it’s cheap to fly from St. Petersburg to Amsterdam via Riga, but my friends want to go in early May, and the prices there are already high, it won’t cost less than 10-12 thousand, so I started looking for workarounds. And 16-hour stops in Riga at night are not at all pleasing.

So there is one low cost airline Ryanair flies from Lappeenranta and Tallinn to Germany. First, I’ll tell you about the route from Lappeenranta.

From Lappeenranta you can fly to Düsseldorf, or more precisely to the city of Weeze in Germany. The ticket price varies depending on the date, but the minimum price is 30-40 euros.

From Weeze airport there are minibuses every 2 hours to the city of Nijmegen, which is already located in the Netherlands. The transfer price is 18 euros. Then in Nijmegen you can take the high-speed train and get to Amsterdam

The price of a transfer from St. Petersburg to Lappeenranta Airport depends on the transport company, but on average 1000-1200 rubles. In the link I indicated a website that is a directory of companies, where you can clearly see the prices.

Now about Tallinn.

From Tallinn it will be advantageous to fly to Bremen or also to Weeze. I have already described the second option above, so let’s focus on Bremen.

From Bremen there are German trains directly to Amsterdam! If you buy tickets in advance online, you will save a lot. It is worth noting that you must buy tickets with your credit card, or the person who bought the tickets must be in close proximity to you. The credit card can be checked by a controller. On this moment train ticket price from 29 euros.

You can view tickets to Tallinn on the luxexpress website. Please note that there are two types of buses - Lux and Simple. Comfort on the road differs significantly. The Suite has a coffee machine and wifi, which is important for me personally)) Sometimes there are sales on buses increased comfort, but at the moment there are none, so we’ll go with a simple one for 650 rubles.

In total, the entire trip will cost you 6 - 8 thousand round trip, depending on the dates, cities of departure and arrival.

And in Amsterdam, starting from May, prices for hotels and hostels increase by 3 times. Therefore, I advise you to use airbnb. Now I have booked accommodation for 30 rubles for three people for 10 days, for comparison you can look at the prices, for example, on booking.com and you will see prices that are not pleasing to the eye ( we're talking about about dates starting from May)

I really hope this advice is useful to someone! PEACE!

Amsterdam may be small but it packs a mighty punch. The Dutch capital is the epitome of cool – take a bike tour around the city, go for a canal cruise through picturesque neighborhoods or set up with a picnic and a spot of people watching in Vondelpark. Culture aficionados will enjoy a day at the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum, while history buffs will definitely want to visit the Anne Frank House. Drink a Dutch beer in trendy Leidseplein, witness a display of ‘total football’ at an Ajax Amsterdam game and dig into some distinctly Dutch food like poffertjes, bitterballen and stroopwafels.

Things to do in Amsterdam

  • Rijksmuseum

The Rijksmuseum is a Dutch national museum dedicated to arts and history in Amsterdam. The museum is located at the Museum Square in the borough Amsterdam South, close to the Van Gogh Museum, the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, and the Concertgebouw.

  • Vondelpark

The Vondelpark is a public urban park of 47 hectares (120 acres) in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It is part of the borough of Amsterdam-Zuid and situated west from the Leidseplein and the Museumplein. The park was opened in 1865 and originally named the "Nieuwe Park", but later renamed to "Vondelpark", after the 17th-century playwright and poet Joost van den Vondel. Yearly, the park has around 10 million visitors. In the park is an open-air theater, a playground and several horeca facilities.

  • Van Gogh Museum

The Van Gogh Museum is an art museum dedicated to the works of Vincent van Gogh and his contemporaries in Amsterdam in the Netherlands. It is located at the Museum Square in the borough Amsterdam South, close to the Stedelijk Museum, the Rijksmuseum, and the Concertgebouw.

The area is bordered by the Singelgracht canal and the neighborhood of Frederik Hendrikbuurt to the west; the Prinsengracht to the east; the Brouwersgracht to the north and the Leidsegracht to the south. The former canal Rozengracht (now filled in) is the main traffic artery through the neighbourhood.

My friend and I work in an international transport company, our activities are directly related to frequent business trips. I have to travel a lot from Amsterdam to sign various kinds of agreements. In two years, we have already managed to develop the most optimal routes, in our opinion, both in terms of price and time.

From Helsinki to Amsterdam by plane

If you need to get there quickly, comfortably and without transfers, then in this case the plane is exactly what you need. As we managed to find out, the direction of Helsinki is quite popular and in demand; accordingly, there are five direct flights a day from two airlines: KLM and Finnair. You can cover a distance of 1,500 kilometers very quickly – in two and a half hours. The main thing is to decide on the most convenient time. As for the days of the week, there is no need to worry - planes fly all seven days.

Schedule:

1. The earliest departure is carried out by KLM airline, flight 1164 from international airport Helsinki Vantaa at 07.00, and at 8.35 you land at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. This is the flight we fly most often. Indeed, in this case, thanks to a fairly early arrival, we manage to solve most of the cases we need.

2. Second departure: Finnair flight 841 at 08.10, also from Vantaa. In Amsterdam, at Schiphol airport you will be at 09.45. If you fly on vacation, the time is excellent, but for business meetings it’s not very suitable for me, because we get to the office by the middle of the day.

3. After lunch, you can depart from Helsinki at 14.05 on KLM flight 1168 and arrive at 15.35.

4. The next flight in the afternoon is 845, Finnair departs from Vantaa at 16.15 and arrives at Schiphol at 17.45.

5. The last direct flight 1170 from Helsinki departs for KLM at 18.15, in Amsterdam at 19.45. I also like this option in case of very early negotiations. After all, upon arrival there is always a great opportunity to have a good rest or take a walk around Amsterdam.

Ticket price

The price of a ticket depends on whether you take a one-way ticket or a round trip ticket, as well as on the class in which you are going to fly: economy will be cheaper, business will be more expensive. Most often we buy round-trip tickets immediately. In this case, they cost us an average of 85 – 90 euros per person. This is in economy class. I really like the conditions on the planes of KLM and Finnair airlines; the flight is not long - only 2.5 hours, so I don’t think there is a big need to pay several times more for business class tickets. We took one-way tickets several times; they cost us, on average, 150-160 euros per person.

Buying tickets

We usually buy tickets online on the official websites of airlines: https://www.klm.com/ and https://www.finnair.com/ru/

From Helsinki to Amsterdam by ferry

If time permits and there are opportunities, then we get to Amsterdam from by ferry. This is one of my favorite modes of transport. Despite the duration of the journey - more than a day and one transfer (the ferry goes to Germany, and from there by train or bus to Amsterdam), the beauty that opens around it is definitely worth it. So, thanks to the Finnlines company, you can take a ferry from Helsinki at 17.00 and arrive in Travemünde () the next day at 21.30. The ferry runs daily.

From Travemünde to Amsterdam

In Travemünde we usually book an overnight stay at the small hotel “Hotel Grüner Jäger” (65 euros per night). And at 07.22 a train departs from the railway station to Amsterdam, where we arrive at 15.00. You can go by bus. It departs at 08.23 and arrives in the capital of the Netherlands at 19.00.

Ticket price

The price of a ferry ticket depends on the cabin class. We usually take “Standard A2” for 2 people with a window, since my friend is afraid of closed spaces. Depending on the season (more expensive in summer), the trip costs us 400 - 500 euros per person. A train or bus ticket costs around 40 euros.

Buying tickets

We buy ferry tickets on the Finnlines airline website: http://www.finnlines.com/. The train or bus is already on site at the Travemünde train stations.

Conclusion

Thus, the fastest and most convenient transport from Amsterdam is by plane - only 2.5 hours and you are there. If you want to arrange it parallel to the road sea cruise– you'll love the ferry. But I wouldn’t recommend going by train. After all, a lot of transplants will be required. So, you will first have to take a ferry to Stockholm, then by train to Copenhagen, then take a ferry to Rostock and again by train to Amsterdam. It turns out to be very long, expensive and troublesome.
