In the 1980s, an airport was built near Cabo, which later became an international airport. A network of high-speed highways was also built. American citizens purchased land around the city. Large amounts of money were invested in the development of local infrastructure, marinas for sailing ships and yachts were built, luxury hotels and villas were erected.
