If you cannot travel abroad on vacation, if climate change is contraindicated for you, if you are looking for a quiet, cozy and respectable hotel in central Russia, for a holiday with children, for a holiday for elderly parents, for a romantic wedding on the high bank of the Oka - maybe , my review will help you decide. Country hotel "Chaika" with a swimming pool and fitness club is located in the vicinity of Dzerzhinsk, Nizhny Novgorod region (Zhelnino village).

We received accommodation at the Chaika Hotel as a gift when we renewed our fitness club membership (more on that later).

About the hotel.

Large well-groomed area,

The Oka embankment is short in length,

Rental of bicycle equipment, roller skates,

Tennis court.

Pine trees, trimmed lawns, wild raspberry bushes by the pond, hammocks, swings.

The hotel consists of 2 buildings, we lived in the central one, it is connected to the fitness center, you don’t need to dress. My two children and I were given two double rooms. The children were delighted with their independence, and how I felt rested! Only my windows looked out onto the noisemakers from the pool, while theirs on the other side of the hotel was quiet.

I didn’t climb under the beds with my hands in white gloves, it was externally clean, recently renovated, new bedding and towels. Shampoos, gels, soaps, shower caps, pens, shoe sponges, like the poorest, we took home, like for souvenirs...

We checked in at 16-00, we were not entitled to dinner as a gift, we ate at home and took fruit and juice with us.

We liked breakfast and lunch. I don’t know what criteria they should meet, but for me there is only one indicator - it was tasty and there was a lot of it. For breakfast we took sausages, eggs, rice cutlets, semolina porridge, and tea. We did not take steamed vegetables, omelette, coffee, juices. For lunch, the children took 2 chicken soup (they really liked it), super tasty cutlets, potatoes, fruit, and cakes. They didn’t take fish, sausages, and much more. IT DID NOT FIT! Home-cooked, no soup kitchen. Buffet.

If you want something different, there are several restaurants.

There is a bowling alley, but we weren't there. The eldest daughter went there with her class “for a corporate party”, the schoolchildren were delighted.

In summer, a small swimming pool and sunbeds are installed on the embankment for sunbathers.

The amount of oxygen in the air is OVERHEAD! After a half-hour walk, I feel dizzy and want to sleep all the time. Very quiet and peaceful. On Fridays and Saturdays you can often see weddings on the lawn near the embankment.

Residents are mainly families with children, including infants, pensioners with and without grandchildren, athletes in teams, companies coming for trainings/seminars.

You can go outside the hotel, there are meadows, forests and Lake Glubinka nearby, where people go to practice Nordic walking from the fitness club. You can cross (for a fee!) to the other side of the Oka for fishing/swimming in the Oka/visiting the Dudin Monastery.

There is children's animation. My children categorically do not like animators, so there is almost nothing to say. Some of my friends send their children to day care groups during the spring/autumn holidays. Children like it, parents find it convenient, but expensive.

There is Wi-Fi in the rooms, we also had Wi-Fi on the embankment.

Now about fitness.

Theater begins with a hanger, and fitness begins with a locker room. Separate locker rooms, men's and women's (we were at the Atoll water park - there is a common locker room, with changing cabins), the lockers are small. There are hair dryers near the mirrors. 2 towels are provided - large and small.

Hats are not required, but my children wear them. Because they swim with goggles, and it’s easier to put them on a cap. Administrators ask you to pin or braid long hair. There is no medical examination, no certificates are required.

The pool in Chaika is year-round, technological break - September. The water is NOT CHLORINED!, but ozonated, which is important for me, since I don’t tolerate bleach well. There are always few people, 10-15 people. It happens that 1-2 people in the evening (including me). There is a children's pool with warm chlorinated water for mothers with babies. It is also possible for children under 7, but usually from the age of 5 they put on armbands/vests and climb into the adult pool. The depth for adults in the main zone and the water aerobics zone is about one and a half meters; there are also deep places for those who like to dive. A special atmosphere is created by a panoramic window overlooking the river.

In winter you swim and look at the snow-covered pines...

The eldest daughter simply swims underwater in goggles and fins, the youngest daughter collects a bunch of sports equipment and builds all kinds of floating structures:

Equipment is provided free of charge - swimming boards, fins, balls, water dumbbells, arm guards, vests, belts and gloves for water aerobics.

There is a hammam, Finnish saunas and an infrared sauna, and a pool with cold (chlorinated!) water. Everything is small, cozy, not particularly new, but quite clean. I always go to the hammam, I’m afraid to go to the IR, it might be harmful, but the saunas are hot.

There are several rooms for group classes. I tried Pilates and body stretching. I thought that I would die before the end. No, just water aerobics! I can do all the exercises, I get tired, I crawl out of the pool, but I don’t die.

I really like that classes are held even if only 1 person comes. This happened to me often. It turns out like a personal lesson, only for free.

Drunk people are not allowed into the fitness center; in 2 years I have encountered visitors with fume fumes 3 times, and only in the hammam.

There is a children's room, I left my youngest there a couple of times when she didn't want to go to the pool and had no one to leave her with at home.

Now about the shortcomings. Basically, they are associated with children's leisure.

  1. There are no slides in the pool. They say there used to be a slide, but due to a lot of injuries it was removed. Probably, we can still come up with something to make it more interesting for children in the pool.
  2. There are no animals, except for the gorgeous red cat at the checkpoint. The symbol of children's animation is a squirrel, its nuts are exchanged for prizes. We didn’t see a single squirrel on the territory, but we would really like to. Ducks or swans could be placed on the pond. I’m not calling for a zoo with wild animals, I myself am against cages, but tame birds and squirrels can definitely be organized.

3. Mothers with sons aged 5-6 years old are faced with the problem of visiting the locker room. Even if a mother is not shy about her 6-year-old son and calmly undresses in front of him, girls 6-10 years old feel very uncomfortable. There is a similar problem in the shower. It would be possible to somehow think through this issue.

4. There are problems with parking (for fitness club members) when corporations come for trainings.

5. It happens (rarely) that the pool is unexpectedly closed “for maintenance” for 1 day. These surprises suspiciously coincide with the arrival of celebrities on an all-Russian scale. Like a concert, there is prevention at Chaika.

Let me generalize: if you are looking for a place to sleep off, take a break from the hustle and bustle, come to your senses, and be with your children, come.

For non-residents without a car: a taxi to the city costs from 100 rubles, in Dzerzhinsk there is 1 cinema (in the Royal shopping center), 1 local history museum, 1 city park with attractions (old and creaky) and a small zoo (with a contact area). You can take a train (30-50 minutes) or a bus (50-60 minutes) to Nizhny Novgorod (30 km).

"The Seagull" is no less interesting in winter than in summer. We come with our own tubing, but for visitors there are rental tubes, skis, and skates (the skating rink is filled).

"Seagull" in winter

I hope my review was helpful to you.
